Cursed is the Thief is the first book in the Emerald Fracture series and follows Ziara, a thief tasked with retrieving a powerful artifact. What she doesn’t realize until it’s too late is that the artifact belongs to a dragon… and he’s determined to get it back.
As Ziara races against time to return the artifact to her pack, she’s forced to navigate dangerous secrets, shifting loyalties, and one very persistent dragon.
One of my favorite things about this book was the variety of fantasy creatures. Of course I loved the dragon shifters, but I was so excited to see creatures like minotaurs, brownies, fire sprites, and gargoyles included as well. Fantasy worlds feel so much richer when they go beyond the usual cast of characters, and I would love to see more books embrace creatures like these.
Harley also did a fantastic job with the characters. She created villains I genuinely loved to hate, and even the characters who didn’t seem villainous at first slowly earned my distrust as the story unfolded. Watching those relationships and revelations develop made the journey even more satisfying.
What impressed me even more is that this is Harley Stone’s fantasy debut after writing contemporary romance. Making the jump into an entirely new genre can’t be easy, but she created an imaginative world filled with memorable characters that has me excited to see where the Emerald Fracture series goes next.
And… oh my God, that ending! 🤯 I won’t spoil a thing, but let’s just say I’ll definitely be picking up book two.

Harley Stone's new genre departure is a massive success. She delivers a post-apocalyptic Seattle packed with everything from griffins to gargoyles. Being from the PNW, I loved seeing iconic spots like Pike Place Market get a magical, dystopian makeover. The detailed world-building and character dynamics are top-notch. Ziara is a fierce protagonist, and her dream-bound dynamic with the dragon she accidentally crossed had me turning pages late into the night.

Cursed Is the Thief is book 1 of a fantastic new series by Harley Stone. I absolutely loved it. It was a super interesting mashup of dystopian and paranormal. A mix of the contemporary along with an old-timey feel at the same time and it really works well!
Ziara is definitely a heroine you can root for. She is a wolf shifter longs for acceptance from her family, but something is definitely off when they have her steal a relic from the dragon Arioch.
Arioch definitely a bit full of himself, lol, but the longer we're on the journey, the more he grows on you. And the connection between them is unexplainable and definitely not wanted by either of them.
This is a slow burn, folks. The heroine is not actually with our eventual hero, but there is tons of tension between them and the hate is definitely a vibe. The storytelling is wonderful and along with the fantastic storyline, there's all the action and adventure you need to keep you glued to the end.
I cannot wait to get to the next book and get more about Ziara's interesting past and her inexplicable connection to Arioch.

While this is my first book I have read by the author, Harley Stone, it will not be the last. The FMC Ziara is a wolf with a secret only few know in her pack and the MMC Arioch is a dragon with a lifetime of what I would call distaste for his family. The adventure that unleashes in this book was captivating and keep me enthralled though out most of the book. While it may seem the quarter of the book comes in on the slow side, once your read past that you fly thru reading it till the end. And the end is very griping and unforgettable where you are actually upset that the second book in the series is not out to read yet. That is how emotionally resonant it makes you feel. This is not a very spicy novel; there are moments between the MFC and her lover that will emerge to bring on the spicy you were waiting to read. I want to say one on my favorite things about this book is the enchanting atmosphere in which this story takes place. If like Twilight, Games of Thrones, The Expanse and The Hobbit, this book will take you to a new dimension in your reading which you will never come back from.

Ziara's life is all about secrets, even the.mission her father/Alpha sent her.on is shrouded in secrets. When she steals the stone she never expects to be confronted by a dragon or now have that dragon trespassing in her dreams. Arioch must get his treasure back to prevent madness but also to protect he people from the work Ziara open them up to when she stole the bloodstone. These two will end up in a race across the world Ziara wanting to save her pack and Arioch in pursuit of her and his treasure in this thrilling tale.

✨ This was such a fun read, and I enjoyed every minute of it! I’m incredibly grateful I had the opportunity to read it early, and buddy reading it with my friend made the experience even better. The world building is extremely detailed with fabulous character dynamics.

Apparently I needed a wolf who can’t shift, a ridiculously powerful dragon, a cursed castle, a dangerous relic, a suspicious murder, a brewing war, and enough tension to make me question every life choice that led me to opening this book.
Ziara is exactly the kind of heroine I love. She’s spent her entire life being treated like she’s somehow less than everyone else because she can’t shift, and instead of letting that break her, she gets sharper, stronger, and far more dangerous. Give this woman a mission and a couple of daggers and everyone should probably start running.
Then there’s Arioch.
Possessive? ✔️
Ruthless? ✔️
Powerful dragon king? ✔️
Caged behind enchanted walls? ✔️
Walking around with enough mystery to fill an entire library? OH, ABSOLUTELY. ✔️
And Ziara putting a blade to a dragon’s heart only to NOT KILL HIM…

And naturally, sparing his life is the exact moment everything goes completely sideways. Because Arioch isn't exactly the type to shrug, say “fair enough,” and carry on with his day. Nope. What I really enjoyed was that there’s so much more happening underneath the romance. Ziara has her pack to protect, Arioch has a kingdom and a mysterious past to uncover, and there’s a war brewing that threatens to turn everything into one enormous magical disaster.
And the mystery surrounding Arioch’s mother? 👀
I NEED ANSWERS.
There are secrets everywhere, loyalties are questionable, motivations are murky, and every time I thought I had something figured out, the story basically looked me dead in the eye and said, “Cute theory. Try again.”
The chemistry between Ziara and Arioch is deliciously dangerous. There’s that perfect push-and-pull where neither of them is willing to completely surrender control, and watching their relationship evolve while the stakes keep climbing made this impossible to put down.
And that ending?
RUDE.
Absolutely, spectacularly RUDE.
Because apparently Harley Stone decided that giving readers answers was optional and leaving us sitting there screaming at the book was the preferred method of entertainment.
Cursed is the Thief has magic, dragons, wolves, danger, secrets, enemies, betrayal, obsession, and a heroine who is far more formidable than people give her credit for.
Basically, I came for the dragon.
I stayed for the chaos.
I finished the book demanding the next one.
5 stars because apparently I enjoy being emotionally held hostage by fictional people who refuse to communicate properly. 😂🐉🐺

Ziara was such an easy heroine to root for. Her determination to prove herself despite constantly being underestimated made her journey feel powerful and emotional. She isn't fearless, but she refuses to let her circumstances define her, and I loved watching her strength shine through every challenge she faced.
Arioch was everything I hoped for in a morally grey fantasy hero. Protective, dangerous, and carrying far more emotional depth than he first lets on, he made every interaction with Ziara crackle with tension. Their enemies-to-lovers dynamic was one of my favorite parts of the story, building slowly through trust, conflict, and undeniable chemistry.
The fantasy world felt rich and immersive, with shifters, dragons, ancient magic, and political conflict woven together into an engaging plot. The mystery surrounding the larger conflict kept me invested, and I loved how each revelation raised the stakes even further.
There were a few moments where the pacing eased off in the middle, which is the only reason this wasn't quite a five-star read for me, but the exciting finale and emotional payoff more than made up for it.

I recently read a fantastic romantasy book by Harley Stone, which is a new genre for her, and wanted to share my thoughts. It is a fun read set in a post-apocalyptic, modern-day Seattle filled with dragons, shifters, gargoyles, witches, griffins, brownies, and many other magical creatures.
Being from Seattle, I loved referencing the different locations mentioned, such as the Space Needle and Pike Place Market, and imagining them in this setting. Harley's storytelling, detailed world-building, and character dynamics provide a very clear vision of this new world.
The story follows Ziara, a part-witch and wolf shifter who has trained her whole life to protect her pack. She is sent to steal an artifact to save them, but she doesn't realize she is stealing a bloodstone from Lord Arioch—a dragon who has lived within a magical ward that conceals his mansion from the rest of the world. After Ziara steals the bloodstone and escapes, Lord Arioch then invades Ziara's dreams to help him track her across oceans so that he can attempt to retrieve the bloodstone that she stole from his hoard.
The book ends on a cliffhanger, so I am eagerly waiting for the next installment in this trilogy.

I really enjoyed this story! The idea of going up against a Dragon and causing him angst was so fun! I loved the whole meeting up/"getting to know you"/threatening through shared dreams. It was a unique take and I think it helped to build their bond.
I quite enjoyed Arioch's character and how perplexed he was about this new development in his world. He was arrogant but still likeable and I loved how much Ziara got under his skin.
I really liked Ziara. I actually felt bad for her and the situation she was thrown into. She was a strong character and a fiesty opponent for Arioch. I can't wait for the next book to get more interactions between them because they have some fun banter.

Dragons, gargoyles and shifter wolves are just the tip of this dystopian Seattle iceberg. Harley Stone wrote a beautiful romantasy! It has all things magic, and is so detailed in her writing that you can clearly see her vision. I wasn't ready for the book to end, especially on such a cliffhanger.

I am completely blown away with this book. This is this author's first story in this genre and they nailed it. From start to finish I was on the edge of my seat invested and rooting for the characters. A well crafted narrative. All the details, the dynamics, and the world building were so good. I liked all the varying creatures that were written into the story. And the villains were incredible. This is an absolute must read. I cannot not recommend this book more than enough. And I'm so looking forward to the next in the series.

This book has everything Romantacy readers crave, and so much more. The FMC in this story is fierce. At her young age she has already endured more than anyone should have to in their lifetime, but she will do whatever is needed for her pack. And yes, the MMC is a dragon shifter, but not like any other you've read before! If you've read Harley's contemporary romances you know she is a beautiful writer, but Cursed is the Thief takes her writing to entirely new level. I loved this story and cannot wait for the next installment!

At first, it was a little slow, but if you can get through the first 11 chapters, it will be worth it! I mean, who doesn't love dragon shifters, wolf shifters, magic, and secrets? The beginning was a little like Ocean's 11, with a heist for an unknown artifact from a dragon's hoard, and then it starts to get really good. The end is a real cliffhanger, and I am anticipating the next book.

Such an amazing fast paced story! I loved every character we were introduced to. The author had a great balance of character development & world building so I was able to fully Immerse myself into the story. The way the FMC will stop at nothing to protect her pack was admirable.
Definitely cannot wait to read the next part of the story!

This romantasy was filled with shifters, minotaurs, brownies and more! Ziara and Arioch have an enthralling journey that kept me captivated. I'm already eager for the next book in the series so that I can continue on this adventurous journey.

I love Harley Stone's MC romances. And I was quite curious what she could do with a paranormal romance. And GIRL, she delivered!
At the beginning it took some time to get used to the world. I always struggle with a setting that's a mix of real world, paranormal and some kind of dystopian or fantasy range. But I managed eventually. :-)
And maybe I should lead with the fact, that this first book in this series is not necessarily the romance you expect it to be. But it build a great foundation for what is to come. So calling it a slow-burn enemies to lovers is more than fitting.
I loved the overall vibe and the dynamic between the wolfshifter Ziara and the dragonshifter Arioch and I'm looking forward for what is to come in book two. Especially after THIS ending (which I did not see coming).
