“A NEW REALITY, ALTERING THE ARC OF HUMAN HISTORY…”
Jacques Vallee, a long-time researcher of the UFO phenomenon worldwide and a major proponent of “disclosure,” presents the final volume of his Journals, where he cautions us about the spiritual dangers on the road ahead and warns of shocking revelations still to come.
"Jacques Vallee remains steadfast in his allegiance to the 'real witnesses' who have uniquely encountered the true nature of UAP in all its strangeness and complexity. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a behind-the-scenes, original look at the unfolding of events." -Leslie Kean, author of Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record
"Supremely articulate, exceedingly insightful, and wonderfully human in his powerful personal narrative, Vallee takes us on the last five years of a journey begun in 1956. With reference to his peerless record of research, this book serves as the culmination of an epic UFO odyssey that has revealed a new reality, altering the arc of human history." - Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet, U.S. Navy (ret.), former Under Secretary of Commerce
"Few people have contributed as much to ufology as Jacques Vallee, whether as a field researcher, data collector, theorist, or writer. This book is a poignant capstone and a revelation to our long efforts, a needful guide to research questions and political entanglements. It is also a touching look into the heart and soul of one of the domain's groundbreaking pioneers." - Brenda Denzler, author of The Lure of the Edge
"Extraordinary contribution to the historical record of UFO phenomena in the 21st century. The depth of research and command of background material provide essential context for understanding this complex and often misunderstood topic. It offers scholars and future researchers a critical lens through which to interpret one of the most significant periods in the study of unidentified aerial phenomena." - Diana Walsh Pasulka, University of Northern Carolina, Wilmington
The end of an era. One of the finest minds of our time, with candid takes and captured beauty everywhere, this is not to be missed. I loved spending time in the mind of this great man.
I waited a long time for this one, mostly because I figured it would finally tell me what the godfather of ufology actually thinks is going on (his podcast appearances and public talks are intentionally vague - as are most of his books); for the most part, it delivered.
My copy (like all my JV copies are) is now full of pages that are circled, underlined and annotated all over, increasingly (at points towards the end, frantically) so as the book went on. Vallee shares perspectives I genuinely didn't know he held, plus a number of unexpected facts I won't spoil.
What I will say is that there are a few very precise, surprising tidbits about the "tech," their "occupants," and which biological (or not) species and specimens he believes actually exist, and which ones he doesn't. For a field still drowning in Budd Hopkins, Hynek-era muddied water and modern internet-fueled insanity, having the GOAT serious UFO researcher lay out the pieces he did was well worth the nearly 500 pages. My research plan now has many new forks I didn't have before. His repeated mentioning of his anonymized source ("Gilbert") was of particular interest to me for his supposed contributions to Jacques' own research/understanding (again, sorry, no spoilers).
Why not five stars: Because after all that, Vallee still stops short of a definitive, clear conclusion (as we've all come to expect from him). I understand why he refuses to give one, or perhaps can't, but it was frustrating all the same. That said, any serious researcher who's been paying attention for long enough can read between the lines without much trouble. He gives you many of the pieces but refuses to assemble them for you.
Also, overall, he's still more credulous than I am. I believe 90-95% of this is humans, human tech and the uncomfortable, ugly ways both of those are being used as they always have been in a modern iteration to deceive/control; the 5-10% "residue" genuinely unsettles me. I suspect Vallee would put his percentages of human/non-human far lower on the human-side.
A couple of things worth knowing before you pick it up. As with all of the FS journals...it's a lengthy tome, and it's as much a historical account of the COVID pandemic unfolding in real time as it is a ufology book. And some of the most useful material isn't about the phenomenon at all, it's about the other big names in the field, the ones many of us remain conflicted or undecided on. Reading Vallee's firsthand dealings with them recalibrated several of my opinions. My respect for Dr. Kit Green and Eric Davis went up considerably, my view of Lue Elizondo improved marginally, Hal Puthoff stayed exactly as low as before, and a few others I won't name dropped to varying degrees.
Required reading for the serious researcher (but the serious researcher knew that anyways before my review).
I am so grateful for everything that Dr. Vallee has given to us over his many years of contributing to this field.
Rediscovered this last in the series. An elegy of sorts for the kind of alternative liminal thinkers. Jacques pursued the science, and i didn't know how wide his network was, but at the end of the day I thought his "Invisible College" was the best - not the physics of UFOs but the mechanics of perception of some kind of phenomenon inside the human brain. Thanks Jacques for giving me the perspective I didn't know I needed. Vaya Con Dios.
