Forgiveness is God's Great Work because sin is the greatest of problems, the cross is the most excellent of solutions, and grace produces the most extreme changes. It is all-inclusive and everlasting. In this book, John Ensor helps us grasp the reality and human experience of God's ongoing, outworking, wonderful grace.
Ensor gets the gospel right. He takes us on a guided tour of the Bible's teaching on human sinfulness and God's remarkable response of atonement in Christ. It is full of the beauty and power of the gospel. Beginning with the heartbreaking reality and results of sin Ensor takes the reader deep into the power of Christ's cross work. This is a book to be read and savored.
Overall a good book. It covered a wide range of topics that the gospel touches in our lives. I appreciated the stories and examples in the book. But the book tries to be expository with limited success. As a book for helpful reflections on how the gospel should affect our lives, it is a great one
John Ensor is the president of a ministry that operates pregnancy help centers. The Great Work of the Gospel is his third book, and it is evident from the text that he has a concern for seeing the outworking of God’s grace in the lives of the people he meets. In this book, Ensor explores the grace of God and how humans experience that grace in their lives. This is the Great Work of the Gospel. In the book, Ensor continually points to the cross of Jesus Christ. We are constantly reminded that the work of grace in our lives is God’s work. He is the one building grace into our lives.
Each chapter is built around a particular passage of Scripture. The book is organized around key themes and the core truths of the gospel. He begins with the forgiveness of sins and moves through the entire process of salvation. He ends with a discussion of how the outworking of God’s grace should motivate us to serve God. This powerful, moving book is highly recommended.
Not so much a review as a personal response. In a world where God is branded in so many different ways, this is the amazing, fair and loving God that people need to hear about. You cannot help but be compelled and drawn to this God, a God you can totally believe in. Thank you John Ensor.
A really helpful and well written book. I especially appreciated to illustrations and examples that he offered to help explain the different concepts. I think this is a book worth revisiting.
