⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 Denial, book 1 of 3. Suspenseful whirlwind sizzling affair between girl suffering from amnesia & her mysterious savior!

“Sweetheart, if I tie you up, it’s about pleasure, and I’ll be right there giving it to you”

Books in Careless Whispers trilogy should be read in order:
Book 1: Denial
Book 2: Demand
Book 3: Surrender

Denial (book 1) opens up to Ella Ferguson waking up in hospital bed staring into the eyes of a beyond handsome stranger.

“I’ve been called a lot of things, sweetheart, but beautiful isn’t one of them. And this isn’t a dream. How’s your head?”

As it turns out Elle is suffering from amnesia. She has no idea who she is, how she ended up in Italy and why the stranger, treasure hunter and head of The Underground of treasure hunters, Kayden Wilkens, Hawk has made it his mission to protect her.

There is no denying Kayden and Elle’s intense attraction as they fall into a sexual whirlwind affair. But while Elle tries to remember, struggles to make sense of her cryptic flashbacks, runs from the mob, avoids the meddling police she soon starts doubting everyone and everything including herself…

“And with him buried inside me, we are steady, unmoving, savoring the moment as our gazes connect in a collision of raw, dark emotions, one part mine and one part his.”

Eight words to describe Kayden Wilkens, Hawk: charming, commanding, secretive, possessive, enigmatic, intense, aloof and dirty-talker.

Seven words to describe Ella Ferguson: stubborn, resilient, smart, feisty, reflective, strong and impatient.

Denial, told from Elle’s POV, is the suspenseful erotic mystery of Ella figuring out who she is while the world around her proves riddled with villains, danger, deceit, greed, conspiracy and murder.

It’s a stand-alone spin-off series to the Inside Out series. Book 1 ends with a shocker leading right to book 2, Demand for the continuation of their story.

All-consuming plot! Brilliant story-telling! And all the right ingredients for an epic saga!

“You need to know that women and sex have been vices that have served me well.”

***I received an ARC of this book from the publisher, through Netgalley.com, in exchange for honest feedback.***

Recently, I began reading the 'Inside Out' series and the mystery surrounding Ella's disappearance piqued my curiosity. When I saw that Ella had her own series, I couldn't wait to dive in. As I expected, this was a suspenseful and erotic whirlwind of a story.

Ella's story begins with her waking up in a hospital bed, suffering from amnesia. She is told that she's been the victim of a mugging, in which her ID must have been stolen. The only "familiar" person around her is the man who came to her rescue, Kayden.

From the start, Kayden sticks by her side. His controlling, protective demeanor appeals to Ella on a very primal level. Despite his repeated denials, she can't help but feel that they've met before.

Nonetheless, Kayden is the only person that Ella can depend on. She doesn't know who she is, much less who her friends are to call for help. Having a rich, charming man to look after her is a proposition she isn't in any position to refuse.

In no time, Ella finds herself hiding out with Kayden in his castle. He helps her get settled and provides a new identity for Ella. Together, she and Kayden start to piece together the clues about her past.

As her memories begin to resurface, it seems that the likelihood of her attack being random is unlikely. She may not remember much about herself, but it is clear that she's made some dangerous enemies. Somebody is trying to get to her, but she can't remember who they are or why they want her so badly.

The more time Ella spends with Kayden, the harder it is for her to deny their attraction. The sexual tension was thick in the air from the first page and it finally comes to a head. However, just as these two begin to settle into a routine, everything hits the fan.

As this is the first book in the series, I'm not surprised that it ended with a big cliffhanger. I didn't expect for all of my questions to be answered this time around...and they weren't. This book served to entice me further, making me want to jump into the next one. At some point in the near future, I'm sure I'll do just that, but I might wait for the rest of the series to be released before I do.

I feel like I got duped once again. I requested yet another book on Netgalley and happily got approved. Thereafter, the book turns into book one of three with the next book set to release May 2016. I had requested a standalone or what appeared to be. That being said, yes I would have definitely read this book but closer to the second book’s release date. I’m a fan of Lisa Renee Jones but am wise to her mysterious cliffhangers.

description

If you have read book one of The Inside Out Series you may remember Sara’s best friend, Ella. She had set off to Europe to get married to her boyfriend and then Sara lost communication with her. Well this is the story of what happened to Ella Ferguson.

description

The story starts with Ella waking up in a hospital bed in Italy. She’s with her hero, Kayden Wilkens, who saved her life in a dark alleyway. Ella suffers a concussion and Amnesia and Kayden protects her knowing the identity of some of the men that were chasing her. Kayden brings her home to his castle…yep, castle. Kayden is the head of The Underground, these guys treasure hunt, etc. He vows to protect her while she slowly remembers all the events that landed her far from her home in San Francisco.

description

Ella’s memories bring her closer to finding out who she is and what has happened to her. All the while, we are introduced to Kayden’s dangerous world and all of his people. Kayden and Ella fall in love and vow to protect and trust one another. They are pretty steamy in the bedroom and the threats that surround her have Kayden acting very alpha about her.

”You’re mine to lose – not his to take.”

description

Overall this is a good suspenseful read that will have you guessing from the very first page. I’m invested in the series and just hope that I remember enough when May comes around to read on!

”Everything or nothing”

"What could be so bad that I'd rather leave myself behind than face it?"

description

Denial is the first book in the Careless Whispers Series! Additionally, it is my first Lisa Renee Jones read. The blurb was a real attention grabber and I am exceedingly glad that I picked this book up! The questions and the suspense of the "unknown" are what kept me hooked the entire read! Although this is a spin off of Jones' The Inside Out Series, I had no trouble jumping right in!

"Hiding. Running. Vulnerable."

description

description

Ella wakes up in a hospital in Italy. She is injured and scared and yet, she is not alone. Standing by her side is a tall, dark, and powerful man.

"He just stands before me, power and sex wafting off him like a seductive drug that if tried once would surely become a dangerous addiction."

It is Kayden who discovered Ella injured in an alley. And yet, it is truly unknown how or why this man has rooted himself to her side. Only one thing is certain, he is not letting her go. Ella faces a combination of fear and attraction for Kayden. Although she questions her own sanity, she feels secure when she is with him. It is evident that Ella is involved in some suspicious activity. In order to avoid the law and the men that injured her, Kayden takes Ella home with him. His castle offers a reprieve to the madness pounding in Ella's head!

"I don't want to be an obligation."-Ella

"I don't do obligation, sweetheart."-Kayden

description

"Deceit. Danger."

description

"Run. Keep running."

While Kayden wants nothing more than to protect Ella, Ella remains uncertain of her past, her present, and therefore her future! As flashbacks begin to slam down on her, she begins to put the pieces of her life back together. However blurry the pieces are, she begins to trust Kayden and the security of his power!

description

"They keep the past we don't want to forget alive and they remind me of all the reasons I'm bad for you."-Kayden

Kayden is the leader of The Underground. The Underground serves as a rogue brotherhood who live on the edge. Skating in the grey of right and wrong, they have the attention of the law and some other dangerous mafia men. Kayden's wealth and power make him a target for all of them! Kayden and Ella have numerous demons vying for their attention. As the two navigate the murky waters of the unknown, their attraction for one another overcomes everything. Trust is built between the two and the blend of passion, action, and intrigue continues to intensify.

description

"I don't know what this man does to me, but it's undeniably intense. Inhaling, I face him, my eyes meet his, and the air charges, the possibilities between us a live wire that both entices and confuses me."

description

"Let me choose my own sins."

Told in Ella's POV, Denial is an erotic trip down the rabbit hole. The plot is well developed and the tempo is consistently smooth throughout the entire read. The connection between Kayden is Ella is instant and yet, considering the circumstances, it was completely genuine and natural! The secondary characters enhance the plot nicely as the business of The Underground plays a pivotal roll in the driving force of the story. The unknown factor is the most significant presence in this read. Who is the man that hurt Ella? Does Kayden know more than he is admitting? Is Ella really as safe as she thinks she is?

"A need for revenge is rarely logical, but too often it feels like the salve that will heal the wound."

description

"We're both destined to live with the consequences that may follow."

As to be expected in a suspenseful read, Denial ends in a cliffy! I can't say it was horrible because I expected it all along. There are too many questions left to be answered. I look forward to more character development with Kayden. I have no doubt that everything left unsaid will be spoken in the upcoming books in the series! As for the ending, it only makes me more convinced that this is a series I want to invest in.

description

"He is real, the wolf who doesn't bother with the sheep's clothing."

Denial is by far a winning read for Suspense Romance lovers. There is a slight accent of what I like to call "BDSM LIGHT" (so take note my more adventurous friends).

"I will lick you. Bite you. Pinch you. Spank you."

The rich writing, underlying suspense, and sexual undertones coursing throughout the read made this book a must read! I will be anxiously awaiting the next book in the series and I look forward to checking out more from this author!

"My shaky hand unzips my purse and closes around my gun. It's my friend. I'm not sure who else is."

What would you do if you woke up in a hospital room in Italy, staring at beautiful man, with no recollection of who you are, how you got there and who that man is??? That is where Ella finds herself, not knowing who to trust and worse what to do next. Clearly caught up in something far bigger than she can ever fathom, she has to use her gut and go where she feels most safe, or at least as safe as she can be considering the circumstances.
“I want to believe you. But words and a kiss, no matter how beautiful you might be, aren’t enough when I’m fighting for survival.”

“As am I. We’re linked, Ella. I’m right here with you.”

Your mind is a powerful thing, protecting you from the truth and slowly releasing memories to begin to piece together the past. It knows how much to show you, knowing how much you can take, allowing you to process what it all means.
“I don’t need a hero to save my virtue tonight. I need you. So please. Fuck me and then fuck with my head so no one else can. Let me choose my own sins.”

But what if your memory leads you to something you don't wish to see...something you don't want to believe, risking the safety you feel and the truth you hoped to be true.

Denial isn't one I can go in great detail about, it is a book that has to be read to uncover all it's little treasurers. What I can say though is how it reeled me in and held my attention, as I constantly questioned, assumed and thoroughly enjoyed this mystery of a tale. David was such an enigma, there was so much behind him it was hard to tell what his true intentions are, and at times he too seems to be caught off guard with just how much he does feel.

This is told from both David and Elle's POV, but each only divulging on an as need to know basis. The air of mystery added to the sensuality of their acts, making it deliciously erotic. As each day progresses, there is more to Elle than meets the eye and it's only the beginning. I see great things coming from Elle, I may not know much of her past, but it doesn't change who she is now. At this point both their pasts have no home in the present, they are merely facts, it's what they choose to do with those facts that I am most curious for and am excited to see what their future holds. Highly Recommended for sure!

I have not read any books by this author but having read so many glowing reviews on this series and also such a great synopsis, I decided to give it a try.

Denial is the 1st book in Lisa Renee Jones, Careless Whispers Series, which is a spinoff from her Inside Out Series, which I haven't read yet.

A beautiful American woman wakes up in a hospital bed in Rome, Italy with no idea of who she is, to find the most-beautiful-man-in-the-world , who turns out to be the person who saved her from a street mugging.
 photo raw_zpsvejyi62e.gif
Makes it better being saved by beautiful said man/....right!!

She doesn't trust him but there's no one else to help her....so she goes off with him to his fabulous Rome palace.....yes, a palace!!

Now, in this palace live the most unbelievable characters...

Yes, the beautiful man, Kayden Wilkens, turns out to be the head of a secret underground group, named the Underground...he's the leader of treasure hunters!!

Yes, truly!!
Yes, seriously!!!

Not sure exactly what they do!!!! Right, back to the palace inhabitants....there's the housekeeper....sweet and a busybody....another treasure hunter and his demented sister....that's just the beginning...oh yes, lest I forget...there's also an OTT Italian policeman that is out to get the beautiful man aka Kayden Wilkens...and no he's not Italian, he's an American living in Italy!

The main character, Ella Ferguson drove me up the bend with her behaviour!!!
 photo stop-running...no__zpsjjku3lre.gif
I actually questioned why the hero became so so infatuated with someone like her!!!!

What!!!! Does it sound confusing??? Well, I felt something like this by the time I reached half-way thru the story...
 photo 738b0118957c44f7f6a5ce26635aa81c_zpszf9vodgg.gif
I can't explain why I didn't love this story!!! Why it didn't work for me!!! Perhaps I had a problem with the plot........it seemed so far-fetched and unbelievable...and even more so...the characters - I couldn't relate to them.

Now, I'm a sucker for punishment!!! If I wasn't thinking clearly, I would say...no, I am not continuing reading this series...but then...hello, hello......we get to the last page......AND..........
 photo it-ends-in-a-cliffhanger_zpsdg1wc3tp.gif
Yes, that cliffhanger........which leaves me wanting to find out what happens next......and who knows...it may be a better book next!!

Here's hoping so!!

PS...These are my personal feelings and I am not saying that it's a horrible book....just that it didn't quite make it for me.

Title: Denial
Series: Careless Whispers,#1
Author: Lisa Renne Jones
Release date: 24th November, 2015
Cliffhanger: Yes
HEA:

From the first few pages, I found myself completely hooked on the mystery and intrigue Denial had to offer. The blurb promises sultry suspense and Lisa Renee Jones delivers just that.

We are first introduced to our heroine as she rouses in a hospital bed. With no recollection of the events that led to her hospitalisation, her only source of information comes from the stranger standing in her room. The stranger or rather hero, Kayden, is able to fill in some blanks. It appears she was the victim of a mugging.

It soon becomes apparent that the mugging has not only left her at a loss of her possessions but her memory also. With no way to verify who she is, Kayden takes it upon himself to care for her until either some information comes to light about her identity or her memory is restored. I have to admit, I was instantly attracted to Kayden's protectiveness when it came to Ella. The fact she felt a familiarity with him instantly roused my suspicions that there was more afoot than Kayden leads us to believe.

As the plot develops and snippets of Ella's past are revealed, it serves to heighten the suspense that becomes increasingly potent when Kayden's history is added to the mix. Fear and intensity can make for a great segue to sex but along with this, the comfort they sought from each other made their connection feel more genuine to me.

Denial is the first novel in a 3 part series and with a great introduction and cliffhanger, Lisa Renee Jones pretty much guarantees I'll be holding out for more f rom this series.

“There are a lot of things I want to do to you, Ella, but I promise you, killing you isn’t one of them.”

When I was reading this book, the first thing that I thought of was, “This would be an awesome TV show!”. I know Lisa’s Inside Out series is going to be a TV show, but man I hope this one does, too!

Ella Ferguson wakes up in a hospital with no memory prior to waking up that moment and coming face to face with a gorgeous stranger. According to said gorgeous stranger Kayden Wilkens, he helped her when he saw her trying to run away from the most dangerous man in Italy. It is then she realizes that not only does she not know her last name, she’s no longer in America.

Told in Ella’s POV, she has to remember who she is, continue running away from the man chasing her, and decide who to trust. Kayden makes it his business to help her and he welcomes her into his world, but he has his own skeletons in his closet. They both try to fight off the attraction they feel from the start but soon they give in.

I could feel my heart beat speeding up as I was reading Denial. There were a lot of questions I wanted answers to, and since it’s a series, obviously I didn’t get them yet. It made me giddy just thinking about it! Ella has obviously been repressing her memories. With only snippets of her past, I still have no idea who she’s running away from, but I have an idea.

I’m not a huge fan of insta-lust, and Ella and Kayden have it. I’m a bit indifferent with their romance, although it’s hot to read about Kayden as an alpha. He likes to get things his way and has a mysterious vibe to him. His past is just as interesting as Ella’s, and I look forward to reading more about it.

It ends in a huge cliffhanger, but it’s a good thing that this series is finally complete! I (or you, if you choose to read the series) can binge-read!

I pull my gun from my purse and point it at him. “Who are you to me, Kayden? Who am I?”

5 Who Am I Stars

I’m really excited about Denial. The Inside Out series has such a huge impact in the reading world, I like that I’m going into a new series with a blank slate.

You do not need to read the Inside Out series prior to reading Denial (I didn’t). Denial is a spinoff from the Inside Out series and is part of the Careless Whispers series.

From page one, I was instantly hooked. I love Lisa Renee Jone’s writing style and I’m slapping myself in the face for not reading her books for so long! Denial is a suspenseful and mysterious read. You will be asking questions throughout the book and trying to piece everything together.

Ella wakes up in Italy with no memory. She doesn’t know who she is, where she came from or even if she is on vacation or she actually lives in Italy.

I love a good amnesia book and I LOVE the Italy setting. It just makes the story more alluring. No one has come for Ella, but in her hospital room, she meets Kayden. Kayden is the man that found her and has been at her side since.

The thing that got me drawn from the start was the quick pace. Ella wakes up from the hospital and from there; I try to figure out things with her. I really liked this. I liked that I could empathize with Ella and I liked that I didn’t know who was good or bad. Even Kayden was a question to me.

Kayden is rich, powerful and has connections. He knows someone is hunting for Ella and he wants to help her. He’s attracted to her and there’s something about Ella he can’t walk away from. I loved Kayden. I love the damsel in distress storyline and Ella is no wall-flower, but there’s something about Kayden that makes you want him to take care of sick Ella.

Ella doesn’t want to burden Kayden and gives him his out many times, but Kayden refuses to leave her side. I know… swoon right?!

“I was in from the minute you opened your eyes and looked at me in the alleyway; I just didn’t know it yet. So if you think I’m done with you, sweet heart, you’re wrong. I’ve barley gotten started”

Kayden is powerful, but it comes with a price. He has many enemies and even though he wants to protect Ella, he may be putting her in danger way by being with him.

“He just doesn’t want to protect me. He has to protect me.”

“When I said you were safe… I meant from everyone but me”

Ella begins to get flash back memories and even though it doesn’t make sense, she writes everything down. I really liked this too. I felt like the author was giving me just a taste of Ella’s past, but I never fully got the whole memory. It was a chase I was willing to go on!

Denial has everything you are looking for in a romance suspenseful read, with mystery, danger, action, romance and of course twists along the way! I loved it so much, I’m going to read the Inside Out series now.

It was my first book of Lisa Renee Jones and I already know that I have to make time for a previous book by the author. This is a spin-off of the Inside Out series and I'm dying to read it and the next book in this series. Mind blowing amazing! Mrs. Jones, you have a new fan.

About the plot: Ella wakes up at a hospital with no recollection of what had happened to her. Next to her bed is a stranger, who is the only source of information. She realizes that she has lost her memory, or rather displace it, because something bad happened to her. She is a victim of mugging and run away from the Italian Mafia.

Handsome stranger, Kayden is her only help. He tries to help regain her memory and identity. But she is not sure if she could trust him. She has a strong sense of familiarity that attracts her to him. But having no other choice, decides to trust and stay with him. This results in deep chemistry between them.

“There are a lot of things I want to do to you, Ella, but I promise you, killing you isn’t one of them.”

Thread develops with her progressively returning memory and Kayden 's past that haunts him and does not allow to move forward.

Final thoughts: It is high suspense. Ella's snatches and inaccurate recollections cause a large amount of speculation, uncertainty and searching for solutions. It's very addictive and keeps your interest all the time. I feel for her a lot of sympathy and compassion, the girl is completely in the dark looking for her allies, and to this she entangled herself in the hot emotions with someone who can not fully trust.

Also it's easy to be attracted to Kayden, his possessions and protectiveness even though you feel that he is hidding something huge, is irresistible. He is fully alpha male and his job introduces a lot of intense action to the story. The chemistry between the two is significant, even though there's not a lot of sex scenes. It's definitely the topic that just kicks in more sizzling direction. But those scenes that you can read, burn you up for sure.

“The minute you stepped into my room,” he murmurs, nibbling at my neck, “you became mine tonight. Mine to tease. Mine to please. Mine to fuck how I want.”

Magnificently written. I want so much to know what this is all about. It's entertainment at a high level. You have a lot of your own feelings, which change with the passing of the book. To the very end again draw even greater doubt. Lots of questions, concerns, we are not even close to the discovery of the events that happened to Ella and unknown where in all this is Kayden, is fascinating.

I have my suspicions and I can not wait to discover all the secrets. Certainly, it will be one of the most anticipated books in the coming year for me. Highly recommended.

Unexpected greatness. That is exactly what Denial was. From the very beginning I was drawn in and in the end I was left dying for more.

Can you imagine waking up in a foreign country with no recollection of who you are, not even knowing the most basic facts about yourself. That’s exactly what happened to Ella, the heroine, when she woke up in Italy. She was attacked in an alley and left with temporary amnesia. When she wakes up it is to Kayden, the guy who saved her life.

This story seriously took me on such an emotional journey and made me a nervous wreck, in a good way. I read this in one sitting, because I absolutely had to know what happened. Ella is this lost girl and has no idea who she can trust or if she can even trust her own instincts.

Kayden is this beautiful man, who has come to her rescue, but Ella still can’t understand why. As I read the story I loved Kayden, but to be honest I am not even sure of his motives and intentions. That’s my favorite part of Denial. I was completely wrapped up in this story and even days later I am still thinking about it.

I cannot recommend this read enough, if you are a fan of romantic suspense this one is definitely for you! Denial will grab you immediately, have you completely engaged and leave you begging for more. I will be anxiously stalking the sequel to Denial!

Me:
WHERE?!?!?!

If you asked me to describe this book in one word, it would be BORING.
With such a start you actually expect the suspense part, but it never delivers because nothing, I repeat NOTHING, happens in this book. I don't even care that the book is slow paced, but good grief this was simply boring. I literally wanted to DNF after every chapter because I saw this wasn't going anywhere. I couldn't even feel the chemistry between the main characters because those two also bored me to death. Their "dirty talk" was ridiculous. I think I eye-rolled so much I strained a muscle. It's amazing how with such a plot, when you are on the run and have lost your memory and have a sexy rich hunk to help you, you can actually end up being boring. It's like it's all talk and no action.

An enigmatic start to Denial, turns into a twisted web of suspense, founded on lies and betrayal. We start off with a young woman awakening in a hospital room, with a severe concussion, which renders her unable to remember anything. Not even the mysteriously handsome stranger, with the intense blue eyes, that pierces her soul. His aura feels familiar, however, either claims to know the other. He simply came to her aid in an alleyway, where he found her.

Our mystery woman, only vaguely remembers a name, possibly hers, Ella. With this new found knowledge, their is hope for more. However, the frustrations of remembering, mixed with fear and the impact of the concussion, has Ella teetering between consciousness and flashbacks of memories, she isn't even sure is real.

This book kept my adrenaline pumping, running it's course while I rapidly devoured Denial. Mentally analyzing the outcome, and the different possible routes this mystery. Simultaneously, Ella, keeps wondering herself about, Kayden. The mysterious stranger, hell bent on helping and saving her.

“I was in from the minute you opened your eyes and looked at me in the alleyway; I just didn’t know it yet. So if you think I’m done with you, sweet heart, you’re wrong. I’ve barley gotten started”

As the novel progresses, Lisa Renee Jones, gives us bits and pieces of the intended plot. Like Hansel and Gretel, leaving a trail of bred crumbs. All which serves to draw the reader in, and capture their attention, while simultaneously taking them deeper into the plot of deception and lies.

I loved the way Kayden was portrayed. Mysterious, powerful, dangerous, sensuous and determined. An enigmatic stranger with deeper rooted intentions that become know as his pasts mixes with Ella's.

Ella was simply perfect. From the moment she opened her eyes till... she was aptly created and Lisa Renee Jones, managed whole heartedly to keep the ball rolling with Ella's character.

A wonderfully suspenseful start to an epic series.

This book drove me crazy, but in a good way. Ever since I read the Inside Out series, I've wanted to know WTF happened to Ella. I knew she was in Europe and involved with a "bad guy" but beyond that, her predicament was left unclear. So thank you Lisa Renee Jones for clearing things up for me. Kinda.

In the beginning of this book, all I could think of was this one song...

Why? Because in this book we found Ella waking up in a hospital bed... with AMNESIA!! She didn't even know her name. She had no clue how she even ended up there. But she lucked out because when she did wake up, it was to gorgeous and sexy Kayden. Lucky chica!! So there she was, a victim of a "mugging", in a hospital, with amnesia, and she got to wake up to him. Dammit! Why not me???? LOL So Kayden tried to push her to remember something... anything... because they were both still in danger. And then this song came to mind...

Okay, so she finally got her name. Phew!! However, with an embittered detective and a vicious mafia boss out for blood, these two needed to come up with a plan. Kayden quickly took control of the situation and offered Ella not only his help but his protection. Obviously things got heated between them pretty quickly (it is a love story after all) and soon enough, these two became intense and scorching hot. All the while, Kayden was trying to help her to recover her memories.

All in all, LRJ knows how to write great romantic suspense and how to leave us, the readers, clamoring for more!

The book ends on a huge cliffy and I cannot wait to dive into the next one to see what happens!!

A phenomenal addictive and spellbinding read!!!! Lisa Renee Jones continues to bewitch her readers as she delivers a book with such prowess, finesse, and sophistication in her newest release, Denial. Ms. Jones delivers a story that is filled and weaved with so many layers of intrigue, mystery, suspense, and chicanery. With her gorgeous and detailed prose, Ms. Jones takes readers on a suspenseful and mysterious journey of a young woman in Italy, who has no recollection of her identity and past. As readers are immersed into the unraveling of who this young woman is and who is this man that saved her, readers are taken down a rabbit hole where so many questions are left to be answered.

#Denial

Denial is a book that cannot be reviewed properly because I personally believe this book needs to be read, experienced and savored. Readers needs to immersed and feel for the raw characters that Ms. Jones has created especially for Ella, who has no recollection as to why she is in Italy and who she is running away from. Is Ella's life in danger? And who does she have to be afraid of? Should she be afraid of the man named Kayden who says that he is there to protect her? The mystery of Ella's identity and connection to Kayden and the other characters are brilliantly incorporated into this adrenaline and suspenseful read.

Lisa Renee Jones has definitively stamped her literary signature in Denial. She brilliantly weaves a story of romance, suspense, and chicanery into one heart-pounding, tangible, palpable and intriguing tale that will have readers holding onto their breath as we are doused with secrets, lies, and unknown truths. In this fast paced addicting read, Lisa Renee Jones has lured her readers as intricately interweaves a complicated and explosive love story in the backdrops of danger, fourberie, deceit and complicated twist of fates and lives intertwining. What I love about this book is that Ms. Jones has a way of magnetizing her readers with her prose, storyline, and raw characters. As the lives of Ella and Kayden collide, what secrets and truths awaits for Ella? Will Ella be living in denial as to what might be possibly the truth that Kayden might not be the man she suspected to be?

Like any artwork, Lisa Renee Jones paints a bold literary creation that will leave a lasting impression. It is often said to let the work speak for itself and so Ms. Jones will hold you hostage as you are immersed with secrets, romance, pain, heartache, and truths. So if you are looking for a book that is brilliant, smart, sexy, and suspenseful then I highly recommend you to read Denial.

**Please note- This book ends with a mild-cliffhanger.**

Thrillingly seductive and addicting. This fast paced story about a woman with amnesia kept me glued to my seat with its exciting suspense and chemistry that set the pages ablaze.
“The minute you stepped into my room,” he murmurs, nibbling at my neck, “you became mine tonight. Mine to tease. Mine to please...”

Ella wakes up in an Italian hospital room with a beautiful man next to her but without a single clue as to who she is or why she’s there. The only person tethering her to this world is Kayden, the attractive stranger who exudes power and has claimed her as his. He says she was being mugged while running from the mafia and that he has a plan to help them both, giving her just enough for her to believe him above all others including law enforcement. He takes her to his castle while she recovers from her concussion and they work to restore her memory.
“There are a lot of things I want to do to you, Ella, but I promise you, killing you isn’t one of them.”

The more she gets to know about his past and what he does, even when he openly admits it’s not exactly above the law, the more she wants to trust and care for Kayden. As small glimpses of her past trickle into her consciousness, the more determined she is to regain her memory and reclaim herself. But can her delicate relationship with Kayden survive when the truth finally comes out?
“You touch me like you own me.”
“I touch you like a man who wants you.”

Kayden Wilkens has as many secrets as he has enemies, with a past that torments him. Leader of secret group called The Underground. A cluster a people dedicated to “hunt” for anything or anyone for a price. Was it really coincidence that he was at the right place at the right time when Ella was mugged? Why is he so determined to help her?
“I protect what is mine. And you are mine.”

Ella was a wonderful character I really liked. Even though she’s in a very precarious position, not knowing herself or who to trust, she’s a fighter. She’s feels an inexplicable familiarity with Kayden, which both unnerves her and makes her feel secure with him. But regardless, she’s strong and brave and determined to look for a solution to her situation.
"Let me choose my own sins."

Kayden is the kind of hero I relish. He’s a brooding, badass, alpha male with deep dark secrets. You can’t be completely sure you can trust him, but offsetting this is his deep loyalty and protectiveness to those he cares for which makes him totally appealing. And let’s not forget his addictively sexy! Even without knowing him fully, I couldn’t help but fall for him just like Ella.
The attraction and back and forth between Kayden and Ella is electric and while we know there’s a lot more than what meets the eye I can’t help but root for these two to overcome all the obstacles between them and find their way to happiness.
"He just stands before me, power and sex wafting off him like a seductive drug that if tried once would surely become a dangerous addiction."

I loved the very interesting secondary characters revolving around The Underground which made the story richer and who, together with Kayden and Ella, I want to get to know more of.
“I want to believe you. But words and a kiss, no matter how beautiful aren’t enough when I’m fighting for survival.”

Lisa Renee Jones’ writing skill is palpable where even with the scorching chemistry she guides the reader through an intense and gripping plotline in which she raises more questions than gives answers piquing the interest and making me want to get my hands on her next book more than my next breath.
“You’re mine to lose – not his to take.”

This is my first Lisa Renee Jones book. I can’t believe I hadn’t read her before but I will be definitely be making time to read her previous books as well as her upcoming ones.
Denial is book one in the Careless Whispers series by Lisa Renee Jones. Told from the heroine’s point of view that ends with a cliffhanger. This is a spin-off of the Inside Out series.

**Spoilers**

Can't quite put my finger on why this isn't working for me. Why do I feel like the plot is inauthentic and the author is merely pandering?

It's inconceivable-to me- that an amnesiac-American-female would wake up at a hospital in Italy, see a beautiful guy by her bedside, agree to follow him (reluctantly) to his home then sleeps with said guy. All, while having recurring flashbacks of a different sinister male. Hmmm... Why not insist on going to the US Consulate? Why accept the stranger's word as sacrosanct?

This book with the contrived woman-meets-beautiful-guy-then-loses-neurons is a theme which pervades the Contemp-Romance genre. And one of which I'm wary as it never fails to follow a set pattern. The woman pulls away only for her body to betray her and so on. I wish I could tell you Denial was different. Except that would be lying.

Would she have followed said stranger, if he didn't look like this: photo 1iQ4AnYdOP6De_zpsdfczyrcy.gif
But, instead looked liked this?: photo 69f1e4cd-8238-447d-b1a9-30e12d1d8ae2_zpszv6bmxal.png

Hmmm?

Also, not helping was the first person narrative; this plot was simply too complex and involved to allow a single perspective. Particularly one from an unreliable a source as the female protagonist, who has no memory of anything!

**Update**
I stopped reading at 80%.

I really loved the “Inside Out” series from this author and was so happy when I got approved for this ARC!

This is a well written story but it seemed to drag a little. Well ‘drag’ sounds worse than it was… I can’t exactly point out what I missed but I did really enjoy it. I would have loved some more suspense or drama.

As for the story. I really liked the concept of a young woman ‘Ella’ waking up in the hospital with amnesia, after she was found unconscious in an alleyway in Rome by the gorgeous, protective, wealthy, dangerous, cranky, powerful, sexy Kayden! Sounds good huh?? Kayden feels familiar to her but she doesn’t remember anything and he claims they don’t know each other. Why was she in that alleyway? What happened? Who is she running from? What is she doing in Italy? Kayden takes care of her and soon he takes her home. His friend creates a new, safe identity for her. Together they try to help her find out the truth. Small triggers make her remember painful parts of her recent and older past. There are several side characters but who can be trusted and who can’t? She feels safe with Kayden but can she trust him?

Deceit. Lies. Secrets. Danger. Pain. Now the story is finished there are still lots of questions unanswered and new questions to be answered. I’m really looking forward to the next book! I loved this one but I liked the Inside Out series more. Therefor it’ll get 4 stars.

Holy hotness. If I ever want a steaming hot, suspense filled, drama laden read I know I can pick up a Lisa Renee Jones book and be a happy camper.

I'm getting ready for her new book to come out which is the second in this series so I thought I better read part 1. This book is loaded with steamy sex with a delicious, beautiful man, some intrigue, some suspense and so much more I can't even remember. But what I do remember and think about is that I could not put this book down and I ended up reading late into the wee hours.

While I know that this was a two-part book, I was not amused with the cliffhanger. The bouncing back and forth, with memories coming back in from her amnesia, continually keeps you on your toes so you never know what's coming next.

I'm a huge fan of the author and I know each book that I've read by her has always been one to suck me in, tie me up, and leave me begging for more. Sigh... Cannot wait till part 2!

First book of the Careless Whisper trilogy - spin-off of the Inside out series
HEA:
Cheating:
Trigger:

I wanted to read Lise Renee Jones books for a long time. With the upcoming release of Behind close doors and Surrender I couldn't miss the opportunity to review her whole Careless Whisper series.

All I knew before starting Denial was that Ella wakes up in a hospital with memory losses and a beautiful man by her side. From there begin a story of putting the pieces together and connecting the dots trough flashbacks.

The author sure likes to lead her readers in all kind of direction, it's completely addictive and a page turner. Knowing if Ella's feelings can be trusted or if she has it all wrong.
Kayden, the beautiful guy by her side is all kind of mysterious, offering answers but not really. He was complex but fascinating. He claims he wants to protect her but is he really?

"What could be so bad that I’d rather leave myself behind than face it?"

I couldn't put the book down even if I wanted. The more I read , the more I needed answers. I know this series is a spin-off off Lisa Renee Jones Inside Out series but I think I'm good not reading it first. I have no idea who Ella is and her story. I was blind as she is and I discover her just as she is.

The attraction between Ella & Kayden is undeniable. While the dynamic between them is not new in books, it works perfectly with the suspense that follows this book. It's hot and I sure want much more.

“The minute you stepped into my room,” he murmurs, nibbling at my neck, “you became mine tonight. Mine to tease. Mine to please. Mine to fuck how I want.” His breath teases my ear. “Say it.”
“Yes.”
“Mine to fuck how I want,”

You add all the different characters in the mix with a mystery that keep growing and you have an hypnotizing story. I'm jumping right way in Demand.

4.25 "Who am I?" stars

She wakes up in a hospital without a memory after she's been mugged in a darken alleyway.

She wakes up looking at the most intense blue eyes...into the eyes of a man who found her and brought her to safety...

the man who would help her find her life back, find her name, her identity...with her being lost and alone in a foreign country, not speaking the language...totally unfocused, confused and scared.

This man "feels" so familiar to her, she lets him keep her safe, protect her from the "flashbacks" of scattered mental pictures...lingering danger of the recent events...investigation

while they try to put the pieces of it into the whole picture, she is slowly drawn into another world of danger of this man's work, his painful past, his torment scars...

She's gluing the shattered flashbacks of her past/present life, trying to trust blindly to this man, to whom she's attracted to...she remembers bits and facts...

She's Ella, apparently...
He's Kayden, the leader of The Undeground, a section consisted of treasure hunters for the right price...and she's being sucked into his world without finding her own yet...

but she's coping...

until one piece of the puzzle comes to the surfice that will make her doubt...everything!

I really liked this story, it was faced paced mystery/thriller with a twist in the end filled with swoon worthy possesive/protective alpha and a stubborn/naive/sassy heroine...even though the pacing in this case made me slightly hesitant towards their instant "connection" and main hero's "protective/claiming" ways but with the anticipating ending and in search for the answers to the puzzle, I need to read the second book ASAP...

Fantastic book!!! I really don't know from where to start...!
So, this is the story of the girl who wakes up in a hospital and doesn't remember anything after before being attacked. The story starts immediately and it's quite intense. There is lots of mystery, suspense and passion. Lots of emotions! I couldn't breathe everytime Ella was speaking with Kayden and I got chills.

There is also a mystery. I really couldn't figure out who was who. Everytime I was making up my mind about something/someone, everything was changing after a couple of pages. The book has a fast pace and it is nicely written. It is actually written from Ella's POV and it's fantastically done. Her memories are coming back slowly and their timing and structure is just perfect! The book is well-thought!

Ella is a fighter! She doesn't realise it in the beginning but as her memories are coming back, it's becoming obvious.

Kayden is a mystery. I like him. He is powerfull in an unique way. He needs the power but he doesn't asks it, he owns it! I cannot describe it better.

Their interaction is really nicely described in the book

....sexy and exciting, not terrifying. Not about fear and degradation.

The end of the book is amazing! The whole point is the last page! I was happily reading and everything was set in my head when the last page came! A major cliffhanger! I cannot wait for the next book to come out...I need to know what happens next immediately!

I definitely recommend this book to everyone who loves a good mystery and intense romance!

Before you start reading this review and the Careless Whispers Series - you might want to read the whole #InsideOutSeries! Ella's books can totally be read as standalones, BUT you don't really wanna miss reading about Chris & Mark!!! Plus, Ella's story kinda begins in the Inside Out series!

”... two people lost in the stories of our lives, of our pasts. And I swear to God I'll find myself in the end.”

Ok - we all remember Ella, right?

She was Sara's best friend and neighbor, who supposedly had a new boyfriend and went to Europe with him? And that was kinda the last we heard of her. Sara tried to find her, but by the end of the #InsideOutSeries she still didn't know where she was. At least that's what I remember about Ella - and I suffer from #BookAlzheimers! So you might want to check your memories or just read the #InsideOutSeries again to make sure!

DENIAL starts with Ella waking up in a hospital room in Rome, Italy.

At least we assume it's Ella, because she can't remember anything. Not her name, not why she is in Italy, not who the hot Kayden guy at her bedside is - NOTHING!
They tell her she's been mugged the night before.

And mysterious (and verrrry hot) Kayden found her and has stayed by her side ever since - also, he's paying for the private hospital.

WHY?

Is he not really the stranger he claims to be??

And who was she running from? Why hasn't anyone reported her missing?

What will happen to Ella?
Is Kayden one of the bad guys?
Will she remember who she can trust?
Will everybody survive???

description

Or will there be a horrible Cliffhanger?

description

I'm not telling you that, of course!

This is only book #1 of the series, after all ☺!!!!

I was so happy that Lisa decided to write a trilogy for Ella!
We always wondered what happened to her. And now we're one step closer to knowing what happened. ☺

I really enjoyed this book.
The whole mystery about it. You have no idea who the bad guys are. You just hope that the mysterious sexiness that is Kayden, is the good guy. But you kinda know that he hasn't told her everything yet.

I couldn't put it down. You just have to keep reading to find out what is what...but of course you also know that you probably won't find out much by the end of the book - because there are two more in the series!!! Grrrrrrr. ☺

Denial is a very sexy & mysterious & exciting & adorable Romance! #UnPutDownable

I loved that the story is set in Italy - and I can't wait to read how Ella's story will end - how she will fight for her Happy Ever After.

4.5 "Who Am I/Who Can I Trust" Stars!

Lovers of romantic suspense titles with detailed slow reveals will absolutely treasure Denial. Moreover, the heat level of this alpha hero romance is off the charts. This book kept me guessing for most of its pages, and panting through the rest; and it's just the beginning as the full story will only be revealed over the entire trilogy that makes up the Careless Whispers Series.

Additionally, for those of you who are wondering if Denial can be read without the Inside Out Series: yes, it definitely can. Although this trilogy is a spin-off from Ms. Jones' prior successful series, I was able to follow the plot line without any gaps (other than those intended from the suspense angle of this delicious read). All that said, now that I am being exposed to the power of Ms. Jones' intriguing writing, I definitely want to go back and read or listen to the Inside Out Series after I finish this one.

Ella wakes up in a hospital bed in Italy with zero recognition as to how she got there. Even more scary, she doesn't even know her name or if she has any family. All she does know is that she doesn't know Italian (only English) and believes she is an American. Perhaps the only plus--although this raises suspicions of its own--is waking up next to a very attractive and alluring man (Kayden), who claims he saved her from a back alley attack, though he states he didn't know her before, and yet he strangely triggers a spine tingling notion of recognition in Ella. Kayden also claims that their safety is now intertwined, and vows to keep her safe.

As Ella slowly begins to piece together her prior life, one remembered nugget of a memory at a time (which Ms. Jones writes into the book as intermittent flashbacks), she also begins to face dangerous encounters with her past. As attracted as she is to Kayden, she equally starts to question just how smart it is to trust what Kayden states at face value and the actual role that Kayden has played in her past. What is the truth and can there possibly be a HEA under the circumstances?

As previously alluded to, Denial ends in a cliffhanger. I am thoroughly enjoying piecing this romantic suspense title together, bit by bit, and the natural, steamy attraction between Ella and Kayden. Still grappling for possible explanations as to Ella's true past, I can't wait to dive in to reading Book 2, Demand, to hopefully learn some more answers.

4.5 deceptively deep and intriguingly awesome stars! I think Lisa Renee Jones is the queen of confusing yet fascinatingly sexy story lines and is probably the reason I enjoy reading her books so much. This book has many different elements that all come together to throw you up, down, left, right, and up again. The cliffhanger leaves you wanting more and desperately trying to gather your scattered wits.

Kayden is the beautiful man Ella first sees when she opens her eyes in a hospital room with no memory of who she is or how she got to the hospital. Her mind must be shutting out something quite horrible for her to not remember that she is in a foreign country and doesn't speak the language. Ella is able to remember random bits and scenes from her life while Kayden takes care of her. Things get more and more confusing, especially at the end of this book.

Kayden is a sexy man shrouded in mystery and darkness. While he seems to be Ella's savior, there are things that don't quite make sense. For one, Kayden is known as the type of man who just doesn't help another person without some type of gain on his part. Another concerning issue involves the fact that Kayden .

The sex is hot and delicious. Kayden is a complicated mess of gorgeous man, my favorite kind, while Ella is struggling to find herself. The tug between Ella and Kayden is intriguing yet disturbing because at every turn it appears Kayden could actually be someone not good for Ella. I was wrapped up in the novel's world from the first chapter and loved it. I can't wait for the next book!

I have thought long and hard in what to write for my review for Denial. Now I personally would love to be in denial about this book and as I stated above this is going to be an unpopular opinion alert.

Now admittedly I have only read two books by this author so far which as far as I can remember I liked. I haven’t read the Inside Out Trilogy as it just wasn’t for me.

I read this blurb on Netgalley and thought hell yeah this is going to be good. Turns out that it wasn’t that good for me I found the beginning to be interesting and I like the author’s writing style.

Ella has lost her memory and she wakes up in a hospital in Italy with a beautiful man watching over her. He saved her from a mugging gone badly and she has amnesia and can’t remember anything. Kayden saved her but he has his own agenda we just don’t know what yet.

The dynamic of Kayden and Ella was difficult. They were both playing a tug of war which quite frankly irritated me a lot. She doesn’t know who she can trust? But he seems so familiar? And that happened a couple of times. Kayden was I’m a monster bla, bla, bla.

Ella had certain flash backs to her past which disturbed her and on top of that an Italian mobster is after her, well according to Kayden anyway.

I hit the 40 % mark and well nothing happened, nothing so I’ve given up. In the mean time

 photo images_zpshodx7rvp.jpg

Please note that this is my personal opinion and that in the grand scheme of things isn’t relevant to the overall ratings of the book.

Where is the suspense? Where is the apparent darkness of this book? Where is my sanity?

It is ME and not the BOOK.

Hmmm....I'm on the fence with this one. I did enjoy it, yet parts of it kind of made me roll my eyes. Ella wakes up in a hospital, somewhere in Italy. There's a beautiful man near her. She has no memories and has no idea who she is or how she came to be at a hospital suffering from a concussion. The man is protective of Ella. He's filthy rich and lives in a castle. He's taken responsibility for Ella and brings her home to recuperate.

I don't know, some of the things that happened to Ella scream "Red Alert! Danger!" Then there are the shades of grey in Kayden's mannerisms - he's an uber-rich control-freak with a taste for kink. While the sex scenes are promising, they kind of fell flat or faded to black.

The book ends abruptly on a cliff hanger, so if that bothers you, maybe wait for the next book. I'll keep reading because I am curious as to who Ella and Kayden really are.

Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for a review copy of this book.

ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.

What a thrilling start to a new series!

The book had mystery, romance and spicy intrigue that will have you guessing all the way. A woman who wakes up with amnesia. A man who is as mysterious as he is handsome.

When Ella has to trust the stranger who stays by her side after her accident, her life will spiral out of control and Pandora's box will be opened for secrets to come out.

Odd flashbacks, terrifying dreams will lead her to the truth, but is it a truth that she can bear?

Follow Ella and Kayden as they embark on the dangerous adventure of finding her identity. Is Kayden the hero Ella wants to believe that he is or is he involved in her accident and probably her ruin.

The book was fast paced and well written. The author keeps you on your toes and you keep worrying that danger is lurking beneath the stoic exterior of Kayden's calm collectiveness.

The only thing missing, for me at least, was more of a connection between the couple. I felt a bit disconnected from their attraction and I was more invested on finding the truth about Ella's identity. Very curious about the next book.

I recommend it.

I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
'Denial' by Lisa Renee Jones is book one in the "Careless Whispers" series. This is the story of Ella Ferguson and Kayden. This series is said to be a spin off of "Inside Out" by Lisa Renee Jones...which I haven 't read yet. So I thought this was good as a standalone book...now this series does continue the story through two more books for Ella....so be prepared for a cliffhanger.
Ella has awaken with Amnesia in a hospital...but someone is there to 'claim' her. But Ella feels everything is not right and even though you have a very handsome man by your bed side...things just don't seem correct. We take this journey with Ella to finding out what the truth might be.
