“Sweetheart, if I tie you up, it’s about pleasure, and I’ll be right there giving it to you”
“I’ve been called a lot of things, sweetheart, but beautiful isn’t one of them. And this isn’t a dream. How’s your head?”
“And with him buried inside me, we are steady, unmoving, savoring the moment as our gazes connect in a collision of raw, dark emotions, one part mine and one part his.”

“You need to know that women and sex have been vices that have served me well.”

“I want to believe you. But words and a kiss, no matter how beautiful you might be, aren’t enough when I’m fighting for survival.”
“As am I. We’re linked, Ella. I’m right here with you.”

“I don’t need a hero to save my virtue tonight. I need you. So please. Fuck me and then fuck with my head so no one else can. Let me choose my own sins.”

Makes it better being saved by beautiful said man/....right!!![]()
Yes, the beautiful man, Kayden Wilkens, turns out to be the head of a secret underground group, named the Underground...he's the leader of treasure hunters!!![]()
I actually questioned why the hero became so so infatuated with someone like her!!!!![]()
I can't explain why I didn't love this story!!! Why it didn't work for me!!! Perhaps I had a problem with the plot........it seemed so far-fetched and unbelievable...and even more so...the characters - I couldn't relate to them.![]()
Yes, that cliffhanger........which leaves me wanting to find out what happens next......and who knows...it may be a better book next!!![]()

“There are a lot of things I want to do to you, Ella, but I promise you, killing you isn’t one of them.”
I pull my gun from my purse and point it at him. “Who are you to me, Kayden? Who am I?”
“I was in from the minute you opened your eyes and looked at me in the alleyway; I just didn’t know it yet. So if you think I’m done with you, sweet heart, you’re wrong. I’ve barley gotten started”
“He just doesn’t want to protect me. He has to protect me.”
“When I said you were safe… I meant from everyone but me”

**Spoilers**
Can't quite put my finger on why this isn't working for me. Why do I feel like the plot is inauthentic and the author is merely pandering?
It's inconceivable-to me- that an amnesiac-American-female would wake up at a hospital in Italy, see a beautiful guy by her bedside, agree to follow him (reluctantly) to his home then sleeps with said guy. All, while having recurring flashbacks of a different sinister male. Hmmm... Why not insist on going to the US Consulate? Why accept the stranger's word as sacrosanct?
This book with the contrived woman-meets-beautiful-guy-then-loses-neurons is a theme which pervades the Contemp-Romance genre. And one of which I'm wary as it never fails to follow a set pattern. The woman pulls away only for her body to betray her and so on. I wish I could tell you Denial was different. Except that would be lying.
Would she have followed said stranger, if he didn't look like this:
But, instead looked liked this?:
Hmmm?
Also, not helping was the first person narrative; this plot was simply too complex and involved to allow a single perspective. Particularly one from an unreliable a source as the female protagonist, who has no memory of anything!
**Update**
I stopped reading at 80%.
