This was such a great book - I really enjoyed getting to know the characters, particularly protagonist Max Charlemagne. The book opens in Hong Kong, where Max is a senior officer in the Financial Regulation Authority. He is just about to put big time criminal and money launderer Fang Li behind bars when something goes wrong. Max ends up back in the UK, as a law lecturer. One of his students asks him a theoretical question: how would he launder 200,000 pounds in 24 hours. Max gives her a theoretical answer but follows her the next day after he sees a nasty looking man seemingly antagonising the student. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. What follows is a true cat and mouse chase where Max gives his students some practical lessons instead of doing everything in a lecture theater. The book is told in alternate sections from the points of view of different characters and I really enjoyed this. I also liked how the author built up tension. I'll definitely be reading more in this series.

This book was absolutely amazing. I don’t normally read books dealing in financial crimes but wow. The twists in this book had me on the edge of my seat. Every piece of information given is placed with reason and will be either referenced or is building up for something bigger. This book was a great read and I encourage you to pick it up and give it a shot, you will not regret it!!
