Ahh, my opinion of the fmc just dropped into don't like. She's spent the book so far in denial and fudging data to keep her beloved model going. The moment the guys went soft on her and followed her lead, she switched into indignant breaking the rules rant. Edit: Thank you Reyes.

First kiss whoop.

And done. I liked it. More plot than sex, which started at 43% with a kiss, went a scene with each and one together. The ending chapters felt a bit should I end it here How about here. It was why choose Jurassic park under water. I did like the guys. Bit of jealousy from Holden, but felt like they'd instinctively decided the fmc was too much to handle solo. I guess my feelings on this one are...huh consequences. Felt HFN.

I really enjoyed this book! Lots of action and a great introduction to a world I know nothing about. The jargon kinda went over my head in some places but I was still able to follow along. I’d definitely describe this book as more action/suspense and lighter on the romance. This is the first why choose I’ve read where the relationships are not the focal point. I do feel like there could have been more emphasis on the romance and developing relationships but I know it’s hard to balance that with the focal point of the book. I’d definitely read another book by this author.
I so desperately wanted to like this book, but ultimately I threw in the towel at 47%. The concept was intriguing - an underwater luxury resort where guests can experience a prehistoric underwater habitat that had been brought back to existence through the impressive work of the scientist FMC. The vibe was very underwater Jurassic park as the description implied the resurrected creatures, specifically the apex predator, were evolving and more intelligent than initially believed.
What I liked - As stated above, I was excited about the overall concept. I found the setting of the book unique to other books in the why-choose space. - The main 4 characters were well written. I always appreciate a strong, intelligent, somewhat unapologetic FMC. I also liked that the MMCs were 3 distinct characters with fleshed out, individual personalities. - I was totally ok, and honestly liked, that the book seemed more story than smut because I was so intrigued by the concept. -It truly is well written. Some romance books, especially in the why choose space, will sacrifice character development, world building, and literary devices for surface level smut (which I am not knocking at all, I have a love for both!), but that is not the case here.
Why I had to call it quits - way too much science. Initially I appreciated that details weren't glossed over and that the author put in the work to make the characters truly sound like experts in their field, but it went too far at the expense of character development and romance. There were many instances where it felt like the author chose to wax poetic about the scientific aspects of the story rather than fleshing out characters or put the work into their developing relationships. By about 30% I started to get tired of yet another scientific explanation about how something worked or why something may be happening. - The book says it is a Why-Choose Underwater Horror Romance, and it took about 45% of the book to show you that it is either. I'm all for slow burn, but for a standalone to only briefly imply possible romantic interest up until about 40% with first kiss not happening until that point was beyond frustrating. I wasn't even needing smut, I just needed these characters to stop discussing the science and give me deeper relationships. -Not everything needs to be a simile, metaphor, or be described in a way that flourishes the initial action or thought.
In the end, I felt like the author got so caught up in the science and using flourished descriptors that the story lost it's identity. I wish I could have stuck it out longer to see how the relationships amongst the 4 MCs developed, but life is to short to stick with books that feel like a chore.
Very unique writing and dialogue between the characters. Crisp interactions, witty and dry responses, snappy conversations almost in a shorthand. You could really see the individual characters and their quirks and how they worked with each other. Also a unique romance. The plot was definitely foremost but I loved seeing the characters connect in their trauma and find acceptance among each other. Very much enjoyed and would highly recommend.
Wow!! I really love this author. She tells such good stories that actually have plots. I love that she takes RH serious. All the MMCs were different and added something to the story. And Kevin was horrifying. The idea if being stuck underwater and the ones that got in the walls was great. The spice was open door but not super spicy . Loved it.
