Who is SAC Nathan Ward?

Luka does it again, another 5☆ read. Who is SAC Nathan Ward, how did he become a Cryptid hunter an APEX Jaeger, and found the FBI's Cryptid investigations team? Well, the answers are all here in Before & After.
Combining fiction with Cryptid research findings, Luka's books take on an air of realism, that anyone into cryptozoology will instantly recognise. An informative prequel to the Nicole Beretti series.

My scoring system

⭐ Don't quit your day job

⭐⭐ It was tough to finish

⭐⭐⭐ A solid read

⭐⭐⭐⭐ That was fun!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I need more. If you don't give it, I'm going to kidnap you Misery-style, without shattering your ankles, of course.

We've all seen glimpses of the Nathan Ward in the Nicole Beretti-series, but he remained a character we knew very little about. Stoic, not unkind, professional, but largely unknown...until now.

Luka Jacobs has written another treasure with a fantastic backstory, properly introducing us to this character and how he ended up in his current position. The story takes place a bit over two decades ago, which - apart from a nice blast from the past - gives us a wonderful insight into the life of Nathan Ward. Recently discharged from the army in his mid-twenties, Nathan returns to his home town and soon finds out there are things that go bump in the night.

We get to see his life evolving, joining the FBI and laying the foundations of the unit we've all come to know and love.

Part of me wanted more, but the story gave a good insight into his background and had a perfect conclusion. Some more of the older case files might be a fun route to explore, I mean, we all know Luka Jacobs has no shortage of ideas or energy, and I'd actually like to know what happened with certain characters. On the other hand, as said, the story fits perfectly and was a blast to read.

Pure enjoyment. I love her books, just checks all my boxes to make a great story. I loved Nathan’s background .. really interested to see if she’ll write about any of the other cases he did (with some new monsters) that were before Nichole.

Exceptionally Good

I loved this story right from the start. Nathan is actually more down to earth than I thought he would be. Nathan's story was so well written and showed just how human and kind he really is. This whole series, Nicole Beretti, and now Nathan's story revealed, makes me want more. Are we going to get the history of Jacobi next? That would be cool. Thank you, Luka, for such a thrill ride. Your writing and style are amazing. Please keep them coming. Stay well.

Page Turner!

A great book you don't want to put down! Luka has a way of making her characters come to life on the page. The story pulls you in from the very first page. This book is one of my favorites so far! Thanks so much for the adventures!

Nathan Ward has returned to his grandfather's house after his enlistment is up. He inherited the house. Between fixing it up he goes hunting with an old friend. They encounter something in the woods that can't explain. Nathan is determined to figure out what happened. This is the story behind the Apex Jeagers FBI unit.

Nice prequel background story

Well written. Gave some insight to how it all came together. I liked that it was longer too. I think you do a great job, I just like it when the books are longer. I don’t want the story to end.

Story of how the APEX Jeagers began. Nathan Ward and his best friend Gabe go deer hunting in Washington state they encounter a Sasquatch which shakes both up. Gabe runs to Seattle to get as far away as possible. Nate's journey leads him to the FBI.

Just what one would expect from a good book

Wish more would have been more on his cases than was in the book. Overall I think it was well written to explain his environment and how it affected him personally.

Another good one

You can't help but feel that cryptids are really after reading this book. My guess is that Ms Jacobs does too. The way she writes about them, it's like she manifests herself through the MC.

Awesome intro to Nathan ward

A great story telling how and why Nathan Ward became the founder of Apex Jaegers. Plenty of suspense. All tied together nicely at the end.

This was a breath of fresh air in Jacobs writing. It changed the formula and provided a background to an often mentioned character.
