I received an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of this book! Thank you for the opportunity to read it early!
O'Junea Brown has done it again! A Fate of Chaos & Ruin is an absolutely phenomenal addition to The Obsidian Blade Series. Getting to dive deep into Anya's backstory and see her journey as a powerful witch running from a fearful society completely gripped me from the very first page.
Beyond the romance, this story is a heartbreakingly beautiful exploration of the unique struggles women face when they are feared and ostracized by society. Watching Anya navigate that deep isolation, and step into the true, raw power of womanhood is so healing. Despite the trauma and chaos, the most profound part of this book is how she finds her anchors in discovering that true family is built through fierce, loyal friendships and a love that embraces all her broken pieces. It left me absolutely devastated yet completely empowered!
Huge shout out to O’Junea Brown and her team for providing me with an ARC of this novella set within the world of Obsidian! All opinions are my own and I did not receive anything in exchange for this honest review.
Since our introduction to her in Book 1, Anya was a character I immediately wanted to know more about. Book 2 only adds to the mystery of her origins and I’m so glad we finally have a glimpse in this story! She truly is a badass and while she could have very easily gone down a different path, she remains true to herself and those she loves. She is the embodiment of dark does not mean evil. I highly recommend reading this AFTER Book 2 as prevent any spoilers. I hope Book 3 delves more into her connection with Aravis and her friendship with Thanasis, and also that little tidbit of info about a certain Divine Fae’s whose powers have yet to be revealed…
This very fast pace Novella is the history of how Anya and Amira are intertwined in the Obsidian Blade Series. Anya, the mysterious witch we first encounter in A Fate of Ivory and Onyx and again in A Fate of Flames and Fury. It fully explains her connection to all the characters, and several of them I was kind of shocked at how she was connected to them. You do need to read the first two books to fully understand why we have arrived where we are. Anya's backstory is gut-wrenching, and the more I learn about her, the less I like a certain character. Overall, the story is filled with a lot of adventure, sadness, and hope for the future for the last book in the series.
Thank you to the author and her team for sending me an ARC and giving me the opportunity to dig into this story early.
This was an amazing novella for the Obsidian Blade series. I went in not knowing what to expect, so I felt a little lost in the very beginning but there was a point where our narrator was revealed and it all clicked together beautifully. I devoured this story in one sitting and makes me excited for the next book. I also find myself wanting to go back and reread the first two books now that I have so much backstory. This is a fast paced read that will make you smile and cry in the same sitting.
Huge thank you to the author and the team for providing me with an ARC of this book! All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
I absolutely devoured this novella! A Fate of Chaos & Ruin is a masterclass in backstory that I couldn't put down. The highlight of this story is definitely the incredible depth of the backstory and seeing how all of the characters' lives and histories intertwine. Getting Anya’s gut-wrenching history and discovering her shocking connections to the rest of the characters completely reframes everything.
It has left me incredibly excited for what's to come. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book!
A Fate of Chaos and Ruin was such a good addition to the Obsidian series! I love a good prequel and this book delivered. Seeing Anya find that sisterhood with coven of witches warmed my heart. In real life as a woman that is something that so special to find your people who accept you for who you are. And the rage that consumes her because of what the Death Dealer did I felt deep down inside. I was raging with her lol. I loved the ending! Sets up to the first book really well. I can’t wait to reread to prepare for when the next book in the faeries comes out!
