Cindy Allen wants to promote her cause, she wants the group she founded to be successful, and most of all she wants to look good doing it. But when she's challenged on national TV, she's forced to confront her fears and step outside the cozy comforts of her home in San Francisco. She heads up to the wild forests of Washington to face her tests, prove herself, and throw it back in her critics faces. But what's lurking in the woods when she gets there could prove deadly.
This is my book. I wrote it after my recent move from California to Washington and it reflects a lot of my own experiences and fears. It's a radical transition to go from the middle of a suburban neighborhood in super sunny Central California to the wild and wet forest of Washington's Olympic Peninsula. The first time you see an owl fly with a seven foot wingspan fly by you, or hear a coyote's laughing bark in the night, you really know that your out in the country, and it's a whole lot different then California. I'm not much into biographies so I fictionalized the story with what I thought was an interesting character and then turned up the fear dial into my worst nightmares and hopefully I've written a horror story you can enjoy reading while peaking out from behind your fingers with all the lights on.
Not my usual genre but I enjoyed the story and the depiction of the environment was right on. I felt like I was in those woods. The emotions of the main character were very well described. I thought the story flowed along smoothly with few chances to catch your breath.
'The Environmentalist' is the tale of Cindy Allen, a campaigner who takes on more than she expects when she is goaded into proving herself and her beliefs.
The story has a great ominous tone right from the start, and the descriptions of where Cindy is really make you feel as if you are right there beside her, feeling what she does, as you read.
There were several terrifying moments and it's hard not to feel bad for the main character as her determination makes her decisions for her. I found myself caught up by both sides of the nature argument, wanting Cindy to succeed while also wanting nature to show its true force.
Overall this is a very suspenseful read and tells a satisfying tale that will keep you captivated until the end. Highly recommended for horror fans!
