At an angle, across the dotted lines where the customer was supposed to have written his name and number of his cheque account, Borck read; THE THING IN MY POCKET IS A REVOLVER. HAND OVER THE CASH YOU'VE GOT IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT AROUSING SUSPICION. Borck was the last to leave the bank. The chance discovery of this message on a counterfoil encouraged him to believe that a cashier's life left a lot to be desired...
