Rate this book
An enchanting book from a prize-winning author, about the magic of growing things. When Scarlette Beane is born, the tips of her fingers glow green and her mother knows she will grow up to do something wonderful. One night Scarlette plants some seeds, while her fingers flash green sparks. The
ensuing giant vegetable are so huge, the whole village harvest sthem with bulldozers and soup is made in a concrete mixer. But this just shows how small the house is, so Scarlette does do something at dead of night she plants seeds, her fingers sparkle, and the next morning she has a

A tall-tale style story of a little girl, Scarlette, born with a beet-red face and green fingers. She receives a garden and tools from her parents and grandfather for her 5th birthday. She plants carrots, onions and parsley. The vegetables were so large that the next morning, it took the whole village to harvest them. Mom made soup in a cement mixer because the house was so small. The entire village thought the soup was delicious. Scarlette, has a dream the night of the picnic. She plants a huge handful of seeds in one hole in the ground. All those seeds grow into a huge vegetable castle that the family can live in.

I did the most actual memorization for this storytelling (and Micah jumped into my lap 1/2 way through recording!)

Anyway, Scarlette has a magical green thumb, and parents who are obsessive about gardening. She uses her magical talent to change their life.

I especially loved the illustrations in this book. The story was cute too, and will make children feel like they can do something special.

Fun fantasy book about a girl who can magically make vegetables grow. It got Tyson excited about Vegetable Soup! He actually ate his whole bowl of veggie soup! Miraculous!
