SuperCakes

Rate this book
What’s harder than fighting robot aliens and ice monsters? Being in a relationship! SuperCakes follows May and Molly as they learn to live together while still being on-call to battle the next baddie that’s ravaging their city. Kat Leyh’s SuperCakes touches on topics most “capes and tights” comics wouldn’t even fly near.

"Kat's comics shine with wit, sincerity, and warmth — a welcome fresh take on the superhero genre."
– Noelle Stevenson (Eisner-winning writer of Lumberjanes and creator of Nimona)

Great art that manages to tell a story over a few short pages.
Love these super-powered characters and hope there'll be more of them.

I read online - here but would love to get the hard-copy - if only p&p to the uk wasn't more than the comic itself!

Short little vignettes, but so much character.

Definitely adorable. Read this as a webcomic on Leyh's site, and I love it. The art is amazing, and the characters are friggen cute. The story is slowly evolving, as you read on, so it's an interesting one. I pretty much recommend it.
I've read the other stories too, and I definitely would love to purchase a full colour comic book with all the pages included<3 that would be perfect.

Vigilante lesbian superheroes, one with legit mommy issues.
Gotta love it.
Gotta f***ing love it, man.

I saw SuperCakes on the 'new releases' board here on Goodreads in the comics section, and a reviewer had linked to the webcomic, so I read the whole thing in about twenty minutes.

I loved May's family, from the gay uncles to the mutant adopted cousins.
The powers they have are amazing the costumes they wear are pretty Kick-Ass (as in Mark Millar).
I want to learn more about Molly, I sincerely hope Ms. Leyh gets to continue the comic.
I'll be checking the site regularly.

This seems to be a situation where the hard copy doesn't have any more to offer than the web version, so I doubt i'll be buying it, but if the author were to release an omnibus edition with, like, variant covers and stuff, my comic nerd brain would probably let me spend the money on it.

Supercakes isn’t your average superhero fare in many ways. For starters, it’s a look at what life is like for a superhero outside of the hero-ing. But there’s also the format of the comic itself. There is no overarching narrative to May and Molly’s story. Instead, both the unique and the mundane aspects of their life are spotlighted through a series of vignettes, the majority of which are short and sweet. They’re charming enough, but on their own don’t leave a strong impression. The Supercakes Kat Leyh Yeti Press 2015strength of this collection is how they work together.

Wonderful webcomic about superhero girlfriends. The series of short stories are less about their superhero-ing, though there's plenty of that, and more about their personalities and their personal lives together. My favorite is "Welcome to the Family". I look forward to more!

The printed book contains five short stories, which is the entire comic to date. They're all available online, starting with "Pancakes".

I love Supercakes and have for a long time. It was wonderful to see all of Kat Leyh's pieces in one book, and I really, really hope she gets to continue it. Amazing characters, development, and art.
