This book is a comprehensive overview of a single day in the life of the typical citizen man and woman in Classical Athens, starting in the morning when they wake and carrying on through the afternoon and evening. It discusses numerous general topics like food, clothing, houses, education, transportation, politics, and many more, as well as a variety of interesting, incidental facts, such the Greeks' favourite perfume scents, their methods of removing unwanted body hair, and the fact that men often carried their money in their mouths.

A lot of ground is covered in its short 78 pages. It may be a bit too concise for someone without pre-existing knowledge about the Classical world, leaving them with more questions than it answers. For those already familiar, however, A Day in the Life of Ancient Athens adds great colour to one's understanding and appreciation of the people of Classical Athens.
