About the author

B.M. Horton is a fantasy author from the United Kingdom and the creator of Myrefall, his debut novel.

A lifelong lover of fantasy, he grew up captivated by stories such as The Hobbit, The Witcher, and Percy Jackson. Today, he's just as likely to be found lost in the pages of a Brandon Sanderson novel as he is building worlds of his own.

When he isn't writing, he enjoys gaming, rolling dice around the Dungeons & Dragons table, and experimenting in the kitchen. Much of his free time, however, is spent dreaming up new adventures and expanding the world of *Myrefall*, where there are still many stories left to tell.

Myrefall follows a group of very different individuals whose lives become intertwined as they face growing dangers, hidden truths and a world that constantly tests their courage. As the journey unfolds, each character has an important role to play, and together they must learn to rely on one another if they’re going to survive what’s ahead.

This book is one I’ll always remember because it was my very first ARC read. Receiving the opportunity to read and review a debut novel before publication felt incredibly special, and I’m genuinely grateful to B.M. Horton for placing that trust in me. It’s an experience I won’t forget.

Going in, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I quickly found myself settling into the story. The pacing felt just right throughout, with enough happening to keep me engaged without ever feeling rushed. It always gave me a reason to read one more chapter before putting the book down.

One of my favourite aspects was the group of main characters. They’re all very different from one another, but that’s exactly what made them work so well. Each brings something unique to the story, each has a purpose, and together they form a group that I genuinely enjoyed spending time with. By the end, I found myself rooting for all of them in different ways.

The story itself flows naturally, gradually building both the world and the stakes without becoming overwhelming. It felt like everything had room to breathe while still moving the plot forward, making for a really enjoyable reading experience.

And then there’s that epilogue. Without spoiling anything, it’s exactly the kind of ending I love. It closes one chapter while opening another, leaving me with plenty of questions and a real excitement to see where this story goes next. I’ll definitely be picking up book two when it’s released.

For a debut novel, this is a fantastic start, and I can’t wait to see what B.M. Horton does next.

Myrefall has been my first ARC read and what a pleasure it has been. I read it in a day because I did not want to put it down.

The world they know is in danger. A tyrant king has begun to execute his subjects in droves, denying them fair trials or mercy. Rebellion is rife, but there is not much that can be done to stop the final judgement of the oppressor.

Can this misfit group learn to work together to save Myrefall from the tyrant king?

Brandon has such a clear picture of not only the world he has created, but the souls of his characters that inhabit it. His characters each have struggles and concerns of their own, which bring a realistic tone to story that is being weaved around them. I particularly enjoyed the development of the characters on their journeys, which never seemed forced or superfluous. They aren't fully fledged war machines, they learn their strengths (and weaknesses) along the way. Also, I appreciate so much that the romance was more of a footnote, not a main feature. So refreshing amidst the sea of romantasy tales.

Captain Kara has a tough exterior, but she is all fluff and light...for the right people. Dale may be a gawky teen, but his journey with the group helps him to gain a confidence in who he is and what he stands for. Rai has the best of intentions, though it frustratingly takes him a while to understand that keeping things to yourself is not always the best way to help. Zephyr is a lovable rogue who, with brute force at times, begins to see that thinking of others and not just himself brings him the happiness he's been looking for.

I loved how the story built up to the final crescendo and literally had me at the edge of my seat with heart thumping. I really cared about the outcome, and this is something Brandon does so well in creating immersive scenes and character dialogue that sets you right in the middle of it all.

I cannot wait for Book 2!

I was honoured to be a beta reader for Brandon & loved this book. The story was very well paced , I felt engaged from the start & the characters worked really well together. What I loved was the sense that there was no main character, there was a group, none of them overshadowed the others, no-one was more important, they all had their purpose & roles to play. Dale reminded me of Erik from Raymond E Feist's Serpentwar Saga, he's big, but gentle & innocent. Rai, on occasion, reminded me of Nakor from the same series. When they are arrested they did not foresee what was about to happen. Rescued & on the run, their group grows to 4. Kara isn't a great warrior, but she'd earned her captain's role. Zephyr's back story helped shape him into who he currently is. There is more to them all than meets the eye, discoveries are made, friendships formed & hardship endured, but together they refuse to give up, refuse to back down & will fight for Myrefall. As cliffhangers go, this is a good one & I can't wait for book 2.

I was thrilled to be selected as an ARC reader for this book.
‘A Princess, a young Blacksmith and a Magician walk into a Tavern..’. Not quite the standard joke, but accurate. In the tavern they meet the Rogue to complete the party of adventurers. Through this story of challenges and misfortune they stick together, trying to avoid capture by the mad King’s soldiers. Journeying through inhospitable country, fighting hostile locals and exhaustion, laid low by poisons and wounds. Will they live long enough to get to their objective alive?

‘Myrefall’ Book One of ‘Echoes of Eion’ is a rollicking adventure. B.M. Horton has woven an engaging tale that illustrates how a diverse group of individuals can, through necessity, band cohesively together and overcome odds which appear to be insurmountable. I am looking forward to Book 2.

What I love about this book is the heart that it contains. Yes the world is kinda dark, not grim dark, but kinda realities of life and death dark. But there’s an inherent optimism I feel radiating from the characters, like they all want to be the best versions of themselves. The characters and their relationships are really strong, this book actually had me welling up with tears a couple times! Very well executed for a debut, the author does have some room to grow with their prose but it’s very clear and easy to read! The best thing about this book is its vibe, it hits this sweet spot of feeling like a D&D adventure with your friends. It’s also got plenty of humor and got some chuckles out of me. I’m so excited for the possibilities of this series and this author!!

So I had the privilege of being an ARC reader for this book.

It was a pleasure to read, had a great pace and very lovable characters. The story line had enough action to keep you reading, but no constantly that it was a blood bath. It had me engaged enough to keep thinking oh just one more chapter won’t hurt.

It was good it did not focus on just the one main character, but all four had their parts to play. They all had their own personalities, and I really did find myself laughing out loud to some of Zephyr’s comments.

This isn’t my normal type of read, but I must say I can’t wait to see what then second book has in store!

I recieved an ARC for this book, my honest review:

'Sword, bow, hammer and flame.'

Myrefall follows a group who band together, initially through necessity. The story ends on a slight cliffhanger.
This book is in 3rd person, which I'm not personally a fan of and unfortunely I did struggle to connect with the characters.
However this is decent for a first novel and the plot is very good.

The book is an absolute cosy read. As a shorter book in the fantasy genre it breaks up your reading pattern nicely between huge series. As a current stand alone it is an easy book to pick up and read in a day or over the weekend.
I would consider it a classic fantasy story and very much look forward to future books by B.M. Horton
