Malyah has been on her own since she was 18 and life has been lifin’ ever since. But, she’s finally in a good place where things are goin’ really well for her or, so she thought. Catching her boyfriend in bed with her roommate has put Malyah right back at square one and now she has to find a new place to live. The only problem with that is, she can’t afford to move right now and getting caught sleeping in her office by her boss has put her job in jeopardy. Kenzo is on the cusp of being named the new CEO of Sweet, Savory, and Goode. That is until his parents and grandfather throw a wrench in the plans. An ultimatum is given and, if Kenzo wants to become the new CEO, he must agree. Get married by his 35th birthday and produce an heir shortly thereafter or, he’ll have to forfeit the company. To say Kenzo is displeased with this ultimatum is an understatement but, when he catches his employee sleeping in her office, he may have found the solution to both their problems. Kenzo just has to convince Malyah this opportunity will work in both their favors. When Love Takes Over was a really cute read. I loved the family dynamics. Kenzo had such a loving relationship with his parents and his grandfather. I especially loved the bond between Malyah and Gramps and their shared love of baking. For this to be her first foray into marriage of connivence, Kay Shanee did a really good job. She delivered a heartfelt story that kept me engaged until the very end.

I love a good marriage of convenience romance, and Kay Shanee delivered a story that kept me engaged from beginning to end. The chemistry between the main characters was coming off the page, I enjoyed watching their relationship develop and their individual guards come down. Although there were parts of the story i wanted to spend more time with, I really enjoyed the plot, family dynamics, and the way the romance unfolded.
I love a good marriage of convenience romance, and Kay Shanee delivered a story that kept me engaged from beginning to end. Miss Malyah has been catching hell in life for a minute. Just when she believes that things are looking up, another obstacle falls directly in her path. 💔 Although things were tough, she would make a way as she always does. Her plan to hide out at work until payday is thwarted when her boss finds her in the building after hours. She is terrified that he is going to fire her, instead the sparks begin to fly.
Kenzo is enjoying life and preparing to take over the family business, until an ultimatum is dropped in his lap. Find a woman and be married in three months or forego the promotion to become CEO. Kenzo is livid about the entire situation, especially when his mother is lining up bougie women for him to date with intention to marry. 👀 When he encounters Malyah and learns of her circumstances, he genuinely feels for her and wants to help. He also sees this is as the perfect opportunity for the two of them to use their situations to solve their problems.
Kenzo is all in. However, Malyah is hesitant and doesn't know if she can trust this. However, it doesn't take her long to agree. Their chemistry is present and palpable, but Malyah refuses to put her feelings in it, for fear of being hurt. That's alright as Kenzo has packed his patience.
Then the drama and chaos begin. Mrs. Dinah Goode needed her ass whopped! Just doin' the most, and for what? Trying to impress people who really don't give a damn about you! 😤🤬 Malyah was giving her the business, and I loved every second of it. Then Callie's ole can't catch a clue ass was just annoying and bothersome, to a man who was not giving her the time of day. 🤯😤 Through it all, the couple grew closer and the love blossomed. Would love a recap on them at some point to see how they are doing, and if Mrs. Goode ever finds some act right.

I love an arranged marriage....
However, I have an issue when the less fortunate of the two main characters refuses help when they are in dire need of assistance. Because clearly if you could do it by yourself you wouldn't need the arranged marriage. That was my issue with this book and how the FMC really wasn't giving Kenzo the benefit of the doubt like at all even when he had done everything to prove he was all in, she was a negative natasha until the last two chapters.

Love least expected!
Malyah might be one of the most realistic FMCs ever in a marriage of convenience. She recently found herself homeless after catching her boyfriend cheating, and her boss's son Kenzo catches her trying to sleep in her office at work and immediately feels a spark of attraction for her. He decides that he can solve both their problems. So he proposes she marry him to fix her financial situation and in turn gets his parents off his back about marriage. Malyah is initially hesitant because she doesn't know Kenzo but eventually accepts the deal. I loved that her hesitancy didn't go away until almost the end of the book. She took steps to protect herself, and Kenzo really had to prove himself and his feelings to her, and prove them he did. He showed up for her from the very beginning, and he didn't fight, nor was he shy about his feelings for her. His mother annoyed me because although she gets help in the end, I felt like she should've been cursed out by both Kenzo and Malyah. They were far too respectful to someone who was so comfortable disrespecting them and their union.

Malyah was skeptical of Kenzo and his offer because of her past and acted accordingly by holding her ground; liked how she was able to overcome that and accept what she deserved. Kenzo’s mom was a trip and should’ve been dealt with sooner along with Callie. Both Malyah and Kenzo had great character development.

I love a man who sees a problem and immediately asks, “How can I help?” However, pride and years of taking care of everything herself had Malyah resisting Kenzo’s support. Once she finally relented, we watched Kenzo fall hard and fast while still giving Malyah the space to work through her feelings about their situation.
He was patient because she was getting a little annoying at times with how guarded and reactive she was when he never gave her a reason to be that way. Despite that, I really liked Malyah. She was resilient, didn’t tolerate disrespect, and I appreciated that she never lost sight of herself while figuring things out with Kenzo.
This story was not without conflict (Callie needed paws put on her. And Mrs. Goode…is you cool?), but overall it was a sweet romance.
Also, baby, if it’s one thing Kay Shanee is going to do… she’s gonna write herself an eater. 😏

I loved that this book actually had a plot. The romance was there, but it never felt like the story stopped just so the characters could hook up every other chapter. Everything had a purpose, and I appreciated that.
The characters felt like real adults. They had lives outside of each other, baggage they had to work through, and I liked that their decisions actually made sense based on who they were. The chemistry was there, but so was the emotional development, which made me root for them even more.
I also enjoyed that the author took the time to let the story breathe. There were moments that made me smile, moments that frustrated me, and moments that had me wanting to know what was going to happen next.
The characters felt like real adults. They had lives outside of each other, baggage they had to work through, and I liked that their decisions actually made sense based on who they were. The chemistry was there, but so was the emotional development, which made me root for them even more.

I've been hooked on Kay Shanee's catalog for a minute now and this one didn't disappoint.
Malyah dreamed of becoming a pastry chef and while she worked for Sweet, Savory, and Goode headquarters as their head cook, she hoped one day to apply for her dream job. She has had a series of unfortunate events from the time she was eighteen and every time she thought things were looking up, her world came crashing down.
After catching her boyfriend in bed with her roommate, she pretty much wanted to give up. She had nowhere to go, was low on funds and ended up homeless. She eventually decided to sleep in her office at the job but was caught by Kenzo Goode, III, her boss. She was ashamed but eventually told him she was homeless and he stepped in to help by securing her a hotel room. They were both already attracted to one another and he fell hard and fast.
Between the back and forth, her refusal to accept help and his refusal to back down... this one stressed me out a bit lol but I loved it
Kenzo was set to become CEO of his family bakery company, however months prior to his 35th birthday, he was told he had to be married by his birthday to make that a reality and receive his trust fund. Since he didn't have any prospects and definitely didn't want his mother's suggested suitors, he approached Malyah.
He told her he would make sure she was taken care of, her education would be paid for and he would financially take care of her if she agreed to be his wife. It look a lot of convincing but once she agreed what was supposed to simply be a business arrangement, turned out to be so much more. And of course, where there's joy... here comes drama.

I promise I read the synopsis. Yet, for some reason, I still thought Kenzo had known about the marriage condition for forever and just waited until the last minute to do it. Imagine my surprise when his parents and grandpa just sprung that information on him. Their reason for rushing Kenzo into a marriage was dumb af. I was 100% on his side.
And I understood Malyah’s hesitation, but I needed her to stop being prideful and swiftly get with the program. It irks me when the FMC is down on her luck but don’t want to accept the blessing (the MMC’s money) that God is trying to bestow upon her. Like girl you broke and don’t have anywhere to sleep. Stfu and take that money lol. Malyah got it together though.
Also, in the beginning Malyah came off as very meek and shy. That was a front. That girl got a mouth on her and would pop off when necessary. She also got hands lol. I lived for the moments where she gathered Janie and Dinah by their “little ponytails”. (Shoutout to @_britunfiltered on instagram.)
Now Kenzo. This 🥷🏾 didn’t give an ounce of a fuck about crossing the employer-employee boundary nor what anyone else had to say about his decision to marry Malyah. My boy was gone as soon as he laid eyes on Malyah. Kenzo told her what it was and what it wasn’t and I appreciated the frankness.
And although I enjoyed reading about Malyah and Kenzo’s relationship, I really liked her relationship with Gramps. It was the cutest thing. Even though Gramps was like 55 years her senior, I liked that Malyah finally got to have a loving parental figure in her life.
Lastly, for my smut girlies: Malyah and Kenzo are doing the thangs multiple times on page.

Malyah and Kenzo, were an awesome couple to read. What starts out as a marriage of convenience turns into so much more.
Malyah is a head chef, but has dreams set on being a pastry chef. She has paid her tuition to start school, only to come home to find her boyfriend cheating. She immediately packs and leaves but has no where to go. Kenzo is the heir to his grandfather’s dessert and restaurant company. They have over 10 restaurants and are loved. However, before Kenzo can be named officially as CEO, he has to get married. To add to this, it must be done within the next few months in time for his birthday.
Kenzo runs into Malyah at the office. Something about her settles his spirit. After hearing her story he wants to help her. However, maybe she can help him too? It is not tic for tac, but they both need each other.
Reading how their relationship evolves into more than convenience was a joy. How Kenzo treats Malyah is inspiring. How they have to build trust in each other, especially for Malyah who has not had it easy in relationships. Love really takes over in this story. Kay Shane is a new to me author, but I will be reading more of her work. Absolutely loved this story.

Love definitely took over for Kenzo and Malyah. Their relationship started off as a marriage of convenience that was mutually beneficial but they both quickly fell in love with the other. While Kenzo was all in from the beginning and wasn’t afraid to show how much he loved and cared for Malyah and wanted their relationship to last forever, Malyah kept her guard up for a while, but eventually she could no longer avoid how she felt for him.
There was some drama in the story from a delusional ex and a controlling mother but those issues added a little razzle dazzle to the story. Kenzo’s mother was out of pocket and I wonder what her underlying issue was because it couldn’t have just been her wanting to fit in with her bougie friends, but I’m glad that Kenzo and Malyah called her out on her foolishness and that Malyah didn’t allow for her antics to push her away.
The highlight of the story for me outside of the ways Kenzo showed his love for Malyah was her relationship with Gramps. Those two wear like kindred spirits who loved all things baking.
If you’re a fan of the marriage of confidence trope, this is a good one to dive into. It will keep you engaged from beginning to end.

Mrs. Shanee has done it again! Oh, Kenzo and Malyah had a few hurdles to cross before they made it to the happily ever after land. One being the parents, what happened to the parents that let their kids carve their own path and happiness. When did everyone become so bougie, controlling, and uppity. Trying to fit "in" with the rich and famous isn't cute at any stage of life. Through all the speedbumps, Kenzo stood on business about Malyah. She was his peace and happy place, and no one was changing it. With the assistance of Kenzo Malyah, she was able to fulfill her career dreams. Gramps wasn't too far behind. He was more of the teacher than the paid professors. You know when you expect to fall, that's what happens when two people become one.
Just so you all know, and please don't get it twisted. Kenzo was that guy. He got the girl so he could continue the legacy. Therefore, ladies and gents download, purchase, and indulge in another Kay Shanee masterpiece.

Why are so many mothers in our books bougey, and messy meddlers in their son's affairs. I understand that they all wanted Kenzo to marry by his birthday, but if he tells you that you're not needed to find his wife, accept that. Your choice isn't who he wants or you wouldn't have to set things up because they'd already be chosen. But to constantly keep throwing slurs and sliding side pieces at Malyah’s face was disrespectful and could end up costing you more than you bargained for. It definitely brought unnecessary and unwanted attention to Kenzo and your family’s legacy. When I say I loved how Malyah stood up each and every time for herself, I was proud. A marriage that started out as friends but not real friends with benefits was cute. They each got what they needed for their future. But who knew real love and protection would sweep them off their feet! Loved this and Grandpa was chef's kiss!!

Gramps liked her from the beginning Kindred spirits frfr and then his dad came around too
But his mom I still don't trust why'd would you do your son like that especially after he told you what Callie did because she has money ... Kenzo and Malyah!!
This marriage of convenience book kept me engaged from the very first page. Kenzo and Malyah got married to help out each other. Kenzo to inherit the family business and get his trust fund, and Malyah because she needed a home and the income. In getting to know one another and spending time together, it wasn't long before Kenzo and Malyah crossed the line into first passion and then love. I loved the relationship that Malyah and Gramps developed. You could tell that they were kindred spirits. There were several characters in the book that got on my nerves - Malyah's roommate, ex and mother, Kenzo's ex as well as Mrs. Goode. They were definitely doing too much and needed to sat down somewhere. This was the author's first marriage of convenience book, and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it.

Kay Shanee is one of my guaranteed go-to reads, and once again she did not disappoint.
This was her first marriage-of-convenience romance, and she absolutely nailed it. The characters felt authentic, relatable, and easy to root for from beginning to end. Their relationship developed naturally, and I found myself fully invested in their journey.
What really stood out to me was the third-act breakup. Too often that conflict can feel forced or unnecessary, but in this story it made sense. The characters' reactions felt realistic, and I understood both perspectives, which made the resolution even more satisfying.
If you're a fan of marriage-of-convenience romances with believable characters, emotional depth, and a rewarding payoff, I highly recommend this book.

Meanwhile, Kenzo was thrown a major curveball when his parents and grandfather informed him that he had to be married before his 35th birthday to become CEO of the family business. 💼💍
Without giving away too much, I’ll just say they met, came to an agreement, faced their share of obstacles and drama, and ultimately found love on the other side. ❤️

When Love Takes Over
Fairy tale, this book definitely has that effect on you. It was sweet and side-eye worthy at times because why Kenzo's mama from the South side of Chicago felt like she was more than. It is always interesting to me how people get $2.00 above $0.50 and think they are all that.
Malyah was her change though. Mrs. Goode had to rethink her position and seek therapy after Mr. Goode and Pop Goode tore into her azz.
Anyway, Kenzo and Malyah were a good time. They fell in love while trying to fight it and are still going strong. She graduated from pastry school, and they have a baby on the way. Life is Goode!

my chef bae
What a cute love story. It’s a marriage of convenience/semi insta love. I loved the banter between the couple and how hard he tried to win her and break down her walls and t baby she kept rebuilding but eventually They got their happily ever after. Gramps was my favorite side character he was just the sweetest and supportive bc lawd know Kenzo parents didn’t know what was happening when they showed up to breakfast. I like how Maliyah stood up for herself and didn’t take no mess that made. Over all great story and I would recommend to someone looking for instant chemistry and a happily ever after

love for the win
This was a great read. I finished in one sitting. Malyah worked hard and kept her head down, determined to make a better life for herself. I couldn’t imagine literally having no one in my corner. Kenzo wanted to live life on his own terms but once they crossed paths he didn’t try to stop nor hide how he felt. I love how they both were open and honest for the most part from the beginning. It was laughable how they were trying to avoid feelings that you could practically feel coming off the page. I also love when a bald head ass mama get out in that place. I always enjoy Kay’s books. Go Read it!!

Convenience ain’t so bad
Malyah + Kenzo are what forced/marriages of convenience are made of. I absolutely adored this story. It was tense in spots and packed with real life but also light enough to cleanse a reading palette.

We’re All Goode Over Here!
There were so many gems in the story about perseverance and GOD never forgets his children regardless to how life seems to beat you up. He’ll always give you beauty for your ashes. To say Lyah had the worst luck ever would be the understatement of the year, but despite her unique and sometimes unfortunate circumstances she was resilient. She had goals and dreams and little did she know Kenzo to help her reach them all. They needed each other but ended up wanting and craving each other. I enjoyed it 10/10

Another good one
I've not read a Kay Shanee book I didn't like and this was no exception. Malyah Brownlee was a head cook who was down on her luck. Kenzo Goode III was a man who had to fulfill a demand before he could inherit the business.
While it started as an arrangement, Kenzo and Malyah's journey was sweet. Malyah didn't take any disrespect and I loved it. Kenzo showed she could trust him. Their road was unconventional but worked for them.

Malyah may have been down on her luck but she knew her worth. Although Kenzos offer was tempting she didn’t just jump because she was in need. Reading how their relationship grew into more than either expected was beautiful. Malyah and Gramos relationship was so sweet. After giving up hope for a protege, Granos found in Malyah a kindred spirit someone who loved baking as much if not more than he did. And Kenzos mama…. Girl you know better
