Nyxarra has spent her life hidden away in the forests of Aurelith, tending her magical garden, gathering enchanted herbs, and supplying her coven with the rare plants they cannot grow themselves. Far from the politics of the kingdom, the quiet life she's built is all she's ever wanted.
When a summoning spell goes spectacularly wrong, she finds herself responsible for a tiny green dragon that shouldn't exist. As the mysterious creature grows, strange events begin to unfold, pulling Nyxarra from the safety of her cottage and into a journey that will take her across the Kingdom of Aurelith.
With danger lurking around every corner, ancient secrets waiting to be uncovered, and the fate of those she loves hanging in the balance, Nyxarra must decide who she can trust before the darkness consuming Aurelith reaches her doorstep.
There are some books you enjoy, some books you binge, and then there are books that sneak up behind you with a sharpened emotional support dragon and repeatedly stab you directly in the feelings. The Hidden Witch of Aurelith was that book for me.
What starts as an enchanting fantasy about a reclusive witch accidentally acquiring a tiny dragon rapidly unfolds into a magical, adventurous, hilarious and unexpectedly emotional journey that completely consumed my life for several days. The premise alone sold me, because honestly, "witch accidentally summons dragon" is precisely the sort of nonsense I will happily read at 2am while muttering "just one more chapter". Unfortunately for my sleep schedule, every chapter gave me another reason not to put it down.
Nyxarra (do not ask me to pronounce this it’s had many versions in my head) is exactly the sort of protagonist I adore. She is awkward, self-doubting, relatable and genuinely easy to root for. Watching her slowly discover that she is far more important than she believes is incredibly satisfying, and her growth throughout the story feels earned rather than forced.
If you love witches, dragons, ancient magic, found family, slow-burn romance, emotional character growth and fantasy adventures with genuine heart, do yourself a favour and pick this up. I came for the dragon. I stayed for the adventure. I cried because of the characters. And now I'm impatiently waiting for book two like some sort of feral woodland gremlin. Highly recommended.
A lovely fantasy concept with a magical world, an intriguing heroine and plenty of potential for adventure. I love Nyxarra living a quiet, secluded life in the forest, away from the politics of the kingdom, surrounded by her garden and enchanted herbs. Bristle brings a very definite personality to the story, and you become very attached to this little mandrake!! while the developing romance adds another dimension, with some unexpected spice along the way!
As Nyxarra is drawn further into the wider world of Aurelith, the stakes begin to rise, and the ending leaves plenty of questions unanswered. With secrets still to uncover and a cliffhanger setting things up for the next, I can’t wait to see where Nyxarra’s journey takes her next.
I was very lucky to be asked to be one of the first people to read this fantastic book. The genre is not my usual read but when I say it may become so I mean it! The story has me gripped. I felt all of the emotions and got very attached to the characters. I have most definitely been left waiting more! I can not wait for the next book to be released.
I was given this book early from the author as one of there ARC and I’m still thinking about it. The twists and turns. The character development! The magic that completely brings the book to life! I loved everything about this book and I cannot wait for book 2.
I got the absolute joy of reading this as part of the arc read and thoroughly enjoyed it. This is my type of book for sure. Witchy with some romance and some of the best friendships a woman could want. I felt pretty much every emotion with this book and can’t wait for the next in the series as I just want to know what happens next!
