Since his mother became ill, fighting and being in the ring is the only thing that gives him peace of mind. The one thing he feels like he can control in life.
Hilary Vaughan is the kind of girl who isn’t sure what she wants…
Because she’s never had to want for anything. Coming from a rich family, all her wants and needs are quickly fulfilled.
Now she’s just looking for fun in the most typical place.
But one night everything changes…
Lance and Hilary meet in a bar, but before things heat up, she blurts out she’s a virgin. Taken by surprise he walks away, but he can’t seem to get her off his mind.
A few weeks pass when they meet again, and for the first time in his life he believes he’s finally found something else worth fighting for.
Ana Layne was born and raised in south Louisiana where she still resides with her family.
She owns more books than she will probably ever read, but can't resist a good story. When she's not reading or writing she loves to relax and enjoy life.
Lance is such a man-whore and he doesn't care. His mother is dying of cancer and he fights because he wants to help his father with the bills. It's also a way of him escaping the impending loss of his mum. He only wants one thing from women. Sex. One night he meets Hilary at a bar and takes her into the closet to have sex. But she reveals she's a virgin and Lance can't handle it. So he abandons her there and runs. Months later he can't get her out of his head. He wants her but he can't find her and when he does she shuts him down. Then his mother dies and his world falls apart. Luckily for him, he is surrounded by great friends and family who support him. When he gets the chance to see Hilary again, he finds out she'd with another guy. But things aren't always as they seem. This is a nice easy read and I enjoyed reading it mainly from Lance's perspective although we do get Hilary's as well. Although Lance's attitude towards women was off at the start, after his mother's death he did change. And I understand the way he handled finding out about Travis and Hilary. Another thing I loved was that it wasn't inst-love. If you enjoy new adult romance, then this is right up your street.
I love MMA stories. They are typically a very good mixture of intensity and alpha sexiness. Ive never read this author's work before so I don't know much about her. I did enjoy the story and the characters.
SPOILER ALERT: The synopsis pretty much explains what happens in the story between the H&H. Based on the fact that it took them most of the book to finally even get together in any way, it was difficult to stay engaged. The writing seemed a bit "young". And by that I mean they both still lived with their parents, one was in college, she was a virgin, etc. Thats not necessarily a criticism. It just didn't resonate very much with me because I'm a little older than that. My realities are very different than these two starry eyed kids who acted very immaturely in their behaviors throughout the story. Lance fooling around with girls in the closet, Hilary crying all the time and acting hot and cold and running back and forth between two men. And the worst thing for me was that the storyline based around her virginity being a major point and she ended up giving it to the other guy, not Lance. I was disappointed in that whole thing. Not to mention what transpires from her fooling around with the other guy.
I think this was a solid idea for a story and I would read more from this author. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could. But there were many aspects I just couldn't relate to. Good descriptions in the fight scenes and enjoyable sex scenes too. I just personally would have enjoyed the main characters being a bit older (not much) and more mature in how they interacted. There was a lot of pouting, crying and apologizing and texting and ignoring each other and not enough communication. Thats just a personal opinion. But good job Ana and I do plan on following more of your work.
Lance is a great MMA fighter and is climbing the ranks to become one of the best. He can have his pick of any woman he wants and he does so frequently. When he goes to the bar one night and the beautiful, shy girl catches his attention, he knows he has to have her. He feels as though he has met her before, but isn't sure where. When he finds out she is a virgin, he pushes her away and leaves. Hilary wants Lance just about as much as he wants her, but when he pushes her away she is done. She wants nothing more to do with him. When he tries to apologize, she is in no mood for it. However, he slowly breaks down her walls and she can't help but give him another chance. There's only one problem, she now has a controlling boyfriend. Even with this complication, Hilary and Lance still strive to be together. When Hilary's boyfriend becomes violent, will she finally escape him? Will Lance help her and keep her safe? Will they ever get their HEA? To find out you will need to read this little gem. I enjoyed this book as it was a quick and easy read. I enjoyed watching both of them grow and become wonderful people. When Lance steps up and takes on a responsibility no one expects him to, he stole my heart. He was such a wonderful person and I couldn't help but root for them to be together. If you are looking for a sweet, sexy read, this is the book for you. I enjoyed all the characters and I can't wait to see what this author has in store next.
Eehhhh more like 2.5. Just could not give it a three, not for lack of wanting to. The storyline is a good one and on par with several I've read recently in the genre. The problem is that this felt like the CliffNote version. I mean seriously, as I said in the comments, by pg 17 the main character had already been all over the place emotionally. The story moved way too fast barely touching on the issues that count. There are four major 'events' that barely received a page each and frankly that made it sssooooo unbelievable. Lance could have still come out the hero by addressing them with some realism rather than blowing on by...oh, make that five things. I forgot the bare mention of Hilary's behavior towards him following the closet incident. It was apparent he attempted to talk to her more than once but with the exception of what was briefly laid out in conversation, you had to fill in your own blanks. He deserved the riot act and we readers deserved to read about it as well. Basically the book moved way to fast dwelling on inconsequential things while ignoring the real 'meat'. It's a shame really.
Lance knew who Hilary was in high school because he protected her from those that bullied her. She never had a need for material things because everything she needed was always provided to her by her supportive, loving parents. Years passed, and they lose contact until they meet once again in a bar. But, instead of things looking up for them, things looked down and gloomy…
Hilary's attitude at times seemed a bit childish to me, and there were plenty of moments I wanted to knock some sense into her and make her see the big picture. One thing is for sure, Hilary made Lance work to get her attention a second time!
This was an interesting story in regards to letting misunderstandings, secrets and fear come between the people you love. There were a couple of loops thrown in there that really threw me off and, for a while, had me shaking my head in disbelief. ~ Kara, 3.5 stars
This is the first book I have read by Ana Layne. Lance is a fighter and a womanizer. He goes to a bar one night and meets, Hilary. She seems familiar but he can't place where he knows her. Once he takes her to a closet for some fast action, she tells him she is a virgin. He panics and leaves, thats when he realized why she looked familiar, they went to high school. Hilary was bullied in high school and Lance took up for her. Months later he hasn't seen her until she appears at the bar with Travis, who is a fighter also with a bad reputation. This is the second book in the series, but I didn't feel like I missed anything by not reading the first one. Hooked is a fast paced book. I would recommend it
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the second in the TKO series and ends in an HEA. Lance is an MMA fighter and man whore. He fights to pay his mother's medical bills, thus proving he is a man whore with heart. Hillary attempts to hook up with Lance, but her virginity sends Lance running. This story was confusing in the details. Apparently, Lance used to protect Hillary from bullies in high school. Neither person remembered the other the fateful non-hook up night at the bar. Hillary is described as beautiful. In high school she is described as a smart person who loved to read. Why was she bullied? Later in the story Lance wonders how she made the choices she did with the abuse she took in high school. What abuse? This plot line falls flat as nothing specific is remembered and Hillary's parents seem so supportive of her.
>Hillary and Lance go on a date that ends in Hillary going back to an abusive ex. The entire date is relayed and other than Lance saying one thing a bit insensitive, I don't know how she could accept abuse over one dumb sentence. Lance's friend, Reagan is used to make friends with Hillary later in the story, but actually seems to already know her in the beginning of the story. The abusive boyfriend, Travis is also an MMA fighter. In the beginning of the story Lance is said to have beaten him once. During their big fight scene at the end of the book, Lance is described as never having fought Travis before.
>Errors described above take the reader out of the story. The premise of this book is good, but the confusing content makes for a less enjoyable read. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 3 stars.
Hooked from the first page to the very last word!! Ana does it again!!
This is book 2 in the series. Could be read as a standalone but I suggest you read book one "TKO", as the characters are introduced in there.
Lance is a fighter. He's loyal, funny, hard working and a family man. He's never had that special someone by his side.
Hilary is in a relationship she doesn't want to be in. With help, she leaves.
What starts out as friendship, ends up being above and beyond!
This is not your typical fighter story. Sure, there is fighting involved, but oh so much more! I seriously wanted to throw my phone a few times and even cursed the author in my head. I loved the first one, but this one Def takes the cake!! Absolutely adore Ana and her writing!
You will be hooked through out this book. The characters are easily to fall for and you will go through the emotions from laughing out loud to crying.
This story goes with two very sensitive issues: domestic violence and cancer. For anyone having to deal with either issue, they can relate to this book. Ana writting style let's you see how this truly effects those characters and she nails the emotions of those characters.
Hilary is with a abusive man. She has feelings for another man.
Lance is a fighter and is in love with Hilary.
Can Hilary leave the abuse and find happiness with Lance?
Ana has written a beautiful story and I'm looking forward to reading more from her.
Lance is a fighter and a bit of man-whore, one night he picks up Hilary who someone he knew from high school, things don't goes as well as he hoped. Now he is hooked on her and wants her but now she doesn't want anything from him...
This was a good read I just had some problems with the storyline it just really moved to fast for me. The story for me just seemed really rushed. This book has a lot of back and forth between Hilary and Lance and Lance really ends up being a great stand up guy.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. The intensity behind Travis's emotions were really pivotal to the story to me. He felt everything so very deeply for the women in his life and always tried to do the right thing and the passion in which he did this showed through each and every time. This is what stood out for me and kept my interest cover to cover.
Hilary and Lance's story seems to be too far fetched to be believed. The middle of the story got really slow with very little going on. I rated this book a 3. I kept reading thinking it was going to get better.
Ana Payne did it again with the second installment in the Total Knock Out series Hooked. The storyline was spot on and had me hooked from beginning to end. The characters were well developed and had amazing chemistry. Looking forward to book three in this series and more by this author!!!
I love fighters. They're my kryptonite. My weakness. I love them in all colors and shapes. But this story was not that amazing. It was nice, but a little bit shallow and predictable at times. But I enjoyed it, nevertheless.
Lance has not only been tamed but grew up over night for Hillary. The love he shows this girl after everything she's put him through proves that when something is meant to be, it just is.
