The Fates Between Us is the first book in a Fantasy Romance duet that is a perfect mix of Hades & Persephone reimagining with Dante’s Inferno and this story is incredible, I absolutely loved it!

Fallyn is engaged against her will to a prince she hates, but, while traveling to her fiancé, she is attacked and frees a mysterious man imprisoned in a cave to save her life. Now bound together and hating each other, she and Ash need to find a way to break the curse that threatens to kill them, but between fighting for their lives and discovering things from their previous lifetimes, they can’t stop their growing feelings for each other.

I must admit it took me some time to get into this book, but a few chapters in I was hooked and couldn’t put it down, the author created a truly fascinating story with amazing characters, beautiful romance, plot twists that had my jaw on the floor and an ending that broke my heart. The plot was really interesting, both in the past and in the present, with a war between gods, both old and new, and since I love Greek mythology, I really enjoyed that part. I liked the dual timeline and how different it was from the present, Fallyn and Ash were different but so similar at the same time and their love was just as strong and beautiful, I loved these two so much, both individually and as a couple. They were both so strong and have been through so much and my heart was breaking for them many times, but they were incredible and I loved seeing them overcome it all. Their relationship didn’t start very well here with a bit of hate to love, but there was a lot of tension and their banter was amazing and it was beautiful to see them falling in love (and he fell first which is always a bonus), I already can’t wait to see them again in the next book, especially after how this one ended, that was such a brutal cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

The Fates Between Us is a really great fantasy romance book with so many of my favorite tropes, I loved and recommend it to everyone. The next book can’t come soon enough!

Equal parts sweeping, emotionally devastating, and irresistibly romantic, it takes familiar mythological inspiration—drawing from Hades and Persephone while weaving in the haunting atmosphere of *Dante's Inferno*—and transforms it into something wholly its own. This is a story about fate, sacrifice, and the kind of love that refuses to be erased by time, and I was completely enthralled.

I won't pretend I was immediately hooked. The opening chapters are intentionally measured, laying the foundation for a complex world and an intricate mythology. But once the story found its rhythm, I couldn't put it down. Every chapter peeled back another layer, and with each revelation, I became more invested in both the mystery and the characters. By the end, I was emotionally wrecked in the best possible way.

The world-building is one of this novel's greatest strengths. Rather than relying on mythology as aesthetic inspiration, the author fully embraces it, crafting a story that feels epic in both scope and emotional weight. The conflict between the old gods and the new creates a fascinating backdrop, while the dual timelines deepen the narrative instead of interrupting it. Each glimpse into the past reframes the present, making every revelation feel earned and every emotional beat hit even harder. As someone who loves Greek mythology, I appreciated how confidently the author honored familiar lore while creating something that felt fresh and original.

What truly elevates this story, however, is its characters.

Fallyn and Ash are beautifully written—flawed, resilient, and shaped by lifetimes of impossible choices. Their individual journeys are compelling, but together they are magnetic. Their relationship begins with distrust, resentment, and plenty of sharp banter, creating an enemies-to-lovers romance that never feels forced. Every moment of vulnerability, every reluctant act of trust, and every stolen glance builds naturally toward a romance that feels deeply earned. The chemistry is undeniable, the emotional tension is exquisite, and watching Ash fall first only made me love their dynamic even more.

What surprised me most was how emotionally layered this story became. Beneath the romance is a meditation on identity, grief, forgiveness, and whether love can survive the weight of destiny. The plot twists genuinely caught me off guard, not because they existed solely for shock value, but because they recontextualized everything that came before them. It's the kind of storytelling that rewards careful readers while still delivering moments that leave you staring at the page in disbelief.

And then there's that ending.

I don't use the phrase "jaw-dropping cliffhanger" lightly, but it absolutely applies here. The final chapters left me equal parts heartbroken and desperate for more. Few books have made me close the cover and immediately start counting down the days until the sequel quite like this one.

First off, thank you to H.L. Hamilton for providing me with an advanced copy. I am currently in the process of finishing it, but I had to run and write this review now.

I would like to start this review off with a resounding OMG! H.L. Hamilton has captured Hades and Persephone perfectly, and then some. I have never read a Hades x Persephone novel before, so I did some research prior and when I tell you the details that went into this masterpiece are outstanding! The eloquent flow of the dialog and narration, along side the detailed character development and thoughtful plot. This is a must read and is at the top of my list of favourite books I have read this year!

I have to highlight as well, how much detail and consideration H.L. put into EACH character. The other gods live up to what their personalities and traits are in history. MIND BLOWN. During the reading process I got to a point if I didn't know a gods name, I would research it just to see how accurately captured they were. Even now just writing this, the feeling beating through my chest at the passion and dedication H.L. put into this exceptional piece of art, is overwhelming.

I need more, not want, NEED. Thank you for sending me an ARC that emotionally destroyed me in the BEST way possible. If this is not on your TBR add it now, actually skip the TBR and just READ IT NOW!

I have waited so long to be able to view this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I beta read this back in January and this is without a doubt the BEST Hades and Persephone retelling I have ever read! I could not put it down.
They were cursed by Lilith to kill each other in every lifetime in a plot created by the Morningstar to take over Olympus and the Underworld and become the "one true God".
In this lifetime Ash and Fallyn have to find a way to break their curse and banish the Morningstar for good. The one problem is that Fallyn has no idea who she is. Just that she found Ash in a cave speared to the ground.
They battle hell beasts and fight for their lives, while those that Fallyn holds dear lose theirs. It reshapes who she is and forces her to reassess everything she has ever known.
Hades' personality was sheer perfection and gave him the Daddy Death persona we all know and love but different and better in the sense that, even though he only softened for her, he still didn't coddle - he forged. H. L. Hamilton captured her characters perfectly within the pages of The Fates Between Us and gave us an ending that left me begging for more - literally I begged.

This was a good Hades x Persephone retelling overall, but much too long at 800 pages.

That being said, I did get an Advanced Reader Copy of this and I'm not sure if it went to an editor first, but I know the author was planning to do final edits after the ARC. I try not to judge a book too much in an ARC, but this felt like I was doing editing as I was reading it and it entirely took me out and made me force myself to finish it. Lots of grammatical errors as well as duplicated paragraphs. I'm not entirely sure how many pages this would cut down to after being properly edited.

I liked the romance and how there was a dual storyline weaved in, which is also why the book is so much longer. It was essentially two books in one. I like the idea of it being told so we understand the past and how it leads to the present day.

The romance was intriguing because it seems so much enemies to lovers, but it's so much more complicated than that and I liked seeing it unfold!

Whenever Holly makes it known she’s writing a new book I am instantly purchasing from her. I love Hades and Persephone retellings and the Greek gods have always been a weakness to me. I love anything rich in that period of history, so seeing that Holly has written her own story, I ran for a BETA copy. I first read a skeleton of a book in comparison to what she’s published today and I was in love, Holly truly has a way of connecting her characters to the audience, I fell in love with each and every single one, all for different qualities. Being on the journey for the final result to come to life and seeing the love from other readers warms my heart. I was very thankful to be a part of her journey since the curses duet. I need book 2 immediately, I have predictions but I love that even with predictions Holly always seems to throw a spanner in my initial thoughts. I would recommend highly if you enjoy fantasy, enjoy reading retellings and smut scenes that quench a thirst without dominating the plot.

Forever wanting more from H.L. Hamilton.

There is back and forth between past and present, but Hamilton is able to keep both paths separate and connected. You find the “Easter eggs” that connect the two story lines (which I absolutely loved!!!)

Being honest, I know very little of Greek mythology. That being said, this perspective was written in a way that was easy to follow and in some ways was even relatable.

The love story will keep you hooked and going and “just one more chapter” is something you will find yourself repeating multiple times (while the night gets later and later) and you will always find it completely worth it. The character development is amazing and I love how much personality Hamilton was able to put into the characters, it truly helps the reader fully connect. The banter, the quirks, the world building (that isn’t over complicated). Everything just flows so well!!

I already want book 2!!!

This book was a dark fantasy told through two alternating timelines with Greek gods, demons, spice and curses. After an attack, Hades brings Persephone to the underworld to keep her safe from Morningstar. Morningstar is a new god who is actually evil and gross. Hades meanwhile is the epitome of yearning and soft only for her. He is so down bad for Persephone. Then there’s Fallyn who wakes Ash from a magical slumber type of deal. They are both cursed, which makes them have to work and travel together to try to break it, while trying to keep out of the hands of the evil Morningstar worshipping Prince who also wants Fallyn. Ash was so spicy and I loved the banter. Overall, this book was long but it was wild. Also wild? That ending. I will definitely be reading the next to see what happens.

You know those stories that grab hold of your heart and refuse to let go? The Fates Between Us was that book for me. The slow build, the tension, the longing, the impossible choices—it had me completely invested.
I loved how deeply I felt everything alongside the characters. The moments where you desperately want things to work out, even when you know fate has other plans.
By the end, I wasn't ready to say goodbye.
If you love romantasy that makes your heart ache and keeps you thinking about the characters long after the last page, this one is worth the emotions. 🖤📚✨🥀

I started this book and honestly felt like it's page count was going to drown me.

It did not. I ended up completely devouring this piece. This was a compelling and new twist on the Hades and Persephone story.

Now after finishing it, I fear I am left wanting and excited for the next book.

There was depth and darkness and moments of lighthearted joy. I appreciated it all.

I did find some of the quick POV switches to be slightly distracting in the beginning, but I eventually fell into the author's rhythm.

This story of Persephone and Hades is nothing like you’ve read before. I really loved the inclusion of the new god, Morningstar, and his effect on the old gods and even the people who started believing in him. The dual POVs and dual timelines really pull you into the story, make you invested, and then tear you into shreds. No big deal. Although some of the revelations were expected, others were absolutely not and took me by surprise. The ending was devastating and I loved all of it! Really looking forward to Book 2.

This a fabulous twist on the Hades and Persephone tale.

Cursed by Lilith to kill each other in every lifetime, so that a new god can overthrow Olympus and the Underworld to become the One True God.

The book follows their current lifetime as Ash and Fallyn while also showing their original live, unfortunately Fallyn doesn't remember who she is and currently hates Ash, but they are bound together by a curse that they must break before it kills them.

The cliffhanger was brutal, so be warned!!!!! Lol

I have read a few Persephone and Hades retellings and so far this one is my fave. I’d give this 4 1/2 stars. Fallyn and Ash got me here. I shed some tears and had to put the book down for a minute because it hit me a little harder than I thought. I laughed, I cried and it got my blood boiling.
