3.5 Sexy, cinnamon cowboy stars
Trixie hides behind her tough-as-nails, punk rock attitude. She hides the guilt and remorse she has because of bad decisions she made as a human. And basically keeps a part of herself hidden from everyone, even the people she is close to. But then sexy vampire cowboy, Dakota Shelton, comes to town, and it takes everything she has to keep him at a distance.
Dakota is from Texas, a cowboy at heart, who loves his cinnamon lollipops, because they remind him of being human. He has a lot of cowboy charm, and can’t help being interested in Trixie, and trying to figure out who she really is.
I really liked Dakota and his sexy and sweet cowboy ways. I loved how he treated the skittish Trixie, knowing that there is more to her than the snarky attitude she portrays to everyone. No matter how many times she tried to push him away, he kept on trying to befriend her, to climb the walls she has built around herself.
It was refreshing to have a heroine who wasn’t perfect. She made a lot of wrong choices when she was a human, and because of those choices, it influenced the way she acted as a vampire. She believes that succumbing to the attraction she has for Dakota will take her back to the weak person she was as a human, and does everything she can to deter him and the growing feelings she has for him.
The romance between Trixie and Dakota was sweet and a slow burn. Mostly because of Trixie, and her continuous rejection of Dakota. At times I got very frustrated with her, even though I understood why she felt the way she did, I just wanted to shake some sense into her and tell her she was blind for not seeing how wonderful he was. Luckily she did eventually come to her senses, and I really enjoyed them as a couple.
I can’t go into detail about the storyline, because I don’t want to give anything away. So all I’ll say is that this was a very sweet addition to this series.
