The City of Akul: The Legend of William Oh, Book 2
William Oh’s party has completed the third floor. They have conquered many dangers, made enemies, and — more importantly — found friends. And it is time to beg those friends for money.
The crew makes their way outside the Tower, looking for sponsors to help them get past the deadly fourth floor and allow them to reach the City of Akul — the largest, richest city in the world. But beneath its prosperous facade, Akul is a powder keg, where a single spark could set off tensions between powerful Lords and result in an explosion that will engulf the city in chaos.
And William Oh is just the man for that job.

Macronomicon is almost three years old now, hatched on the open-mic writing website Royal Road. The pen name burst from the cocoon of blissful ignorance and deposited his first humble contribution into the world of writing, tired and sticky, yet satisfied. Content in the knowledge his work would be warmly received by thousands of potential fans, and more importantly...friends.
The first comment was, "Can you, I don't know, make the main character less stupid?"
That was sobering.
Macronomicon has no actual weight, because he is a pen name, and while his existence is ephemeral, he does have a presence, often stalking the back-channels of Discord like a novelty vampire, waiting to suck nourishing creativity out of unfortunate* fans.
Macronomicon has a talent for brainstorming and stringing together disparate ideas into a cohesive story. That talent has been strengthened and built upon to form the foundation of his writing career. He once outlined the plot (quality notwithstanding) of an entire book from start to finish in a tiny room with nothing but Cheerios, beef jerky, Pepsi and B.O.**

Funny, combative and thoroughly entertaining
Having read most of Macronomicon's works, I, of course, like his writing style. I didn't know if i.was going to like the Legend of William Oh, though. At first it was another poor orphan (ala Harry Potter, Luke Skywalker, etc), but it got detailed very quickly. So much so that the second book got pulled into my reading list even though I had other books lined up before it. A thoroughly enjoyable read, just read the first book first.

Not quite on the same level as book one. Still an enjoyable read but there were an annoying amount of tedious item descriptions and I found the mystery/reveal a bit confusing and unsatisfying.

You think you can see the direction the narrative is heading. Then there is a perspective shift that makes the wall *down* and changes the trajectory of *everything*.
But it all somehow still fits together. The hints were there all along.
This is top notch stuff.

A build on nitro!
A break-neck, high-pressure, high-competence combo of Litrpg that comes once in a blue moon! Entertaining, with high stakes and fun characters.
The world building is wildly creative and engaging. You might be aware there’s grinding on a once-every-other-book frequency, you never spend reading time being dragged through it.
Highly recommend for an entertaining read.

Truly Impressive
A fun and lighthearted story of friendship, adventure, biological warfare, city conquest, sabotage, politics, trauma recovery, and the systematic abduction and torture of teens. Combining those plot points into a story of hope and fun is an amazing bit of writing.
Highly recommended.

I was sad to leave my guy. My guy paid it down and the younger orphan started a Chuck Norris legacy legend. But so far he’s backing it up.

A fun adventure story
Imma give it 5 stars because it is very enjoyable, but I would love if it was a bit less build and stats focused and more characters and plot focused like the first one was. I feel like we just got bogged down in the middle of the book with build options which is not in my personal opinion where the book/author shines. Very fun and a lot of good stuff though.

A step down in quality from the first book. While I blazed through the first book in a single day, this one took me a few days. At several points in the story I would stop and ask, "What's the point of this scene?" and after finishing the book I can confidently say in the vast majority of the cases there wasn't one.
The action was still good, and I continue to like Will's character. But the rest of his party are already feeling like they are obsolete and pointless. The only exception being Loth. The story was still good enough that I'm going to continue the series, but this was a disappointment.

Great except one issue
This is a complete pet-peeve but the word itch is not a replacement for scratch. Yes it can be used as an intransitive verb (this new shirt itches). Not as a transitive verb (I itched my bug bite). This is like nails on a chalkboard to me whenever I come across it and the last quarter of the book has it appear quite a few times. Besides my gripe the rest of the book was absolutely fantastic and I can't wait for the third entry.

The voice acting and sound work is on another level. Soundbooth team never ever dissapoint, it's truly inspiring. Oneday I'll hopefully get to work with em on my book, but for now, this was very fun.
I love the eractiness of the plot and how real the characters feels. Loth might be one of my all time fav characters even tho she's a mary sue, it's done so well.
Can't wait for the next one! (in audiobook ofc)

Good fight scenes and great progress
The first book was awesome and I listened to it on Audible, which was great because they had the stuff where they tell his tails had a little jingle for it. It was great and this book is also awesome. Can’t wait for audible. I usually listen to them both and read it.

Book two
This is in my favorites list on Royalroad. I will stack up chapters and read when I can't find anything to hold my attention. It's not bad I just find it a bit silly. I get silly overload and have to put it down for a while.
Even though I read it in chunks I still want to thank the author for letting us read the story as it develops.

An excellent installment!
Also thoroughly enjoyable. The character growth is going at a good pace! I like that William keeps me on my toes. Usually I spot a plot twist a mile away, but the author plays them close to the chest, and because William doesn't share thoughts on them too often, they can definitely come as a surprise, in a good way!

Growth baby!
Still a lot of fun, the constant switching of items for best gear is so frustrating, but feels like every game ever set with gear.
Will being an intuition based detective was a lot of fun because little bits and pieces getting pulled together cohesively is rewarding, and the prophet of chuck Norris jokes is just hilarious.

Oh my!
Too much fun here. Will gets intimidated plenty of trouble, but he's starting to think ahead and the results, for his enemies, are not so great. Really enjoyed this entry in the series - can't wait to read the next!

good read
This was a fun story to read. The MC’s teammates could use a bit more fleshing out, and the discussion of abilities and upgrades is way too complicated and detailed. Also the MC’s powers are At times quite underwhelming. Otherwise, I enjoyed the book.

such a breath of fresh air
Wow I love these books. A great mixture of brilliant characters and world building,comedy and drama leaving plenty for the reader to try to work out what’s really going on still as well. Really can’t wait for the next book.

4.2 Stars. Felt like a bit of filler, Dragon Ball Z style. But enjoyed the endings and characters very much. Hyberbole was toned down but still many, many clever things inside. Looking forward to the next audiobook. Some day...

Worth it
The story line flows. It’s convoluted and unpredictable. The rumors about William are amusing. Just a good book and worth it.

Despite this being a full cast book, the story just has not pulled me and I will not be trying to read book 3 and beyond
