This is the complete set of the Vemreaux Trilogy, including The Way, The Truth and The Lie. In a world not divided by race, creed or color, but by blood type, Blue Anders finds herself on the wrong end of fortune’s mercy. Born with a lesser blood type, Blue is raised in The Way, a work camp for A-bloods.
USA Today bestselling author Mary E. Twomey lives in Michigan with her three adorable children. She enjoys reading, writing, vegetarian cooking, and telling her children fantastic stories about wombats.
While she loves writing fantasy, dystopian, and paranormal tales for her readers, Mary also writes romance under the name Tuesday Embers.
Book 1 was great. Book 2 started out great, but started to get a little annoying. Book 3 mostly annoyed me... Music was banned, but they danced to music at clubs? Blue was told that her brother was coming over, and didn't say a word. A few seconds later he comes in and she completely loses it? (He was abusive and manipulative so he did deserve it) I am not sure if it was the narrator or not, but Blue came across quite whiny in the third book. That said I loved Sam! I also really loved Fredrick. The epilogue was really good and I think may take the book up .5 stars for a total of 3.5
races are not by colour, they are by blood type. the ruling class-the b bloods have enslaved the a bloods and are using the o bloods for their blood. blue is 'the light' destined to save the b bloods (vemreaux) from the tyranny. she and her brothers have the rare original 'vemreaux' eyes, causing blue to really have to hide her face to stay hidden till a plan can be made.
when she is 'discovered', she is bought by her (unknowing) cousin, the son of the emperor of europe. she falls in love with one of his entourage who changes his man-whore ways to be with her.
the twist-is she really the one for the ultimate task?
a little bit a swearing, talk of sex but no actual description of the act, some religion in book 3, a gay character, and importantly--self mutilation for those easily triggered.
the audiobook is worth it, the narrator does excellent male and female voices! highly recommended.
I listened to the entire series in one collection, and would recommend it to anyone who loves dystopian young adult. While there is romance with multiple characters, this is not BDB, for example. Blue, the main character throughout the series, is of what I'll call the "lower class." In a society divided by blood-type, she is born into slavery because of hers. Living her substantive growing years in a work camp producing the new system by which currency is valued ("scratch" in the books and "s bricks" the form used to back currency). But she is not just a slave; she believes she is a prophesied savior of the favored race, the only free blood type - B bloods or Vemreaux. Her journey to fit into the role she believes she was born to is detailed, filled with adventure, fraught with danger, and suffers the occasional emotional drama. Highly Recommended!!!
As a complete collection the books are great. You might have to force your way through the first one but after about 3/4 of the way it gets better. The second and third book are well worth it. It is very important because the author properly introduces the reader into her world. It is nothing like I have ever read before. Completely original and it was great.
