Lily

It was supposed to be an insult. A joke.
Our hockey team sucks. It’s a fact.
When I told them I’d happily do that to all of them if they won, I thought there was no chance in hell I’d ever have to pay up.
I underestimated Cross’s desire to humiliate me—and his vicious skill on the ice when there’s something at stake.
Now I’m on my knees without a top on, and he’s watching me.
I want nothing more than to forget it ever happened. But Cross is one of the kings of Rothford. He makes the rules. And has no intention of letting me go now that he knows what I look like at his mercy, covered in filth.

Cross

For an entire year, I kept my distance. Sure, I watched her, day in and day out, through windows, and there may or may not be a few cameras in her room—for security reasons only. But I was going to leave her alone. I fully intended to keep my obsession under control.
I know what I like, and sweet, nerdy, Lily Trueman isn’t made for the likes of me.
Or so I thought.
Then she said it.
And now? There’s nothing in the world that’ll stop me from owning her.

Team Player is a story for very naughty readers.

The first 66% of the book is boring filler, and since it's a short book to begin with, that was too much filler.

OMG what a great slow burn….

I love the banter between the characters…and I really like the tie ins to the other books in this universe…you can read this as a standalone but it is nice to have read the other books…the only problem is that I want more! I want more of Cross and Lily and the other characters…please let the next book be sooner rather than later!

Started great, I was really enjoying it, then I discovered the MMC actual personality, & the entitled privilege themes of the book👎. Please note this MC isn't part of the inheritance legacies, but is adjacent to them & part of a series full of them.
I do like an antihero, D/s & even an ex-bully, but not any of this elitist macho crap. It's why I don’t read any ‘Secret Society’ & hardly any Mafia (heavily veted 1st now) themed books anymore.
I’d really like to know if the authors of these kinds of themed books, i.e. where MMC(s) are from a privileged family &/or ‘secret society’, intentions are to criticise such elitism or to celebrate it, as something to aspire to? The latter isn’t possible in real life, as the “heritaged” are notoriously closed off to the newly wealthy, i.e. only a few generations of wealth isn’t good enough ‘breeding’.
Usually, the books I’ve read of/with these genres (including this book) don't seem to be against such unjustified privilege. They depict the “untouchable” nature of the group, as in they can do anything they want & get away with everything - yet I get the sense the author wants readers to revel in that freedom, not revile it.
Private education, private healthcare, private ie "gated" communities, etc, are all inherently unfair, favouritism that advantages the wealthy over the average person, a "paywall" - So the wealthy can be separated from the common people & have private security, which allows for almost total immunity/autonomy outside the laws everyone else has to live by. Privatisation should all be illegal, in my opinion. Especially as the "right"-wing politicians have/are actively defunding the public services, to keep the wealthy at the top with control/power over the average person's lives.
These "elite" MMC are usually cold, apathetic a**holes - but incredibly attractive ones. They never get their comeuppance, only the designated “bad guy” (B.G) Villain who didn’t get the message to leave FMC alone after MMC “claimed” her for himself - Yet the MMC is just like the B.G. The MMC would have done nothing if the victim had been someone they didn’t want to sleep with, or wasn’t considered a friend/family - any retaliation is about MMC’s ego, their ownership of someone and punishing those who ignore/challenge them/this, it’s NOT about love in any way.
YA/New Adults shouldn’t be confused about that logic. Or that partners who hurt them physically (without: freely given consent & rules/"safe words" etc), emotionally or pressures them into something they don't want (or are unsure about), that person doesn’t love them enough to not want to hurt them. Don’t think they can help/save these violent/selfish people with forgiveness & love - The aggressive need to truly want to change, & work on themselves first, before being in another relationship.
The thing that really makes me DNF a book immediately, is when the MMC doesn’t leave it to the police to arrest & imprison the B.G/villain, but kills (possibly torturing/tormenting them 1st) the B.G. Not because the villain wouldn’t be arrested, etc, but because the author thinks this proves what a bad*ss the MMC or Hero/Antihero is - but it doesn’t. It shows what a violent, unstable, inhumane, feral animal they are, without any control over themselves. I don't know if this book has that conclusion, I didn't get that far into it.

It’s trash

⭐️ 1 STAR

Oh my GOD. This series is called Train Wrecked, and boy, we have officially fucking derailed.

Nothing happens. NOTHING. I spent basically 90% of this book waiting for the relationship to develop, the plot to kick in, literally ANYTHING and then suddenly we hit the end and she’s sucking off 15 guys, he’s encouraging it, he’s then next day moved her into his house, and apparently I’m supposed to believe these two are madly obsessed with each other??? Then the book ends wtf

WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN???

And whoever is calling this a slow burn is lying to you. A slow burn requires there to actually be a BURN. There is virtually no relationship development between these two. Half the book is just scenes we already saw happening in the background of book one, except now they’re re-explained from this couple’s perspective. That’s it. That’s the buildup.

Then I’m supposed to buy that this man is completely, insanely obsessed with her while simultaneously being like, “Yeah, monogamy? Absolutely not.” And listen, that dynamic could work but you have to actually WRITE THE RELATIONSHIP that makes me understand it. Instead, we go from basically nothing to an established relationship without earning any of it.

I was actually excited for this couple, which makes this so much worse. Book one already wasn’t good I gave it two stars but somehow Team Player feels like even less effort went into it. It genuinely feels like the author said, “Remember those background scenes from the first book? Perfect. Copy, paste, change POV, and we’re done here.”

How do you shit the bed THIS badly with a couple that had potential?

The train has not only wrecked. I would like to be evacuated.

{Contemporary Hockey Academy; M/F; Dual POV; 2-3 sex scenes}

* Novelette: Quick Read
* Voyeurism
* Standard Academy trope

This was a tad bit shorter than I would like, and that’s a rarity for me. While the story didn’t break any new ground, I thoroughly enjoyed it for my afternoon. I was in the mood to get in the mood, and I appreciate that both Lily and Hector were part of the smart crowd.

What made this more interesting for me was the Cosplay element. Lily created her own costumes for everything from Manga to Superheroes to Online Gaming figures, but she kept it as a hobby. As an artist who also had to make the decision not to major in Fine Art, I immediately empathized with her, and Lily’s tendency to game too hard and drink too hard during her first semester. Finding an email notifying her that her scholarship was revoked, she immediately broke into tears.

To her rescue comes Hector, the elite hockey player, scholar, and all-around hottie who secretly ‘stalked’ her just because he was a voyeur. Lily decided to make it a deal rather than a rescue, and then she has to deal with the consequences. Ha ha.

Anyways, there is a build-up of tension leading to some pretty intense scenes (almost public), with a HEA.

Come on May, your leaving me hanging on like 6 more characters story's and 2 other series...

5 star writing and story arch
Only 4 cause personal preference
And I need more books.
Still waiting for the wolf book
And so many more. May gets you invested in characters so you keep coming back looking for them, and finding other series and other universes and more characters you need to know.
Love how Cross wasn't just a doush, jock, preppy, etc.
Mays Characters always have many facets t here character even the villa ns. Still hope to see the cop in this one face consequences as he wasn't trying to help.

to much filler

The books are getting boring because it’s a lot of filler a lot of repeat phrases and no real through a storyline. Where is the older books in the series had more to it if it’s supposed to be just intimate moments then just make it that don’t add filler because it’s boring I really was hoping to enjoy this, but it wasn’t that great.

NO NO NO

What a god awful book. I don’t have a clue what was going on, supposedly he was obsessed with her, but then he shared her with 15 men.

What a complete fiasco I guess that’s what the book was meant when it said train wrecked.

Such a fun short read

A wonderful little read in the heritage universe. I was greedy for more interactions between the two characters, but it was a great "slow burn" build up in a way. If you like sharing thrope it can scratch the itch.

Slightly less good than her other masterpieces. Considering the short size of the book, we spend quite a lot of time dealing with other character’s stories. I wished there was few more chapters following the hockey game. Very little happens prior to the bet

The Deal

Cross meets Lily on her first day at Rothford and is immediately intrigued. His fascination is usually short lived but for some reason Lily keeps his attention. When she makes a bet with him he finally realizes she might just be the woman for him in fun and dirty read.

Not one of my favorites. Although it is a pretty short story, almost half of it feels like filler with them being separated. Then, when they finally get together, there is a long sharing scene with her and all his teammates... but hey, they stay together in the end!

It's was okay

Loved Cross, Lilly was annoying. Nothing really happens between them until the last few pages of the book. Her other books were a lot more spicy

It takes a minute to hit the spice but when you get there it’s spicy. It’s also sweet seeing how much Cross cares for Lily even tho it doesn’t seem to compute for him completely.

I enjoyed Lily and Cross's story. Can't wait for Dez and Markus's story. I hope there will be a story in the future with Liv and Nate.
