Samantha is relaxing by the lake enjoying the tranquil surroundings with her early morning cup of tea. The retirement village, Sage Gardens, is beautiful and peaceful at that time of the morning. But then Sam makes an unexpected discovery on the shores of the lake just before a Sage Garden’s employee turns up dead. The police arrest the perfect murder suspect, but the ‘Sage Gardens Sleuths’ do not believe he did it. The four retirees are on a mission to uncover the truth.Their investigations lead them directly towards some criminals and puts them in serious danger. Will they be able to find the real murderer before an innocent man spends his life behind bars? Or is the wool being pulled over their eyes and he really is guilty?
The four residents of Sage Gardens solves another one.
In this book, there is both a murder to solve, drugs involved and stealing from the community’s cash fund.
Although both the mystery and drug dealing are solved, the embezzlement never really was looked into that well nor did anyone ever admit to it.
Again it is the gifts of the four residents that allow them to dig deeply and finding evidence the police did not fine. Mainly it is because they had a suspect and so stopped looking for any more evidence or looking for anyone more likely to be the culprit.
I would give this 3 1/2 stars if I could. It is slightly better than 3 but definitely not a 4.
Sage Garden Retirement Village home to a nosy retired journalist, a retired detective, a retired account and an ex-catburglar is the scene of this crime. Mysterious backpack filled with drugs, a dead body, a break-in, bags of cash, a gambler, a loan shark, a wrong arrest and a current police detective with keep the reader busy helping to figure out the real culprit as the four retired resident start their own investigation. Fast paced, intriguing storyline with the crime solving mature sleuths bending rules to free the innocent and bring the guilty to justice.
I definitely like the characters. And Sage Gardens is cool place to live when you're a retired policeman and journalist. It's looking like Sam and Eddy might like each other! Hope so. And their new friend Jo is fitting in fine. Seems like everyone's getting along well. Can't wait to get the next book!!
This book is full of twists and turns. I like that these friends are giving an ex cat burglar a chance to make good. One is an ex cop, one an ex reporter and their friend. Samantha finds a bag in water an is totally surprised by whats inside. They get twisted up in murder, drugs and making a new friend. Very good story full of surprises.
A missing backpack leads to a dead body. The two things were certainly enough to raise the antennae of the retired journalist and detective of Sage Gardens. When the wrong man gets accused of the murder, Samantha has no choice but to go to bat for the poor guy. Once again, you happily trot along with these senior detectives as they look into the mystery. A good read!
I enjoyed this story, in the series of Sage Gardens this stories has of course the four wonderful characters as the first stories in the series. The author has added some new people to the mystery and suspense. A good story to keep you well entertained.
Money Can Be Deadly was a fun cozy mystery. The four main characters are back sticking their noses into situations that are really none of their business. I love how she has them all working together. I'm so happy I choose this series next after reading Dune House. I can't wait to start book 3.
This group of unlikely friends in an upscale retirement home has joined forces to solve another murder mystery... and I love how each of them uses their unique skills to work together and find the killer!
Much like the forest book, the story is kind of all over the place and messy, but the unusual cast of characters makes for a fun perspective on sleuthing.
Probably not as good as the other two books I have read in this series. Character development in the four sleuths lays foundations for more happenings in their retirement village.
There is a lot happening in Money Can Be Deadly. While Samantha is relaxing by the lake, she sees a backpack. When she looks inside, she discovers a brick of cocaine. Before she can show it to Eddy, however, someone has already taken it back. To add to the mystery, Vincent--the Sage Gardens' bus driver is murdered. In order to solve the mysteries and keep Sage Gardens safe, Samantha (retired journalist), Eddy (former detective), and Walt (retired accountant) join forces once again. I continue to enjoy reading about these sleuths. I like that these sleuths live in a retirement community for those 65 years old and older. It's interesting to see how ex-thief- Jo handles her freedom. I am ready for what is in store in book three.

I really enjouyed this book with some great characters and a realy good story line and I love how four very different personalities work together to find out who did the crime. I really enjoyed the descriptions of the people and Sage Gardens. I can almost see myself sitting by the lake with a good book and a cool drink in summer or a nice tea in fall.
Very well written storyline, with developed characters. The main characters are fun to get to know. They each have wonderfully, entertaining personalities. Retired cop, retired investigative journalist, retired account and an ex-catburglar make crime solving their new endeavor.
Money can be deadly sage gardens cozy mystery book 2
This cozy mystery series is growing on me. Sage gardens is a retirement community and home to a nosy group of seniors. This time the communities bus driver has been murdered and the intrepid foursome of Samantha,Eddy,Walt and a very wary Jo start digging into the murder.
I liked this murder mystery but it jumps around logic. Some "leaps" from one conclusion to another. The characters are interesting. On to the next book
Sage Garden books are a pleasure to read. Characters are likable, plots are good. I read this one a few years ago, and it was still a nice read a second time through
