Kate seems to attract all the loosers especially when dating so she decides to try online dating. The date that she has starts off not on a good note and goes downhill, this is where she meets Walker. I liked the suspense, and the steamy scenes were hot. Just wished there was more to the first book. I voluntarily leave a review of this Advanced Readers Copy.
Not my cup of tea. I'd just read a really good book before this so I found this one very frustrating. Brace yourself.
As soon as I saw Kate's age (22) I was worried. Nothing wrong with being 22 obviously but 'new adult' books aren't my thing and too often authors write angsty and immature stories with characters in that age bracket. I found Kate to be superficial and silly. She also has a curvy ass that's apparently a work of art. We're reminded about that a lot so I feel I need to mention it. The story also includes some body shaming for people who aren't blessed with a body like Kate's. Walker is thinking about Kate: 'She wasn't a toothpick, she was a woman: curvy enough, strong enough that she could take him and keep up with him'. So I guess if you're naturally slim you're not a woman.
At one point Kate is almost killed by a car being crashed into a restaurant. Her main concerns? That her outfit and hair and make-up had been ruined. Later she gets locked out of apartment naked when her blanket she had wrapped around herself gets stuck in the door. Haha that old chestnut. Happens to all of us of course...
Further on in the story she's laying naked in bed while Walker is out. She hears a noise and thinks it must be Walker so goes downstairs naked. Never mind that Walker's colleague had earlier walked in announced and caught her and Walker in the shower. Kate gets attacked by someone and the cops arrive (including Walker). Of course everyone sees her naked and we're told again how her breasts are a work of art (a change from her ass I guess).
We're also told constantly how smart Kate is. Walker is often pondering about her complexity and intelligence. I'm sure you'll agree with him after I share this example of Kate's smartness. This is post the naked scene where all the cops arrived and Walker sees Kate's clothes scattered on the floor. Walker: "what did you do, step out of everything and drop them as you walked to your bedroom?" Kate: how had he known? She swallowed, because that was exactly what she'd done. Nothing further, your Honour. Although that's not great for either of them I guess.
I didn't really like the romantic relationship either. I felt Walker chose to kiss Kate before there had been any real build up or chemistry established. And he often kissed her to shut her up. It was basically just a lot of sex and screaming orgasms.
As is often the unrealistic case in these types of books - Kate doesn't have any friends. So naturally Walker will be her entire world.
The blurb sounded intriguing but unfortunately I am majorly regretting buying the collection (books 1-3).

One Night is the first book in the Kate And Walker: Deadly Dangerous & Desired series and it's rather short (2.5 hrs). My husband and I listened to this together and we both enjoyed it however, we have a difference of opinion regarding the narrator, Glenda Johnson.
He liked the narration, me, not so much. I would probably have rated it a 2 but he would give it a 4 so therefore I averaged it to 3. I felt that there were way too many places where the inflections in her voice just didn't fit the words right and I also thought there was too much over-emphasis in a lot of places. I suspect that part of the issue for me is that (with a few exceptions) I prefer listening to a male voice but I tried not to let that influence my opinion for this review.
Regarding the story: I've now listened to a few books by Ms. Eckhart from her The Friessens and The Wilde Brothers series and I enjoyed them. One Night is also pretty good but it has a bit of a cliffhanger ending. Fortunately, I own the ebooks of the remaining two stories so I won't have to wait long to find out more.
It's not exactly a cliffhanger in the sense that no one is left in peril and the main threat seems to be concluded. However, the relationship between Kate and Walker is kind of left hanging so I think you will definitely want to know more after finishing One Night. I plan to continue with this series but maybe not in audio format.
I should also mention that there is more strong language (in particular the F word) in One Night than there was in the other books I've read/listened to. I'm not offended, I mention it so that you aren't caught by surprise since I know this bothers some readers a lot.
I received a free code from the author for this audiobook but this did not influence my review.
A very short, fast paced story. Kate is 22 or 23. I'm not really into NA books, but I am a big fan of this author. In this book, Kate's reaction to almost everything is to be bitchy. She seemed really immature, snarky, and unpleasant. That attitude overwhelmed the fact that she seemed pretty intelligent.
This book threw me completely off guard. I was so surprised Walker behaved the way he did. I was surprised Kate behaved the way she did. Not to mention that she spent a large portion of a very short book either naked or in someone else's clothes. Also, she is in her early twenties, doesn't she have any friends?
The date from hell turned into a journey through crazy town. I'm not even sure if the stalker situation was fully resolved. It left me with unanswered questions. There wasn't a cliffhanger, but it did read like you got part of a book and not the full story.
I really don't know how I feel about this book. I understand there are two more books, but I can't imagine what else they would have to offer. Since this was such a short read, I guess I will forge ahead.
I did not realize that “One Night” was part one of three about the same main characters, Kate and Walker. I don’t normally read these as I prefer the story to have some type of ending for the main characters, although I do enjoy them showing up in the next book in a secondary role. Saying that, I am so glad I did read “One Night” and can’t wait to find out what is next for Kate and Walker. A very active and sexy story when Kate meets Detective Walker Pruett after she is almost killed. The attraction between them sizzles from the very first moment. Walker wants to enjoy the moment with no permanent plans. Kate is looking for a relationship and after this “one night” decides that online dating may not be for her. Romance, humor (loved the character Kruso) and danger make this story an amazing read. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)
One Night (Kate and Walker: Deadly, Dangerous & Desired #1) was a great read by Lorhainne Eckhart. On a night that Kate Sikes will never forget, she is on a blind date that turns deadly. She seems to have it all but continues picking the wrong guys. The man she is on a blind date with has some seriously heavy baggage that causes Kate to run for her life. Detective Walker Pruett comes to Kate's rescue twice. He figures out that the only way to keep her safe from a crazy stalker is to keep her close to him. He is a lone wolf that knows the last thing he's looking for is attachment. But he cant fight the chemistry between him and Kate. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.
Kate works in a hotel on the front desk. She is sick and tired of dating losers so she signs up to an online dating site. When she goes on a first date with Ryder, she meets a gorgeous man with green eyes who helps her up after a fall while entering the restaurant. This is Walker, a detective. A lying date. A smashed-up restaurant. Hot stuff. Very hot stuff. Danger. Lots of danger. And more hot stuff. What a fun ride this was and I loved it. Cannot wait to read the next instalment.
Poor Kate can't catch a break. She makes sure she is spiffed up for her date of a guy she has been emailing. It ends very badly. Turns out the guy has a stalker ex-girlfriend that puts Kate in jeopardy. Thank goodness detective Walker Pruitt happened to be at the same restaurant as Kate. His offer to help Kate is much appreciated if you know what I mean. Narrator Glenda Johnson gave an excellent performance.
A great beginning to Kate & Walker's story. Kate meets Walker when a online date turns into a huge disaster. Walker ends up protecting her from a crazy person. The connection between these two are explosive and when they get together it's hot and steamy. I enjoyed listening to this story and can't wait to hear the rest of their story.
A fast paced, whirlwind start to this series. Poor Kate, her night is filled with one disaster after another and each one gets worse! Though many bad things happen to Kate, I found myself laughing at times. I loved Kate's feisty, mouthy personality. I also loved the way Walker handles Kate and her bitching! The rest of the series promises to be even more delicious!
Pretty good quick read. I lied Kate was wondering how much more was going to happen to her, it just kept adding up and up, bad date, car incident, home issues.. enough to drive anyone nuts. The ending was up to two people who could have done it. Would have liked a HEA ending. Kate deserved that.
Read 23 of the 25, then got side tracked by the spin offs. Children, grandchildren, inlaws, out- laws, friends, neighbors etc. Relationships abound, flaws and lies, hidden escapades all make for intriguing tales.
I strongly dislike books that don't have an end..just a teaser to buy next book. Feels like a con job and RIP-off. The author should be embarrassed and shameful for treating her readers like simpletons.
I recieved this book free and I am voluntarily doing a review. Wow talk about chemistry. ..my phone fogged up lol I absolutely love the the storyline and how the characters are brought together. This is a book u will love with sexy characters and danger around the corner
One Night by Lorhainne Eckhart what can I say other that Wow, this was a action packed short story. I loved it, the chemistry between Kate and Walker was intense. I am so happy I found this new author I am loving her books. I received this book free, and this is my fair and honest review.
I love Ms. Eckhart's books and was thrilled to start this series. Action right off the bat and it doesn't stop the entire book. Looking forward to the next one!!!
I love lorhainne Eckhart's books and was so excited to start this series. So much happening from the beginning and I had this book read in under 1 day because I really could not put it down. So much sexual tension between Kate and Walker and the drama in the background was just the tip of the iceberg to what was actually happening. Poor Kate seems like she's always choosing the wrong man and because of this almost gets herself killed by a crazy ex stalker but Walker is there to help her out and protect her. I was not happy with the ending at all but I hope that will be rectified in the next 2 books. Once again, another great book by Lorhainne Eckhart.
I received an arc copy and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Having enjoyed the Friessen series by author Lorhainne Eckhart, I was happy to see her kick off a new series. This one features Kate who has a history of picking out bad boyfriends. Her latest attempt, however, is an unbelievably bad pick! Not only is he a liar and a cheat, he also comes with his own stalker who quickly latches onto Kate and proceeds to torment her. Enter our hero, Walker, a detective that is supposed to be protecting the victim. Not sure the police department defines protection quite the way Walker does. This was a fun read and I look forward to seeing more of Kate and Walker.
Kate Sikes is determined to meet the man of her dreams, despite having the worst luck when it comes to picking men. While she is on yet another disastrous first date, she encounters Detective Walker Pruett and he saves her from a dangerous situation. Walker is a lone wolf that doesn't do relationships, but their sexual chemistry is hard for Kate to ignore. Although this is a short story, I feel that I was able to get to know Kate and Walker. I look forward to reading the next in the series to see if Walker will be more than just another one of Kate's mistakes.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I've read by Lorhainne and I loved it. I loved Kate and Walker the main characters in the book. They were both such likeable characters. There was romance, action, and suspense that made this an enjoyable read.
I enjoyed this short novella. It is worthy read. Full of romance and suspense. The characters are full of emotion in the style that only Eckhart can create.
I recommend this to lover's of romantic suspense .
