Blood and Lies: The Bellucci Dynasty

Rate this book
I’m sleeping with a masked man, and I’ve never seen his face.

The heir to the Bellucci dynasty is dead.

But who will take his place?

After running away from the toxic binds of her family at nineteen, I, Carlotta Bellucci, vowed to make a life for myself. One without overbearing Mafia men and the threat of violence.

Now, ten years later, I have all I’ve ever desired; a stable job, a stable income and weekly, no strings attached, meetings with Sir, a masked man who treats me like a Princess and satiates me desires without me ever having to see his face.

Until when my older brother, Cristiano is found dead and the life I’ve built for myself comes crashing down to the ground.

Not only must I take his place as heir to our family’s diamond dynasty, but also to the secret society I didn’t even know existed, of which Cristiano was a member of.

They call themselves The Thirteen.

But who are these men, and could they be responsible for Cristiano’s untimely death?

When the invitations begin pouring in to join, I decide to test fate and accept their request to take my brother’s place. If only so I can find out what really happened to Cristiano.

Except, when I get there, things aren’t exactly as they seem.

Not to mention, the sight of the attractive leader of The Thirteen—Mr Rome Foronari and his bodyguard Mr Cassiel Angelo—making my skin sear and my stomach flip upside down.

But then Mr. Folonari speaks and my heart drops for an entirely different reason.

Because I know that voice.

That’s Sir’s voice.

The secrets, the masked encounters, the mafia world, I was in deep pretty quickly.

Carlotta’s connection with Sir had me curious from the start, and watching her past collide with everything she thought she knew kept me turning pages. The whole setup felt deliciously messy in the best way.

Carlotta was such a fun FMC, especially because she has plenty of fire without losing her softer side. Rome brings all that intense, commanding energy, while Cassiel has a warmer, more protective vibe that completely worked for me. And the chemistry between all three? So good. I especially enjoyed how different each relationship felt.

The slow burn really worked here because there was so much happening underneath the romance, and once everything started coming together, I was fully invested. The secrets and final reveal definitely left me wanting more, and I’m very curious to see how this trio develops from here.

Such a fun, twisty start to the series.

A sincere thank you to Elle Knox and Love Notes PR for the ARC! 🥰📚

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Blood and Lies was one of those books where the more I learned, the more I realized how little I actually understood. What starts as a dark mafia romance gradually becomes much more layered, with secrets, loyalties and past wounds shaping nearly every relationship.

What stood out most to me were the characters. Carlotta isn’t simply a woman being pulled back into a world she escaped from years ago. She has built an identity separate from her family, and watching that carefully constructed life unravel made her emotional journey one of my favorite parts. I liked that her strength doesn’t mean she always knows what to do. She questions, pushes back, makes mistakes and has to figure out whom she can trust.

Rome and Cassiel also have more depth than their roles initially suggest. Their relationship already has history and an unspoken understanding before Carlotta becomes part of it, giving their dynamic a fascinating foundation. Their pasts help explain some of their choices without making those choices automatically forgivable.

I also enjoyed how closely the romance and mystery are intertwined. The growing connection between the three never completely overshadows the larger story, and every new revelation made me question what I thought I knew.

My biggest issue was that I sometimes wanted more time with the characters and their relationships. Some emotional moments could have benefited from being allowed to breathe a little longer.

And that ending? Absolutely not what I was prepared for. 😳 It left me with plenty of questions for the next book and made me look back at the story differently.

A dark, complicated and addictive beginning to a trilogy with characters I’m definitely not ready to leave behind.

Thank you to @lovenotes.pr for sending me an ARC copy.

⭐️ It’s the fact I recognize that voice. Only, I never learned his name. No. I’ve only ever known him as Sir.⭐️

Having read Elle’s previous books and loved them, I knew I would love this too. It was completely different from her first series though.

Darker, why choose and allllllll the spice. Ob-sessed. We meet Carlotta first. Escaping her old world of mafia rules, she finds herself in the club Nameless. Where her darker desires get fulfilled by a man she only knows as Sir.

Rome and Cassiel are deep in the world of mafia rules, with Rome being at the top. Oh and Rome? He is Sir. 😮‍💨 and I bet you are thinking where does Cassiel come into this? He is Rome’s right-hand man, bodyguard, best friend and most importantly partner in every sense of the word. I’m sad we didn’t get any big scenes of all three of them together BUT with it being a cliffhanger at the end I’m excited for more.

The build of their story becomes more intertwined with every chapter, with every secret uncovered there were more come to light. You can’t help but be dragged into the book wanting to know everything.

I loved Carlotta and Cassiel, they vibe off each other, of course I love Carlotta and Rome together, but he makes some less than ‘good’ choices which makes Carlotta hate him. But also love him. 🫣 And lastly I love Rome and Cassiel together, they are so hot together.

I’m excited for book 2, especially with that last revelation. 🫢

Blood and Lies consists of secrets, hidden identities, and layers of mafia connections (and a web of tension). Carlotta is our main character, female. She is looking to outrun what was made to be hers. When we meet her she is on the hunt for submission of the highest form. What she finds is Sir.

We do find out who Sir is later but that I am not going to ruin for you.

Rome and Cassiel are our main male characters mixed up in the mafia and boy do they have secrets which you will learn when you read. Did you think I was going to spoil it?

If you were expecting this to be a high heat situation, it's not. I do LOVE a slow burn and this one was achingly slow. Trust though once we got to the spice it was WORTH the wait. This book was MESSY in the best way. The secret of Sir, the romance being interwoven into the mystery/story was done so well.

I will say though...

I wanted more... when I got to the end I kept hitting the 'turn the page' and there wasn't anymore. I was frothing at the mouth for more... so maybe is there another part to this coming? Because if not, I will be sad.

I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing.

I received this book a while ago as an arc. Despite having read the entire story in quite a short amount of time, this book felt really messy.

One thing in particular set me off while reading:
The author reused some phrases over and over again, which I found a bit odd. One example I can think of off the top of my head would be “poker hot [.]”. Mind you, I am not a native speaker and yet I found myself stumbling over the phrasing at times, because I’ve rarely- okay, never seen this term being used- especially so frequently.
I don’t want to accuse the author of using AI, because these might just be phrases that they like to use. Nevertheless, I have to admit that this usage of unconventional phrases leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But who am I to judge.

I am always a bit more forgiving when it comes to arcs which is also the reason why I only now published my unsolicited thoughts on this book.
Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for receiving this book as an arc. Still, I can’t overlook how the writing appeared- more often than not- off.

also??? LOTTIE???? PRINCESS????? lucky lucky fucking girl😭🫡

I was genuinely pissed when this ended because HELLO??? I NEED MORE. I need more RIGHT NOW. give me book two IMMEDIATELY PLEASE AND THANK YOU????? 😭😭😭

love made men, love the mafia, holy FUCK do I love this book. I’m obsessed. I’m unwell. I need MORE.

I did NOT want this book to end. There was the perfect balance of plot and spice for me in this. You get the mafia romance aspect, but then add in two hot as sin dominant men with a dark past and loads of big secrets who are already together romantically and you get an explosive trio. Well, we will in next book officially.

I literally had to put this book down and take a lap to cool down several times. Rome is incredibly dominant and the way he takes charge gives me full body goosebumps. But Cassiel? Oh my god, the mouth on that man. I was sitting reading with my mouth wide open like did he really just say that? 🥵🔥

Learning the big secret at the end was a HUGE shock for me. I was NOT expecting that to be the cliffhanger AT ALL. I'm desperate for book two, What a freaking whirlwind!

I really liked Carlotta and how determined she was to figure out what actually happened to her brother even if it meant throwing herself right back into a dangerous world she has tried to escape.

The masked man mystery was easily one of my favorite parts. Rome and Cassiel both brought something completely different and I’m curious to see where this why choose situation is going. 👀

There were a few parts that moved a little slower than I wanted but the ending definitely made sure I’ll be continuing this series.

Thank you for the ARC Copy!

First of all, I went into this book without any expectations, and I ended up really enjoying it, even though it’s a slow-burn romance!

The plot is surprisingly interesting, starting with a secret identity that eventually leads into a secret society/mafia bond and then an MMF relationship. There are also some unexpected twists along the way that kept me curious!

And the spice??? YUMMMM! 🔥 The tension and chemistry between the three of them are sooo good, and I was definitely enjoying every bit of it. 👀

But can we talk about that ending????? THAT CLIFFHANGER??? 😭 I NEED THE NEXT PART ASAP! I can’t wait to see what happens next!

🖤 I BEG YOUR FINEST PARDON?!

A MASKED MAN?!

A MAFIA DYNASTY?!

A SECRET SOCIETY FULL OF DANGEROUS MEN?!

AND A WHY-CHOOSE ROMANCE?!

ELLE KNOX. MA’AM. COME HERE. WE NEED TO DISCUSS THIS ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE OF QUESTIONABLE DECISION-MAKING.

Because apparently you’ve decided to combine approximately SEVENTEEN of my favorite literary weaknesses into one book.

And I, being the responsible and emotionally stable adult that I am, immediately abandoned all other obligations.

MASKED MEN AND MAFIA?! BABES, THAT’S NOT A BOOK DESCRIPTION. THAT’S A PERSONAL INVITATION.

Elle Knox is a new-to-me author, and Blood & Lies was one deliciously dark introduction.

Four stars. Three peppers. And a deeply concerning interest in men whose faces I apparently don’t need to see to make terrible decisions.

Carlotta Bellucci has spent ten years building a life away from her mafia family.

Freedom. Independence. Financial stability.

A peaceful existence without dangerous men controlling her every decision.

WE LOVE A WOMAN WITH BOUNDARIES.

Although Carlotta does have one rather interesting extracurricular activity.

Weekly encounters with a mysterious masked man known only as Sir.

No names. No faces. No strings.

Just a carefully established arrangement that satisfies some very particular interests.

MA’AM. YOUR WORK-LIFE BALANCE IS FASCINATING.

And honestly?

A masked stranger who treats her like a princess while keeping his identity secret?

I’M LISTENING. RESPECTFULLY. WITH BOTH EARS.

But apparently Carlotta’s peaceful little existence has reached its expiration date.

When her older brother Cristiano is murdered, she’s pulled straight back into the dangerous world she fought so hard to escape.

Suddenly, she’s expected to inherit his position within the Bellucci dynasty.

AND a place within a mysterious organization called The Thirteen.

EXCUSE ME. THE WHAT?!

Because apparently regular mafia politics weren’t sufficiently complicated.

WE NEEDED A SECRET SOCIETY TOO.

And naturally, Carlotta wants answers.

Who killed her brother? What is The Thirteen hiding? And just how many dangerous men does one woman have to investigate before somebody gives her a proper explanation?!

SOMEONE GET THIS WOMAN A WHITEBOARD AND A VERY EXPENSIVE ATTORNEY.

Enter Rome Folonari.

Powerful. Dangerous. Commanding.

A man who apparently considers authority a personality trait.

And Cassiel Angelo.

Rome’s bodyguard, closest confidant, and a man whose relationship with him is considerably more complicated than a simple professional arrangement.

OH?!

OH, WE’RE DOING THIS?! 👀

Because these two have HISTORY.

Secrets. Loyalty. An established connection that exists long before Carlotta enters their complicated little universe.

And I LOVED that.

One of my favorite things about this story was that Rome and Cassiel weren’t simply two attractive men competing for the heroine’s attention.

Their relationship already has depth.

They have their own emotional baggage, their own experiences, and their own complicated connection.

Carlotta doesn’t erase that history.

Instead, her presence introduces an entirely new layer of tension.

AND BABES, THE TENSION WAS TENSIONING.

But here’s what really made this story work for me.

THE MYSTERY ACTUALLY MATTERS.

THANK YOU.

Because sometimes I pick up a dark mafia romance and discover the criminal empire exists solely to give the MMC a collection of expensive suits and an excuse to say “mine” seventeen times.

WHERE ARE THE CRIMES, GREGORY?!

WHERE IS THE ACTUAL PLOT?!

Thankfully, Elle Knox understood the assignment.

The secrets surrounding Cristiano’s death, The Thirteen, and the tangled relationships between these characters kept me questioning practically everything.

Every revelation seemed to uncover another secret.

Every answer created three more questions.

And every time I thought I’d figured something out?

SURPRISE, YOU MORALLY COMPROMISED LITTLE FOOL.

I absolutely loved how the romance and mystery developed together.

Neither felt completely disconnected from the other, and the deeper we traveled into this criminal world, the more complicated everyone’s motivations became.

Now, Carlotta?

THAT’S MY GIRL.

She’s spent years establishing an identity outside her family’s influence, and suddenly she’s being forced to navigate the very world she escaped.

But she’s not simply a helpless woman waiting for dangerous men to make decisions for her.

She questions things.

She pushes back.

She makes mistakes.

And she doesn’t automatically trust someone just because he’s attractive and possesses the emotional accessibility of a locked bank vault.

A HEROINE USING HER BRAIN IN THE PRESENCE OF BEAUTIFUL MEN?!

WE LOVE TO SEE IT.

Rome and Cassiel were equally intriguing, although for very different reasons.

Their histories explain some of their behavior without magically excusing every questionable decision.

And TRUST ME.

There are QUESTIONABLE DECISIONS.

Sir, being devastatingly attractive does not automatically exempt you from accountability.

ALTHOUGH MY KINDLE WOULD LIKE TO FILE AN APPEAL.

And then there’s the slow burn.

OH, THE SLOW BURN.

Despite the deliciously scandalous premise, this story doesn’t immediately abandon its plot for nonstop spicy extracurricular activities.

The tension builds.

The dynamics shift.

And the relationships become increasingly complicated.

When the spice finally delivers?

WELL, HELLO THERE.

THREE PEPPERS AND A MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR MY LAST FUNCTIONING BRAIN CELL. 🌶️

I will admit, however, that I occasionally wanted the emotional development to have a little more breathing room.

With three central characters, existing relationships, complicated histories, and enough secrets to bankrupt an intelligence agency, there’s a LOT happening.

Some moments deserved more time to settle before the next revelation arrived.

And I would’ve loved a little more exploration of how the relationships were changing beneath all that tension.

Because the potential was absolutely there.

I JUST WANTED TO MARINATE IN THE EMOTIONAL CHAOS A LITTLE LONGER.

AND THEN THAT ENDING?!

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

ELLE.

MA’AM.

YOU CANNOT JUST DROP THOSE DEVELOPMENTS INTO MY LAP AND EXPECT ME TO GO ABOUT MY DAY LIKE A FUNCTIONING MEMBER OF SOCIETY.

I HAVE QUESTIONS. I REQUIRE ANSWERS. I WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK TO THE NEXT BOOK IMMEDIATELY.

No spoilers from me, because discovering the truth is half the fun.

But just know that I finished this book staring at my Kindle like it had personally betrayed me.

FINAL VERDICT:

Four stars and three peppers for a deliciously twisted mafia romance packed with secrets, hidden identities, complicated relationships, and dangerous men who desperately need better communication skills.

Blood & Lies delivered an intriguing mystery, a strong heroine, and a romantic dynamic that kept me invested.

Would I have liked a little more emotional depth in certain moments? Absolutely.

But did I thoroughly enjoy this tangled web of lies, attraction, and criminal nonsense?

YOU BET YOUR FLUFFING MASK I DID.

Elle Knox, you’ve officially earned yourself another reader.

And as for my fictional husband collection?

Apparently, we’re adding masked mafia men now.

Because my standards remain extremely simple.

Be fictional.

Be dangerously attractive.

Have enough secrets to require a government investigation.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS UNHOLY, KEEP THE MASK ON. 🖤🩸😈

She left the mafia at nineteen and kept exactly one secret: a masked stranger she only ever called Sir. Now her brother is dead, a secret society wants her seat at the table, and the man who runs it sounds awfully familiar. Blood and Lies is dark, dangerous, and ridiculously hot, and that ending is going to ruin your week.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Carlotta Bellucci did what every sensible mafia daughter dreams of: she left. At nineteen she walked away from the family business, the violence and the whole "marry whoever Papa picks" tradition, and built a quiet, independent life. For ten years it worked, give or take one very specific hobby. Once in a while she slipped into Nameless, an exclusive kink club, to meet a masked man she knew only as "Sir." No names, no backstory, no questions. Healthy boundaries. Gold star. The kind of arrangement that works perfectly until the universe remembers it has a plot to deliver:

"It's the fact I recognize that voice. Only, I never learned his name. No. I've only ever known him as Sir."

Then her older brother Cristiano turns up dead, and Carlotta gets dragged straight back into the dynasty she spent a decade avoiding. Congratulations, you're the new heir! Here's your seat at The Thirteen, a secret society whose existence nobody mentioned to you, ever, not even once, because mafia families are not big on onboarding. Her brother's death raises exactly the kind of questions that get people killed, and Carlotta is the only one who seems willing to ask them.

And then comes the initiation, which is where the book hands us the plot twist we were all pretending not to see coming: the man who runs The Thirteen, the commanding, terrifying Rome Foronari, is Sir. Her masked, anonymous, very-much-no-strings partner is the head of the secret society she's now being forced to join. Zero conflicts of interest. Totally normal workplace dynamic. Alongside him is Cassiel Angelo, Rome's bodyguard, who stirs up some very inconvenient feelings of his own, because apparently one complicated, power-imbalanced, life-threatening romantic situation wasn't enough for her. As the secrets stack up, the politics turn deadly, and the book swerves into a jaw-dropping revelation that rewrites everything Carlotta thought she knew, it ends on a cliffhanger that should be illegal. Book one of three, naturally, so see you in book two.

I gave this 4 stars. It was an ARC read and my very first book by this author, and I really liked it! The tension between Carlotta (aka Red) and Rome (aka Sir) is soooo hot. Every scene they share crackles. And Carlotta is exactly the right amount of savage and mafia princess: she's tough, she's sharp, she doesn't wait for anyone to rescue her, and she still manages to be glamorous about it. I liked everything about that.

Blood and Lies had me in a chokehold. The tension between characters, Learning about a Secret Society, and surviving grief. I also love the world building as we get to discover the Secret Society, and they connection to Carlotta’s brother Cristiano Bellucci.

Carlotta is a member of a k*nk club called “Nameless”, where everyone wears masks and no one knows each other’s names, to meet up with “Sir”. Sir is everything you would want. Tall, dark, and handsome, and will talk you through it. Their relationship is strictly

Sir has a bodyguard named Cassiel and he is also handsome, with a muscular build and gives all the praise k*nks you want. Carlotta seems to also be interested in Cassiel even though, Sir is her main eye candy. I could tell he would be trouble 😈

After Cristiano’s death, Carlotta finds out her brother was into something and later on finds out about the Secret Mafia. Carlotta now has to take his place as a member of the Mafia called the 13 as, she is apart of the Bellucci family. She meets the Mafia leader Rome, who sounds exactly like “Sir”. She puts clues together and finds out, Sir is Rome!

During the initiation, Rome put Carlotta in a very dangerous situation, that he thought she was able to get through as, she is from a Mafia family. After feeling betrayed Carlotta leans on Cassiel as he also cares for her and wants to protect her. All the while, him and Rome are together and have been for years!! But, Carlotta doesn’t know yet.

Carlotta’s and Cassiel’s tension is through the roof. She was upset with Rome so, of course Cassiel is the next best to let her frustration out. After a steamy night together, their relationship grows. He’s the protector, and the safe space she needs. She is more comfortable with Cassiel than Rome but, she doesn’t mind.

I actually love Cassiel’s and Carlotta’s relationship as he seems to genuinely care for her. He is the type to make you breakfast in the morning from scratch, hold you when you’re scared, but will ruin you, when things get hot and heavy.

I had to squeal a few times with their scenes. I feel like Cassiel is more Boyfriend coded and Rome is more Alpha/Daddy coded. Cassiel is more gentle and assuring with Carlotta and I feel that’s why she feels safe with him. I mean hey! Why not both 😁😈

The end leaves on a cliff hanger of how long Rome actually knew of Carlotta, from her past and his love for her! Yeah I know… how has he known her for so long, and she is just finding out…I’m so ready for Blood and Truth!! This is definitely a 5 ⭐️ read!

Blood and Lies starts off with Carlotta who ten years prior with the help of her brother Cristi escaped the cluthes of her mother and the Bellucci mafia dynasty.
She has a new life now one were she is happy , visiting a sex club called Nameless (she has to wear a mask) where her desires are met by 'Sir' her match via the database. His bodyguard Cass stands guard at the door whilst she has an amazing time with her mystery man. Not knowing who he is is what she wants. She loves taunting Cass his bodyguard who is huge and likeable.

When her brother turns up dead at her family's estate she is devasted , pulled back into the mafia world she left. Trying to find answers she has an invitation to join the Thirteen, a secret organsiation that her brother was in, as his siblings she is offered the chance to take his place. Carlotta eager to find answers about her brother's death accepts the invite amd goes along to the next meeting. What she can't believe is the voice of the head of the Thirteen is her 'Sir'. Rome Foronari, she now has a name to the mystery man at Nameless!

Twists and turns, secrets between Carlotta, Rome and Cass. One being that Rome and Cass live together as friends and lovers and have done for years! Adding Carlotta to the mix is everything Rome and Cass have wanted!
Parrcels delivered to Carlotta that she doesn't disclose. Lots of angst amd tension that lead to a MMF relationship! The steam is second to none! And the second half of the book I feel belongs to Cass, Rome takes a backseat as he unitentionally hurts Carlotta.
I like Cass but Rome to me is the typical mafia man, so hopefully as the story develops we get to read more aboit him. The ending certainly expains lots more and why Rome did what he did! I really enjoyed this story, it gripped me, left me wanting answers and definately deserves picking up! I haven't gone into to much detail of the plot as I would go in blind, it's a brilliant book and am eager for the next book in the series which promises so much more from these fab characters!
Thanks to @lovenotes.pr and @elleknoxauthor for the ARC copy. All thoughts are my own.

I absolutely loved this story and I cannot wait for book 2 to see where it goes and how the story and characters develop🖤

I was literally hooked to this book just after chapter 1!! You know you’re in for a good time when an author can get you gripped that quickly to the story, and the characters and Elle did not fail! I had to keep reading to find out what happens next, the plot is plotting, the twists are twisting and the spice is spicing🖤

We have our FMC Carlotta who comes from a mafia family that she left behind to start over a new life. Her father had passed away who she was really close to, but suffered the hands of her emotionally abusive mother who was forcing her into a life she didn’t want.

Carlotta meets a guy online who she visits in a kink club, but she never sees his face as one of his rules is that she wears an eye mask, I wonder why this is👀 Let’s just say things get very hot and steamy between these pair, he is her sir and she obeys😮‍💨

We have our MMCs Rome who is the leader of a secret society called ‘The Thirteen’ and we have Cassiel who is Rome’s bodyguard/best friend/lover. Since Carlotta’s brother died, it is down to Carlotta to take his place amongst The Thirteen to find out answers on her brother’s death, but don’t be fooled and things are not always as they seem in this story and there’s always a little twist to having you shouting “what?!” if you’re anything like me😂

Feelings develop, loyalties are tested, trust is broken and it is a rollercoaster of a ride that keeps rising and dropping! I honestly enjoyed this book so much, and I know everyone else is going too! The characters are undeniably captivating, they will make you sweat! The spice in this book is so hot🥵 They’ll also have you falling for their charm!

Cassiel is a golden retriever to Carlotta but make no mistake he is lethal when he needs to be to anyone else! He is so hot and flirty, but so caring considering he is a little broken soul. Rome is also a broken soul, who may not make the right choices but he does them with the purest intentions and he is the type to burn the world down for you🔥 it is so endearing how him and Cassiel came together and saved each other, I couldn’t choose a favourite out of these, I love them both!

Carlotta was always groomed to be a perfect trophy wife and not have her own feelings or choices but once she’s set free and starts over she is a full on firecracker now, she can put Cass and Rome both in their place and I think she is the perfect balance for them both🖤

Blood and Lies by Elle Knox delivers a compelling and dark dive into organized crime, blending high-stakes mafia intrigue with a complex, slow-burn MMF romance.

The narrative introduces Carlotta, a woman attempting to outrun her mafia origins by seeking refuge in the exclusive underground club, Nameless.

There, she encounters a mysterious club Dom known only as Sir, who fulfills her darkest desires—only for her to discover that he is none other than Rome, the powerful head of the mafia hierarchy.

What elevates the story is the addition of Cassiel, Rome’s bodyguard, best friend, and romantic partner.

The resulting dynamic between the three is deeply compelling, built on an already genuine bond between the two men that expands into a fiercely protective, high-tension relationship once Carlotta enters the fold.

The romantic elements never feel divorced from the plot, as the spice and suspense feed directly into one another.

Each character carries the weight of a painful childhood, making their eventual bond feel hard-won and deeply resonant within a powerful framework of found family.

The true triumph of the novel is its plotting. The progression of secrets feels organic, and the story continually expands just when the rules of the world seem clear.

While the narrative leaves room for more full-trio interaction in future installments, the pacing succeeds in keeping readers thoroughly off-balance.

Culminating in a jaw-dropping cliffhanger that reframes the entire narrative and demands an immediate second read, this is a sharp, atmospheric exploration of dark romance that proves entirely willing to upend its own premise for the end result.

This trio! And I did not see that ending coming!

Carlotta just wanted a normal-ish life with her nameless Dom at her kink club and possibly his bodyguard. She never expected to see him outside the club in the last place she ever thought possible - a secret invitation to a secret group of Mafia leaders after the passing of her brother. Rome is the head of the group, and Cassiel is the bodyguard, and they’re in a relationship together but also want Carlotta. Together, they initiate her into the group and learn how sheltered she was raised. Now, Rome has to work his way back into her good graces while Cassiel has a chance to get to know her. But just as it seems like they’ll start on the three of them, Carlotta is shot, and when she wakes, we’re hit with a small detail Rome hid from her.

This is book one of a trilogy and leaves us with a couple of questions.

This was such an entertaining book, and I want to know more about this group and how deep Rome was with Carlotta’s brother and what more they’re looking into for his death. It will be interesting to see if she shares what was sent to her before she found out about his death or if she’ll keep that to herself. I can’t wait to see the three of them together as individual couples together are hot, but I could see all three together being amazing. It will also be interesting to see how long it takes for Carlotta to process the information she was given at the end of the book and if that still stands, or if her brother ended it.

I received an advance review copy from Love Notes PR, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This had me hooked right from the very first line – what a brilliantly tense, twisty start to a new series.

I’ve got this perfect little secret life. I walked away from my family’s chaotic, dangerous world ten years ago, built something quiet and safe for myself… and I meet a man. We call him Sir. He knows exactly what I want, treats me like gold, and I’ve never once seen his face. It’s everything I need – no ties, no questions, no risk of the life I left behind catching up.

Then my brother Cristiano turns up dead. And suddenly everything I ran from is right back on my doorstep. Not only am I the unexpected heir to the Bellucci diamond empire, but I’m also supposed to take his place in some shadowy group I never even knew existed: The Thirteen.

Naturally, I’m not just going to roll over and do as I’m told. I’m going to find out who killed him. So I accept their invitation, walk straight into the lion’s den… and nothing is what I expected. Especially not the group’s leader, Rome Foronari, and his quiet, formidable bodyguard Cassiel – both of whom make my pulse race in entirely different ways.

Then Rome speaks. And I’d know that voice anywhere.

That’s Sir.

Wow. The reveal hit me like a ton of bricks, and from there the stakes just keep climbing. It’s dark, twisty, and full of secrets, with that delicious slow-burn tension you can’t tear your eyes away from. Just a heads up: this is a why choose romance where Carlotta ends up with both men, it’s very much on the darker side of mafia romance, and being the first in a trilogy it finishes on a massive cliffhanger – you’ll definitely want the next one ready! Do check the trigger warnings before diving in, too.

Well this was one heck of a ride. This book utterly surprised me but in the best dang way possible.

I went into this expecting a dark, spicy mafia romance, but the secrets, twists and absolute CHAOS had me completely hooked from start to freaking finish. Carlotta, Rome and Cassiel are such an intriguing trio, and I was EATING UP all the different dynamics between them. Rome has that commanding, dangerous energy, like YES SIR, while Cassiel is just THAT MAN and he has NO BUSINESS being that tempting and if I were Carlotta I too would not be able to choose. Despite the world they grow up in and the things they face, Carlotta holds her own beautifully not only in their mafia world but also between these two men!

I loved that there was so much more going on than just the spice, which by the way the spice was HOT AS HELL. Every time I thought I had something figured out, another secret came to light, and THAT ENDING?! EXCUSE ME?! ELLE I NEED BOOK TWO PLEASEEEEE. I genuinely did not see that coming, and now I desperately need the next book. I need more of all three of them together, more answers, and especially more Cassiel because I am VERY interested in this man.

It was my first Elle Knox book and it won't be the last. This book just raised the freaking bar for me. I love a good dark romance, but add in a why choose and all the suspense and secrets?? Literal perfection, no freaking notes. Like holy heck I am obssessed and that cliffhanger should honestly be illegal because HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT FOR BOOK TWO?!

This book was so brilliant, I haven’t read a why choose romance in a while but this brought me back to my love of them. No character outshines another and they all have the most crazy and sad backstories, but they fit together so well. The plot was also so interesting too, usually it’s the fmc falling in love with her bodyguard, but in this case she’s falling in love with her “nameless club” dom and his bodyguard/boyfriend. Yes this is an MMF which means the boyfriends ARE BOYFRIENDS, and the mm scenes are SPICY! There is quite a bit of smut in this book but just enough to add flavour without taking away from the main plot. Carlottas entire life gets turned around when her brother dies and she’s pulled back into her mafia life, but she’s got the most loyal bodyguard and dom on her side (well sorta). Theres so much mystery and so many secrets in this book that the cliffhanger had my jaw hanging open from the complete shock. This woman knows how to write one hell of a plot twist and it completely changes the trajectory of the book. I would 100% read this book again just to fit in the new information from the end of the book, and I won’t spoil so read to find out. Honestly it hit so hard because I had fallen in love with all of them, Carlotta, Cassiel and Rome all had terrible childhoods but they have this found family in each other that’s beautiful. There’s still much more that awaits them in this trilogy and I cannot wait to see where they’ll go. I give this a 5/5

ARC review ☁️

Blood and lies by Elle Knox

3/5⭐️

Firstly I wanna thank Love notes PR and Elle Knox for this arc!

It’s been a while since I’ve read a mafia/ dark romance book and honestly I went into Blood and lies without knowing what to expect.

I had a bit of a hard time connecting with the story because this is not something I typically read. One of those things being the dynamic with having two MMC’s obsessed with the FMC.

One character I really did love was Cassiel. He was such a sweetheart and was definitely ready to burn down the world for Carlotta. I definitely loved him the most of all the characters.

One thing I wish is that we had gotten to know Carlotta on a deeper level. I felt like a lot revolved around her attraction to the guys and I would have loved more insight into her personality, thoughts and who she is beyond that.

The spice though… it was definitely 🔥🫪🤭.

There were also some misspellings and other small editing issues that pulled me out of the story at times and made the reading experience a little harder for me because it made me confused, but I definitely think the finished version has a lot of potential!!

And let me just say…that ending?!?! WOW.

Overall I definitely think this book is great for readers who enjoy dark/mafia romance with two MMC’s and a lot of spice. While this book wasn’t really my cup of tea, I definitely think the final product of this book is gonna be great 🤍

I signed up for this ARC knowing absolutely nothing about it other than the fact that it was a mafia romance… and honestly? I’m SO glad I went in blind because this book shook me to my core.

Our FMC, Carlotta, has escaped her mafia family and is trying to build something resembling a normal life. But when she has certain needs to be met, she finds herself turning to ‘Sir’ and his bodyguard… and things get VERY interesting.

Then, out of nowhere, an unexpected package arrives, ultimately forcing Carlotta back towards the mafia life and heritage she left behind. And WHAT. A. TWIST. That pull back into her old life was absolutely everything.

As secrets are revealed and difficult choices have to be made, Carlotta’s life is changed forever. And honestly, I am SO glad she made that change because the MMCs involved? THEY ARE ON FIRE.

But just when you think you know where things are heading, the ending comes along and proves you absolutely do not.

That ending was NOT what I expected, and now I’m sitting here wondering how on earth I’m supposed to wait for Book 2 because I NEED ANSWERS.

If you love mafia romance, twists, secrets, morally questionable characters and some seriously hot chemistry, definitely add this one to your TBR!

As someone who isn’t a fan
of a series, I really enjoyed this book, and looking forward to reading future works. I noticed some editing issues throughout, and I believe they were only present in the copy I received. Here is my overall review. Chemistry: Definitely present for all characters, which kept me invested. The pacing was consistent throughout and the story didn’t feel lagging or rushed. Because it’s the first in a series, there was a lot of initial setup and I’m excited to see how it plays out in the future. Spice. Personally, since this is marketed as MMF I expected at least 1 group scene. However, since it’s part of a series, I’m hopeful that those scenes will come later. In addition, based on the way the story went, I understand why it would be too early for this element. And finally, there were some editing issues that took me out of the story. In general, I wouldn’t have finished the book, however, the rest of the story kept my interest enough that I was happy I kept going. Overall, I enjoyed her writing style and the world that she created and I’m looking forward to the continuation of the series.

Well… what the fuck?!
I went into Blood & Lies expecting a dark mafia romance and ended up suspicious of damn near EVERYONE.

This had murder, secrets, mystery, spice, and so many little things that had me constantly questioning what the hell was actually going on. Every time I thought I might be getting somewhere, something else would happen and I'd be right back to side-eyeing everybody.

I really liked Carlotta. She's stubborn, sarcastic, and definitely makes some choices that had me wanting to reach into the book and shake her, but I also understood a lot of where she was coming from.

And Rome and Cassiel... lord. The chemistry in this book was one of my favorite parts, but I actually loved the smaller protective and softer moments just as much as the spice. And trust me, there is spice. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

There are still SO many questions I need answered, which normally would drive me insane, but knowing this is only book one makes me excited to see where everything goes.

And that ending?
WHAT. THE. FUCK.

That's all I'm saying because you can suffer the way I did.

Definitely ready for book two.

🌶️ 3/5

What to expect
🧎🏻men on their knees
🥵 masked men
🔪 pacts made with blood
🔫 play

“Who you would like to swear to you first.” Sinking onto his knees and staring up into my face, Rome presents the knife to me. I turn to see Cassiel doing the same thing, shuffling until he kneels at Rome’s side, inches away from my feet.

I am not one for cliff hanger books but I really enjoyed following the story behind Carlotta. When she said “All I’ve ever wanted is to be able to choose a life for myself and now… Now, that choice has been ripped away from me by this man in front of me.” I felt how hurt she was. When she was sad, aroused etc. the author really made the reader feel those emotions. Which to me makes it worth the cliff hanger at the end.

If I were to tell someone to read a why chose book, this would be on that list. Though I love a couple more than a throuple, I really enjoyed how sexy both men made her feel

Many books have too much information, I normally want a quick synopsis and the rest smutty. This book wanted me to learn how her brother passed.

Thank you to the author and LoveNotesPR for the e-Arc!

First let me say this was an ARC read through Love Notes PR and I want to thank them and Elle Knox for giving me the opportunity to advance read and review this book.

Definitely a 4 ⭐️ read that ends on a cliffhanger. This is a MMF book where the men are a married couple and both want to bring this woman into their relationship. It is definitely spicy as well and I would give it 3.5 🌶️.

Carlotta has escaped her mafia family and is living her best life in NYC. Unfortunately that is all complicated when her brother, the leader of her mafia family, is murdered. She is given an invitation to join the Thirteen in the place of her brother and if she chooses not to she will be killed.

Rome and Cassiel know a secret about Carlotta that even she isn’t aware of. Throughout this first book Carlotta has to decide if she will trust Rome and Cass or if she will separate herself from them and run the other way. However, they may be the only ones to save her from whatever danger is lurking around the corner.

I expect A LOT from a mafia romance, and while I definitely enjoyed this one, it was missing a little something for me.

I liked all of the main characters and enjoyed most of their dynamic, but I kept waiting to feel like I really knew them, especially the FMC. I wanted so much more of her inner world, personality, motivations, and who she actually is outside of her sexual preferences and eating habits. There were glimpses, but I needed more depth to really become invested in her.

That being said, this book absolutely got stronger for me toward the end. The last 20% had so much more of what I had been waiting for, and then THAT CLIFFHANGER. Maybe some of that feeling of wanting more is intentional because clearly this story is far from finished.

I’m definitely hopeful for the next one and interested enough that I’ll be continuing, but I need book two to give me the depth and development I was missing here and preferably for more than just the final 20%.

I enjoyed it. I’m intrigued. Now I just need MORE.

Carlotta has escaped her family and everything that comes with being a Bellucci. She’s built a quiet and independent life for herself. With one exception her mysterious masked “Sir.” Their arrangement is supposed to be simple and private, this works until her brother is murdered and Carlotta is dragged back into the world she thought she’d left behind.

Suddenly, she’s not only expected to take her brother’s place, but is introduced to The Thirteen, a secret society surrounded by questions, danger, and men who clearly have secrets of their own. Then there’s Rome.......

The chemistry and the tension, secrets, and constant wondering about who can actually be trusted kept me turning the pages. But the moment Carlotta recognises Sir’s voice? hello *kicking my feet*

I loved the combination of dark romance, Mafia and intrigue i'm a sucker for secret societies and masked identities. Carlotta is thrown into a world of danger and power, and watching her try to uncover the truth about her brother while navigating her own complicated desires made for a seriously an addictive read.

Wow I had the most fun time while reading this book!!

An MMF that begins in a kink club, absolutely sign me up. After Carlotta's brother passes away, under very mysterious and suspicious circumstances, she is requested by The Thirteen to join their secret Mafia society. With the head of this society being the same masked man she had been calling 'Sir' at that kink club for months.

This was such a delight to read and an amazing start to a brand new series. The cliffhanger might actually kill me, I cannot wait to find out what happens next!

"When it comes to you, Lottie, the rules are different."

And for one of my favorite quotes throughout the whole book because it was so funny; "I shift, feeling a fresh surge of arousal building in my core. Ugh, how can she still be so greedy after last night?" Ugh, the best kind of books haha

Thank you to Love Notes PR for the ARC! 💌

I NEED THE NEXT ONE IMMEDIATELY!

Blood and Lies was a pleasant surprise for me. While I knew it was a mafia/dark romance, the spice level hit from the first chapter, and the story was titillating enough to keep the page turning. I read this in under 24 hours because I couldn't put it down. Carlotta, our FMC, was a balance between independent, damaged, and soft.

Now, I don't typically go for MM (it's just not my thing), but Elle Knox did a great job with this aspect, and I have to say, it was HOT. Our men, Rome and Cassiel, were also a perfect blend of hard edges but a soft, sweet center that made you fall in love with their strong male personalities that show their soft side to Carlotta, and also to each other.

So, as I noted at the top, I need the next book immediately. While the end wasn't a cliffhanger, I am dying to see the next part of this story, and the next phase of the romance.
