Juniper View #1

Under Juniper Skies

Rate this book
I’m here to start a new life, not fall for the handsome, grumpy single dad sheriff.

When I left my old life for a fresh start in a small mountain town, I didn’t expect to begin the new chapter with a run-in with the hot, growly local sheriff. I’ve had enough of beautiful men setting fire to my life, thanks very much. While I try to settle in, slim housing options result in me living above said sheriff’s garage. Perfect. I’ll keep my head down and stay out of his way—not easy when we’re living side by side. He’s suspicious of me and, frankly, rude despite his reputation as a war hero and doting single dad. I can’t reconcile the man I’ve met with the stories I keep hearing around town about how generous and kind he is. Until he apologizes and changes everything. He still sticks his foot in his mouth, but he’s good-hearted and he’s giving me something I’ve been chasing—a safe place.

I could resist him when he was judging me and needlessly gruff, but I’m not sure I can keep my distance when he’s being more than neighborly. He helps me find my wayward cat, then invites me for cocoa with his daughters, and before I know it I’m seeing past the badge and right to the heart of him. This fresh start is taking an unexpected turn. After so long living in the smog of my old life, I’m finally breathing deep in these clear mountain skies… until I’m reminded why I ran in the first place.

Is there anything better than a Claire Cain novel?
Under Juniper Skies is book 1 in her newest series and I'm here for it all. The small town, the secondary characters (aka RYAN family who I can't wait to read all of their stories), the main characters, and the hero's daughters. I loved the book from page one until the epilogue and devoured this read in one sitting. I'll definitely reread because there were some great moments I didn't highlight because I was too engrossed to highlight. This was the perfect read for the perfect time (I needed an escape).

4.5⭐️ I can’t believe this was my first book by Claire Cain! I really love the entire cast of characters and am excited to continue with this series and also to go back and read more of her backlist! There was the perfect blend of sweet and emotional and the mmc was so patient with the fmc after what she had been through in her past! Loved this book, and the audiobook was fantastic as well!

While on the run from an abusive husband in LA, Sam pulls over to change her bad tire in the middle of nowhere and Sheriff Grant Ryan pulls up behind her to try and help her. But Sam is a woman on high alert and weary of any man who comes her way, so while he doesn't leave her alone on the road, she makes sure she changes the tire without his help and goes on her way. She finds herself in Juniper View and looks to try and rebuild her new life in this small quaint town. When she realizes just how small the town is and the Sherrif she's been avoiding suddenly becomes her landlord, it forces her to embrace even more change sooner than she was expecting.
Something about Sam has stuck with Grant since the night he met her and as the county Sheriff and a single dad to two girls, he has enough on his place to contend with. When Sam is everywhere he turns and his entire family starts to welcome and embrace Sam with open arms into the Ryan fold, Grant is left with no other choice but to give into his feelings for her. But Sam's past catches up with her and when Grant realizes what she is running from he will do whatever he can to keep her safe while still giving her the space to continue to be resilient and lift herself up from the horror she escaped. Sam is resilient woman and the story is beautifully written showing her struggle and triumph as she navigates rediscovering herself so that she can be ready to embrace the love and life she finds in Juniper View.
A refreshing change diving into a romance that is fade to black and gives you all the buildup and tension to propels their relationship without depicting any spice. This was such a seamless read that kept me entertained the entire time and I am excited for the next book in the series. If you love authors like Sarah Adams, then Claire Cain is a great indie author to support!
Avery Caris and Jarman Day were fantastic on this title. Two talented and underrated performers that deserve all the hype, they definitely delivered on this one!

I devoured this one as fast as my ears could listen. Not only is this a sweet and wonderful story, but the narrators were fantastic. Juniper Skies is the type of small town that would be easy to live and love in, even with meddling friends and family, adorable daughters, a mischievous cat, and all the unexpected turns.

Sam is ready to start over and has the cutest meet-cute with Grant, the local single dad sheriff. All of the misconceptions and suspicions had me laughing and swooning, especially once things took a few twists. I could visualize the plot and loved the swirls of chemistry as they mixed with the pull of attraction, small town vibes, and the natural progression of two people getting to know one another.

This is sure to be an amazing series and I was smitten with these characters.

⚠️mild+ romance/innuendo; low spice; mild language

UNDER JUNIPER SKIES
By CLAIRE CAIN
Narrated by Avery Caris, Jarman Day
out now!

Seeking a fresh start in a quiet mountain town, she never expected to clash with the town’s grumpy, handsome single dad sheriff. After housing leaves her living above his garage, the two are forced into close quarters. As his rough exterior gives way to a kind heart, she begins to feel safe for the first time in years. But just as she’s ready to embrace her new life and maybe even love. But then… the past she tried to escape catches up with her.

My thoughts 💭:

This was 100% an audiobook listen and it was exactly what I needed! It was swoony, cozy, and the perfect start to a new series. Both narrators did an incredible job. I stayed invested and finished the audiobook in just two sittings. The characters were lovable and felt like the kind of people you’d want in your own life. I loved watching Sam find the fresh start she deserved, and it was impossible not to fall for Grant and his family. The bonus epilogue was a fun surprise and left me even more excited for book two! If you’re looking for a heartwarming small town romance with lovable characters and plenty of swoon, I definitely recommend picking this one up!

I loved Sam and Grant's story, full of so many tender moments, and found family.

This was a slow burn in the first half, Sam being new to Juniper View and on a run from her past life. Is hesitant to trust Grant and the towns citizens. I loved watching her gain her confidence and self-esteem back. Her journey to discovering herself was inspiring and real.

Grant is a grump, at first, he is fiercely protective of his little girls and his family. Adding the stress of being the town sheriff, he takes on too much guilt and worries. I love how Sam slowly shows him how to let go of the need to control and worries he loves to hold on to.

Their growing relationship was tentative at first, full of uncertainty and trepidation. But once they made the choice to be together it was pure chemistry. So many tender and loving moments, but also vulnerable ones. There is a slight suspense element that is wrapped up pretty neatly and fell flat for me.

However, I will always recommend Claire Cain and if you are new to her wonderful writing, start with the Veterans of Silver Ridge series. You will not be disappointed.

🔥 Heat level: Fade-to-black, heavy make outs
🫢 Language: mild language used throughout

Under Juniper Skies by Claire Cain

Narrated in dual style by Avery Caris and Jarman Day.

This was such a breath of fresh air. A sweet, slow-burn, fade-to-black small-town romance that I absolutely devoured.
Sometimes it's nice to take a break from all the dark and spicy romances, and this was exactly what I needed. The story was heartfelt, emotional, and beautifully paced, with characters I couldn't help but root for.

🎧 The narration was excellent. Avery Caris and Jarman Day did such a wonderful job bringing these characters to life. Avery really excelled at portraying a heroine who is on the run after past trauma and struggling to trust people again. You could hear every bit of her vulnerability and emotional growth.
Jarman Day was the perfect protective MMC. He brought such warmth, patience, and quiet strength to the role, making the slow-burn romance feel incredibly genuine.

If you're looking for a comforting, emotional romance with a protective hero and all the small-town charm, I definitely recommend this one.

I can't stop thinking about these wonderful characters! Listening to the audiobook brought it to life even more, with the narrators doing a spectacular job with the voices.

Grant and Sam felt so real, with past struggles that impacted the way they reacted to things. Grant showed what a strong and caring person he actually was in the way he loved his girls, but also in the way he was willing to apologize and make things right with Sam after a rocky beginning. And I loved seeing the way Sam was able to begin really living her life in the town and with the people of Juniper View.

The romance between these two was slow building and beautiful. I am really looking forward to more books about Grant's siblings.

I received a complimentary copy of this audio book. All opinions are my own.

This book took me awhile to get into. I’m sure that it being a first in a series didn’t help because everyone and everything has to be introduced. I really like all of the characters though so that’s promising!

Grant and Sam had great chemistry and once he expressed interest, they had lots of moments full of it so that was fun. Their interactions were swoony, not forced or icky. I honestly liked Grant as an MMC a lot. He communicated well and was respectful, but actually thinks, speaks and processes like a man, which can sometimes be tough when MMCs are written by women. Also, the way he became a Dad to his two girls is so bittersweet and the way he wholeheartedly loves them is so adorable. Anyway, I enjoyed this and will read the rest in the series. Excited for Evie’s book!

I really enjoyed this story and it was my first by the author. I though the narrators were fantastic and did a wonderful job. They were pleasant to listen and I thought brought the characters to live really well.

Sam and Grant were great and I loved the progression of their relationship and how it grew naturally, with a little meddling from the side characters! There were so many mysterious layers to both MCs and I really enjoyed seeing their character development throughout. It was well written and thought out. The plot was super interesting as well and definitely pulled at the heartstrings without being too heavy. I thought their pasts played into their story so well and the romance was sweet and deep. I loved seeing Sam and Grant figure each other out. They had this draw to each other that was magnetic.

The side characters were wonderful. And I loved Grant's girls and the comedic moments they provided. And Grant's family was fantastic. I loved Sam's relationship with Evie and how both women bonded over their shared experiences. This one had great small town vibes!

I can't wait to read the next book and know its going to be a great one! The author set up their story so well!

I listened to this audiobook this past weekend (enjoyable narration from Avery Caris and Jarman Day!) and it made me want to go for a visit to small town Rocky Mountains. I love when a setting plays such a great backdrop to any story.
Sam leaves California ready to restart her life with not a lot between her and a dirty motel room. But the welcome from Juniper residents has her quickly filled with hope that it'll all work out until she discovers that her new landlord is none other than the off-putting sheriff she just met on the side of the road with a flat tire.
I love small town shenanigans and the whole cast is pretty endearing. I especially loved the way no one is a stranger and how much the town jumped in to give Sam a fresh start.
Thanks @clairecainwriter & @bookedwiththeemilys for the alc! All thoughts are my own.

I finished this audiobook of Claire Cain’s latest series. It is out now. It is also available on KU. This book is the start of another series for her. This is book one in the Juniper View series.

This is my first Claire Cain book and I definitely now want to keep reading to see what happens next in the series. She set up the series so well. You have a local sheriff with protector vibes and a woman escaping her past and starting new in a small town. Grant is a single dad of two sweet girls. He has a hard time accepting help and new people, but once you’re in his circle, you are his to protect. Sam has had a past that she wants to get away from and she has chosen a small town in Utah to settle into. She gets a job as a waitress and starts making friends and a new name for herself. However, her past keeps knocking on the door.

This was an easy read and like I said left you with an epilogue that hints to the next book. This was perfect!

Thank you Booked with the Emilys and Claire Cain for the gifted copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

Juniper View feels like a place where you’d want to live yourself: the warm village community, close family ties and loving friendships make it a place you’ll want to keep coming back to. An ideal start to a series I’d say!

Sam carries the consequences of her past with her every day. The book portrays honestly how trauma lingers and the courage it takes to trust someone again.

The romance develops naturally: from an awkward first meeting to becoming neighbors, a lot of small moments with hot chocolate and a stray cat, and feelings that grow gradually. Nothing feels rushed: there are good days and bad days. Grant doesn’t expect Sam to forget her past, and Sam doesn’t expect Grant to leave all his scars behind. They simply learn to move forward together.

Grant is a man of few words but many actions. He doesn’t constantly talk about his feelings, yet he shows in everything he does that Sam is safe with him.

I highly recommend the audiobook version! Jarman Day perfectly captures Grant’s stoic and steady nature. Avery Caris draws you into Sam’s world conveying her reliability and caution, as well as her growth toward trust and freedom. Their warm narration brought the book’s atmosphere to life and made me reluctant to say goodbye to Juniper View… Fortunately the second book has already been announced, so the countdown is on!

This was such an enjoyable small town romance about a woman who has been through hell, is recently divorced, and wants to start fresh but still has her guard up. Alongside her is a grumpy sheriff who is drawn to the new resident in town but also curious about what she’s hiding.

Sam is so beautiful, and I love that she got the chance to start over. There was also a little bit of suspense in this story due to her ex husband which kept me gripped. When she opened up and shared her story, I really felt for her because no one deserves to be treated that way. She is so strong, and I understood why she was cautious around men and reluctant to reveal too much because of her fear.

Grant, understandably, given his line of work and his past in the military, is trying to figure Sam out. He notices the way she reacts to him and knows she has been through something. Over time, the way he makes her feel safe and comfortable absolutely melted me. The way this man stepped into a father role with his girls was beautiful, and Sam was so warmly welcomed into Grant’s family. His parents are kind and loving, and the whole family is such a joy to read about. I also wanted to mention that this has fade to black spice which I really didn’t mind.

I highly recommend the audiobook. It’s done in dual narration, and Avery and Jarman did a brilliant job. It also featured Ryan, who will be playing Declan in the next book, which I’m so excited for.

This was my first experience with Claire’s work, and I loved it. I’m looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.

I love Claire Cain’s writing, so I was beyond thrilled to find out her newest series, Juniper View, was going to be available on audio. I had the pleasure of receiving an ALC of Under Juniper Skies and couldn’t listen fast enough.

I loved Grant and Sam’s story! Claire writes characters who are real and relatable, and these two are no different. Sheriff Grant Ryan is gruff, guarded, and protective, which leads to some interesting first interactions between him and Sam. Sam’s history has made her wary of bossy, controlling men, but luckily for her, Grant is gentle, tender, and patient beneath his rough exterior. While there was physical attraction right off the bat, I loved watching both of their walls come down as they grew closer.

Other things I loved:
💚 Open and honest communication
💚 The entire Ryan family
💚 Grant and his girls
💚 Sam’s friendships with May and Evie
💚 Glimpses of Veterans of Silver Ridge favorites
💚 Sam’s strength
💚 Grant’s patience and respect for Sam’s boundaries
💚 Mild suspense elements

Avery Caris and Jarman Day did a wonderful job narrating. They conveyed the different emotions so well, bringing the story to life. The production was well done, and I’m already looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.

If you like protective veterans, strong-willed FMCs, fun family dynamics, small-town vibes, and sizzling chemistry without the spice, add this one to your TBR!

Fabulous Story & Narration🎧Engrossing & Heartwarming!

Under Juniper Skies
Juniper View, Book 1
By: Claire Cain
Narrated by: Avery Caris, Jarman Day

Claire Cain welcomes you to Juniper View for a fabulous novel, a small-town romance that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstring from start to end. Sam left L.A. and her abusive ex behind to start over fresh and headed to Juniper View, a small mountain town. The first person she met was not the friendliest or the most welcoming: Sheriff Grant Ryan. After settling in, she found everyone else to be friendly and welcoming, including the person who pointed her to an available apartment, one she could afford. Only to learn her landlord was the grumpy sheriff, but with limited options she needed the apartment and was not giving up on it. Grant, a single dad of two daughters, has a suspicious mind, which comes with his job, so he is always skeptical of newcomers, and work had been stressing him out too. She was reluctant with him too, since her ex left her scarred, she does not trust easily. With his mind put at ease, and then hers after seeing more of his polite side and how great he was with his daughters. His whole family, the Ryans, are accommodating and super nice to her, as are others in the town. I enjoyed watching Grant and Sam get to know each other, then seeing their relationship morph into something so much more. Sam was great with his daughters, who loved her kitty, and she grew fond of the rest of his family as well. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all plays out, with the perfect balance of drama, angst, heartwarming moments, profound emotions, and a slow burn, but so worth the wait romance. The writing, plot, and world-building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Claire Cain, thank you for the fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧   And for the fabulous audiobook listen and production performed by two wonderfully talented voice artists, Avery Caris and Jarman Day, who did a fabulous job bringing the characters to life. Their character voices are fitting for a perfect portrayal of each and are believable in every role. Both embodied their characters completely, grasping every facet of their personalities and demeanor. Day nailed it as Grant, from his grumpiness to his caring and protective side, and Caris was just as fabulous as Sam and was a natural in the role. They were fantastic performing the roles of the side/secondary characters, young and old. Their expressive delivery conveyed all the characters’ emotions, and they made you feel each one. These two are a fabulous narration team, with voices that complement each other and a captivating performance that keeps you glued to the story.

Possible trigger warning: This book contains mild reference to domestic violence, parental neglect and traumatic loss of close friends. It is a “fade to black” romance and has occasional swear words.

Under Juniper Skies is Book 1 of Claire Cain’s latest series. Juniper View is a small town, not far from “Silverton” a small-town ski resort in Utah. It is a dual POV book, meaning the reader is privy to the inner thoughts of both main characters.

Here in “Juniper View” we meet “Sam” and “Grant”.

Grant has become the local sheriff, kind of by default, but his character makes him perfect for the job. He's a strong, silent type, who is constantly trying to do the right thing. He’s also a single parent after close friends of his were killed in an accident. Their two young daughters became his afterwards which led to his retiring from the Army and moving back to Juniper View.

Sam is in search of a new beginning. She’s been working for over a year to extricate herself from her old life in LA and an abusive ex-husband. She’s grown up scratching her way out of difficult situations and is hoping she and Mr. Bingley, her cat, will finally be able to find a quiet, peaceful life here in Juniper View – as soon as she can get the tire changed on her junker car that went flat just outside of said destination.

Now you KNOW Grant shows up to help, right? But Sam has trust issues and insists on changing her own tire with as little help as possible from "the man who looks more like the movie version of a hot cop, rather than a small-town law enforcement officer". Eventually, she makes it to Juniper View, and her new life is now underway.

Need I mention their romance is fire? They’re both so careful, for good reason because of things they’ve endured prior, his young kids, etc., but their mutual attraction and friendship grows and eventually there’s no denying it.

These characters are expertly developed. The pacing is just right, and we become well acquainted with the new town and some of its shops, and proprietors. A few of the characters we’ve already met in the Veterans of Silver Ridge series make an appearance briefly. (Claire’s books are always written in such a way that they can stand alone, but you’re seriously missing out if you stop at just one. Just sayin’. 😉) Grant’s siblings and side-character stories are just aching to be told!

I can’t wait for the next one!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is my first book by Claire Cain and it certainly won't be my last. I simply loved Grant and Sam, and their sweet love story. Claire delves into some heavy and dark topics, and does so with such a good balance of grace and honesty.

Sam is on the run, looking to rebuild her life after a rough childhood and an abusive marriage. Before she even has a chance to settle, though, she runs into Grant, the grumpy sheriff who treats her like a suspected criminal. Then, she winds up moving into the apartment above his garage and as they get to know each other, everything starts shifting between them and I couldn't get enough of them. Sam is sweet, strong and independent, and Grant is guarded, protective, and secretly a cinnamon roll for the people he loves. I love everything about these two and how they treat one another. Plus, their chemistry is delicious.

I also adore Grant's family. His parents are just the best and the Ryan siblings were all so fun, I am stoked for the rest of this series (I've already pre-ordered the second book). Lily and Poppy are the stars of the show, though, and Grant as a girl-dad was just the sweetest thing, I'm obsessed.

Quick disclaimer: While this story is entirely closed-door, I would not classify it as "clean". There are pretty frequent mild profanities, and fade-to-black implied intimacy between unmarried MCs. This didn't affect my enjoyment of the story (if you've read this review, you should know already how much I love this book), but I know some people have stronger convictions/preferences than me.

Also, since I listened to the audiobook, I want to add how great the narrators, Avery Caris and Jarman Day, did bringing this story to life.

Thank you so much, Claire and Booked with the Emilys, for the ALC in exchange for a feature post. This book made me an immediate fan and I can’t wait to go back and catch up on all Claire’s past books! No review was required, all opinions are my own.

‼️Please note in the beginning of the book there is a warning that the author notes. ‼️

Synopsis:
I'm here to start a new life, not fall for the handsome, grumpy single dad sheriff.

I really enjoyed this book and all the supporting characters. Poppy and Lilly are so cute and funny. I can’t wait to read the next book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 stars.

Ahh, this was just so cute. Under Juniper Skies is the first book in Claire Cain’s new series, Juniper Views and it was the perfect start. It set up the series well without straying away from Grant and Sam.
I liked getting to know both Grant and Sam. They had both been through so much and were figuring out life again. They had a bit of a rough start, but they worked through their first impressions. I loved the strength that both of these characters showed as they learned to overcome the obstacles that stood in their way.
The romance was just the sweetest as they learned to communicate and really get to know each other. Grant could come off a little harsh but he loved his family. He was constantly challenging himself to do better and consider others. He was such a good dad and you could tell that he loved his girls. He felt like he had failed them in the past so he was doing his best to protect them. I love how he learned to forgive himself and let others in.
Sam was so strong but she was really feeling down. It was cool to read about Sam blossoming and finding herself. She found a family in an unlikely spot. Her relationship with Grant was the sweetest especially when she learned to trust herself. I liked her growth throughout the book. She was so strong but she needed to learn how to let others in.
I really enjoyed this book! And I am so excited for the rest of the series, I know it is going to be amazing. The characters were lovely and the story draws you in. Grant’s girls were so sweet and I love the family themes. I would totally recommend this book! Under Juniper Skies is a fade to black contemporary romance.

By: Claire Cain
Narrated by: Avery Caris, Jarman Day

Where do you go to start over? Sam left LA looking to begin the next chapter in her life, landing in the small town of Juniper View. She needed to find a place where her abusive ex-husband would not find her and here she can start her new life from career to friends. The first person she meets is the sheriff, Grant. If this is how it's going to be, it will not be easy, but quickly she finds the friendlier people. She finds an apartment from one of these new friends only to realize she is now living next to the sheriff and his two girls and he the landlord. Quickly taking to the girls and being enveloped into his family, he is learning just how special Sam is. But is he willing to take the chance with his heart? Will he let his girls fall in love with her too? Will he be able to keep her safe? Claire Cain has created a bit of magic with this small town, and I am there for it. She deals with relevant issues adding a little suspense and a whole lot of love showing how family can be found.

Avery Caris and Jarman Day are the story tellers for this one, and they give a a fabulous performance.. Caris is Sam, full of new life for her new home but still on edge from her past. Day is Grant, the grumpy to her sunshine and he is all that and more. But the feeling he puts into his voice for his girls is the thing that made me fall! Add in a cameo by Ryan Lee Dunlap as a teaser for book two and it's an amazing listen.

And the debate continues… duet or dual narration? 👀

I’ll usually choose duet but when the narrators are Avery Caris and Jarman Day, it honestly doesn’t matter. They were perfectly cast and completely elevated this audiobook.

Under Juniper Skies by Claire Cain is a beautifully emotional small-town romance about finding the courage to start over after life has broken your trust. Sam arrives in Juniper View hoping for a fresh start, never expecting to clash with the town’s grumpy sheriff… or slowly discover the kind, protective man beneath the badge.

The romance unfolds at exactly the right pace, allowing the characters to heal, grow, and truly earn their happily ever after. It was comforting, heartfelt, and filled with the kind of warmth that reminds you not every romance has to be full of drama to leave a lasting impression.

Avery Caris brought so much emotion and vulnerability to Sam’s journey, while Jarman Day gave Grant the perfect balance of quiet strength, patience, and tenderness. Together, they made every moment feel genuine, and I found myself completely immersed in their story.

If you’re looking for a story that feels like a little light in the darkness—a romance that’s comforting, emotional, and full of heart—this audiobook is one I’d wholeheartedly recommend.

⭐ Story: 4⭐
🎧 Narration: 5⭐
🌶️ Romance: Sweet

Thank you so much to PinUp Audio for the ALC. As always, all thoughts are my own. 🤍

Ah!!!! Ok so first of all, please don't look at the amount of time it took me to read this book and think "wow, it took her forever so it must not be good." That could not be further from the truth. I have been struggling badly with a reading slump this year but trust me when I saw, I was kicking my feet and giggling like a little girl by the end of this book. It was so good! Also, the bonus epilogue for Declan and Evie got me SO excited about the next book! I'm already hooked.

Grant and Sam together are both chef's kiss. Both of these main characters have their own moments of brokenness. Neither feels worth the other, but watching them come together over time and help heal the broken pieces in each other was just so intense and moving and I loved every second. Sometimes I had to remind myself that these feelings didn't pop up all of sudden because the author did use language to show the passage of time, but that was more on me I think as the reader. There was a small moment of tension when Andrew (what an absolute sleaze) makes his presence known but I was thankful it didn't drag on for too long.

I am definitely drawn into this series, this town, and the Ryan family so I can't wait to see more. Did I detect marriage of convenience on the horizon??? Because if so, sign me up!

Review of advance copy received from Author

Claire Cain has very quickly become a must-read author for me... and this book is the perfect example as to why. A super protective former military single dad serving as sheriff. A woman running from her difficult past and starting over. A small town and a beautiful family that I can't help but be drawn into and want to see more of. Grant and Sam's story had so much to love... and I certainly did just that! From their awkward meet cute, I just couldn't get enough of these two. There was a great chemistry, of course (seriously, those kisses!) but it was really the tenderness and vulnerability between them that made their romance that much more beautiful. This story touched on some difficult subjects like abuse, but there was such a beautiful sense of healing and finding home as well. I loved meeting all of the Ryan family and the people of Juniper View and cannot wait to see what is going to happen next in the series. If you love protective heroes and emotional romance, this is one you won't want to miss!

Under Juniper Skies is a closed-door romance with fade to black and some minor innuendo and language throughout.

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

This is a dual POV, closed door, contemporary romance.

Sam is planning to move to Juniper View to escape an abusive relationship. Before she gets there she has a flat tire. This is how she first meets Grant. He is Peak County and Juniper View's Sheriff. He pulls over to see why Sam is stopped in a no-stopping zone. He offers to change the flat tire but Sam tells him she can handle it. Sam and Grant both have serious trust issues so they don't get along at first. They do eventually work out the rough spots and develop a loving relationship.

There are moments of mild suspense... one of Grant's daughters wanders off but is quickly found. That kind of mild suspense. A few things happen and the suspense gathers momentum, but I'll leave it to you to read what happens.

I loved Grant's little girls and the way he interacted with them. He's an awesome daddy. It would be hard for me to choose a favorite character because they all had moments when they were wonderful.

One thing Claire Cain does in each of her books is post a content warning. That way a reader can decide if they will be comfortable reading that particular story.

I was given an ARC of this story but all thoughts and comments are mine, given voluntarily.

This was my first Claire Cain book, and it definitely won't be my last! I absolutely loved this story.

Sam is the definition of resilience and strength. After everything she endured at the hands of her ex-husband back in Los Angeles, she finally gets a chance to start over. She moves to a small town with her beloved cat, Mr. Bingly, determined to rebuild her life one step at a time.

Then she crosses paths with Grant the town sheriff, single father to two adorable little girls, and a walking green flag with a bit of a savior complex. Watching Sam slowly open herself up to love, family, and the possibility of happiness again had me completely invested. I didn't want this story to end...I wanted to be part of this family!

Avery Caris and Jarman Day were fantastic. They both brought so much vulnerability, emotion, and charm to their performances. I have to give Avery a special shoutout her masculine character voices are incredible. You honestly forget you're listening to a woman voice a male character. Both narrators elevated an already wonderful story, and I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end.

This was an easy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ listen for me. A beautiful small-town romance with heart, healing, and a family you'll never want to leave.

Quote I enjoyed:

“The right thing isn’t always clear. All I can do is my best with what comes.”

Thank you @bookedwiththeemilys and @clairecainwriter for the gifted audio.

Small town, single dad, great family connection…sign me up! This story had me hooked from the beginning. I loved the first meeting that Sam and Grant had, him being grumpy and tentative her being cautious. Sam’s strength and emotional growth to rebuilding her life is inspiring. You can just feel the connection between Sam and Grant come off the pages, enjoying how their relationship progressed throughout the story. The found family and friendships Sam found in Juniper View, just makes me love small towns even more.
Oh that bonus epilogue now has me anxiously waiting for book two. Honestly, a book for each of the Ryan siblings would be great!

This is book one in the Juniper View Series. This is closed door, while there is some language throughout the story. There are some heavy topics that were written with well and with respect.

A new to me author. I look forward to reading more of her work.

Narrated by Avery Caris and Jarman Day. Love the dual narration. They did a great job brining the characters off the pages.
