Y.A #3

What My Heart Wants / Waiting For A Fall

Rate this book
Did I miss a class growing up? You know the kind that teaches you how to deal with teenage heartache and maybe how to avoid it all together?

I could have used the advice.

Desperately.

Senior year wasn’t supposed to be like this for Annabelle Simms. Thanks to James, after having a crazy off/on relationship with him
since school started, it’s been nothing but heartache central.

After confronting James and the popular crew in front of the entire school, things were about to get harder. If she had any hope of surviving the rest of her senior year in one piece, she’d have to ignore what her heart wanted and start listening to her head.

How many times could she say this was the last time before… it was too late?

Warning Contains Sexual Scenes
Recommended for ages 17+
This is not a standalone novel. Book 3 in Y.A Series

WAITING FOR A FALL
Previously published as Young Annabelle Series: Young Annabelle, The Truth About James, What My Heart Wants (Books #1-3).
***Author's Cut Version***
***Warning contains strong language and sexual scenes***
***There is a HEA***

The first time I met James I thought he was an idiot. But the more time we spent together the more I realized that he was just as angry as I was. Him with his dad and me with my mom. He’s got me all twisted, messed up to a point where I barely recognize myself anymore. My best friend tells me to dump him. My parents don’t know he exists. But I can’t seem to stay away. When we’re alone it’s everything, but when we’re at school it’s like we don’t even exist, and I wish he’d tell me why.

Already a star on the Royal Heights High School Baseball team, James Lawson wasn’t your average transfer student. Even with his ‘new guy’ status, he quickly becomes one of the popular ‘Kings’ at school and that alone should have been the red flag Annabelle needed to stay away from him. He’s arrogant, intense, rude and worst of all he seems like the kind of guy that usually gets what he wants. But the more time they spend together the more difficult she finds it to stay away from him, especially with all the stress her mother is causing her concerning her appearance. As if she didn't already have enough to worry about, she finds out that the popular ‘Queen’ of Royal Heights High had her sights set on a certain popular ‘King’. In Donna Tallins eyes, James was her perfect match, but there was one person standing in her way of high school couple stardom. And that was Annabelle.

So this book picks up exactly where the 2nd book ended....here's a recap of some of the characters.
Annabelle is a former fat girl who hasn't really accepted her new found body who is totally obsessed with a boy named James.
James is a total douche and haven't really liked him from the beginning of the series because he treats Anna like crap....but oh just wait there's more to his story and the truth comes out in this book.
Jenna is Anna's BFF and is always there to support Anna although she comes off a little judgmental at times.
Donna is the pathetic skanky chick that is constantly throwing herself and James but he fights her off at every turn.
Anna's mom I literally despised the first two books due to her giving Anna a complex about her weight and just not accepting and loving her daughter, but luckily in this book she has done a complete 180 and is trying to be there for her daughter.
So in this book of course its filled with more drama and let me just say that I'm so thankful I didn't go to school with anyone like these people. Anna is still obsessed with James but can't understand why he could humiliate her in front of the entire school which in turns causes more stress on her thus losing more weight (depression will do that to you). Jenna is there to give her pep talks during the beginning and she is able to stay away from James although she still longs for him. James' secrets are finally reveled and he finally admits to Anna that he loves her and is determined to make her his again. Without giving too much away just know that Anna gets the ending she always wanted.

What I liked about this series: Anna and James and their friends are young, they act their age and do lots of stupid stuff. And it's OK, good really. I didn't like how James was in the last two books, even if it was partly explained. He treated Anna badly and he was too volatile, aggressive and possessive. Still, I couldn't forget him from the first book so I still rooted for him. Young love isn't always easy, it's messy and stupid and you learn alot from those first relationships. Book 3 was a 3-3.5 read and the series as a whole gets 4 stars.

I'm so hooked! LOL Is it May yet!?!

If not for the interpuncutation and the confusion about "passed" and "past" I'd actually have given all 5 stars - stuff like that always irritates me when I read and I hate it when so small mistakes bring me out of my zone. BUT!!! I'm so happy, that I continued reading this serie. The characters got more depth, Annabelle became even stronger and got herself some backbone and James got knocked down a few and was even a little bit more humble. I was happy, that the whole diet thing got also more complex. The whole hierarchy thing of the student body reminded me a lot of Tijan's Fallen Crest High, which I love. There seemed with exception of one person no black and white - everyone had their shades of grey. It was all in all just good and I'm so happy, that my premonition from my review of Young Annabelle was right.

What My Heart Wants gives the Y.A. serie a well deserved ending, in which everything was explained and James and Annabelle get their perfect HEA.

2.5 stars what i loved about this book was not the book at all but the end with the addition of the York's authors version of the story showing the subtle changes and nuances of James character.

After reading basically the story again how the author originally intended it a lot of the conversations and actions in book 1 made sense. Making me like James a lot more however not to a degree that would make me want to read a book from his perspective.

But back to the actual book at hand. None of the excuses given for James worked for me. They seemed tired and ineffective. Anna seems to have no back bone what so ever and willingly accepts his weak excuses because she "loves" him.

No way!

How can Anna just go back to James like that? I'm pissed I was cheering for Dean or even Matthew. But sadly this type of FC have such low self-esteem that they think they deserve to be treated badly.

The final of the bad books with a bad main character and bad romantic partner that were all awful. Thank god.

Still angsty, still loving it. I quite enjoyed the ending of James and Annabelle's part of the series. This was just a good read and had me laughing sometimes at just how farfetched and outrageous things were sometimes. I have absolutely no qualms at how a lot of the scenes seemed to follow the script of Seriously? This cannot be happening. I loved it anyway, all the excess drama and all. If I'm being frank, the drama is what kept me interested. It was a nice break from reality.

I think my main issue is still the excessive use of exclamation marks because sometimes it was like, why are you yelling? That still grated on my nerves. Sorry, I just couldn't get over it. Also, why the use of ' _' instead of '--' when a character was interrupting another? Even though I knew what the author was getting at, it still irked me I don't know! (See? Doesn't that use of an exclamation mark seem out of place? Well that was me throughout the entire book.)

Anyway, really liked this series and am glad I took the time to read it. Kind of wished the ending had been tied up a little more. I felt like something was missing or that there were a few strings whose end were still slightly frayed so we don't really know if they'll unravel even more...but I digress. Really good angst filled series, perfect for those of us who love the drama (:

UPDATE (20 mins later): Well color me surprised, just saw there's going to be another book following this couple BUT IT COMES OUT IN A MONTH!!!! NOoooo. So. I guess this book was not a 'goodbye' but a 'see you later'. Dang, why couldn't I have found this book when it was all completed? ): Absolutely tragic. Well, here's the agony of waiting.

I loved this series! Not loved enough for it to be under my favorites list, but still. Ha! All along, James was really protecting Anna but I was thinking of a better way to do that, a better way where he didn't keep hurting Anna, but I guess the story wouldn't be interesting without their banter and back-and-forth issue.

This book is everything you expect in a YA novel, but in a really good way. There is the cliche, lots of drama, immature people and acts, first love, growing up, insecurities, and other teenage matters. It might be annoying sometimes but the author made it very relatable (considering that I'm 18 and I go through this stuff) and REAL. I mean, it is okay. It is natural.

This is my first series by Sarah Tork and this won't be the last. Surely, I will be reading more books by the author. I hope she writes NA novels, too.

All I can say is I'm glad I didn't go to high school with this lot! Another addictive instalment which I read in one sitting - I couldn't put the thing down.

The story drags you on an emotional journey, Annabelle is torn into pieces throughout this book and though parts made me cringe for her I was glad that the ending explained everything. James continued to be an arse but again he was intoxicating in parts of the plot. The twists and turns throughout the plot kept surprising me, especially the ending.

A great series of books, I'm glad that I read them.

I enjoyed this book and am happy with the way it turned out. I would continue to read any other books about this couple. I have enjoyed their story :) I know many think this series was unrealistic, but I disagree. First loves, boyfriends etc are hard to forget. Traditionally it does not carry on like this because the guy is an ass. But this had the ending most girls dreamed of with that first boyfriend!

Wow, unbelievable! A love worth fighting for!

I've read all the series regarding James and Annabelle. The messed up situation with their relationship. Instead acting like a complete douche, he could've have told Annabelle the truth from the very beginning. Annabelle, needed to grow a back. They spent way to much time fighting, instead of being together and loving each other as it should've always been.

This wasn't as good as the first one but I still enjoyed it. I liked finally finding out what James' deal was but it definitely a surprise. I didn't see that coming.

I gave this story as a whole probably 3 stars. It was entertaining but a bit too YA for me. James said 'baby' way too much but I liked both Annabelle and James characters a lot and glad that they finally were together.

Be warned

This is not a complete book. Book three ends at 35% Mark of the book. I had seen reviews that this book ended abruptly and the reason for James' behavior was idiotic, and I wholeheartedly agree. Tiger and Fireball deserved a better ending to their story. I adored the first two books, but I was so disappointed in this one.

Good

The overall series was good but it needs to be edited. There was only a small amount if misspelled words but there were numerous punctuation errors.

Honestly I'm super annoyed that the same thing just keeps playing out over and over, he cheats, she gets mad, she dumps him, he looks at her and talks nicely, finally she melts and crawls back to him. Give the girl some dignity! The only reason I keep reading is in hopes that she dumps him!

I never ever do reviews. However this book is an exception, it was honestly the book form of a bad lifetime movie, you want to stop watching but it's just so bad that it's addictively good lmao. I'm honestly looking forward to the last book in this train wreck
