(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to author Nicole Dykes.)

“An athletic scholarship. You had to play a game to get here and you continue to play a game to stay here.”

This was a new-adult story about what happened to Ryan after his break-up with Maddy in book 1.

“I thought we were dating again.”
“What? You did? We never talked about that.”

Ryan seemed quite a loyal sort of person, and it was nice that he was going to college for an education rather than to party and have sex.

“If I never see a football in person after college, I’d be okay with that.”

The storyline in this was about the romance mainly, and there was a bit of going over old ground again, as the first 20% was some of the events from book 1 from Ryan’s point of view.
The romance happened between Ryan and a girl called Lindsay, and she was quite a sweet girl. I felt really sorry for her when it seemed like Ryan was totally blind to her feelings.

“We were just talking about how I’m broken. And how I don’t want a relationship.”
“I don’t either. Not even a little bit. That’s why it’s perfect.”
“Why what is perfect?”
“This. We can hook up or whatever and just be friends. No pressure. No relationship.”

The ending to this was pretty happy, and I was glad that things seemed to be working out for Lindsay and Ryan.

Rebound is the third book in the Soulmates series. The series is based on a group of friends and their journey from high school to young adulthood. The first book was focused on Maddy and her journey (in her POV). The second book was focused on Jake (and his POV). Book 1 and 2 were very similar in style. Jake and Maddy shared a heartbreaking but beautiful love story. However, when Maddy and Jake got together there was one boy that was left out in the cold. This installment is based on the experience of Ryan.

Ryan meets Maddy his last year in high school. He is quite taken by her and wants to have sustaining relationship with her. However, it becomes clear that with Ryan heading off to college, it would be best for them both if they parted ways before either one got hurt.

description

Ryan goes to Auburn on a football scholarship. He spend the first portion of his year mourning his break up with Maddy. We meet his new friends in college and get a taste of his experience as a college athlete. Although everyone is encouraging Ryan to move on from Maddy, he is struggles to let go of her.

At one point, he returns home and ends up hooking back up with Maddy. He mistakingly believes that the two are now back together. Imagine his heartbreak when he realizes that she has in fact been with Jake and is not at all interested in rekindling their relationship.

Eventually, Ryan moves on and becomes friends with a peer from one of his study groups. Although the two take a while to form a friendship, eventually that friendship leads to more. They agree to share physical intimacy without emotional intimacy. We all know that never works in the long run. Eventually, Ryan finds his way with Lindsay and the two form a lasting relationship.

description

Overall, I enjoy the characters that Nicole has created. I am truly interested in their background and their relationships with each other. The plot is well developed and thoroughly explored throughout the series. What is slightly problematic is the rapid time jumps in this book. In this installment I wanted more of Ryan and Lindsay together. Because we have already read Maddy's story, I would have been happy to jump straight in to Ryan's story at college.
I missed out on some of the "emotion of the moments" because things were moving to fast. Thankfully the writing style is narrative so there isn’t any question with what is going on in Ryan's mind. I thought Ryan was an extremely likable character and I was very happy that he received his HEA in the end.

WOW.

That was a pleasant surprise! The last person I thought this book would be about, was Ryan. But I'm so glad it was! His story was PERFECT!

I loved his sweet, sensitive, guarded self. I love me a good ol' asshole, don't get me wrong. But after Jake, Ryan was a nice surprise. One I thoroughly enjoyed!

My heart hurt for him so hard cause of what Maddy did. My hear hurt for Lindsay with what she went through with her sister! I love how smart and strong and cautious she was! She didn't just fall into Ryan's arms. She fought and protected herself. I admired her and her strength!

Those two were perfect for each other.

I love how I have 2 homes in this series. One with Jake, Maddy and their crew. But also with Ryan, Lindsay and the gang!

I loved the supporting characters too! Pete cracked me up like none other!

This book was a lot more humorous I think, in comparison to the others in the series but also had more depth and seriousness to it too, with Lindsay's sister.

I think the HEA after Ryan (and his mom ;) ) got were so well deserved and hard earned.

Awesome read! I loved it!

Can't wait to read Andy and Jackie's story!! ;)

Finally!! We get to hear Ryan's story! My heart broke for him as he was in love with Maddy and she did him wrong. I was worried he wouldn't get over her and experience love again.

I loved meeting Lindsay and thought she was perfect for Ryan. I was Hoping she wouldnt break his heart.

I love this series and Nicole does a great job of pulling you in and never letting go! I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the Soulmates series!!

I was given this book for an honest review.

This was a 4.5 for me I really enjoyed this book. ryan went with maddy from the first book but after he left for college and had to finish with maddy he couldn't love anyone else or just move on. ryan went to a college party and banged into Lindsay literally and after a drunken night he can't remember she ends up hating him after seeing him again at a study class then he agrees to go on a double date with his friend to find that the other girl was in fact Lindsay. They got to no each other after this and carried on being friends but when they started sleeping together and still staying friends it couldn't carry on so they just stayed friends but ryan found out some information at his mum's wedding that there was more to it why she ended the sleeping together and once they told each other the truth it was all great. A great read and wish I could of gave it 5 but it was only the small retell of book one and two at the start that I didn't like xx

This book focuses on Ryan, a character we meet in Soulmates. It was part companion novel, part spin-off novel.

The first half of the story is a retelling of what happened in Soulmates that Ryan was apart of, from his POV. You learn a bit more about the relationship between him and Maddy which I liked. You got to see how that relationship effected him. The second half of the story is what happened after his relationship with Maddy.

I think I actually liked this more than the previous books.

Although this is heavily related to what occurred in Soulmates, I think it could be read as a standalone book.

Sweet high scool drama, YA read

Arc gifted for honest review.

I loved soul mates and the ups and downs of adolescent life

Ryans story continues with this theme.

Following on from soulmates this is Ryans side to how he fell fast and hard for Maddy and how his heart was blown to smithereens as he realised her feelings werent mutual and her heart belonged to someone else.

You don't get to see Ryans true feelings in the previous book and its heartwarming to read how such a great caring guy got broken.

Life goes on in college and from Ryans pov you get to see how he moves forward.

Its a sweet, good college read without angst or drama.

Recommend reading soulmates to get an all round view to the plot it makes you appreciate Ryan more.

Good guys finish last, but good things are worth the wait

What a terrific third installment in this Nicole Dykes trilogy, which began with SOULMATES and continued with FATE. Ryan was such an intriguing character that he deserved his own book, and Ms. Dykes has definitely delivered! My review discusses some details. Many other reviews have mentioned some of this, but just in case, slight spoiler alert.

I actually thought the re-telling of Maddy and Ryan's aborted relationship was perfectly done, and not derivative at all. I really, really liked Maddy in the first two books, and I still do...but REBOUND definitely gives a fresh window into her interactions with Ryan. It's not that she's unlikeable, but more that as the readers, we can see so plainly what poor Ryan can't -- that Maddy and Jake are meant to be a couple, and Ryan will be left out in the cold. It takes a skilled author to create such multiple dimensions/viewpoints to the same story, and Ms. Dykes has done this beautifully.

Lindsay is a perfect HEA for Ryan. In some ways they both know how it is to be "pre-judged," whether because of your background or the fact that you're a jock. I had to warm up to Lindsay a bit, but by the end of the story I was rooting for them all the way. And in full disclosure...I lived in Auburn, Alabama, for two years, and this is my home state, so I appreciated how important Ryan's scholarship was, and why it was so valuable.

I'll be watching eagerly for future novels from Nicole Dykes!

Having been raised by his mother and grandmother, Ryan is a good guy and treats women with respect. His girlfriend Maddy has asked to wait for sex and he has no problem with that. When Ryan gets accepted on a full scholarship to Auburn and will be leaving the state he thinks that the best thing to do would be break up so the two don't hurt each other. However when on break and visiting home Ryan meets up with Maddy and thinks the two have gotten back together. When Maddy breaks his heart he vows to give up dating.

Rebound is actually the third book in the Soulmates series but it's the first of the series that I have read. The book read fine as a standalone as far as I could tell having not read the others. The only thing I think maybe it missed a bit that might have been in the others was the depth of Ryan and Maddy's relationship. The first couple of chapters are basically their year together so having time passed that quickly it wasn't really clear as to why Ryan felt so deeply for her as it just didn't seem they'd even been together that much.

My other little critique would be there were several typos I noticed throughout in my copy which brought my rating down a bit too. Otherwise this would have probably scored four stars.

Overall, good, quick romance story from a male point of view.

ARC Review: I loved this just as much as the first two. I loved reading Ryan's story. He's such a sweet and perfect guy and I'm glad he found love again after Maddy. You could really see and feel how badly Maddy hurt him. I didn't get this sense in the first 2 books but that is just because they were about Maddy and Jake. And obviously I love them too. But after reading this I like Ryan more than Jake. Since Ryan was raised by his Mother and Grandmother he was taught how to properly treat women. I wish there were more guys like Ryan in this world. He's seriously everything I want in a man!!

This was actually my favorite in the series so far and thank you to the author Nicole Dykes for giving me the opportunity to read and review your stories. Keep up the good work and I look forward to reading the next one.

Ryan’s Story

Ok so from my book 1 review you know I LOVED Ryan going in. I was a little disappointed that the first say 20-30% of the book was a retelling of what happened in Book1, only because I am not a fan of the retelling of the same book from a different POV. However, once it got rolling I got into the story. I loved how his character stayed true to who he was originally. He was sweet and loyal to his family and his friends. He was the anti-jock, not your normal stereotypical jock, and in many ways that was refreshing. I found some of it to be a little cheesy, “will you be my girlfriend” and “ we need a chaperone our first date” but I get this is a NA so I just took that for what it was. This was a light refreshing read and awesome closure to a character you loved from a previous book. Thank you for telling his story!

i received an ARC for an honest review: i actually liked book 1 and 2 better, i am not huge on the drama and i kind of thought that it would continue from when Ryan was in college, i always liked Ryan's character though from the other books, hes so patient and kind so at first i hated seeing him hurt but then he found his own love which i really liked. It was still pretty good and thank you so much Nicole for this copy!! I actually read it in a couple of hours.
I cant wait to read book 4 about Andy and Julie!!

I really enjoyed this book as good as the rest of the series. This book is the best by far for me. When Ryan gets to college all he thinks about is Maddy and one night he goes out to a party where he gets drunk. Then he meets Lindsay who is in his Econ class. She hates him right away and he doesn't understand why. This is another great book by Nicole. If you like this series be sure to read this book as well. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

I was given this book for my honest review. This is the second book in the series I've read from ND and it too is written in the first person. I have read other books written in this format but have to say I like it when an author devotes each chapter to the other characters POV. Even still I could not find much fault with this one. I actually intended to start Fate to catch Jake's POV but somehow opened this one by mistake on my Kindle. The first 30% fills you in on what took place between Ryan and Maddy and by the time I realized what I had done I was addicted to Ryan and Lindsay's story. Their story focuses more on Ryan's healing from the pain he suffered at Maddy's hand.

I was so hard on him in my review for Soulmates but I am so thrilled he found Lindsay. I guess for me when I read a description for a book and learn who the H/h are I get this idea of what I want to happen with them as the story unfolds. I was really into Jake and Maddy finally together at the Prom when out of nowhere Ryan stepped in and blows it all to hell. Lol. The poor guy lost his heart that night and through most of this book he is just trying to get through college determined not to give it to Lindsay or any other girl. There is no one else for Ryan and that is what I enjoyed most about this book. It had a modern vibe without all the wild nights and bed hopping. The younger crowd may enjoy books written like this because they're at that point in their lives that they can relate and I have no judgment from me on that but it is nice when an author can appeal to several groups at once.

This book, I think, would suit both sides because it has a young feel to it but the couple are just more mature and focused instead of confused and reckless. They are still teenagers so don't think there is no sex involved but it is not very graphic. I'm going to start Fate today and see Jake's side of the love triangle but I have to say this was a very nice distraction and my favorite so far in the series. The recap at the beginning makes it possible to read by itself and still understand what happened which is very cool. I hate series where you are obligated to buy all the books in order to get the whole story and I am proof that you can read them out of order. Enjoy!

This is the third book in the Soulmates series, and to date my favourite. This book is based on Ryan, who we met in book 1.

The book starts off when Ryan meets Maddison at a party, so the first part of the book will be familiar.

Ryan is an all round good guy, who falls in love during his last year at high school. He is faced with a difficult decision between college and Maddison. Ryan makes the right choice in my eyes and chooses his education and fulfilling dream he has had to attend college in Auburn.

In this book we meet lots of new characters, the main characters other than Ryan are Pete who is Ryan's roommate and a real jock by his own admission, and Lindsay who Ryan meets at a party, Lindsey loathes footballers and takes an instant dislike to Ryan.

The story centres on Ryan's issues with ever falling in love again, to the point he won't even consider dating. He forms great friendships with his teammates and even manages to win Lindsey over.

Without giving too much away, Ryan gets his very deserved HEA.

The authors writing style is really starting to develop, and she is able to keep your attention. She doesn't over describe things, but gives enough for you to feel connected.

Overall a good book.

Oh, Ryan. Sweet sweet Ryan.

This book just goes to show that not all lead male romantic interests have to be complete dominating pricks. The hero in this book is the complete opposite and the story was so much better for it. And the heroine is light and fun and perfect for him.

This was a relaxing, enjoyable read that didn't leave me in knots during or after reading it due to high strung characters or crazy suspenseful drama. I do read such books and enjoy some of them, but it was definitely nice to have a change from that.

Rebound has a more realistic feel to it than the other two books in this series. Ryan, his friends, his family, and his relationships seem genuinely real. Not forced, just real. I liked the other books in this series, but this one was the best for me. I love you Ryan!

I just finished Rebound. I have to admit, I didn't really like Ryan in Soulmates and Fate. I didn't dislike him, I just didn't pay much attention to him. I think that may have carried over just a bit when I first started this one, but that feeling soon faded and I started to really feel for him. He's a really nice guy with his head on straight, except when it comes to love, and I felt bad for him. I was pulling for him. Who wouldn't love a man with with his heart and sense of integrity?

This is a great, easy read. I'm a slow reader, but I read this one fast, in about 2 days, opting to read instead of clean house. ha ha
I look forward to more Nicole Dykes' books. She's hooked me.

Ryan!

We always forget about the secondary characters that play a big part in a series. I was elated to read this book. I was also sad for Ryan, the innocent nice guy, who basically got screwed over for loving Maddy, because she had always loved Jake.

When someone breaks you. You have an insecurity, a fright that scares you away from trying to fall in love again.

Ryan was afraid, even though Lindsay is pretty, smart and fun to be around, he still thinks of Maddy. As he spends more time with Lindsay, Maddy begins to fade from his mind as Lindsay fills it. But is this love? Can he love again?

This book is Ryan's POV told from the point of meeting Madison into his college days playing football at Alabama. The first portion of the book is retelling of his relationship with Madison and his feelings as he leaves for college. He has to let go of the pain and learn to love again. Loved how strong his mom and grandma were and being raised by strong women makes for a great guy. Loved Lindsey another strong girl who knows what she does and doesn't want.

Wow. This Ryan is a really stand up guy. Too bad he's fictional.

I loved Ryan. He's sensitive and really mature for his age. I was waiting for him to mess up. To say or do something that would make him the typical teenage boy but that's not him. He thinks before he makes a decision and doesn't jump head first into situations. He really thinks about his actions and doesn't use his little head as his leader. He respects women having grown up with only his mother and grandmother raising him. He cared more about schoolwork and keeping his scholarships through football than parties and girls. He was just a level headed dude. He was perfect.

I'm pretty sure it was the POV but i couldn't stand Maddy. Ryan and her relationship was a total bore. She didn't seem to be putting any effort into it. I just hated recounting their relationship because it hardly was one. That whole part could have been left out of the book because there wasn't any vital information in those pages. He should have just summarized his relationship with her when he got to college and then had their falling out.

Lindsay was nice. Well, not at first. She was very judgemental of Ryan because he's a jock and good-looking. All because of her past and family. I liked her backstory. She was interesting and a definite upgrade from Maddy.

I really liked Ryan's take on college. He was really all business and focused. You dont see that in NA very much, if at all. It was very refreshing.

One thing i wondered about was Corey. He just disappeared and Ryan didn't mention him again after stopping by his mom's.

Overall, this was a light, quick read. And very cute.

Rebound is the third instalment in the Soulmate series.

Your heartbroken.
Devastated.
Your first love has crushed you.
You thought she was the one.
But it turns out she wasn’t.

This is Ryans story.

We first met Ryan in the first instalment Soulmates.

He connected with Madison.
He liked her.
So he did what anyone would.
Asked her on a date.
They hit it off, dating for a while.
Never pressuring Madison into anything.
He was patient, gentle and always aware of Madison and her needs.

But that all changed when he came back to visit Madison.

Guttered Ryan goes back to college broken and hurt.
How can Ryan ever recover?
Will a relationship be something that Ryan can ever have again?
Or is the damage to great?
Or will the one girl he meets change everything?

You’ll just have to read Rebound to find out.

Yet another great book by Nicole Dykes. Full on emotion we couldn’t help but fall in love with Ryan. We loved the way we got to see everything through Ryans eyes, his struggles, his hurt and how he managed to climb out the other end.

Again a definite MUST read.

For us a definite 5 star read.

TRACY'S REVIEW
4 STARS

So in this one we get to read Ryan's story. We first met Ryan in Soul Mates, he was the great guy Maddy dated in high school.

I enjoyed this one for many reasons. I think the main reason was because he never pressured Maddy into more, and genuinely fell in love with her. He had to decide between Maddy and college, and unfortunately he chose wrong.

I had so hoped Ryan was going to be the one and he was going to get his happily ever after. And the author delivered!

Read these in order, you definitely need to start with Maddy's story to truly connect with all the characters and to get an understanding of who they are. You'll like watching them grow.

ERIN'S REVIEW
3. 5 STARS

This is Ryan’s story told in first person. This story was a deeper look into the relationship of Ryan and Maddy. But it was also a great look into Ryan’s emotions and what he was feeling during their relationship and afterwards. I always thought Ryan was a great character and needed to have a HEA for himself. He is such a great guy. He has a lot of emotions flowing through him for a guy. He takes things to heart much easier than most. That also means he gets his feelings hurt. He has a great relationship with his mom and grandmother. A very well written book.

I was sent this book by the author in return for an honest review.

I fell in love with Ryan in the first two books and was sad to see his limited appearance in them both. Therefore, I was quite glad when the author chose to write a book from his POV, and subsequently sent me a copy to review :)

The book did not disappoint. I enjoyed the consistent maturity in the book, rather than the back and forth between maturity, and childishness that the other books had (which was appropriate given their ages in the other books). I also enjoyed the exploration of the many forms of love in the book, as love is not as 'easy' as it is often made out to be, and many forms of love were explored in this book. Lastly, I enjoyed the authors exploration of Friends with Benefits in this book as this has become a more common way of meeting a partner, rather than the fairy tale story that books often portray.

Please check out my blog for a more thorough review:

I would highly recommend this book :)

Even though I'm a huge Alabama football fan, I still really liked this story. :) I actually didn't realize that I read another book in this series until I got into it a ways. Something about it felt familiar, but I purchased it a long time ago, and the cover doesn't show it is book 3 in a series. You don't need to have read book 2, but it does kind of help you understand Ryan's first girlfriend. Without reading book 2, you just think the girl is a horrible person.

I loved Ryan and Lindsey and the way their relationship built over time. It felt realistic, and I felt the relationship grew at a good pace. I also thought the life of a college football player was fairly well portrayed. I know the life of high profile college football players seems glamorous, but it consumes almost all of their time for a large part of the year as well, and many schools watch players like hawks due to NCAA violations.

I think Ms. Dykes is a really good storyteller; however, if grammar is your thing, you will be frustrated. It isn't a huge issue for me, but I probably would have given 4 stars if I hadn't been taken out of the story so many times.

ARC kindly provided by Nicole for a honest review. I had to savor this book and take my time reading it because I just love Ryan. His book is the best by far to me. I was so heartbroken for him after reading his pov about his relationship with Maddy. Now that I have read from his side she really wasn't the girl for him. When he gets to college all he can think about is Maddy and one night he goes out with a couple of his teammates to a party where he gets drunk which is funny because he really doesn't seem like the kind of guy to drink. His teammates drag him back to the dorm so they will make curfew he invited people back and has a one night stand that he doesn't remember. We meet Lindsay who is in his Econ class and he needed to join a study group where he meets her. She hates him right away and he doesn't understand why. Throughout the book she is mean towards him but things change once she gets to know him. This is all I can say on the book. If I say more I will tell the whole story and I can't do that you have to read it. This story is another great book by Nicole.

I received this book as a gift in exchange for my honest review!

When I first started reading this book, my first impression was that this was a third POV book. It was repetitive at first of the first two books. The same events that Ryan was involved with, just from his point of view.
I was happy to finally get to part of the story where it was actually his story and not repeating again the same story. I do not mind a different point of view but since I had already read the story twice in alternating POVs, it was just repetitive. I enjoyed reading his story and how he fell for Lindsey. He didn't even realize he was falling for her. He thought of her constantly an hated when he wasn't near her and didn't see her. It was a cute story.
I didn't really like Ryans character in the first book, but I actually forgot that when reading this book. Ryan is a likeable character and I felt bad for him at what happened even tho I loved how things ended up in the first book with Maddy.
All three books are great reads and cant wait to see what comes next!
