Easy High Protein Cookbook: Simple Recipes to Energize Your Day by Kristine Weber is a feast for the eyes. Let me start by giving kudos to the photographer. Every photo makes my mouth water! If your idea of a high-protein meal is another boring plate of chicken, this book will give you plenty of reasons to get excited.

As a woman in perimenopause, I hear it constantly: protein, protein, protein. Getting enough can feel like a task in itself, especially when I’m trying to manage my appetite and those unwanted extra pounds. You can only eat so much chicken before you need a little inspiration. This book has plenty.

The recipes look colorful, flavorful, and satisfying, with creative options that go well beyond my usual rotation. The protein Frappuccino and cheese waffle are at the top of my list. Breakfast is without a doubt my biggest struggle, and those two actually have me looking forward to it!

I also love the variety of dishes and desserts. Having options makes such a difference when you’re trying to build better habits without getting stuck eating the same things every day. I’m excited to try these recipes and bring a little more variety—and a lot more appeal—to my protein routine.

Thank you so very much to Kristine Weber, Skyhorse Publishing, and NetGalley for the ARC.

Easy High Protein Cookbook: Simple Recipes to Energize Your Day by Kristine Weber is a refreshing, accessible guide that makes hitting high-protein goals feel realistic and doable for everyday life. It strips away the complicated meal-prep trends and focuses on fast, family-friendly meals made with staple ingredients.

What I Loved:

▫️The Master Meal Planning Overview Tables: Having the comprehensive summary lists at the beginning of the book—grouping recipes by meal category with exact calorie counts and protein grams per serving—is brilliant. It functions like a visual mix-and-match menu: you can easily shuffle meals across different days to build your own custom daily plan without flipping back and forth through dozens of pages.

▫️Genuinely Quick, Approachable Recipes: The dishes (like the Protein Pancakes, Power Smoothie, High Protein Frappuccino, and Kiwi & Strawberry Trifle) require no rare specialty powders or tedious cooking steps. They rely on simple kitchen essentials—cottage cheese, high-protein Greek yogurt/skyr, eggs, oats, and berries.

▫️Sensible Nutritional Mindset: The introductory sections provide sound, guilt-free advice, debunking stubborn diet myths (like rigid meal frequency or avoiding late-night carbs) and offering flexible templates for different lifestyle rhythms.

Suggestions for Improvement:

▪️Provide Complete Macronutrients (Carbs & Fats): Listing calories and protein is helpful, but for a truly practical nutrition guide, it really needs full macros per recipe (including carbohydrates and fats). Anyone tracking their carb intake or trying to minimize dietary fats has to calculate these numbers manually, which is a missed opportunity for an otherwise convenient book.

▪️A Dedicated Shakes & Quick-Grab Snacks Section: Liquid meals and quick blended snacks are total lifesavers on busy days. While options like the Frappuccino and Power Smoothie are great, expanding this into a standalone section with more shake variations, flavor combos, and instant portable snacks would add huge value.

A very practical, delicious, and well-organized cookbook for anyone wanting to boost their daily protein without spending hours in the kitchen. Adding complete macro counts would make it an absolute 5-star resource!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you Skyhorse Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

I’m not sure what demographic this was written for but unfortunately it didn’t hit the spot. I am always excited to find new, inspiring ways to incorporate more protein into our family meals however the recipes included were mostly basic ones and also commonplace ones such as smoothies, avocado and egg on toast.

This book began with a basic overview of what protein is and why you need it, along with some tables for protein ratings per 100g foods. it then spoke about IF but didn’t really have a stance in it so I was confused as to why this would be included in a protein cookbook, especially when later in the book were pages of deserts. 5myths were presented, amongst them was not eating breakfast. These myths had no sources or backing, they just seemed to be an added paragraph. I was confused that IF and not eating breakfast would be along side a large section of pages of seemingly unhealthy dessert options, including snicker bar pops, waffles, cinnamon buns, all foods that I would see as a treat food occasionally and not necessary if a good protein base throughout the day has been met. I found the messaging confusing at best.

I found the recipes varied greatly from my personal taste, I found the loaded fries, more waffle recipes and burgers more off putting than helpful. There was nothing new in this book and the recipes really let it down. Sadly I couldn’t recommend this as a cookbook for someone looking for a healthy, high protein way of eating.

I do agree the book contains easy recipes and perhaps some quick options for those who don’t really like cooking. There were accompanying photographs with the recipes.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This may appeal to people wanting quick snacks that are easy to prepare earlier in the day or desserts or high carbohydrate style meals with sources of protein.

I struggle to get enough protein in my diet and also create interesting meals that my family will also enjoy, so I was excited to read this book. The photos are detailed and lovely, but the recipes are truly for only the most basic beginner cooks. Out of the entire book, I think I found only a couple that were truly unique and worthwhile for me to bookmark to try. The majority of the book simply takes. extremely basic, commonplace recipes and substitutes or adds high protein greek yogurt or cottage cheese to boost the protein in the recipes. For example, "Avocado Egg Toast" recipe is exactly what the title is: bread, egg, avocado. Another "recipe" is just yogurt, store bought granola and berries. Another "recipe" is just a store-bought crisp bread cracker with ham and cheese. Three separate "recipes" are just oatmeal topped with apples or nuts and chocolate or tropical fruit. Another is just tuna and avocado on toast. These "recipes" are really just so basic that they really don't belong in a cookbook--it its like saying "peanut butter and jelly sandwich" is a recipe that needs to be written down to create! I was surprised this was even published, so I looked up the publisher and they mostly publish "MAHA/MAGA" propaganda books. So in that case, I guess this makes more sense....

If you’re looking for satisfying meals that are simple to prepare while helping you reach your protein goals, Easy High Protein Cookbook by Kristine Weber is worth picking up!

Weber begins with helpful information about general protein needs and practical advice for incorporating protein throughout the day. I especially enjoyed the breakfast chapter, since breakfast can be a challenging time to get enough protein without spending too much time in the kitchen. The photography is lovely, and the overall aesthetic of the book is appealing and inviting.

One thing to keep in mind is that this isn’t necessarily the cookbook to reach for if you’re looking for recipes paired with suggested sides to create a complete meal. Instead, it focuses on simple, tasty meals that can be prepared quickly while keeping nutrition in mind.

Overall, this is a nice cookbook to have on hand if you want practical, approachable recipes that make meeting your protein goals a little easier. This book will be especially good for the starting-out cook looking to build up their recipe repertoire.

Thank you to NetGalley and Skyhorse Publishing for the ARC, all opinions are my own.
