Ellen Young writes steamy, feel-everything billionaire romances—fast, emotional, and deliciously spicy. Her books deliver razor-sharp banter, explosive chemistry, and powerful men who fall hard for the last woman they expect. Think: fake dating gone very real, secret identities, forced proximity, surprise feelings (and sometimes surprise babies), and swoon-worthy HEAs with penthouse views. If you love big emotions, bigger wallets, and bedside-table-worthy spice, Ellen’s got you covered. (from Amazon.com)
I ended up enjoying this more than I expected, and it was a quick, entertaining read.
The writing flowed so effortlessly that I flew through it, and it had just the right mix of emotion, romance, and lighthearted moments to keep me hooked.
Connor completely stole my heart. He was thoughtful, dependable, and impossible not to root for. Watching Skylar slowly realize who had been by her side all along could be frustrating at times, but it also made their relationship feel more meaningful. Their friendship gave the romance a genuine warmth, and I loved seeing their connection grow into something deeper.
The chemistry was easy to believe, the banter kept things fun, and the emotional moments balanced the spice really well.
The emotion, chemistry, and satisfying ending made this a really enjoyable read.

Huge thank you to Ellen Young and Booksprout for the ARC! 😍 All my bookish thoughts are completely my own. ✨
I love a good surprise baby romance novel, but this wasn’t it. Best friends that didn’t act like best friends and honestly, the whole story felt like it was written with AI. I wish I got my time back.
I don’t usually write reviews but this one had great reviews so I was excited to read it. The FMC was insufferable. She played the victim and could do any wrong I almost DNF’ed at 75%. I couldn’t tolerate sky until around 90%.
This was a mess and officially my last try with this author. Felt very heavily AI-spew (I’m not saying it was just that a lot of it felt awkward). Stilted. Timelines were wild and hard to follow. From what I could tell she had a positive pregnancy test literally about 2 weeks from the first time they slept together and since that’s not a real possibility in real life I have to assume I missed something.
Also the story/plot in itself was absolutely ridiculous and I can’t do any more stories that wildly convenient and cartoonish.
Also I think Sky takes the cake for the absolute worst and least favorite FMC for me to date. And that’s impressive.
Connor and Skylar have known each other since they were kids. They grew up playing hockey together, and were the best of friends. Connor knew that Skylar was hung up on Connor’s older brother Kieran, while Connor was hung up on Skylar. Years later, they reunite in a sketchy diner at three in the morning, and hold on, folks, it’s going to be a ride from here on out.
Skylar is smart; she sees things that no one else sees, especially when it comes to analytics. She’s barely hanging on, though, choosing between paying the electric bill or eating, which frankly shouldn’t have to be a choice. Even so, she’s stubborn, and she knows she’s right, which gets her a trial run as an analyst for the Metro Raptors, the team for which Connor plays.
Connor just wants to take care of Skylar. He knows she’s having a rough time and tries to help, though she won’t let him. (That changes a little later on.) He’s also searching for validation, as Kieran and his father never seem to have anything to say that isn’t gaslighting. His mother, though, is fantastic, and I love how she stood up for Connor whenever she could, but especially when he needed it the most.
So, fake relationship. It’s for a deal to promote some luxury brand, and will get Connor twelve million dollars in the course of three years. A plan is hatched to do the — yes, you guessed it — fake girlfriend thing for six months and then quietly break up. Connor chooses Skylar, because they know each other and it’s going to look genuine, because they’ve known each other for so long. But things won’t go the way they planned it.
Skylar is still so stuck on the idea of Kieran that she doesn’t realize that the guy she thinks is the one…isn’t. There’s a lot of drama in the third period of the book (see what I did there?), but ultimately, we get a happy ending. And boy, it’s worth the price of admission. I loved this story; I laughed, I got angry on behalf of the main characters, I cried with joy and with sorrow. Now that’s a good book, one that can make you truly feel for the characters. So, get the book. I think you’ll love it.
I love this hockey team! The shanagins these guys get into always cracks me up. If you haven’t experienced the world of hockey romances, grab one of the books in this series. Ellen does a fantastic job of giving equal amounts of hockey with everything else so if feels like a sports romance. If you don’t know anything about hockey, it’s all good! You don’t have to in order to enjoy the story.
Connor plays professional hockey for the Metro Raptors. He had the life you dream of, doing what he loves to earn a living, a really nice house, adoring fans, and more money than he can spend in a lifetime. But none of it is good enough for his family. Everyone compares him to his older brother who was a professional hockey player as well but is now his assistant coach. However no matter how much he stays away, the voices in his head stay filling him with doubt. One night after a game he runs into his best friend Skylar, who hasn’t seen in an almost a decade is sitting in the diner he wonders into. And all the childhood feelings he had come rushing back as he sees her all grown up.
Skylar is trying to break into hockey game analysis. But so free her freelance work only barely covers her bills. But she is determined to make it in the industry she loves and has been a part of her whole life. One hockey player in particular has always had a piece of her heart even though he looks right through her, until she starts fake dating his brother. However dating Connor feels anything but fake. Now she has to decide which brother she is in love with and which one is just a let down.
I have read all the books in this series and it’s one of my favorites. You don’t have to read them in order but it helps. Ellen Young is my number one sports romance author so if you want to dive into the sports romance genre she has you covered.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
“Pucking Deal” is the first book in the “Metro Raptors Series.” This is a steamy standalone romance in which two best friends strike a deal: fake date for mutual benefit. Problems…Connor has been in love with Sky for years, Skye’s crushing on Connor's jerk of an older brother, Fake dating gets complicated when your best friend turns out to be ridiculously good in bed together….what could possibly go wrong?
There is never a dull moment! This book is everything you expect from a sports romance with a touch of alpha male thrown in. I’m very happily hooked - I did not want it to end! Once I started reading, I could not put this book down! At times you will laugh, you will cry, get angry and frustrated - most of all, you will love the twists! This book will charm “the pants off you” and leave you going back for more. This is a lovely book that will keep you hooked! It has fun, laughs, intrigue, twists that you do not expect, and physical attraction. You will fall in love with Connor and Sky. They compliment each in some many ways - faults and all.
“Connor makes a sound low in his throat, his hands coming up to frame my face as he kisses me right there in the middle of his living room. The kiss starts slow, almost careful, like he’s still giving me one last chance to pull away. I don’t. I open for him. The moment our tongues touch, the carefulness disappears. I needed this. The solid weight of him. He tastes like mint and heat and the faint salt of his shower. I kiss him back like I’m drowning and he’s air.”
I was hooked by the first chapter. This is a lovely book that will keep you hooked! It has fun, laughs, intrigue, twists that you do not expect, and physical attraction. I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful love story. From page to page, chapter to chapter, from cover to cover - you will enjoy this beautiful story. This book will not disappoint! Highly recommended 😊
🌶🌶🌶🌶 This book had everything and more! Conner and Sky have been bestfriends for forever, he has had a crush on her, but she had a crush on his older brother Kieran. When Conner runs into Sky after years of not seeing her, he comes up with a plan to keep her around... fake date to get an endorsement deal for him and to make her be seen by his brother. Of course Conner doesn't want his brother to be with Sky, but he has always been Second best when it comes to him, so now Conner has to prove to Sky it is not a fake relationship and make her choose him instead of his brother.
I loved how it showed Conner's family drama. How his dad always favored his brother and was not shy about it and Conner would just sit there and take it! It was like that all the time, even when his brother would give him $h!t on the ice because of course his brother the assistant coach. Sky was a hard pill to swallow IMO. there were so many times I would think, gah this girl is an idiot. When in reality she just got swept up with the image in her head that she could see anything else, but it took me a looong time to be okay with her.
All in all great book spice was spicy. I personally would get mad when I had to put it down!
Thank you to the author for the ARC 🫶 🏒Hockey romance 😍Friends to lovers 😜Fake dating 🥵He falls first 🍼Surprise pregnancy Sky has her eyes set on her ex Kieran again and who better to help her win him back than friend Connor... who happens to be Kierans brother! The pair decide on a fake dating situationship to make Kieran jealous but this goes too far when 2 pink lines show up! I have really enjoyed this series so far, 4 stars for Pucking Deal - I did enjoy it but probably my least favourite so far. This is more to do with the tropes than the book or writing though i want to make that clear! Two of my least favourite tropes are surprise pregnancy and friends to lovers so this book had a lot of work to do! As always, I enjoyed that Ellen's books are short and easy to binge. I enjoy her writing style and also her spice 🌶 I found the main characters relationship very frustrating at times, you just wanted to shake them! She truly did pick the wrong brother and couldn't see what or rather who was infront of her 🙈 I do love a hockey romance especially with fake dating so this was a win for me 👌
Skylar & Connor's story drew me in from the very beginning & kept me hooked thee whole time!!! I really loved their story...
It was a bit sad how much she thought she loved Connor's brother Kieran for so long... even after Connor had started loving her... and sad what Kieran did/how he treated her... but eventually they found their way together & their HEA...
I love their chemistry & that they were great friends even before they fell in love. I love how Connor takes care of her... from food to paying her rent... to just looking out for her & checking on her...and I'm glad she didn't settle for less (the brother).
This book is part of the Metro Raptors series, as a standalone book.
Spice level: 3/5
*hockey romance *sports romance *workplace romance *fake dating *best friends to lovers *drama with the brothers (liking one, then the other) *surprise pregnancy *billionaire romance *he falls first
Thank you to the author (Ellen Young) & Booksprout for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Skylar was best friends with Conner for years. But five years ago she finally told Conner’s older brother, Kieran, that she’s in love with him. But unfortunately he laughed so she ghosted everyone and pretended to leave the state. Now she really needs a job and runs into Conner. He tells her about an opening for his team. But of course Kieran just started there as well. And running into him has brought everything back. Conner has always been second to Kieran. So it doesn’t help when his old best friend and childhood crush shows she still wants Kieran. They agree to fake date to make him jealous plus also get Conner a deal he’s been wanting. I’m a huge sucker for a hockey romance. I almost didn’t grab this book because I’m not the biggest fan of second chance/friends to lovers but I’m so glad I did!! I was immediately pulled into this book and couldn’t put it down. I will definitely be checking out the other books in this series!
Skylar had crush on Kieran sience she was a teenager.Connor need a fake girlfriend and who's better then his best friend Skylar who he didn't see in a long time.Unexpected attraction was not part of the deal, now Skylar is not sure which brother she really wants.Sometimes pretend feels better then the real thing.
It was another naughty and emotional read from author.I loved Connor,Skylar I needed a little bit longer to warm up to as it was obvious which brother treat her better from the beginning. As always I get some emotional spin, very spicy chemistry and a lovely ending that's heartwarming.Another book in the series and I'm glad to get to read it early.
If you like sport romance, best friends to lovers and spice I would recommend this one.
Thank you author and booksprout for arc,my review is honest and my own.
🏒 Sports Romance 🏒 Hockey Romance 🏒 Friends to Lovers
⭐ 4/5
Connor and Skylar
This hockey romance follows Connor and Skylar. A love story that was many years in the making. They grew up together, but Skylar always had a thing for Connor’s older brother, while, you know it, he had one for her. When they meet again after years it is like a movie situation. But we have lots of personal dramas, fake relationships and a long way to a happy end. Or more, to see that the best is right in front of you. A journey with relatable characters and a beautiful love story worth waiting for the happy end.
Connor was the right guy all along. Skylar just never realized it. She dated the wrong brother and he broke her heart. But here’s Connor all grown up and looking mighty fine. Skylar isn’t only impressed but she wants to fake date him to make his brother jealous. Except nothing about these two was fake. Skyler was just too blind to see it. These two were so good together. She was with the wrong brother, it was always Connor. I’m so glad she finally figured it out so the two could be together and be happy.
I have to be honest; I spent a good portion of this book wanting to Gibb’s slap Skylar and tell her to open her eyes. Kieran was the wrong choice for anyone, forget that childhood crush. Conner was doing so good then he messed up too. Great HEA after all that angst. Well written with some wonderful characters and good steam. I really hope there are more books coming in this series and this isn’t the last one.
I say this all the time but this might be my favorite metro Raptors book!! Connor has always been in love with Skylar but Skylar has always had a crush on Connor's brother. Connor needs to rehab his image and Skylar wants her crush, Connor's brother, to notice her. So they decide to fake date and all of the sudden it starts to feel very real. I absolutely adore Connor, he is just the sweetest fake but very real boyfriend!!
Wayyy too much back and forth between the love interests and I wasn’t a fan of the FMC like at all. To the point where I wish the MMC had not gotten with her. She’s actually stupid and honestly, I felt really bad for him. Literally everyone in his life - except his mom - glazed tf out of his brother and 💩 on him, including the FMC. MMC deserved someone better.
3.25⭐️ only because I liked the MMC and the writing wasn’t horrible.
This book was a great one. It totally kept me wanting more and gave me all the emotions as I read it. There were times I went from being sad for a character, to really mad at them, to being happy. Ellen Young does it again and I can't wait to read another one of her Metro Raptors books. Keep bringing them!.
"Pucking Deal" by Ellen Young is a fast paced, steamy hockey romance that hooks you from the very first chapter. it's attention grabbing, emotional and full of witty banter, making it a fun and engaging read for sports romance fans.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Skylar basically dropped off the face of the earth after confessing her feelings for her best friend’s brother. Years later the two friends reconnect and form a plan to help each other.
The heat from the very beginning from these two was hard to miss. If you enjoy a cocky man who likes to make the women blush this is it.
The main female character is weak. She is immature by asking male character to finally use birth control after she was pregnant 🙄. Sky gas lite the main male character and played the victim when all their problems were her fault. I personally can't stand women like that.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I was glad when Skylar finally opened her eyes to realize that she belonged with Connor who always looked after her. It was great when they admitted their love for each other.
While I enjoy this author’s work I am disappointed in this story. Skylar can’t see what’s right in front of her face. She doesn’t deserve Connor. I like to read books that make me root for HEAs for the lead characters, this is not one of those.
Love this book so much. It showed how a relationship can grow from nothing and into something so good. Love how they knew each other and in the end she figured out the real person she has loved her entire life.
Really enjoyed the writing style, definitely not necessarily something you haven’t seen before but well written! First 2/3 of the book had great pacing but the end felt rushed and crammed into a small part so that’s about all I’d say there. Nice quick read
Super cute read that’s filled with tension from family drama, two brothers, one childhood best friend, a fake dating scheme and a painful crash and burn that leads to something beautiful.
So bad. I don’t get how it has such good ratings. It’s hugely inconsistent, has unlikeable/weak characters, and goes with smut for smut sake. I only finished it because I thought the professional job side would have a bigger part of the ending…alas, it fizzled about as much as my patience.
A good and touching story. At first, I was mad at the MFC . How could she not know the MMC was better than that knob of a brother. But in the end of course it all worked out. Spice level 4 chilis 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ Very Nice
Meh. Timelines/references didn’t line up, and noted a few typos that spell check would’ve grabbed. Characters flipped their emotions so quickly I couldn’t keep up. Liked the premise, but the execution left me wanting
