Cindy and Jeremiah have been struggling for months to figure out their relationship. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner it’s putting extra pressure on both of them. When the police captain calls in a favor, though, they find themselves undercover at a couples’ retreat talking about their private lives in a very public way. Even as they struggle to find out what happened to a man who went missing from the retreat center they realize that they have come to a decision point. Do they finally go public with the fact that they are dating or do they end things forever?

I thought "finally!" more than once with this book. Cindy comes into her own in this newest edition of the mystery series. And Jeremiah does too. They both confront their fears. What I didn't like, and why this is not a 5, is the new provocative approach. It felt a little like Sandra Dee in Grease who had to stop being innocent to be accepted. I like Cindy as she is. There's a place for provocative, but they're not really there yet. Otherwise, I loved how they were able to work together. And communicate. And catch the bad guy.
Cindy and Jeremiah are going undercover to a marriage retreat. Mark's captain has ordered Mark to get Cindy and Jeremiah to investigate the disappearance of one of the captains friends.
Cindy enlists the help of one of her co-workers to help her shop for a new wardrobe for the trip. Can you take a wild guess as to who that friend is? I was quite surprised!
Cindy's frustration with Jeremiah over not being able to shout to the world about their relationship comes out during counseling. They know they love each other, and they know they are in a relationship, but Jeremiah is not used to letting the world see who he is. Not only are they trying to find a missing man, but they are also discovering things about themselves as individuals and as a couple. Will they be able to work things out or will this assignment prove to be the end of their relationship?
As you can see from my reviews I have devoured these last 3 books in this series. I am now caught up in the series with book 12 coming out tomorrow! I can't wait to see what happens in that one! Of course this one was just as exciting and filled with not just the suspense of the case, but also with Cindy and Jeremiah exploring their feelings for each other and learning how to express those feelings. The mystery was good, but I have to say the couple angle has captured my attention far more than the mysteries. I think there are still many things that are going to come in between this relationship with the main one being that both Cindy and Jeremiah come from such different religious backgrounds. How can a rabbi and a Christian manage to work things out and how will their respective congregations receive the news of their relationship? It will be interesting to see what happens as book 12 comes out tomorrow...oh, I said that already. Can you tell I'm excited about it? I'm definitely a fan of the series and these are definitely going to have a spot on my upcoming Top 15 of 2015!
I've been reading and enjoying The Psalm 23 Mysteries since Book 1. Number 11 - Thou Art With Me - might be the best one yet.
As with the other books in the series, church secretary Cindy and rabbi Jeremiah pair up to solve a murder. In prior books they developed a friendship and then something deeper. This installment is set around Valentine's Day, so it's apt that their relationship evolves even more.
The murder is a serious one, and there's real danger to Cindy and Jeremiah. I loved how Cindy got to have the upper hand in this investigation. Her poker skills were amazing, and had I not already loved her she would've become my favorite character based on that poker game scene alone.
Debbie Viguie is one of the few authors I've read who has a talent for writing a high-quality novel quickly. The dialogue, character depth and authenticity, consistency, and writing technique are TOP NOTCH. Viguie moves the plot along very quickly without sacrificing detail. With this book, and every Psalm 23 Mystery, I am on an amusement park ride that's fast, fun, and life-changing. I remain impressed, and can't wait for Book 12.
I'm sad that this one disappointed me. Then again, I didn't much care for I Will Fear No Evil, either.
The Shadow of Death (book nine) was a roller coaster of amazing feels, and I loved it. I was stoked about Cindy and Jeremiah's mutual confession of their feelings for each other. I hoped that those feels would trickle down into the next two books and we'd see those feelings play out. But, uh...they kinda didn't.
I mean, I Will Fear No Evil - though more entertaining, I thought, than Thou Art With Me - just glossed right over the next three-ish months of their lives and completely ignored everything that happened in Israel. "Well, it happened, but I guess we just won't talk about it!" What?
I guess Thou Art With Me left me feeling...awkward. Cindy was super whiny (and completely unlike herself) and Jeremiah was...well, Jeremiah (a total boss, but, you know, kind of a stone). And all of the, um...saucy clothes? Something in their relationship felt missing, and I couldn't help but feel it was those three months between books nine and ten. I wish we'd gotten to see them play out. But the moment was sort of done and, "Eh, I guess we'll just move on."
(Plus the mystery was boring.)
Oh, well. It was just a shame. And, you know, for two people who are concerned about honoring God in their relationship, they really didn't do that swell of a job here (*cough, cough* Cindy)! Just saying.
I didn't enjoy this as much as I have the others. Perhaps it is because there was such a huge time gap between reading them.. I have skipped the one before this completely because there were so many reviews about how very terrifying it was.
The story seemed to go on and on and then suddenly it was done.
I am glad that Cindy and Jeremiah are working out this relationship. But the main reason I will continue to read this series si to see what the mystery is about Paul (or Not-Paul). Wish the book had had some of the code in it so we could try to be breaking it ourselves.
This was a return to the more light-hearted stories in this series. Jeremiah & Cindy go undercover at a Valentine's Day couples' retreat to catch a murderer. As with the rest, this is hard to put down.
As in some of the others, the title was taken out of context from Psalm 23. In the Bible, this line refers to God. In this book, it refers to romantic relationships.
I would not have asked a youth pastor what Cindy did. I can't imagine asking any of the four youth pastors I have volunteered with this, although I might consider asking their wives. Probably not them either. I suppose I have asked a great deal of some of the youth pastors along different lines, and they have come through, as much as they are able. Some things only God can do, and I get that.
As I'm thinking more on this, I did have a youth pastor, years ago, ask me to help someone else with this issue with different goals. While I started to speak, someone else ended up being the more vocal help. Shrug.
One of the other reviewers felt like Cindy had to quit being innocent in order to be accepted. I did not feel that was the case, although I could see the point. I think she was more "dressing the part" to be undercover in this situation, although she was definitely toying with Jeremiah, too.
I feel a little sorry for Wildeman. I feel like he's facing some sort of unknown crisis or that it is coming. I realize that Cindy was in a hurry and caught up in her own drama, but I feel like she should've tried to draw him out a little more. Surely in all that shopping, they could've talked during the walking between stores or while taking a break.
The retreat counsellor was a little eerie, although the author, having created these characters, knew their inmost workings to be able to write that.
So what do you fear most? And how does that relate to your choice of boyfriend/girlfriend?
Another reviewer wished Debbie Viguie had shown us the code so that we could be working on it too, between books. There's an idea, and I might've played with it, too. But no, the author didn't give us a copy of it.
When Mark's captain calls him into his office, he assumes it and be good. His captain has never really liked him, and after nearly killing a suspect his captain has almost no use for him. So it's to his surprise that his captain wants him to investigate a case off the books using Cindy and Jeremiah, two more people he barely tolerates. His captain makes it clear they owe him and can't say no, even if it does leave them virtually unprotected. A friend of the captain's disappeared while on a retreat and when they checked the resorts records they discover that he supposedly never even checked in. So it's up to Cindy and Jeremiah to infiltrate a couple retreat that's happening that week, going undercover pretending to be there to work on their relationship issues while really trying to find the missing man. While there a bunch of wounds about their relationship are opened and leaves Cindy wondering if she really can make this relationship work. It's up to them to get through the weekend keeping their relationship intact all while staying alive. I did like this book although the ending was my favourite part. There were a couple of spots that seemed unnecessary to the story and then she kind of glossed over a couple of things but it was an enjoyable read
Rabbi Silverman and Cindy are asked to go undercover at a Tribal retreat center by the local police force. A man is missing and the police haven't any jurisdiction on Tribal land. The rub is that Jeremiah and Cindy are scheduled for a 'couples retreat.'
The couple know their love for each other since their last escapade in Israel/Iran. However, Jeremiah has realized the problems a 'mixed' marriage will cause and seems to be pulling back.
Can the crime fighting duo find the missing man? Are there other crimes being committed? Can Jeremiah and Cindy repair their relationship?
All the above questions will be solved in a good solid mystery.
This novel was more a cozy than usual. It was a good departure from the usual action-packed murder. Well written, good dialog, and location was well chosen. I enjoyed this tale.
This was fun, and a great story. I enjoyed reading about Mark and Traci and their lack of sleep with the twins and the fun his co-workers had with it. Loved the ending!!! I won't give it away though.
Needed a copy editor. A 'masseuse' is female, but her character was male, and thus a 'masseur'. Also someone 'employeed' a man? Good story, but those kinds of silly errors make the reader go clunk, thud.
Thou Art with me – Book 11 Psalm 23 mysteries review
Firstly more stars are required on Goodreads rating system, as this book which is the 11th one in the series is fantastic. Thou Art with Me is by Debbie Viguie who is my favourite author, I have currently read everything she has ever written and thoroughly enjoyed all of her novels.
The Psalm 23 Mysteries currently consists of 11 books however they will be 23 in total, following our two main characters Cindy and Jeremiah who find themselves in the middle of a range of different mysteries.
Books 11, where to start – this book was just as good if not better than the others in the series, firstly let’s look at the gorgeous cover which is based during valentine day. Any fan of the series will know we follow 2 main characters as they solve mysteries and save innocent lives, this book is no different. Cindy and Jeremiah are sent under cover to a couple retreats in order to solve the mystery of a man called Malcolm who has disappeared. This mystery proves to be difficult as the couple retreat is on an Indian reservation which is only a few miles from the biggest casino in the state, unlucky for some guests this retreat also provides a gambling addiction retreat. During Cindy and Jeremiah’s time at there they discover staff members are convincing rich clients to participate in big poker games, which have been fixed – this is the reason for poor Malcom’s death. Another problem within this novel is the relationship between Cindy and Jeremiah. Now as all the Psalm fans know these two have been in an awkward relationship since around book 5 (Restoreth My Soul) this book I am afraid to say is no different, however it is also worst! Things have started becoming more and more complicated since finally sharing their feelings in book 9 (The Shadow of Death). I am not going to say much more, but we do receive our lovely start of a new chapter or should I say new book for these two, which of course I am excited about as they both really deserve it. I am not going to say any more regarding this book, as if you have been following and read this series/book great! However if you have not, you really must start with book 1 (The Lord is My Shepherd), take this book review as it is really really good!!!
This series is absolutely fantastic, I love the mystery which keeps you on the edge of your seat I can never put the book down once I have begun reading, finding that I normally finish these books in one sitting, I love the romance which has been building gradually over the past few books and has does not overwhelm you. I also adore the character developments, which you can see from following the books from 1-11 how much change they all have gone through and how relationship dynamic of our main characters alter. Finally, it would not be the same book if it wasn’t for Debbie’s writing style which I think you guys already know now I love. Debbie has a great talent of creating the perfect mysteries, keeping you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole book and most importantly making you want more once you have devoured it. She also makes you feel like your there with these characters aiding them with solving the case. Well done Debbie another fantastic, thrilling book so excited for book 12, now to everyone who has read this review thank you and please go and pick up The Lord is my Shepherd you will not look back.
Big Smile on my face. Jeremiah and Cindy are back,in a couples' retreat on tribal land. Figuring out their relationship while tracking a suspected killer before they are the next victims. Of course, with Jeremiah, is anything REAL, or is it just an act, for show, for anybody who may be watching. What will happen to Cindy's heart? While Cindy's heart is in jeopardy, Detective Mark Walters' sanity is in limbo. Newborn twins, a new break-through about Not-Paul, wondering if Jeremiah is messing up his life for good.
Then there are the references. Watch for Debbie's current TV obsession. How many times can she work the theme in? Her expert maneuvering of the English language kept that smile plastered on my face, unless I was shouting at Jeremiah...the books deserve more than one reading to catch all the hidden nuances!! Love Debbie Viguie!
Another great edition to this series. Read this in day, I couldn't put it down. I was so happy that this book finally gets Jeremiah and Cindy to deal with their feelings. I loved getting both sides of their thinking process. The counsellor was a perfect edition. I felt for Mark the whole way through, so much on his plate and he was feeling it. Hope things get a bit easier for him. I loved the ending and looking forward to see what happens from here out.
Oh, how I enjoyed this newest addition to the Psalm 23 mysteries! Debbie Viguie never fails to deliver a great plot, scintillating character development, a puzzling mystery, and an all-around fun read! I love how she moved along some of the slow-burn stuff in this particular book - very satisfying! Can't wait for the next book to come out!
Wow! What a great book. I'd have to agree with some of the other reviews. This series just gets better and better with this book being the best. Can't wait to read the next instalment.
What a wonderful addition to this series, I loved it and cannot wait to read it again. It made me laugh and cry, I even found myself talking to them. A great read.
