First time I read this author and you can bet it won't be the last. The action in this book coupled with the development of the MCs and the incorporation of many unique and interesting characters is a complete hit. Mercer and Zoe don't meet under the best circumstances but let me tell you that the chemistry cannot be denied. Mercer is sent to engage Zoe intimately to gain her trust and determine her role in potential treason. Zoe is resistant at first but the pull between them is palatable. I like Zoe a lot. She's not a pushover. Mercer is : HOT AS HELL. His dirty talk will make you melt. Seriously. Puddle on the floor. As you can deduce, they have quite a few things to work through the biggest of which is trust. The plot is very interesting. Pacing is on point. Imagery is done very well. Characterization is really good and the author sets the stage for a continuing plot line with complex and dynamic characters. I'm really looking forward to more from this author. Did I mention Mercer is hot? Because... Damn. lol

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

Also of note this is my 1500th book read on GR and 100th for the 2016 year. Yay! Except... Man... I read too much. For shame >.< lol

4 - "This runs deep... Better make sure your ass is covered." Stars!

My first book by this author, and I am glad I took the step into the unknown with this one. I love me some romantic suspense and Dawn Ryder, definitely knows how to deliver that with a certain style.

Initially I wasn’t sure I was going to get on with the authors writing process, because there are a lot of POVs in this book, and they pretty much chop and change from the offset, you need to have your wits about you and a decent memory for names and I did find myself having to go back a couple of times in the early stages of the book to clarify who it was talking and what their position in the overall scheme of the story was.

"I want to see what kind of fire you have in your belly."

But once you have all the characters down, the switching between the many POVs is alright, it also gives a great depth to this story-line, and massive scope for the series as a whole going forwards.

If she was hiding a black heart, she was a master of deception.

I will also be honest and say it felt like Mercer and Zoe already knew each other at the start of the story, their meeting at the bar felt far too familiar in its progression, but again once the book got going, they turned out to be a pretty great couple, the sex was plentiful, their verbal sparring absolutely stellar, neither one of them was willing to give an inch initially and it made for some great angry sex.

I liked that although they couldn’t deny their growing feelings for each other, they were both also very aware that the other was not being fully upfront about everything, the push and pull because of it kept everything pretty between them all tense and simmering.

"I can complement you all day with pretty words, but feeling how hard my cock is tells you I find you attractive more than a thousand polished comments."

This is a very complex story, being the first book in the Unbroken Heroes series there is a huge amount of set-up going on along the way, with plenty of characters (good and bad) and back-story being provided. Saxon Hale’s team as a whole have a story to be told, but I like that there are characters outside of that who also have a lot of potential, and will likely have a lot of involvement in the future books.

Dare You to Run is due at the end of August, and I am interested to see what sort of story Dawn gives Vitus Hale, as Saxons brother, he featured in this book, and you are given the background that will play a part in the forthcoming book, but with so many irons still in the fire the story has the potential to go absolutely anywhere.

ARC generously provided via Netgalley, and it was my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.

Sexy alpha and member of an elite special ops team, Mercer, is sent to seduce the sister and the daughter of two highly decorated military service men in the hopes to uncover the leak that has caused military personnel to lose their lives.

The chemistry explodes between Mercer and his target Zoe, but will he find the traitor before more lives are lost. The clock is ticking…

Uber Alphas, erotically charged sexual encounters liberally steamed up the pages in the first of the Unbroken Heroes Series, Dangerous To Know.

Dangerous to Know contained a strong plot, intriguing characters and emotionally charged situations that kept me highly interested in the outcome.

The plot possibilities and what ifs coming to fruition through the dynamics that are being playing out between the secondary characters are something I won't want to miss. This is a series that I will happily follow.

I received this copy of Dangerous to Know from St. Martin's Press. This is my honest and voluntary review. This book published March 1, 2016.

I love romantic suspense books, but this one just didn’t work for me. The hero was such a big asshole, using the heroine because they believed her to be a traitor and he had to sleep with her to get close to her. The way he wanted her to act like a bitch to him because he didn’t like good girls and how he wasn’t concerned about using her and insulting her because he was just doing his job, and then keeping her safe, disgusted me. There’s sexy alphas and then there’s just domineering assholes and this guy fell into the latter category.

And instead of the heroine looking tough, she looked weak and pathetic because she allowed him to treat her that way. Okay she did kick him in the balls once and I was cheering so hard, but unfortunately it only happened once, and the way she would just forgive him for treating her like she was less, like her opinions didn’t matter, because he’s so hot and when he kissed her she lost her mind, disgusted me.

There was absolutely no connection between these two except a case of lust that never developed into anything more.

This was my first book by this author and honestly the only characters I liked was the parrot and the heroine’s brother, so I can’t see myself giving her another try.

Great first book in a new series. Normally you have to read pages and pages to try and figure out who the bad guy is, but this one tells you right off the bat. It really confused me at first, but then I got it.

Mercer and his team are determined and seriously hot. Zoe's a military brat and knows how to get the job done. Fireworks when they together whether in the bed or not. Great cast of secondary characters for future books. I think I'm most looking forward to Thais and him. There were plenty of hints dropped in this book for the next one which is Vitus and Damascus.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Going undercover for Mercer is nothing new but being instantly attracted to his mark is. As a special ops warrior, Mercer is used to dangerous situations but trying to uncover a traitor selling military secrets is second to the danger his feelings for Zoe create. Zoe is from a strong military family, her father and brother are both career military and when her brother calls her with a cryptic message to be on guard, she listens. When Mercer bursts into her life, the attraction is immediate and hot but when he starts treating her like the enemy, the heat between them might just blow up.

Dangerous to Know is the first in a new series and with a suspense storyline that starts off right away, the beginning was a bit of a rough start. We are introduced to many military men and it was hard to know who was who and what was what. I didn't feel like I had a true grasp on things until a little half way through the story in regards to who the villains were and why they were doing what they were doing.

For the first half of the book, I felt like there wasn't much development of story, our hero and heroine kind of just run here to have sex and then run there to have sex. There is a lot of sex happening in this story, it's done well but there wasn't really prior emotional development between our leads to give credence to the sex. Mercer starts off trying to hook Zoe right away with sex, which with their mutual attraction, they have. Zoe likes Mercer's bad boy vibe but even after she finds out that he thinks her and/or family are traitors and he treats her fairly roughly (demanding, treating her as if she is guilty, overall kind of mean) Zoe still has the "hots" for him. Zoe mostly comes off as tough and together as her father raised and gave her the training to be competent but she falls into the trap of being hot for Mercer's body, even when he is treating her less than ideal, too often. Our couple does have chemistry and if you're looking for more sex than story, then they have that in spades. I just wish Mercer could have been less alpha-hole and Zoe less hot for his bod.

The suspense story plot had more substance to me than the romance parts but like I said, it takes quite a while for it to become clear enough to get into. Basically, Mercer works for a secret military group and his boss, Saxon, has a brother, Vitus, who lost his badge because when he rescued a senator's daughter, they slept together. The senator is introduced more towards the end and he seems to be psychotically obsessed with Vitus and how he defiled his precious daughter. The senator appears to have hired or be controlling Tyler, also a special ops military guy, who was Saxon's boss. Tyler along with a more minor villain set up Zoe's family but some top military guys know they have a rat in the ranks and kind of use Zoe as bait to catch them. It's a little confusing but essentially it all traces back to Vitus and the senator's daughter. We get the basics of that story but don't see it. This story ends pretty abruptly and while our hero and heroine get their happily ever after, the suspense plot with Vitus and the main villains is left unresolved. I think the continuing thread that will connect the series is going to be Vitus.

I thought the last 20% or so of the book with the suspense storyline was really good, but what a rough complicated murky journey it was to get there. I found myself way more interested in Vitus and the senator's daughter story and if their book is next, I will definitely check it out. This book was more sex than story and the beginning of what seems like an interesting storyplot.

5 He was just so perfect stars. I think Dawn Ryder has a solid fan for life because this is the second book that I've read by her and loved. The story is suspenseful, passionate, engaging and relatively fast paced. It has one sexy, demanding alpha male who who starts off completely mission oriented until he can't deny his pull and need for his target. It has one clever, loyal and sassy female who doesn't realize how much her life is going to change from the moment she meets the alpha male. In short, I loved the read and can't wait to see who the next book centers around.

The alpha male is Mercer and he's one the bad-boy, leather wearing Special Ops guy who is informed that Zoe is quite possibly a traitor to her own nation or an accomplice. His mission is to seduce her and gather information to figure out which she is. He doesn't expect to lust after her or crave her touch, but that's just the way life works, isn't it? Mercer's ridiculously crafty, clever, loyal and has a good heart. When he begins to suspect Zoe isn't really involved, but an innocent, he does everything in his power to protect her, even though he's hurt her.

Zoe's grown up in an environment with military personnel due to her father and then her brother being in the military. She's been encouraged to be vigilant, to read people, to keep herself safe and to know how things work and leverage that knowledge for her own good. When she gets a concerning phone call from her brother, she doesn't quite listen to his advice as well as she should have. Mercer literally barges into her life and her bed and then all is turned upside down. When the truth comes out, Zoe is angry with herself for not realizing sooner something was off and further angry that she can't stop her body from responding to him.

It's fascinating to see how Zoe and Mercer are so very similar without even realizing it. They both are supremely loyal, read people well and have trust issues. The struggle to overcome the obstacles placed in their way due to how and why they met is strong but they eventually figure it out. Mercer is relentless which is a good thing because Zoe wanted nothing more than to not feel and to be kept far away from him. They understand each other on a different level to which it is easy to understand how they fall in love.

Bram snorted. "Get a girlfriend."
Saxon grunted. "I bite."
"Some girls like that sort of thing."Mercer was suddenly there, draping an arm across her body when she tried to move away from him. He surveyed the scene. "Seems we missed the party." He nuzzled her neck. "I suddenly see the error of my thinking. Nap time isn't just for toddlers. I could become a habitual napper with you, baby."

The story isn't only good because of Zoe and Mercer, though. Bram (Zoe's military brother) Vitus, Saxon and the other Special Ops members make the story have a plot that will span several books before the issue is truly resolved. The plus is different members will get their own love story while working to take down the enemy.

For my full review: http://boundtobeme.org/2016/03/03/dan...

I'm sorry but I really didn't like this book. Right from the start, this book introduced a lot of characters. But the author didn't go into too much detail about them and that left me confused as to who they were, why they were introduced, and what was even happening in the book. The chapters in this book were extremely long. I believe the entire book only had eight chapters.

Zoe's character starts off as a strong willed feminist who can take care of herself. But it doesn't take me too long before I become annoyed with how weak she really is- mainly meaning her inability to succumb to her sexual desires. Regardless of the situation or how upset she is (should be), she easily folds on everything.

Mercer's character was overly confident and had the bad boy thing going on. I felt like he came off more as a brute. I think the author was going for more of an alpha male, dominant kind of guy. But it didn't really work for me.

Zoe and Mercer go back and forth about trusting each other and needing to trust each other, etc, etc. How exactly do they come to this all mighty trust? They have dominate/submissive sex. I somewhat understand what the author was getting at with this because that type of sex needs a lot of trust. But the sex itself never made it to the point where a leap of trust was needed. Or at least I didn't think it did. And the thing that really irritates me is that after all this talk of trust and getting to trust each other, Mercer shows how much he doesn't trust her by handcuffing himself to her. His reasoning was how he needed sleep. So I guess the trust thing was just talk after all.

What irritated me was how the team who was there to get to the bottom line, ends up treating her like enemy for most of the book. Zoe is a civilian whose brother and father are high ranked officers. But the team treats her like a soldier and expects her to respond like one. Maybe if I grew up with a military family, I might understand this book better. But to me, she accepted their treatment, even justifying it at times.

Like I said, this book just wasn't for me. 80% of the book was sex and the other 20% a plot that wasn't very strong. I think my review is not the norm. Looking at goodreads.com, out of 22 ratings, most gave 5 or 4 stars.

I give this book a 3 1/2
Dangerous To Know
By Dawn Ryder
Mercer is sent undercover to gather evidence and to find out if Zoe Magnus, or someone in her family is a traitor or are they innocent. In order to gain Zoe’s trust, Mercer picks her up in a bar and uses sex as a means to spend time with her. Neither one trusts the other. While Zoe doesn’t trust Mercer, she still has sex with him .Both have trust issues.
Saxon Hale is in charge of the Op. He doesn’t believe Zoe is innocent. Saxon’s brother, Vitus was removed from the team because he had slept with a woman he was supposed to protect. This seems to be the reason why Zoe is being framed as well as the many attempts on her life and Mercer’s. The people behind the attempts want to discredit and eventually kill the Hale brothers. The villains are revealed early in the story to the reader. Now the team must gather the evidence they need to send the two villains to jail.
I found it hard to relate to Mercer and Zoe. Their whole relationship was based on sex. I didn’t feel that there was enough character development or depth to these two people. I found the secondary characters to be much more interesting, the rest of the Ops team and the Hale brothers. I also thought the beginning of the book was confusing. After I read further into the story, I went back and reread the beginning and it made more sense to me then. The story doesn’t have a cliff hanger, but sets you up for the next book in the series. I was a little disappointed with this book. I really enjoy reading books by Dawn Ryder, that is why I decided to read this. I would give the next book in the series a try before I decided whether or not to continue reading this series.

This is the first book in a brand new series by Ryder and in the first few chapters it starts off a little different then a lot of suspense romance novels that are out. Normally you have to guess who the bad guy(s) are during the book but in this one Ryder hands them to you from the beginning. While I liked this because it was different I really did miss guessing who was after Mercer and Zoe.

The story starts off interesting with Zoe's brother wondering who is selling classified Intel on where the troops are and what there mission contains. Then it jumps to
Zoe meeting Mercer in a bar not knowing she is going to be a target for this undercover team to find out if she is working alone or has a partner in selling the information.

One thing I loved about this book was the non stop action and suspense. Just when something happens and then calms down something else is in the works to grab my attention all over again.

The one thing I did have a problem with was I thought there were too many people who had povs going on. Not only do we get Zoe and Mercer but the two men who are behind this whole shit storm, Saxon (Mercer's boss) and a few more! Although these people play a major part in this book i felt some of their thoughts weren't needed since you can follow what's going on.

I enjoyed the plot on how Mercer has to gain Zoe's trust by hopping into her bed but I also loved how he fell for her right when he met her. Although they didn't trust one another for two different reasons I thought this was a nice change from other romantic suspense books.

The characters were likable and I love how each of them stood out. This team looks like they will have their work cut out for them in future books. I would say in about the middle of this book you can already see whose book will be next and honestly I can't wait for that!

Ryder writes some really hot sex scenes between Zoe and Mercer so be warned! These two cant keep their hands to themselves when they are around each other and Ryder doesn't just doesn't give you one scene but like 10 and they are all in great detail.

Overall I'm truly looking forward to reading more of this series. Although this book doesn't end with cliffhanger it sets up with the next story so I can't wait! Since this was my first book by Ryder I am already looking forward to more! So Ms. Ryder if you read this keep them coming!

Dangerous with a capital D.
Those who serve the country sometimes have to do things they consider distasteful in order to make sure that they can protect those who serve. When Mercer was assigned the job of getting into Zoe's bed in order to find out if she was a traitor and was helping her family to sell out the coordinates of those who are fighting in the various wars he was at first all for it. That is until he got up close and personal with Zoe. Then all he was really thinking about was his insane attraction to her.
Zoe has always been understanding of her families work. She knows it is her job to provide support and love for her father and brother while they are deployed. But when she finds out that the man she slept with was not actually doing it for pleasure but as the fastest means to find out information she finally decides to stop being perfectly controlled and to actually reach out for help by her brother. But don’t let her fool you, Zoe is not a weak women and will do anything she has to in order to protect those she cares about.
When Zoe and Mercer have to go on the run, and they don’t know who they can trust the combustible factor of these two sky rocket. There was a lot of great sex scenes in this book but the plot line and the character development is what made me give this book a 5 star rating. This is not a book, or an author that you would want to pass up. I highly recommend this book for any romance aficionado lovers out there.

This is the first book I've read by this author, and for me it was an ok read. I found the first part of the book really confusing with all the military personnel introduced, but even as the book progressed I just still couldn't get into it. The book was filled with plenty of drama and Steam and had enough to keep me turning the pages but I really couldnt relate to our main characters. Their connection was quite disjointed and for me this is when it becomes hard to enjoy a book. It's a well written book, I think the author did a good job, but this ones probably not for me.

I truly enjoyed this book but it was a ruff start. In the first chapter and so I was so lost that I thought for sure this could you been the first book in a series. Then it all start to smooth out and took off. Mercer St. Claire is one hot alpha male jerk that will do what's needed to save his fellow soldiers lives. If Zoe Magnus is the traitor behind the Intel breech, he will do what's needed to make her talk. There's just one problem, Zoe may not be as guilty as she seems and Mercer can't keep his hands off her.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series. So much suspense and directions for this story to go.

Sometimes when starting a new series the author has to put a lot of information in the first book to lay the ground work. This usually drawn out an tedious....unless the author is Dawn Ryder.
This story was told extremely well with wonderful plot twists and characters full of snark and sass. I enjoyed everything about it. Deception, family values, trust and birthday cake for a bird. Who could ask for anything more.
Happy reading.

Dangerous to Know by Dawn Ryder is the first book in her new series Unbroken Heroes with a second book to follow later this year. Ryder has been writing for several years, however this was the first time I have read any of her work. It's a fast paced thrilling romance and it drew me in right from the start. There is leaked restricted information coming from the home of a well respected military family that is causing the death of American Servicemen overseas on active duty and a Special Ops Unit is working undercover to determine the culprits and shut down the leaks. The family thought to be involved is very highly regarded with father and son on active duty and a younger sister at home; Zoe is fiercely loyal as well and she reacts strongly when it is suggested to her that she is leaking information to the enemy. She meets one of the Special Ops men at a bar before she's aware of this accusation and she's immediately attracted to the long, lean leather clad biker who radiates confidence and arrogance at the same time. (Certainly, if I had met Mercer at the time, instead of Zoe, I would have been all in)! The author creates an incredibly attractive, yet dangerous persona who dominates the narrative wherever he is featured. As the search for the traitors becomes more complex, with military posturing and double crosses, Zoe and Mercer are thrown closer and closer together, in an attempt to keep her alive. Neither seems able to keep their distance from the other - making them both targets to be taken down.
This is definitely a very well written book; there are sound complex characters who grab your attention; the actions and reactions are believable; it is an engrossing read and at around 350 pages, I literally did not put it down - I simply had to know what happened in the end. I'll keep an eye out for the next book and I imagine that I'll reread Dangerous to Know; it's that kind of story.

~ Book provided by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion

I was meant to read and review this weeks ago, but school and work and life on general got in the way, but hey, better late than never, right? ;)

Anyway, here we go.

While I appreciate a book that starts of right in the story and doesn't have this whole introduction feeling to it, Dangerous To Know would have needed exactly that. I felt a bit lost. Too many story lines, that I magically should have been able to follow right from the start. Too many characters I couldn't place because I didn't get their connection to each other at first, like when you miss twenty seconds of a tv show and 30 minutes later you finally find out that the girl and boy are actually siblings, while everyone else already knew that information. That is exactly how I felt at the beginning of Dangerous To Know.

BUT it got better. After I got a grip on the story I really liked reading the story and subplot. One factor that also played into me liking it, is that I really liked the writing style of Dawn Ryker. She wrote the book in a way that it was pretty easy and fast to read. Also Dangerous To Know is written in big chapters, so I always had a long excuse for not doing dishes and that stuff, because I had to "finish the chapter".

Now on to the characters. A sad thing I have to say is that while I liked Zoe and Mercer individual, I thought they had absolutely no chemistry for most of the book. Nearly at the end I felt some sparks between them, but before that... nothing.
The side characters were interesting. I am especially intrigued by Vitus and Saxon. I really want to see more of those two brothers.

I can't wait to find out what character will be featured in the next book and how the story continues.

I'll admit that I was somewhat excited to read this novel as military-romances are my new favorite contemporary reads so far this year. Yet, the story itself didn't thrill me in the way that I was hoping it would and for the most part there was nothing overly special about the storyline including the romance. In my opinion the romance itself was overly standard without much effort by either the author nor the characters.

The largest fail with the entire plot has to be the sex. I mean this story is completely overwhelmed by sensual conduct as it's nearly on every single page. I felt like both Mercer and Zoe wanted nothing more from each other than a good time in the bedroom. There was hardly anything outside of the plot other than the sex and I don't consider sensual nature and romance to be the same thing. Sex is fine, but not when it suffocates the romance and that is all Mercer and Zoe's story was based around, fornication.

A different flaw that I had with the story was the beginning. I was somewhere lost in the early stages of my reading because the novel kicks off instantly without much detail. I finally got caught up around chapter three to know what was going on, but I think the author's writing style could have been more detailed as I had to keep referring to the synopsis of the book to understand where the story was going to lead.

Having completed my reading I wouldn't recommend the book. If you are someone who is looking for a quick rump with a military hero than this story might be right for you, but it certainly wasn't my kind of read.

This was a pretty good and exciting romantic suspense story by an author who is new to me. Mercer is a special-ops man who is set to seduce Zoe, to find out if she is the betraying soldiers overseas for profit. Zoe is a colonel's daughter and sister to a soldier, so she knows a lot about the military. She is being set up to take the fall and the reasoning is chilling and filled with betrayal.

The story is filled with a lot of action and plenty of sexual sparks between Zoe and Mercer. Their scenes together are plenty hot, so Mercer is torn when his gut tells him that Zoe is innocent. It bugged me a little that Mercer wants to bed Zoe for information. He's being a patriot and taking one for the team, but if it were the other way around, Zoe would be called a lot of unflattering names.

The story is filled with lots of twists and turns. It is hard to decipher the innocent from the guilty. There is gut wrenching sadness when someone would betray their country and its soldiers for power and cash. This is the first in a series, so the ride isn't over yet. I can't wait for another in this exciting new series.

This is the first book I have read by Dawn Ryder. While the premise of the book sounded good, I'm not sure the book itself really delivered. I found that there were just simply too many subplots going on almost as though I started in the middle of the book. Also I just had trouble with the main characters. I have read plenty of books where the woman or man is duped in the beginning as part of an investigation. Obviously there is a sense of betrayal and a loss of trust once the secret is revealed. However, in this book Zoe can't get past her mistrust of Mercer but yet she keeps messing with his head and continuing to have sex and then pushing him away. It was like a loop that just kept repeating. Even up until the end Zoe still can't decide if she can trust the man that keeps saving her life.

Seasoned writer Dawn Ryder starts her new Unbroken Heroes series with Dangerous to Know. Like any good introduction she sets up her audience with all the pertinent information to set the scene. When the facts were in place this book went off like a grenade! Page turning action infused with explosive sensuality took this work to the finish. A hero who knows when to bring on the sizzle or take charge in dangerous situations will set readers aflame as his mission becomes his purpose when he falls for the smart and daring woman he is investigating for treason. Ms. Ryder has a polished writing style that has withstood the test of time as her current work proves and will leave readers eager for the books to follow in this great new series.

I wanted to love this book I really did but seriously after a while it was all about where to have sex and where to find a place to have sex. Sex! Sex! Sex! Is all I think about when it came to this book and I almost couldn't get past that.
The female lead Zoe is tough and because she was raised by her father and hates military guys yet she falls for a military guy.
When the suspense story started the romance didn't seem like it was just sex but a little tiny bit of romance. The main evil doer is left unknown so there will be more stories about the other guys. I would say 15% of this book was story and the rest was sex.

The writing was find, grammar was fine but a better editor could have made the story flow much better with less sex and more sexual tension.

I give this 3 1/2 stars.

This was a hard book to rate because while it technically was a well done story, with romance, action and suspense, I didn't fall for the main characters. That for me is hard, because it's all about the main characters and then the storyline but in this story I can honestly say it didn't feel like a romance between the Zoe and Mercer, it felt like to characters that were put together but I didn't feel them. Maybe because I've read Dawn Ryder's earlier work, I expected to feel so much more from her main characters and I simply didn't. Otherwise, if your looking for a suspenseful story give this a try.

Mercer´s latest undercover mission is to expose a traitor - he never expected the traitor to be a colonel´s daughter, or just how much she´d affect him. When he starts to doubt her guilt, can he clear her name, and who is really the traitor?
Zoe didn´t think the gorgeous man offering a ride on his bike to be a threat to her or her family, but when snipers targets them both, it´s time to run for their lives. Can they make it through unscathed?
Contemporary romance, action, suspense and fluffy smut, and a great start to a new series. Can´t wait to read more!

Sort of confusing. Didn't really get good until the end.
Undercover ops, military family, bad guys, and a spoiled rotten macaw.
Someone is selling out the military operatives and setting up Zoe. Mercer goes in to get close to her. He will do anything to find out if her family is traitors. Even sleep with her. But he doesn't expect to fall for her.
CLIFFHANGER. A bunch of badass special ops guys.

DNF @ 41%
I thought this was going to be similar to Lora Leigh's Navy SEAL series but it just didn't hit the mark. I was almost half way through and I couldn't get into the story.
The sex was mediocre. The action was alright. I couldn't connect with ANY members of the team... it just felt meh.
I have other books to read so i'm putting this one down and moving on.

I like military black ops romances. I read a lot of them. Overall Dangerous to Know was a confiusing read.  It's book one is the 6 book Unexpected Heroes series by Dawn Ryder. Her bio says she writes historical romance under another name.

Mercer (we never learn full name until late in the story & we don't know his rank or what branch of the military he is in) has orders to seduce Zoe Magnus, the daughter of a US Army Colonel. Some sort of Intel is indicating she's in cahoots with traitors targeting soldiers in the field. We don't learn what this Intel is. Apparently this unit uses sex to get their targets to cooperate. Oh-kay. "It's better than waterboarding," one character observes.

The bedroom scenes are plentiful and repetitive with some oddly out-of-date verbiage (Not sure too many modern romance heroines refer to a man's "package" as his "member").  The plot is a jumble of confusion, with a secondary characters naming the villain as a suspect right from the start with no explanation why. (Personally,  I don't like openings of romances that feature a secondary character & no sign of the main characters. ) Multiple viewpoints from the hero, heroine, villains, and several secondary characters make this a somewhat confusing story to follow.

Ms. Ryder is kind of short on details. We never learn what branch of the service these special ops guys report to and we don't get the name of their unit. The story starts off middle of the action & it was a struggle to catch up.  From what I could tell, this special forces unit was operating an undercover op on US soil despite the Posse Comitatus act preventing such actions.  (If this isn't a military unit, my bad. It's hard to tell.) Actions are taken that are left hanging or with vague discussions between characters told in dialogue that made me feel like the characters knew a lot of stuff they weren't bothering to share with the reader. A fair amount of real estate is spent introducing hanging plot points in many different points of view that I presume will be in future installments. I was never really sure of who was in command.

Ultimately, I couldn't shake that this story features a military unit conducting a mission on US soil and the premise felt off. It's so obviously a setup for other stories involving this vaguely explained military group. I felt THIS story in need of some tightening to tell the drama of this book, not setup other books for other cast members that I may not read.

Not one of my favorites.

It's not you...it's me. Or should I say it's not the book...it's me. Maybe. Let me explain. This book starts off quickly with two characters discussing the need to find a traitor. And it takes off from there. But I was a little lost right off. There were all these characters being mentioned, I was having a hard time keeping everyone straight. Plus I felt as if maybe I was missing something, like maybe there was a previous book. At this point I was only about 5% into the book, things had to get better right? Well I continued to read and felt that I was finally getting somewhere. But when the characters names were mentioned I realized I was either still confused or the character was being referred to by his last name. But I don't remember that being mentioned. I am now at 10%. I didn't feel like going back to figure out who these characters were. So I threw in the towel. I'm not sure if I made this book more difficult than it needed to be, but for now I am done. I may give it a try some other time.

I didn't rate this book because I didn't feel I read enough to rate it fairly.

This doesn't even deserve 1 star. DNF at Chapter 3. The writing is so amateurish that it's downright funny. A high school creative writing class could do better than this stuff. The beginning introduces too many characters with shadowy agendas; hard to keep track of who is doing what to whom. This is a convoluted espionage story. The plot is dumb: Mercer is given a weekend to get Zoe into bed to find out the info they need. (Oh sure, a weekend of hot sex and she will give up all the info they need.) If he fails, then Maddox will give her a go. Apparently this unit uses sex to get their targets to cooperate. "It's better than waterboarding," one character observes. He of course has betrayed her but our girl still feels that good ole electricity between them. She should have kicked his sorry ass to the curb; then there might be an interesting story. The story doesn't even deserve a review. It's laughably stupid. The best character is the parrot.

This book was good not great..it had definite potential but I couldn't really get on the boat with either the hero or the heroine. The writing was spot on but I didn't feel sucked in if you know what I mean. The story was full of action, suspense, lots of sexy times but I couldn't feel the romance between our couple just the lust and speaking of that the heroine was way too much of a wilting flower when he seduces her gah that totally irked me! He's so hot and sexy my panties are melting and fried all my dog darn braincells so what if he doesn't feel bad about seducing me undercover??? why woman why!!!!
