The story was fine. The choppy sentences as a writing style got old kind of fast. I kept waiting for more emotional depth from any of the characters, but all there was were just basic writing that felt more like stating facts instead of delving into emotions. There was absolutely 0 way to connect with the MMC as his longest “speech” or monologue at most has 4 sentences. Everything else he answered in one or two words.
The story could have been so much more if the writer had written in a way that was had emotions and feelings.
Fractured faith. Fear. Fate. Family found. Hope. Choice.
There is more than enough here to turn this novella into a much longer story--and it is my hope that the next stories will flesh out several of the characters with more backstory.
Let me say this, I am all for domestic violence awareness and I have read many of them. Meanwhile, I read fiction for a reason and I do not want to read about custody battles. The writing was subpar and had errors, but I held out hope for it until that.
Good story!! Interesting characters!! I really like the store owner and I’m glad the town came to its senses! I was actually surprised that they would listen to a stranger in the first place.
