Blue Phoenix drummer, Bryn Hughes, prefers a quiet life away from the spotlight. But that’s proving difficult when his life is complicated by three very different girls:

Mia, the girl who doesn’t understand the word no.
Avery, who wishes she’d said yes.
And his forever girl.

Add to this a secret that threatens to take decisions about the future out of Bryn’s hands, and Bryn’s reputation as the uncomplicated band member is over.

The world of Blue Phoenix is changing and Bryn is on the edge. Following a failed attempt to win back the girl he loved and lost as a teen, a broken-hearted Bryn returns to England and discovers heiress, Mia Jordan, has moved herself into his apartment while he was away. Life just got hard.

When Avery spills soup on a rock star at a wedding and suggests he removes his trousers, she doesn’t expect to see Bryn Hughes again unless he’s carrying a law suit. So when Bryn gatecrashes an evening with her friends the following day, what he does stuns her.

Avery and Bryn begin an unlikely relationship but their growing closeness looks set to end. If Bryn’s heart still belongs to a different girl, and he’s about to tour with Blue Phoenix, a future together looks doubtful.

But when a secret explodes, the effects reverberate through every aspect of Bryn’s world and deciding where his heart belongs becomes the least of Bryn’s problems.

*sigh* Bryn. I had been waiting for the mysterious, sexy, curly maned, cheeky drummer, for what seemed like ages.
When I finally got to immerse myself in his story, I wasn't disappointed.

Blue Phoenix drummer, Bryn Hughes was the last to have his story told, and no, drummers do not always come in last. I think it's more, saving the best till last!

I'm not going to give much background on this particular story, from the Blue Phoenix series. I usually give a summary of the story, but anyone who knows this series, and especially Bryn, know that him and his story have always been a mystery.
Nobody knew what his secrets were, or why we didn't ever see him with ladies. We just saw him as the peace keeper of the band. Who was always there to kick the other members butts, if they needed it. He always had the sarcasm ready, and a smile. But that is about all we knew.
Being able to throw the line 'Nobody cares, I'm the drummer" means Bryn can get away with hiding his private life, more so than the other band members, so he was a complete enigma to the readers.

"I'm the drummer, remember? They won't recognise me unless I'm with Dylan or Jem."

So that leads us to his story, at last.
Without giving too much away, we get the story of when Bryn attends a wedding, and ends up covered in pumpkin soup, with the help of a waitress, who isn't exactly employee of the month!
With a huge amount of laughs, and cringe worthy moments, and of course lots of chemistry, we meet Avery!
Don't think for one second, this is a straight forward romance. The boys of Blue Phoenix, never get things straight forward and easy, they have to work to get their HEA, which just goes to show, Rock Stars don't get everything handed to them on a plate. Bryn is most definitely put through his paces, and it's funny, sad, crazy hot, and stupidly satisfying.

Avery took more than my heart, she took away the confused guy who wouldn't grow up, and replaced him with a man no longer afraid to move on and love.

There is a lot of emotions to be felt while reading this book, and it most definitely was worth the wait. Each time a new Blue Phoenix story comes out, the band members seem to trump each other.
It's hard to have a favourite member, when with each new story, we fall in love all over again. Bryn was no exception.

"You may be cute, but you're bloody stubborn," he replies
"You may be a hot rock star, but you broke my heart."

~

"Every morning I've woken up and wished I could see the infuriating, sexy, funny, smart, caring girl who snuck into my heart."
"That's a lot of adjectives."
"I have plenty more."

The stories in this series, never disappoint. They are written beautifully and I dread to think what will happen, when this series comes to an end. It's like a Blue Phoenix addiction, no other Rock Star book can match in my eyes. I can't wait to see whats next.

Hugely recommended to anyone who loves, a gripping romance with twists and turns, rock star hotties, down-to-earth girls, and lot's of funny 1-liners, but still plenty of shock and sniffles. It seriously has something for everyone, and is written amazingly well!

5+ Stars.

This was definitely my favourite book in this series! Bryn was the quiet guy we didn't really know much about, and he didn't disappoint! He was hilarious! He had a weird sense of humour, but I loved it! Avery was a little closed off to her feelings towards Bryn, and it took a bit of convincing on his side for them to finally be together. The ending was great, and I loved that we were able to see a lot of their relationship, not just the journey to them being together :)

Technically this story is a standalone, but please note that it is part of the Blue Phoenix series, so it does contain spoilers and overlaps with previous books, which should be read first.

Bryn Hughes, Blue Phoenix drummer, is the last member to find his HEA girl yet.
From the other books it’s clear that Bryn is a bit of a mystery. Nobody knows his secrets. Nobody knows why we didn’t see him with any women. Through the books he’s just kind of been the peace keeper of the group. As the drummer Bryn can get away with a more anonymous existence than the front figures of the band, as long as he doesn’t create any scandals. And all this has suited Bryn perfectly.

description

On a night out with the band and their significant others’ Bryn gets doused in soup, and that’s how we meet Avery. She’s a lovely down to earth girl, who’s not swept up in the whole “omg you’re THE Bryn Hughes”. I love Avery’s personality and I think it compliments Bryn perfectly.

The fates aren’t smiling too kindly on these two, that thanks to instant attraction wants to give a relationship a chance. Like the other band members, they have to fight, tooth and nail, to get what they want.

What I did enjoy is that even though it’s, almost, the same recipe used throughout the series, Jem and Bryn’s stories just seem better, more solid. There’s no petty misunderstanding and tantrum throwing hissy fits that stand in anyone’s way, their story shows that even Rock Stars lives can be turned upside down and sometimes you have no choice but to deal!

I think what I enjoyed the most was Bryn’s humour. That man is hilariously weird.

Decides His Place Is With Another Woman At 90% Of The Book And Never Tells Her He Tried To Sleep With Hannah.

Abuser.

Neglect is Abuse.

"This doesn't change anything" you can tell by how he completely shut down and left her neglected and hurt and then let his family and Hannah make plans in the background without her that he doesn't speak to her about.

Doesn't respect her.

A nice Patriarchial Parable

Its cute that he thinks he "almost cheated" when hes been cheating emotionally the entire time.

Hes physically not been there either.

Narcissist tried to fuck his ex and have his cake and then got rejected.

Maybe the author left that but in there on purpose.

Who knows?

Its love to start out Gaslighting your partner and never revealing your whole truth.

OH MY GOD!!! This one out of the entire series is my ultimate favorite. I loved it because we finally get to see a different side of Bryn that we don't usually see other than his usual mother hen side. We finally get to see him fall in love and we also get to see why he never had a serious girlfriend. I love the fact that even though Bryn screwed up and broke Avery's heart twice, she stays with him because he loves her in a way that nobody has ever loved her. If I could be Avery I would love to find someone like Bryn, because to be honest I have a thing for drummers.

Absolutely Brilliant.

I think Bryn has just become my favourite of the Blue Phoenix boys. Bless him, although there were times throughout the book I wanted to smack him. It was really great learning more about the group.
I was pulled into this book from the start just like with all the others, only this story pulled at my heart string a little bit more than the other.
This was a great book to end this series on.
Highly recommend this book, in fact the series is one you don't want to miss.

Bryn and Avery have a rocky start. His story is shocked full of other women. He lost his one true love when she moved to Australia. And as a drummer in a famous band his bed is not always empty. His 'one's has finally told him they were through. No more hook ups and being hidden. He is lost. But after meeting Avery he has a new look at life. The hole in his heart might heal. When his past comes to him with secrets kept he may loose his second chance.

Bravo!!! 🎶💖

Oh how I loved this one! Bryn and Avery absolutely captured my heart. Take the journey from the first hysterical soupy meet cute, and all the heartbreaking ups and downs in between. It's filled with oodles of humor, a hunky rock star with a huge heart, drama, surprises, and an all out amazing journey. I highly recommend taking the ride and seeing what's in store for these two. Gotta admit I think Bryn *may* just be my fave in the series so far.....shhhhh don't tell the rest of Blue Phoenix 😉. Go ahead and see for yourself.

Disappointed at unresolved ending

I was disappointed that their story was left in limbo. I know he feels he needs to spend time with his son, but move to Australia? What happens when Avery has his child? I was hoping he would move his son and his ex to London so the months away from Avery wouldn't be necessary.

Another fantastic read by one of my favourite authors...

Reverb is the fifth book in the Blue Phoenix series of books by Lisa Swallow. This book traces the story of Bryn, the drummer from the world famous Blue Phoenix rock band.

Bryn is different to the other members of Blue Phoenix, his lay-back character gives him charm and charisma, but he seems a little removed if not even a bit standoffish or insensitive. I find Bryn to be the most complicated of the band members and that's saying something, especially when they are all individual characters with complications that make for a great read. What I do love about Bryn is his sense of humour and I know that's why everyone will love him too. Bryn has been mentioned in the other books in the series, but until this book, we do not get to see Bryn with all his idiosyncrasies and his ability to make a girl swoon. I love that Bryn sees himself as just ‘the drummer’ and that no one will recognise him unless he is with Dylan or Jem. That just made me laugh and made me see how unaffected he is with the rock star lifestyle.

The book starts out with Bryn's attempts to win his 'forever girl' and when that attempt fails he doesn't deal with the loss well. He meets Avery, a gorgeous young woman who has had her heart broken. After Avery covers Bryn's crotch in soup, Bryn slams into Avery's life and in true Bryn form he gate crashes an event where Avery's ex and best friend (the best friend who stole her ex) are attending. Fun entails and you see a side of Bryn that is carefree and amusing. But Avery, on the other hand, is almost fangirling Bryn because of his link to Blue Phoenix, but she also knows the risks and tries to keep that distance from him because deep down she knows she will get hurt. The two of them together is sad in some ways. Bryn still wants Hannah but is confused by his feelings for Avery. Avery, on the other hand, wants Bryn but is confused by his feelings for Hannah and knows that eventually he will leave her for Hannah. Bryn has a past that he just cannot leave behind and when that past rears up and bites him again, well let’s just say you will have to read to find out if Bryn ends up with his forever girl or the beautiful Avery.

I loved this book, everything about it was great. There was frustration, angst and a lot of laughs. Bryn's story is one I will not forget in a hurry and, as usual, I lose sleep reading Lisa's books because I cannot put them down and this one is no different. I give Bryn’s story a huge five star rating, five stars are not enough for Lisa Swallow’s book in my opinion.

Check out more of my reviews on my blog http://gemmareadstoomuch.co.uk

Reverb is book #5 in the Blue Phoenix series, I love this series so I was super excited when I was gifted a copy of this book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

Bryn is the quiet boy of Blue Phoenix, I always thought his presence was overshadowed by the bigger personalities of Dylan and Jem.

But do you know what this book has made me realise? It’s that Bryn isn’t quiet, he isn’t understated or overshadowed, no Bryn is weird!!!

I don’t mean weird in a bad way, he’s quirky and unique and he’s actually incredibly loud in an odd way, I love his strange sense of humour, he’s really dry and witty.

At times I wanted to shout at him, he was indecisive and his actions were hurtful and incredibly frustrating!!!!

I don’t want to talk too much about the women in Bryn’s life but what I will say is that there are loads of them!!!!

At first glance Bryn seems to be the responsible, care giver, and to the Blue Phoenix guys he is, but in the real world he’s actually incredibly immature and almost naive to the realities of the real world.

Personally Bryn doesn’t make me swoon, he makes me want to mother him lol. I wish I could objectify him and just make him a sexy rock star but instead he sort of wheedles his way into your heart. But that means that I couldn’t ever be really angry with him!!! At times with the way he deals with his woman I needed to be angry with him because he was a complete idiot, but instead I found myself sort of going “for goodness sake Bryn” like I do when my kids are being daft!!!

The sex is hot in this book and the connection between Bryn and his lady was intense but also incredibly fragile.

Bryn’s romance is a definite slow burn, but it gets there in the end and it’s worth the wait.

Reverb gets 4 stars from me.

As a fan of Lisa Swallow's Blue Phoenix series, I have been waiting for book 5, Reverb! I can honestly say, this story more than met my expectations. Lisa Swallow's ability to intricately weave her storylines connecting several characters throughout this series continues to amaze me.

I have read snippets about Bryn throughout the other books, but until I read this book, I only knew one side of him. Bryn has been keeping a secret for the past two years. He and his teenage sweetheart have reunited, but she refuses to take their relationship public. In fact, she actually ends things with Bryn because she does not want to live his lifestyle. She wants something permanent, therefore she has moved on with someone else.

Avery is a university student at home for the holidays, working to make money to pay for school. Little does she know, spilling soup at a Rockstar's wedding would change her life as she knows it.

This book is filled with quick wit and banter. Lisa's ability to pull at my heartstrings is unbelievable. I was pulled in from the start and could not put it down! I would love to read more Blue Phoenix stories!

Having read the rest of the Blue Phoenix books to date, I've been really looking forward to this one - and not just because it was about the enigmatic drummer. It's because he's a character I knew very little about. He's the one the other band members call when they're in trouble; he's the one who helps them out and he's the one who doesn't seem to have the traditional rock star issues with substance abuse and a troubled past. Yet trouble had only been waiting in the wings for Bryn...

This is very much Bryn's book. It focusses on him and the future he wants - and the past that he can't leave behind. For a fairly level-headed bloke, trouble sure does like to find him - and he bumbled into it all on his own, with his impulsive ideas that aren't always that well thought out.

It's a book about adults growing up, into the people they intend to be and reaching for a future they'd never considered in their teenage plans. Taking what life throws at you and finding your own path through it, even when the path is far from clear.

I cried, I laughed...and I wanted to read it all over again. Yes, it was that good.

This is the story of the Blue Phoenix drummer, Bryn Hughes, who's just watched all his friends grow up and find beautiful love stories. Bryn's story is handled sensitively and if possible, the reader is even more in love with this gentle giant of a man by the end of this book. His problems make him act out of character but the real Bryn is still in there - he just needs some love to help him grow up and find joy as well. He's worked so hard to be there for his friends, all of whom have messed up in the past, that Bryn has had no time to work out what he wants himself. And when the thing he THINKS he wants gets ripped away from him, his response is to give up entirely on love. Luckily, there's a cute, independent chick waiting in the wings, who has depth and strength as all Swallow's femal leads do. I totally did not see the plot twist coming and was amazed at how well it was resolved when it seemed too late for satisfying closure. Here's to Bryn's happily ever after - we love you Mountain Man!

Reverb is a good. It's Bryn story. Bryn is the drummer of Blue Phoenix. If you have read the other books in the Blue Phoenix series, you know who Byrn is. Byrn has been a mystery to me. I was happy to be able to read what makes Byrn tick in Reverb.

In the beginning of the story we see Byrn getting dumped by Hannah, the girl he thinks is his forever girl. He heads home to find out that Mia has set herself up in his house. I didn't like Mia and hoped that Byrn wouldn't end up with Mia.

Then he meets Avery. I loved Avery. The way Byrn and Avery meet is really funny and one of the best meeting I have read. A relationship between Avery and Bryn is not an easy one. Hannah has some secrets that definitely cause problems. I have to say I was surprised by Hannah's secret.
There are definitely some twists I never saw coming in this book. It's has both funny and serious parts.

I was lucky enough to read Reverb early, and though I had to read in about 3 sessions, I was loathe to put it down each time! I love that Bryn doesn’t turn into an asshole when he gets confused about his feelings. He is a bit insensitive/thoughtless in how he sorts himself out, but he gets there in the end. He’s fun, and sweet and totally hooked for Avery even when he doesn’t fully realise it. Total Bryn fan!

Avery is awesome! It’s cool that she is a mix of OMG Blue Phoenix and then totally unimpressed by Bryn half the time (or at least pretending she is ;)

This is a fun & beautiful story, abound with confused feelings about the reality of relationships.

I recommend you start with Summer Sky and work your way through the Blue Phoenix series. Fantastic characters & gorgeous stories!

Go Team Bryn! (But Jem Jones is still my favourite! ;)

I love Lisa Swallow, and I'm madly in love with the members of Blue Phoenix. Bryn was always such a mystery and I was so eager to finally get to know him. Unfortunately, I feel like this book just scratched the surface. I feel like he's an acquaintance at best, where as I feel like I'm a full-fledged Blue Phoenix family member with the rest of the characters and their significant others. I loved Avery's spunky and witty comebacks, but I don't feel like I really know who she is. The storyline was good but in general was very vague - nevertheless, I'm still a huge fan of the books and the author.

What a beautiful love story, the continuous resistance with ups and downs made for a beautiful story for sexy Blue Phoenix drummer Bryn Hughes and the cute Avery. Just don't call her that, lol. How she kept her distance from this hot rock star is beyond me but she was right, he did have growing and baggage to sort out. The caring band member we all love had so much going on, he didn't know where to start but he liked his Carid from the beginning and never stopped. Lovely story Lisa, I loved it.

The book was written for a drummer of a rock band and an ordinary waitress/student who meet at a wedding when she accidentally spills soup on him. I really like Byrn and I think Avery was a good match. I could not blame her for any of her actions or reactions. There is a lot of difference between the classes and more at stake.

I think Byrn really was honest and forthcoming which despite awful circumstances helped him along.

Good reading!!
