Going the Distance

Life has been a roller coaster for Gabriel ‘The Saint’ Vega. From surviving a hellish childhood, to reuniting with his lost brother, only to hit the struggle of helping him battle his drug addiction. Boxing saved Gabriel’s life, and just when his career hits the fast track, he finally finds love with Salem; at least for a short time.

Social differences, obligations, and misguided good intentions tore Gabriel and Salem apart before they could ever really get started.

Will Gabriel be able to save his brother from the whirlpool of addiction that threatens to drag him under? Is Salem capable of breaking away from the ropes that bind her to doing what’s expected rather than what and whom she desires? Can Gabriel convince Salem that their mutual feelings are worth fighting for, and that together, they will be able to go the distance?

My review of Going the Distance by Christa Cervone reviewed by Ann Marie

Wow! What an amazing ride I just had. This storyline is so damn good! This is the second book you must read On the Ropes (the first book) before reading this.

You want to read about love, family, friendship and dealing with loss? This is your book.

This book has touched my heart. Touched my heart in a way that when I was reading it I sobbed. I sobbed because there are things that happen in this book that hit so close to home I couldn't take it but I couldn't stop either. Lately I have come across a few books where it just hits my heart this is one of them. I cried I laughed and I cried (sobbed) some more.

The story line between Salem and Gabriel I love. I love how much he loves her and how much she loves him. Although in the beginning of this book (book 2) we find them separated at first and then love prevails! They realize their love for each other and of course it’s not going to be easy for either one. But hang in there guys!

Jase and Gabriel, Jase is Gabriel's younger brother, it was just the two of them until they were separated when Jase was 5 years old and Gabriel was 10; a very sad part of this story is their story. Tragedy hits them; this is where I am going to stop. I don’t want to tell you exactly what happens to them but I can assure you; you will cry hell it may even hit home for some people. I love and hate this part.

Gabriel and Frankie we learn so much more about their relationship in this book. Frankie cares for Gabriel as if he was his own son, and hopefully someday he will be HIS son. That is all I have to say on that. You have to read this!

Well there are many more people/characters in this book but I don’t want to give away anymore then I already have. Please give this book a chance, I love it and I am adding this to my top favorites. I stayed up late reading this crying my eyes out and I loved every freaking word. Great book!  Nothing left unanswered either this author wrapped it all up for us in the end and I truly enjoyed this book.

Thank you Christa Cervone for this great story.

Go the Distance – a boxer goes the distance when he can fight through all the scheduled rounds.

For Gabriel “the Saint” Vega, his biggest fight is actually outside the ring, and it’s a battle through loss, jealousy, and personal demons that will last until he’s finally able to take control of his life and get the knock out that he’s been working towards for quite some time. When Book One, On the Ropes, concludes, Gabriel finds himself letting go of the girl who owns his heart because they come from two different worlds, and he can’t match up to what she’s already been offered. He feels like it’s the only choice to make even though it’s tearing him up inside. For a few months, he goes back to the lifestyle he’s been accustomed to which means fighting, alcohol, and women, but nothing helps to erase his feelings for Salem. Salem’s life isn’t much better. She’s simply existing in the world that’s been chosen for her. She knows it’s over between her and Blaine, but she doesn’t have the courage to make her own choices and stop allowing her life to be dictated by other people. Both Gabriel and Salem are struggling with their sense of self and the idea that they’re good enough to truly be loved by someone who puts them first, and this psychological battle goes on for quite some time in the text until both of them are finally ready to step up and fight for what they truly want, which is each other.

Another aspect of his life that Gabriel is fighting to protect is his relationship with his brother Jase. They’ve been out of each other’s lives for quite some time, and the personal demons that they both have because of that is a lot to overcome, but Gabriel wants to be there for Jase and help him get himself back on track…away from his addictions. This is probably one of Gabriel’s most important rounds to fight, and when tragedy strikes, it will be extremely difficult for Gabriel to come back from that knockout punch.

Through all of Gabriel’s struggles, though, he continues to battle with his head held high and his fists at the ready. Everything may not turn out how he wants them to, and he may be knocked down multiple times, but he gets back up and realizes that the title he can acquire outside of the ring means so much more than he ever realized.

Going the Distance is a great conclusion to Gabriel’s personal and professional journeys. I love that readers get Gabriel’s first person point of view because his voice is necessary to understand everything that’s going through his mind as big changes occur. It was difficult, at first, to switch between first person and third person for Salem’s parts, but I understand why Salem’s side is told through a narrator. She’s part of Gabriel’s story, so readers need to gain perspective from her side, but it’s still his story more so than hers. Both Gabriel and Salem grow as individuals in the text and learn to fight for what they want despite what others may say. I love that we learn more about Gabriel’s relationship with Frankie and what they truly mean to one another. Gabriel’s friends and family mean the world to him, and they willingly do anything they can to help him as well and that definitely comes through in the story. Gabriel’s losses in his life are significant, and a lesser person probably would have succumbed to the depression and grief, but he fights through it, knowing that the end result is worth it. The message to never give up despite the obstacles that come your way definitely comes through in Going the Distance.

Going the Distance is the second book in the in 'Down for the count' series by Christa Cervone. Things had not ended well for Gabriel and Selma, Selma had left, and you are unsure about what was going to happen for these two. The story picks up 3 months after it ended, although both are trying to move it very clear that they can't, and things are far from over between theses two.

It's not plain sailing for Gabriel and Salem, as they realizes out how much they really mean to each other. They have some tough choices to make, go through heartache, and at times have to fight for what they really want, which when it comes down to it is each other. There were times that I wanted to shake them both, but for the most part I was rooting for them.

I really like what Christa did the characters. Gabriel and Salem are a good together, you see them grow, especially Salem. You can feel the passion and the chemistry that they have for each other, which results in some scorching sexy scenes between them.

I enjoyed this book. It was an emotional read at times. I liked the pace of the story, and I felt that the flow was good once I got use to having Salem's POV in 3rd person instead of 1st like Gabriel was. I love being inside a character's head, as I feel you connect more to them when the story is told in 1st. However, that being said, it didn’t take away my enjoyment of the story.

Loved, loved the epilogue that Christa wrote as it was years instead of a few months into the future, and they are always a firm favorite of mine.

If you enjoyed the first book On the Ropes then, I would read this one, as it's a great ending to Gabriel, and Salem's story.

Favorites Quotes:

“When I’m with him, nothing else matter, and when I’m not…..He’s all I think about”

“I’m not sure what to feel: there’s a connection between us that I’ve never felt before. He makes me feel alive and wanted”

“Salem is my drug, and I’m completely addicted”

“My heart beats for you, my body aches for you, and my soul would die without you. You are important to my survival as the next breath I take”

Just keep loving me the way you do, Gabriel………..You’ll never have to worry about that, Say. I’ll never stop loving you.”

Yes!!  And "The Saint" is back!

***You should read "On The Ropes" 1st before reading this Review.***

I fell in love with him in book#1, but this book just made me love him even more with Saint.

Christa Cervone knows how to write!  She knows how to make us the reader connect with the characters she created.

The story picks up from where it left off in "On The Ropes", Saint & Salem are not talking to each other.  Saint is trying his hardest to forget Salem but he just can't.  He can't completely forget the only woman that has touched his heart.  He goes back to focusing on his boxing and trying to help his brother Jase stay clean.

Salem is realizing that she has made a mistake leaving Saint.  She is learning that she can't keep trying to be what everyone else wants her to be.  She misses the way she felt being around Saint, which is being herself & feeling loved.

This book is a very good mix of finding oneself, love, a bit of WTF drama & tragedy, hot sexy times (that had me needing a cold shower more than once afterwards), and learning that love comes in many different acts and forms from everyone.

I really enjoyed how we got to see Saint & Salem find themselves and each other.  When Saint felt, I felt.  He totally made me cry, laugh & totally want him hard!

" I love you, Salem Harris.  I love you more than I've ever loved anything in my lifetime.  My heart beats for you, my body aches for you, and my soul would die without you..." -Saint

Go get this series and fall in love with being in love!

REVIEW FOR BOTH BOOKS IN SERIES

After finishing On the Ropes and Going the Distance, I have written and re-written my review for them a few times and still feel like it is not quite right. So I decided I will tell you a little about what I liked and what didn't work so well for me, then you can make your own judgments from there.

First, I have to say the author provides two very well written and detailed stories. She has clearly done her research on the sport and passes that knowledge on to the reader in ways that provide you with a clear understanding of the terms and events related to boxing even if you are not a fan of the sport.

Gabriel aka The Saint is a man who had a rough upbringing to say the least. He and his younger brother Jase had a miserable childhood, lost both parents and were separated into 2 different foster homes at young ages. A few years later, Gabriel was lucky enough to cross paths with a judge who took an interest in his case and put him in touch with the man who would change his life. Frankie owns a fighter's gym and recognizes Gabriel's potential. He offers him a chance at a future in the sport if he follows his rules, and Gabriel latches on to the opportunity although his temper nearly makes him reconsider at times. And so The Saint is born. Having never seen lobe work out for anyone in his life, he is content with one night stands and no strings encounters.

Gabriel was a pretty likable guy to me overall. Sure he was bullheaded, argumentative, and uncouth at times, but underneath it all he was also a good guy at heart who looked after underprivileged kids at the gym and took care of those he cared about. As I got to know more about him and Jase, my heart broke for them with each new revelation. Frankie was tough on Gabriel, but he had his best interests in mind at all times and it was clear to anyone who looked close enough to see it.

When Gabriel gets his first glimpse of Salem, he is done for- pay no never mind that she was in relationship with the man who was looking to sponsor him (and a smarmy dirt bag to boot), he is determined that she will be his. And here is where we get to my struggle. There is no nice way to say it other than I straight up could not stand Salem. She was roughly the equivalent of fingernails on a chalkboard to me. From the very first time she appears, she comes across as a sneering spoiled little rich girl who looks down her nose at Gabriel. She has been raised in a wealthy family never wanting for anything and blindly following the plan for her life that was laid out for her by her parents- including possibly marrying a cheating jackass because their families expect it.

And here is my second problem- SPOILERS FOLLOW

In short, I really enjoyed most of the characters but the heroine was a real issue for me. It is difficult to finish reading a story when you wish one of the main characters would disappear into the sunset so that the other could find someone more worthy of them. I never felt the connection between Gabriel and Salem enough to want to root for them to find their HEA and only finished the second book because I was so far into it at that point that it felt like a disservice to the author to stop there. I always hate putting a book to the side as a DNF and it was really a testament to the author that I still kept going til the end in spite of my issues with the heroine. So I guess take this information as you will to make your own decision and grab a sample from Amazon before purchasing if you are on the fence.

Going the distance. (Down for the Count #2)

Going the Distance is the second book in the Down for the count series. If your havnt read the first book In the series, On the Ropes then I'd highly recommend you do before reading this book as otherwise your not really going to understand what has happened, and trust me, you've missed a lot.
After reading the first book I couldn't wait to start book 2. The book starts where it pretty much finished in book 1. Salem is struggling to leave her boyfriend Blaine, who is a cheating on her continuously. Blaine owns the gym "The Saint" works at and holds pretty much his whole future in his hands. It's been about 3 months since Gabe and Salem have last been together and both are finding it so hard to being apart. Both of them are miserable without each other.
When Gabe finally decides he is going to fight for Salem I was so happy. Gabe is such a great character. Watching him develop through the books I've found very interesting. He is not the same person he was at the start of book 1 and that's down to having Salem in his life and understanding love, even if he can't have her....yet. I felt so sorry for Gabe on so many occasions. He'd lived through hell growing up, all I wanted was for him to be happy and get the life he deserved. He's a sweet natured person underneath all the macho front. I loved seeing both sides of him throughout the book. Mostly though I just wanted to see him happy and if that meant giving up his career or that gym so he could be with Salem then I wanted him to do it. I wanted to see him fight for her and make it known he'd risk everything for her.
This review is hard to write without giving to much away. There's so many complications in the story between the characters, that you need to experience for yourself. Salem and Gabe obviously love each other very very much, but will they get their happy Ever After after everything they've been through?
I found this book a lot better than book 1. It wasn't as focussed on the boxing, but more about Salem and Gabe. The book has so much drama going on throughout and in some places I did get frustrated with Salem and Gabe. I wanted Salem to be stronger and follow her heart. I wanted to jump in the book and give her a good talking to and tell her what Blaine is doing to her. Blaine broke down Salems character gradually throughout both books with his disgusting ways and treatment towards her. He was a horrible character and I wanted him out of the picture, but it took a long time for Salem to get the strength to leave. Gabe gave her that strength and after you've seen Blaine ware her down, I was so nice watching Gabe build her back up again and fix her.
I found the story flowed at a great pace again. It also had a lot of drama, twists and turns. You couldn't guess if Gabe and Salem would get their happy ever after or not. I liked the author kept us guessing for so long. I loved the push and pull between the characters and reading the unknown. I loved the chemistry that Salem and Gabe had. They had a good connection in book 1, but in this book it intensified and was mind blowing to watch.
The author defintly knows how to write a great story, giving the reading little bits here and there, until you get the big moment. Boy I wasn't expecting what happened. I was amazing to read and I applaud the author for writing such a great book that kept you guessing all the way throughout and was never predictable. I was sat on the edge of my seating some parts of the book and other parts I was trying to hold back the tears.
I think the author finished the story brilliantly. All the questions and uncertainties I had at the end of book 1 were answered and I loved how the author finished the book.
I honestly feel this is one of those books that stays with you forever. The characters were flawless and I won't forget them ever. I'm glad I had the chance to read both of the books in the series. I've found a new author that I love and her writing style is brilliant and ll be on the look out for more in the future from Christa Cervone.
This is a must read series. 4 Stars

Review originally posted at Ramblings From This Chick

Going the Distance continues the Down for the Count series by Christa Cervone and picks up where On the Ropes left off. Make sure that you start with On the Ropes before reading this book, as Salem and Gabe's story starts there. I read this book right after I finished the first book, and I would really recommend reading these back to back if possible. There is a lot that happens in the first book that affects this book, and I think they are best read together. That being said, I had some issues with the first book and that was also the case here. Overall I liked the story, but it wasn't without some mixed feelings at times.

Gabriel "The Saint" Vega had a tough childhood and had finally reached what he had been working for. With his career taking off, he was thrown for a loop when he met Salem. Salem was his new sponsor's girlfriend, and although he tried to stay away he found himself unable to avoid her. But Salem and Gabe's relationship was over before it ever really began with everything standing in their way. Now he is focused on fighting and saving his brother as Jase attempts to stay clean. But when Gabe and Salem run into each other, they realize that the time and distance haven't changed their feelings for one another. Will they fight for one another, or will there be too many things standing in their way?

I hated Salem when we first met her in the first book, but about half way through she won me over. I figured at that point it was smooth sailing as far as her being a likable character. Apparently I figured wrong, because I spent pretty much the first half of this book hating her as well. I couldn't believe that we were back in the same situation, and honestly I was fed up. I didn't understand her reasoning for not breaking up with her cheating sleazebag of a boyfriend Blaine, and I didn't like what she was doing to Gabriel. Gabe had more than enough to deal with, and his feelings for Salem were true and unwavering. I hated watching him stick around because he loved her, all the while having to watch her repeatedly with Blaine. Gabe on the other hand I couldn't have loved more! He was sweet and caring, and even more of a good guy than he was before. He was great with his brother and he was determined to be there for Salem no matter what she put him through. I really felt like he deserved better, but I couldn't help but admire his devotion to Salem.

Overall, I thought that this was a good story even though I did have issues with it over the course of both books. Salem was one of my biggest problems, and her inability to end a toxic relationship that was long overdue. I also recommend that if you are not a fan of cheating that you probably don't read this series. There was cheating in both books, and I really felt like it was unnecessary. I didn't like it, and that was part of why I felt like Gabe deserved better than what he was getting. I will say that I liked how this book ended though, and I especially enjoyed the epilogue. It was great to see them years later, and I really loved everything that happened with Frankie and Gabe. He had always been a father to Gabe, and the way things went for those two was especially sweet. I think if you like sexy fighter stories that this is one that you might want to give a shot. It was enjoyable besides the few criticisms I had, and Gabe alone is worth the read.

I couldn't wait for this story. Christa provided much more than the typical fighter love story. We wanted to know if Gabriel & Salem could make things work? How is Jase doing? What is going on with Frankie and the gym? We wanted answers after the first book!

We meet back up with Salem and Gabriel 3 months later. Blaine and Gabriel are cordial, and Blaine, well he is still the self righteous jerk. LOL However, Salem, is growing more and more. I love that yes, in the first book she needed to grow & Christa was letting her do just that, so if you weren't big on her with the first book, I really think you will love her by the end of this series! "I need to make a change, do something for myself, and forget about pleasing my parents or Blaine. I need to live my life for me."

Gabriel & Jase seem to be happy and making things work by living together. Gabriel will always feel responsible for Jase, it's who he is, he loves so hard & I think he wishes he could have saved Jase as a little boy. Christa gave us such powerful memories of Gabriel and Jase when they were little, I think she wanted us to feel the loss of innocence for them, the loss of a childhood, that many of us are fortunate and are gifted to have in life. Gabriel feels the loss of opportunity with his brother and wants to make up for it.

When Gabriel gets into a horrible accident, that's when Salem realized she can't be with out Gabriel anymore. Salem proves to be the FIGHTER in this story. She meets him in the hospital and makes Gabriel realize that sometimes he needs to be looked after.

We are introduced a bit more to Kitten. Who is FIERCE. I loved her, she is witty, strong, sexy, and she just has it. I want to know all about her. She was a friend not only to Gabriel, but to Salem too. I love when we get to witness a strong confident girl help a fellow girl out, instead of trying to wreck a relationship and steal her man lol

Secrets are revealed and there are PLENTY in this story. There are secrets all around Gabriel & Salem's family, Frankie & the gym, but Salem and Gabriel push through it all.

Salem suffers through a nightmare, a woman's worst fear, and she fights with every bit of strength she has (again love this writing about her) Gabriel is there by her side, holding her, loving her, and helps Salem realize that she is beautiful and to be desired. Salem needs to let go of the abuse Blaine put her through, and let go of her insecurities that Blaine's infidelities plagued her mind with.

And just like the first book Christa offers the steam with a HOT TUB scene. It made me want to go to the nearest home depot and invest in a hot tub. " Have you ever used these jets for anything besides massaging your back?"

Each time life threw them a curve ball (& trust me it does), Salem and Gabriel came out on top. They declare their love for one another, and share a beautiful scene together. Gabriel comes face to face with his past and the reason why his life was never the same again, and the reason why Jase's life couldn't move on.

For each loss there was a gain in this story. You will not be disappointed. Christa wrote an emotional and beautiful epilogue that ties things up perfectly. We get to see how they all evolved and how far they have come in life. You will love this well written conclusion for a couple who truly know what it is to fight for the ones they love. (xo Marla)

Twist of Fate was a great read! I would give it a solid 4 stars. This is a book about a one night stand that will change the lives of both the characters in a blink of an eye. It does have an HEA which I am forever thankful for because we all know how much I love cliffys :). It is told in dual POV's and is a standalone novel.

Silas and Lilly meet at an airport when they both are waiting for there flight. There is an instant spark and neither one knows how to handle it. When there flight gets delayed they find themselves going to a hotel and having a crazy one-night-stand. They part not knowing each others last names so no chance of them ever meeting again.... but of course with a Twist Of Fate there lives will collide 3 years later when Silas's girlfriend goes to a book signing that he so happens to tag along with and to his surprise the author is Lilly. Lilly is totally stunned and they both act like they don't know each other, but is this her chance to finally reconnect with someone that changed her life in a huge way and he doesn't even know about it? Or is it better to keep her secret and not make it any harder on her life than it has been for the past 3 years... But little does Lilly know Silas has thought about her constantly and wants to know her more even though he doesn't know her secret. When the secret is revealed can they move on from one another or is the pull they had the first time they met to strong. Can Silas stay with his current girlfriend or will he give up his safe and happy relationship to try with Lilly? Or will Fate rear its ugly head again and twist there lives even more??

This book will warm your heart in so many ways , and then you will get quite a few twists that will sadden your heart as well. This is the first book I have read by this author but I look forward to much more and hopefully soon! Thanks for a great read Jaime Whitley!

Here are some lines from the book that I found note worthy:

Silas:
"I'm ok with whatever you're okay with. This doesn't have to happen if you don't want it to. No pressure. Like I said, I will happily take the couch. I'm hoping you don't make me take the couch though Lilly, because there is something about you that makes me want to know all of you. I want to explore every inch of your body and see what makes you quiver."

Lilly:
I felt such a deep connection with him, one I never felt before with anyone. Our bodies moved in perfect sync together, like we've done this everyday for the last five years. The way my body ignited with every single touch of his made it feel like our souls were connecting. I want to lean over and give him a proper wakening after last night, but I refrain, reminding myself that even though I had the best sex of my life last night, we agreed on a one-night-stand.

ON THE ROPES and GOING THE DISTANCE
(Down for the Count Series) by Christa Cervone

5 out of 5 Star for each read
Review by WTRBlog

On the Ropes (book 1)
Going the Distance (book 2)
By Christa Cervone

You just read book one then two in this series as they do go in sequence.
I am reviewing these two reads together since I was able to read them back to back. I love this series and feel fortunate to have been given this chance to read Ms. Cevone's work for the first time. This story is captivating and is rich in development that will keep you very intrigued from beginning to end. Gabriel 'the Saint' Vega's life started tough for a young boy and made him a strong young man with dreams and hope. He is the son of a murderer, which forced him and his younger brother, Jace, to be separated and lost as part of the foster system. Lucky for Saint, he was saved by a mentor and or father figure, Frankie, who is owner of a beat up boxing gym that runs a program for inner city kids. Now as a full time fighter, Saint helps his trainer Frankie with the kids program and continues to train with the hopes of going Pro in his career. The gym has taken a toll with lacks of funding and age that Frankie is scrambling to keep the run down gym up and going. Lucky for them, they found a sponsor, Blaine, the owner of a brand new gym near by that will help Saint with his boxing career. He will be allowed to train in their new facility and be supplied with new gear if he agrees to be the face to help promote sales at TKO. The new gym is not the only reason that Saint want in the deal but also he became struck with the beauty that was escorting Blaine when he approached Frankie and Saint at the old gym. He was taken by Salem's beauty the first time he met her and now she has become his drug that stimulates his heart with every beat. The only thing is, she is Blaine's and she is from the up side of town were money is plenty! Turns out that Blaine is a cheat and has been hiding it from Salem for years. The secret has just been let out when the boys from the gym get invited out by Blaine to celebrate the merger and find themselves at a high end club with a no tell policy. Blaine is not the honest and loyal boyfriend that Salem has been led on to believe. With this knowledge, Saint feels more inclined to pursue Salem and win her heart even though she may never give him the time of day! Will Saint win Salem? Will Salem ever leave Blaine even though it has been their, well really their families plan, that they would be a couple now and for ever? What will happen to the gym? Does Saint ever see his brother Jace again and are the rumors true that he has heard his brother is a drug junkie? This read has it all and is a must read!!!

This is the second book in the series and I have to say it was every bit as good as the first.
It was bursting at the seams with everything that you could possibly want.
If angst, pain and relationship is what you are looking for then this series is the one for you.
Emotionally I found the story challenging, it made me stare in disbelief at my kindle and had me reaching for tissues on so many occasions, difficult situations beautifully written with total control and accuracy. Simply put the handling of some delicate subject matter was astonishing.
Gabriel and Salem start this book going through a tough time but despite the time they were apart, I had no doubt that they would make it. The love between them was just exquisite.
We learn more about the relationship between Gabriel and Jase, two brothers that have experienced more than they should have in their few short years. Life has treated them to the worst that it has to offer.
It was heart breaking to read what they had been through but it gives their story perspective and that is a major strength of the whole book, its perspective. It exudes poignancy and encourages empathy and those are emotions that we should all find comfort in being able to display.
The writing style was absolutely to my liking, it gave me the opportunity to see things from Gabriel’s point of view which is what this book is all about, as I said previously- this is Gabriel’s story, the tale of his life, his loves and his fight for his future.
I had one tiny niggle though, it was the need to have Salem’s story told in a mix of both 1st and 3rd person, I found that it made the whole experience a little difficult to get a handle on as the story progressed but I have to say that as awkward as it was at times I eventually got why the author had elected to use this tactic as it actually began to make sense, it just sometimes forced me to apply a little too much consideration to content the text while reading.
The peripheral characters were central to the storyline much of the time and not just filler, I especially liked Frankie and the relationship that he had with Gabriel.
This man was everything a guy could want from someone that was not only his mentor, but his saving grace, his reason for putting one foot in front of each other for so long and for being the rounded, contributing individual that Gabriel had become, he owes Frankie his life but Frankie had given both his time and love freely for a boy that he considered his son.
I have to say that the book and the series were fabulously written and ones that I will probably return to again, they were both exemplary works that deserve to be considered as first class.

After the ending of Book 1 I was happy to have book 2 pick up in that spot. I still hate what is happening but I am just happy it did not fast forward years !! I love Gabriel , I have since the start. I mean he is a typical manwhore but that is just because he had not found anything worth fighting for and being true to. He now comes to realize nothing is going to get Salem out of his head. Salem is actually my enemy in this series. I know she is in a crappy position with the whole family/money & power thing but damn once she finds out that Blaine actually is the snake everyone thinks he is I want to just smack her for not taking off.

Not much actual boxing in this story but more so inner fighting and fighting for love. Which I have to admit I like better !! We have Jase fighting to stay sober , Frankie fighting for his business , Gabriel fighting for Salem and Salem fighting to free herself from Blaine and her parents.

This story is a struggle to read because there is so much back and forth , nothing can be cut and dry. Gabriel is so much more than just a hot as sin fighter. He has so much raw emotion in him about his past , his family and Salem. It may take him some time but he does realize things that he never thought he would feel before. Sadly we see things being thrown in his face over and over and it is painful to read his reactions to it all. One final thing pushes both Gabriel and Salem over the edge and we finally may get that HEA !! Of course there may be one more huge twist thrown in to make us squirm. As much as Salem annoyed me I loved reading about her discovering herself and finding the confidence to go for what she wants in love. It was painful to read of such a strong beautiful woman being so down on herself. Gabriel helped her come out of that shell and it was a beautiful thing to read , and super hot I may add !!

Although there is more to the story than Salem and Gabriel's journey I do not want to spoil it. Frankie really does have his own story to tell and my feelings for him went back and forth but damn he is such a great guy. Gabriel does have a few great friends and their concern for him is heartwarming. Gabriel & Jase have a horrible past which we knew of but their present was full of healing and reconnection , I was so happy they had that chance. It is hard to write a review when you are excited about the story and where it went and where it could go further. So go read for yourself !!
I can entice you just a bit...

This is the second installment in the Down for the Count Series by Christa Cervone. It continues 3 months after the first installment On the Ropes.

Knowing he can't have the one woman that could change is womanizing ways, Saint is trying to get her off his mind and move on from his short time with Salem by throwing himself back into his work and training.

"She made me believe there was something between us, that she had feelings for me. She made me feel things I never knew existed, yet she didn't feel the same way"

Salem is torn between what her head and heart want, and what is expected of her by her family. Her life has been pretty much mapped out for her: Become a lawyer, get married, have children. With a boyfriend that her family likes (they don't know the extent of his disrespect towards her), she will have to make a decision to risk everything to be with the man that has become her everything.

"It all has to do with her. It's all about how she's managed to take over my brain, and consumes every thought I have"

This book is huge for Gabriel - He has to deal with a lot of unresolved issues regarding his past and present. He can't stop thinking about Salem, and doesn't feel like he deserves her - but will fight for her all the same. He has also taken on the responsibility of helping keep his brother Jase (who is recently battling his drug addiction) clean. Gabriel is put through a great deal, and it shows what a strong person and a great man that he really is.

"I wonder if she can hear my thunderous heart, and if she realizes it only beats for her"

I love the secondary characters in this book just as much. Jocelyn, is protective, honest, hilarious and her personality is so far from boring. Jase is so vulnerable, sincere and cares for his brothers welfare deeply. The bond they have after being separated for so long is endearing. Jimmy and Stephannie are great and I enjoyed the brotherly connection that Jimmy shares with Gabriel. Then there's Frankie, how can you NOT love Gabriel's Guardian Angel. The father that Saint always wanted. He is always looking out for him, and would do anything for him in a heartbeat, no questions asked.

Christa did an amazing job with the series and the characters and bringing out reactions towards them. I really wanted to throat punch Blaine and wipe that smug smile off his face, and I couldn't help swooning over the boxing hotties! She completes the story and even though I felt it was ended perfectly, I still want more. What a great read!

Total 5 Stars =)

WOW! What an exciting series of books! I read the first one, On The Ropes, in order to do this blog tour for Going The Distance and I’m in love with this author.

Gabriel (“Saint”) is a major player. He knows everyone, wants to be a pro boxer, and loves his women. Well he loves them for a night or two. Like I said….major player. That is until he meets/sees….

Salem is bombshell model beautiful. She comes into the gym where Saint is training with her boyfriend, Blaine. Blaine wants to sponsor The Saint in the ring and make him the face of his new gym. The problem is that Saint is fine right where he is and after meeting him and his girlfriend…..he wants what Blaine has….Salem.

Salem is annoyed and very turned on by the way Saint looks at her but she’d never let him have the satisfaction of knowing he gets to her. She treats him like a bitch but he just takes it - anything to be close to her. After agreeing to a business relationship with Blaine he soon figures out that Blaine is a world class asshole to Salem. Cheating on her constantly and talking down to her. It’s all Saint can do not to call him on it.

Will Salem continue to push Saint away? How long will she deal with Blaine’s comments and worse - his temper?

Saint wants Salem like he’s never wanted anything. He only has a couple of people he would consider family and he’s always been fine with that. Until Salem. She is under his skin and inside his head. What happens when get gets into his heart? Will she choose the money and the safe life her parents want for her and have pushed her to accomplish? Or will she choose to stand on her own two feet and go for everlasting love?

The story is much more than just Saint & Salem. There’s fights and family drama, proposals and break ups, a dead beat dad and a father figure ohhhhh and a addict that will make you need some tissues.

I LOVED this series and this book is even better than the first one - if that’s possible. One of the reasons is the Epilogue. It’s always my favorite part. However, I especially love them when they are a few years down the road. Amazing!! It made the whole book for me by having closure. It’s not if it’s a HEA (although I do like those) but it’s about the story not abruptly ending. I think I might get too invested in the story! LOL Don’t get excited…..I’m not going to tell you if there is a HEA but I will just say that the story has closure.

Definitely highly recommend.

4.5 out of 5 stars

I loved Saint (Gabriel) and Salem in On the Ropes, but they really stole my heart in Going the Distance. I felt like their struggles really made their successes that much sweeter. They came from two very different backgrounds, but they're still finding themselves drawn to each other with such force that they can't stay away.

I hated Blaine in the first book, but in this book I found myself loathing him. He really was such an a-hole that I could hardly stand to read his name. Salem was crazy for being with him and the fact that Frankie and Saint agreed to help him out made me feel like they were selling out.

Jase, Jimmy, Steph, Frankie and Kitten all make significant returns in Going the Distance. Jimmy and Steph has the kind of relationship that I think everyone wishes for their best friends. Jase holds strong for his big brother. He finds a steady relationship with Gabriel that they haven't had since they were young kids because of circumstances beyond their control.

The story arc in this book goes up and down so many times that I found myself without any fingernails by the time I was done. I was constantly biting my nails hoping things were going to go the way I wanted them to.

Some of my favorite quotes from Saint came when he was trying to express his feelings to Salem. Since he doesn't have any previous relationships in his life (not even with any family members), he struggled with opening up to her, but when he would, he would open up 100%.

"I love you, Salem Harris. I love you more than I'e ever loved anything in my lifetime. My heart beats for you, my body aches for you, and my soul would die without you. You are as important to my survival as the next breath I take. You're the one, Salem, you...are...my one."

Sain'ts love for his brother is so incredibly heartfelt that I find myself withing I had a big brother like Saint. And he has a deep love for Jimmy and Steph that he goes out of his way to make sure they're happy even when he wasn't. The relationship between Frankie and Saint makes my heart ache. They fight like crazy, but it's evident the love runs deep.

Ms. Cervone does a wondeful job of creating characters that I want to learn more about and find their way to happiness. The boxing metaphor chapter headings really made me better understand what she wanted me to get out of the chapter as a reader and I think eeryone should really read these books and enjoy them as much as I did.

Three months after Salem walked away. Gabriel ‘The Saint’ Vega is slowly putting his heart back together. He is also training again. Aside from his love life, things are going well for him. His brother, Jase is at his side and doing better with his handling his addiction. His career is on the fast track and things are finally falling into place.
Three months ago Salem walked away from the man she truly loved and from a man who treated her the way she deserved to be treated. Her life already mapped out for her, her marriage practically arranged. Constantly asking herself why she ran, she knows and it is because of her family.
“Says who, your parents and your friends? Are you going to let stereo types dictate your life, tell you who you can and can’t be with? Sweetheart, I hate to say this but, if you walk away from him, someday you’ll regret it. You’re going to wake up one morning and realize how unhappy you are and wonder what could’ve been.”
Things are going for Gabriel and you know how life can be. Just when you think you are good, life likes to punch you in the gut. For Gabe, his world comes crashing down.
“You think you can say what you want to me, put me down, call me names and then hug me and make it all better? I’ve been dealing with that for years. I’m not a door mat, Gabriel. All I want you to do is take me home, and I don’t ever want to see or hear from you again.”
Salem finally finds the strength to stand up for what she wants out of life. Together they both go down a road that tests their strength, their faith and their new found love for each other.
“Just keep loving me the way you do, Gabriel.”
“You’ll never have to worry about that, Say. I’ll never stop loving you.”

Salem definitely redeems herself in this book. She is smart, beautiful but gives into others. I was happy to see her get the strength she has always had but for her to finally act on it.
Gabriel grew so much in this one. Life has always knocked him down but he fought and continued to fight to get to the top.
I feel in love with Kitten’s character. She is sassy, knows what she wants but underneath her act- she ends up being a great friend.
My favorite was the epilogue. Christa has a KO with this epilogue. I LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!.
I enjoyed Gabriel and Salem’s journey. Christa did a fantastic job with the characters and the emotions. These books are a must read!

I was give this ARC in return for my honest review. Okay now with that said, can
I say "Praise God" for this book. I became a fan of these two characters and was
so glad this second book starts off right where the first book left off. Again
this book is mainly written in the male POV, with snippets of female POV every
now and then.

The story opens back up to the back and forth relationship between Gabriel and
Salem. After their last steamy encounter each realize that being apart is for
the best. Fast forward three months and both characters are miserable. The only
thing that seems to be thriving is Gabriel's relationship with brother Jase.
Jase is clean, living with Gabriel and even working. However when not consumed
with Jase, Gabriel's mind is taken over by Salem. How she is still with her
miserable boyfriend and is avoiding him.

But avoidance is the only thing Salem can do in order to not fall any further in
love with Gabriel. She is miserable with Blaine but he is who she is expected to
be with. Little did she know after random night when Gabriel made the effort to
sneak to her condo and want to see her, her life would soon change. With Gabriel
in the hospital, Salem sees who she wants to be with. But Blaine is still there.
She soon chickens out and decides to keep her and Gabriel's relationship a
secret from everyone. This secret soon causes major problems for both Gabriel
and Salem. It takes announcements to be made, crimes to be committed and
declarations of love made in order for Salem to see where and who she want to be
with.
With all this going on Gabriel is under so much pressure. I am seriously
surprise that our fighter does crack. But in true fighter fashion, Gabriel acts
like a true champion and pushes through. At times my heart hurt for Gabriel. All
he wanted was to be a winner, someone who isn't the poor kid from the broken
home. Well in the end he actually gets it, but not all is roses and sunshine. He
and Salem go on a roller coaster ride of emotions and both brace each other for
the ups and downs. But in the end they actually do get their happily ever after.

I was so glad I was given this book to read. Christa has a new fan and I will
definitely check out her other books.

Going the Distance by Christa Cervone: Review

*** Blogger Note: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.***

Going the Distance is a continuation of Gabriel and Salem’s story.

Three months after Salem walked away, Gabriel ‘The Saint’ Vega is back to his old self, training at Frankie’s gym, taking care of the kids in the before and after school program. He is on the road to finally having his chance at a title shot.

But he can’t get Salem out of his head. Three months have gone by and his mind and body still doesn’t have any plans on letting her walk away. He runs into her at the gym her boyfriend owns, where Gabriel is now training with Frankie, not expecting to see her there. All their feels come rushing right back… He knows then and there that this is the women he will love and marry.

True love always prevails!

As she tries to run from him, trying to do what her parents expect of her, she can no longer hide her feelings for Gabriel. Their relationship hits many potholes, taking you on a rollercoaster ride full of emotions. But with many bumps to hurdle, they find their way together.

This book will give you all the hurts and feels… many twist and turns, love and loss, family and friendships lost. It will make you laugh, cry and no doubt will have your jaw hitting the floor more than once.

Their is no doubt about the chemistry these two characters share. It is undeniable!

** Warning: The sex is hot! Well written and will have any women squeezing her legs together. May cause lots of blushing while reading in public! But, that’s what makes it so hot! **

I have had so much fun reviewing these books this past month! I love Christa’s writing! She has that magic! Her words are very heartfelt and sometimes bittersweet but there is no doubt in the magic of grabbing you right from the first page!

Watching these books skyrocket to the top of the Amazon Charts has been fun! Being a native Western Mass Girl like myself, I feel so much pride! Christa no doubt has a big future ahead of her!

If you have not read these books yet, shame on you! Christa Cervone knows how to write a story that will have you tapping out in submission!

4 amazing Night Owls!

** DEBBIE'S 4.5 STAR REVIEW **

Going the Distance is the second book in the series. It picks up where the first book left off. Gabriel “The Saint” Vega and Salem have a connection and want to be together. The only thing that still stands in there way is her two timing boyfriend who she can’t seem to get the courage to leave. It is complicated, because Blaine owns the gym that Gabe works at and pretty much holds the cards to Gabe’s boxing future.

“Dude, you’re livin’ in a fuckin ‘ dream world if you think she’s gonna leave all this money for our shit-ass apartment and your life as a penniless boxer.”

The banter between Both Gabe and Salem fantastic and the chemistry between them was off the charts Hot!!!! Be prepared for some panty melting parts!!!!

“Has he gone down on you yet? Made your legs quiver and your pussy ache for more?” I growl into her ear.”

“I’m filled with love and pride. I kiss my girl and all is right in my world."

So many things I loved about this book. You felt the connection between the two and also understood why it wasn’t so easy for them to say, “screw it” and just be together. The book flowed beautifully and had me sitting at the edge of my seat wondering if things were ever going to look up for Gabe. Loved all the secondary characters and the author threw a couple of plot twists that had my stomach in knots. The author did a fantastic job wrapping this story up and I felt nothing was left unfinished. She pulled everything together beautifully. This one will pull you in and have your glued to your reading device until the very end.

“I’d go the distance for them, and I know, without a doubt, that they’d do the same for me.”

5 SIZZLING STARS!

You must read book one before reading this book as this is the second in a series so I am going to try to keep this review as spoiler free as possible.

I loved this book. I am a huge fan of Christa Cervone so when I saw she had a new series coming out with fighters, I just knew it was going to be amazing and she did not disappoint. This book has twists, turns, love, loss, grief, and emotion. This book deals with family, friendships, love, and loss. I laughed. I cried. I smiled. I shouted yes. And I definitely wanted to smack Gabriel and Salem's heads at times.

This is the continuation of Gabriel and Salem's story. It's been three months since Salem walked away. Both are left broken hearted. But what is meant to be is meant to be. They have along road ahead of them full of ups and downs, but love always prevails. Will Gabriel and Salem find a way back to each other? Will their love conquer all? Will they be able to stay together and remain strong on the twisty road to their HEA?

This was a great continuation of their story. I loved Saint. I loved Salem. Their chemistry is undeniable. Their love is undeniable. I loved how much they loved each other and were so in the end. They faced so much but came out stronger in the end. And that ending.... perfect!

And I must say that cover and the cover on book one, delicious!

And the best part is that of your questions will be answered. I cant want to see what this author has in store for us in the future.

Read this series. One click today. You won't be disappointed if you do.

AMAZING SERIES.

We met the main characters and got a glimpse of their life in On The Ropes. Going The Distance is the sequel to that book and "meat" of the series.

Gabriel "Saint" Vega has fallen in love with the one woman he can never have, Salem Harris. Not only is she out of his league and in a different social class, she is also involved in a very serious relationship.

After a one night mistake, Gabriel vows to stay away from Salem. His desire for her is too strong to abstain. As these two finally start letting down their guard and getting to know one another all kinds of angst will rear it's ugly head in their lives.

There is the douche bag boyfriend, the junkie brother, the socially correct family, the financially troubled gym owner & trainer, the fighting career, and life in general standing in their way. Can Gabriel and Salem make it through all the obstacles in their way. Can their love survive the storm?

This book was the "meat" of Gabriel and Salem's story. It was a very emotional, heart wrenching book that took me by complete surprise. My opinion on Salem's personality drastically changed. She showed her true personality and true strengths in this book. Gabriel "Saint" Vega proved he was a fighter outside of the ring. He fought for those he loved.

I highly recommend the Down For The Count Series by Christa Cervone. It will not disappoint.

This is the second book in Christa Cervone’s Down for the Count series. Although it could be read as a stand-alone, I would suggest reading the first book “On the Ropes”. It will help you better appreciate how far these characters have come. The theme in both books was never to judge a book by its cover. Gabriel “the Saint” Vega and Salem Harris came from two different worlds. In the beginning Salem only saw Gabriel as a rough and tumble fighter from the streets and Gabriel saw Salem as a rich snotty girl from the rich side of town. It wasn’t until they got to know each other that those stereotypes where cast aside. The second book follows the still developing relationship between Gabriel and Salem and their battle to be together.

These two where fighters through and through, when life kept trying to knock them down and tear them apart they fought for their happily ever after. It was in the way they handled theses struggles that we saw their characters grow. This was the enjoyable part of the book, for me. I liked seeing how the characters grew and matured not only as individuals but also as a couple. Along with the character development, this book also had lots of twists and turns that kept me reading and on my toes. Just when I thought all the drama was over, something new would come along. I didn’t relax until final page turn. I was afraid that something new would come along and take away their happiness.

All in all, I thought this book and the series was a real entertaining read. Hard to put down…heck you won’t want to put it down until you’ve turned the last page.

This is a great continuation off of the first book. Gabriel's biggest fight isn't inside of the ring it's outside. He has tried to keep Salem off of his mind but it didn't work. Salem likes that Gabriel makes her feel so wanted and like she was the woman in the world. Gabriel sees Salem while he is getting ready to go into the sauna at TKO, he goes after Salem but before they could talk she backed out and left. He was so upset, he went after her but he ended up going to see Kitten. Kitten talks some sense into Gabriel to get him to go talk to Salem. So he went to her condo but she wouldn't answer his text messages so he did anything he could to get her to come down and talk to him.
Salem is a law student, she has been cheated on and her mother is the chief of surgery. Has feelings for Gabriel but she knows that he wouldn't fit into her world and she wouldn't fit into his. Gabriel has feelings for Salem, he hates Blaine. He is a fighter and he pushed Salem away. Jason is Gabriel's younger brother, he is getting help for his addiction. Jocey is Salem's friend and roommate, she tells it how it is and she hates Blaine. Jimmy is newly engaged, friends with Gabriel, fighter. Frankie is Gabriel's trainer. Dr. Nelson is Salem's mother. Blaine is a serial cheater, Gabriel's father.
This book is amazing! You have to read the first book on the Ropes before you read this one. It's a very well written story, the characters are very well developed. This is one story that I will be able to read again and again. Christa Cervone knows how to draw someone into the story. I look forward to reading more books by Christa Cervone. If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would.

I was given a ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Going the Distance we see a growth in these characters and I am so
very proud of them and Christa. We are taken on a roller coaster of
emotions and highs and lows and some things we never expected would
happen. Christa sure knows how deliver a emotionally captivating whirlwind romance story and I loved every second. Could not put it down.

Gabriel goes through a lot mentally in this book and Salem is there
for him, these two have such touching and amusing moments. Salem also
goes through a lot physically, mentally and emotionally and Gabriel is
always there for her and I love them both to pieces and love them separately for many differen`t reasons. Amazing book period.

When shit goes down with Blaine, it just shows what a slimeball he
truly is. You feel bad for him for a second then realize why you
dislike him so. The entire time I was rooting for Gabriel to kick his a$$. Really disliked the douche. But he was the spice to the story. I loved Gabriel finally telling and giving him what he
deserved.
There are sad moments, and many happy moments, but everything happens for a reason
and there is a deep message in this book and it speaks to you in ways you never thought possible. And the characters I adore and I think Christa captures that impeccably. It was a perfect ending to a perfect story. You must read to see how Gabriel and Salem`s story ends.

“I wanna win it for you, Say. To prove to you, that I’m a champion and
that I’m good enough for you.”

“Unless you’re showing me Blaine’s dead body, I’m not interested,”

This is Book 2, On The Ropes is Book 1

What can I say about Gabriel "The Saint" Vega……...
1. Hot Guy
2. Hot Fighter Guy
3. Sexy Fighter Guy
4. Sweet Fighter Guy

I LOVED this book, I hadn't heard of Christa Cervone before this. I read On the Ropes first, WHICH IS A MUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have become addicted/obsessed to all fighter books and Going the Distance didn't disappoint. We have all the major characters from OTR……

Gabriel "The Saint"
Jason- Gabriel's brother
Salem- Dating Blaine ( The Douche) & Owner of TKO gym & Gabriel- Say what?????
Jocelyn- Salem's BFF
Jimmy- Gabriel's BFF
Stephanie- Jimmy's Fiance
Frankie- Owner of gym/Gabriel's trainer for years

It's hard to write too much and NOT give any spoilers. I would hate to ruin this wonderful story for anyone else.

This is a story of the struggles that Gabriel has to overcome between his brother Jason & his demons, worried for Frankie & the gym. His love of fighting, for him this is his livelihood. Wanting the girl he can't have.

And then there is Salem, who Gabriel doesn't feel he deserves but doesn't feel Blaine does either. Gabriel doesn't feel he can love someone that is until he meets Salem. Salem is a beautiful, smart, sexy & funny woman that feels obligated to be with Blaine. Gabriel helps her sees things differently including her career choice in the legal field. Again, reading On the Ropes first is a must. What a wonderful story of finding love, friendship, lost family, new family and a wonderful HEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to read more books by Christa!!!!!!!

Going the Distance by Christa Cervone is the second book in her Down for the Count series that follows the fighter Gabriel “The Saint” Vega. At the end of the first book, Gabriel had hooked up with his friends’ girl Salem for a night of love and passion but stupidly, he decided that they are not good together and in a moment of weakness, cut her loose. Since that fateful night, he can only think about Salem but decides to stick to his guns and stay away from her. Fast forward, 3 months later and the two are still apart and completely miserable. Each has forged a new path in life, trying to put the past behind them but fate has decided to give them one last try ..... that is if Gabriel doesn’t screw it up.

Even though this is the second book in the series, I think it’s safe to say that it’s probably the end of Salem and Gabriel’s tale. I don’t want to give too much away but yes, they do have a HEA and there are some major bumps in the road as well as a major character’s death, so bring your tissues cuz it’s a tear jerker.

For everything that Gabriel has gone through in his life and screwed up, it’s the love of a good woman or should I say, the right woman, that finally sets him on the right path and that family is not always about blood but whom your heart chooses to unite with.

All in all, I loved how their story ends up. I highly recommend this series but I also recommend that you read the first book, On The Ropes, first. You’ll definitely appreciate the struggles and triumphs that both of the main characters go through to be together and fight for their HEA.

An Awesome Follow-up!
This book was really great, it is the second in the Down for the Count series, and so if you haven't read On the Ropes yet, you should go ahead and do that first, so that this book makes more sense, you will get a full picture. This second book is just as good if not better than the first. This book picks up 3 months after Gabriel and Salem have their tryst, and then the two go their separate ways, for stupid reasons if you ask me. I didn't like that part as you can tell. I was so sure that these two were made for each other! Anyway as I predicted Gabriel can't keep Salem off of his mind. And both of them are miserable apart. Then something happens and they get another chance. Will they take the shot at being together? Take a chance on happiness? Or will they just mess things up again? I did enjoy watching the characters develop during these two books, Gabriel and Salem both. The story was once more written very well with lots of drama, and emotion, and this book was more centered on the characters, rather than the boxing. Also I was glued to my e-reader, reading on and on trying to figure out what was going to happen. Will Gabriel and Salem get their happily ever after or what?! The author does an excellent job of leading you along, dropping breadcrumbs, and then the end! Wow! I really enjoyed both of these books, and before On the Ropes, I hadn't read anything from this author, but I will be looking out for her now. I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
