Take responsibility for your own life and train yourself to become stronger by implementing certain ruels. Some things are indeed hard, but that is not a reason to give up on ..yourself. The greatest project you will ever work on is yourself
“Being brave doesn’t have to involve making dramatic gestures or taking huge risks. Bravery also takes place on an everyday level. It begins with taking little steps outside your comfort zone, strengthening your courage muscles in the process. Bravery takes many forms and can be practiced every day. You can speak your truth from the heart to those you love, even at the risk of it sparking a conflict. Or maybe you can find the courage to address sadness or depression. If you can find the strength for a little bravery, then a fuller and happier life will follow. Actionable advice: Be brave enough to be grateful. It’s easy to forget that it takes courage to be grateful for the life you have. But that means dispensing with self-pity and petty jealousies. Instead, you have to recognize what you’re grateful for. Being grateful is a brave act, and the process will help you realize that everything you need for a successful life has already been given to you. After that, it’s your responsibility to make it happen. No more excuses, no more blaming problems on others. You are the solution.”
Wow! What an intense, inspiring read. I had to break into small pieces, because every morsel made my heart race with adrenalin and motivation. A life changer for sure. Many thanks Margie Warrell.
Courage begets courage and it is a habit. Truly a powerful book on encouraging one to stop playing it safe. No matter how small by doing something brave every day new possibilities are unlocked. One of the most powerful ideas I put into action: grow my "courage muscles" with the 50 everyday acts to thrive in work, love, and life. Karen Briscoe, author "Success in 5 Minutes a Day"
Actions to become braver in life. Being brave does not imply making huge heroic risks, but also with taking steps outside your comfort zone every day. Speaking the truth even at the risk of creating conflict is a great example, or addressing sadness, which will lead to a happier and fuller life.
The essential core of this book (and being Brave) is choosing who you want to be, building the foundation you need to become that person (reflection, vision, values, etc.) and then choosing to be who you are. Speak up when you need to, bring your passion to whatever you do, keep going when things get tough, and start living your dreams.
It's an easy book to pick up and put down as the mood takes you, or to read day by day as a series of challenges. It's not a deep discussion, but it could be the beginning of a journey.
How would making braver choices improve your life?
Bravery is simply acting courageously when you want to stay safe.
Brave is arranged into five parts. You can read the chapters in order or you can pick and choose the topic that meets your needs at the time.
My three favorite parts are…
“Speak Bravely” where Margie Warrell shows you how to have more courageous conversations. Intimacy depends on them.
“Work Passionately” encourages you to overcome your limits at work.
“Dig Deep” teaches you the trait of resiliency. The faster you recover from setbacks the faster you can move toward your goals.
In Brave, Warrell promises to help you become more courageous — if you take action. Does she succeed? I’d say “Yes!”
The chapter “Say no to the good to say yes to the great” hit home for me. For 21 years I’ve worked as a writer. I enjoy it and I’m familiar with it. But my passion is reading.
Reading Brave has inspired me to start a book summary service for high-achieving professionals. I’m saying yes to the great for me.
All of us need to make courageous choices. If you need help to be braver, read Brave.
I just finished reading Margie Warrell’s Brave, and I’m a fan! Brave contains a great mix of practical advice for anyone who’s struggled with that nagging voice telling you you’re not brave enough, good enough, or anything else enough to pursue your dreams or even engage in a conversation with someone. Margie starts the book by outlining 10 Building Blocks for Living Your Life Bravely, then shows how these 10 principles can be applied to your own life, and how they’ve been applied to others’ lives, to lead to a better, braver life.
Throughout the book, Margie follows the idea that if you aren’t as brave as you’d like to be now, you can change! You just need to train your bravery muscles in much the same way that you would improve your memory, or actually improve your muscles.
I’m really impressed with this read, and I would definitely recommend it to friends, family, and anyone who’s ever felt that they wanted to have more courage.
I really loved BRAVE for so many reasons. The main reason is because the book left me inspired and with the confidence to take on any challenge. I enjoyed how Margie presented her tips and tricks for a successful and courageous life. Her 50 acts were easy to digest and possible for everyone. Overall it was an exciting and inspiring read. I would recommend to a friend.
It says a lot of things that are obvious, and the chapters are often very short. It seems to be a collection of ideas worth exploring on their own, but it does provide suggestions as to where to start.
Excellent book! Just what i need to be brave, courageous, bold and confident. One of the BEST book I'd ever read! Recommended!! Many quotes too! Thank you!
