When Cathie Hackett invites her neighbours Peter Wilde and Andrew Liston to join her and her husband for a drink one evening, they readily agree, eager to spend more time with the attractive blond.

However, when they arrive at her flat that evening, Cathie isn’t there, and her husband Ben is not expecting them.

Accompanied by his suspicious friend Harry, he at first claims that she has gone away for a few days to visit her mother, before revealing the shocking news that she has in fact been kidnapped and is being held at ransom.

Puzzled by Ben Hackett’s casual attitude to the situation and his unwillingness to involve the police, Peter and Andrew decide to take matters into their own hands and investigate.

They soon discover that Ben may not be who he says he is, and find themselves the target of a criminal gang who are willing to do anything it takes to receive their ransom...

'Countersnatch' is an expertly-plotted crime thriller from a master story-teller.
