This review is going to be listed in order. No spoilers, only my personal likes and feelings for each read.
Mr. January-Beg For It by Angie Daniels: Three nights of erotic, and I was begging for it. Angie is over the top in Beg for It, read it, read it.
Mr. February-Reclamation6: I've Got Your Six by Erosa Knowles: A sweet roller coaster ride of family and love. Grabbed my heart, and had tears in my eyes.
Mr. March-Succulent A Twilight Teahouse Story by T.J. Michaels: Shows a different side of BDSM and the relationship two loves can bring. Kinson Lee is ohhhh steal my heart.
Mr. April-Stalking Nayla by Yvette Hines: What can I say, Shimar has me screaming for him to sink his cat claws into my back as he pleasures me like no other cat can. Yvette, is the only author that can make me read cat shifters and make me wiggle. Hot as hell read.
Mr. May-Prescription for Love by Seressia: Glass-Please, oh please, can I have both Jasmine and Alex. These two just had me take cold showers just to read. Hmmmm!
Mr. June-Solomon's Quest by Serenity King: This is the first book I have read by Serenity, and I loved the secrets that explored here and there. Just kept me from setting down the read.
Mr. July-One Hot Dare by Michelle Monkou: Again like Serenity King, this is my first read by Michelle and my first read of a post-modern Japan samurai. Damn, I just don't know what to say, but read this, read this.
Mr. August-All The Small Things, Book1 of the Bottoms Up series by Stephanie Burke: Tego, oh Tego my little omega, how I want to be Daiki. Stephanie made me have to call in help for release. READ, READ, and oh yeah READ.
Mr. September-Inferno by Aliyah Burke: Inferno is right, I need Bastian every night, that's how hot this read is.
Mr. October-Wicked Games by Maureen Smith: All that I can say is HOT and ICE. Reid, please take me.
Mr. November-The Ultimate Goal by Di Topaz: Di, oh my Di. Promise not to love, career junkies, and the promise to go for that Ultimate Goal, rocked my world. Another read that I can't live without.
Mr. December-Seeking Santa, A sweet little short story by Latrivia S. Nelson: Can I please have Kennedy?!? Enough said about Seeking Santa. Hmmmmmm!
Bottom line- 12 amazing Authors, 12 Alphas to rock your world, in 12 Months. This is a must read, hands down 5 stars. Loved 12 Alphas 12 Months, and will be re-reading. I only re-read 5 stars books, and this is what you have. Don't walk, but run, and pick up your copy of 12 Alphas 12 Months.
Dear authors of 12 alphas, 12 months, Did you gals maybe submitted your first versions of your stories by mistake because: way too much edit and grammar errors!!!!! It's disturbing. And insulting to your readers! 12 authors and you could not come up with a decent editor to proof read this? Or, I don't know, you could have proof read each other's work? There was one story that had so much errors that I got distracted and DNF and skipped to the next story. Which was slightly better. By a thread.
Most of these authors are bestselling ones. But based on the stories some of them submitted for this anthology, you would think they just started out or were participants in a writing contest for the small town daily. These stories were bland and sometimes complete duds. Some started out with a good premise that were totally killed in the execution: lack of proper character building, wacky plots, unrealistic dialogues...to just name a few wrongs. Of course there were a few good ones: I did like Serenity King's story about Solomon and Tabitha. It's part of a series though, and I haven't read all the installments, so I was missing crucial info. Confusing much. Also a shout out to Maureen Smith, T.J. Michaels, Yvette Hines and new author (to me) Michelle Monkou for contributing quite decent stories.
And I'm still not sure what to make of Stephanie Burkes All the small things. With this story I was introduced to the concept of male pregnancy. As intriguing as that sounds, I could have done without it...
Overall: my expectations were not met and this box set leaves me feeling: meh.
I had really high expectations for this collection of novellas. It’s what you should expect from bestselling authors. But, the one word that immediately pops into mind when thinking of 12 Alphas, 12 Months is messy. Every single story in here needs work. And not just the grammatical mistakes that are distracting to the point that I DNFed several. But, there are glaring continuity errors in many that took me right out of the narrative. There were abrupt POV changes, sometimes from one sentence to the next. It made for a frustrating read.
Nor did the thread linking them – the calendar shoot – work organically with all the stories. I wouldn’t have missed it were it left out completely. The interracial couples angle was enough of a link.
Quite a few of these read like first drafts instead of finished and polished books ready for the public eye. How are we ever expected to overcome the negative stigma of diverse books being substandard if we put out books that are this problematic? What’s even more upsetting is that the problems are all fixable, some with just a simple spelling and grammar check in a word processing program. Others just needed another set of eyes. This more than anything angered me, because it just comes across as lazy. Considering the caliber of talent included here and the success of some of these authors, this is unacceptable. Your readers deserve better.
However, there are a few bright spots that stand out, though they are also not without issue themselves (And I use ‘however’ ironically here, because some of the novellas used it so much, I thought I was back reading high school essays instead of fiction.). Beg For It was a great opener and kept me wanting to read. But, some of the low-key body and slut shaming angered me. Stalking Nayla was great, with its combination of fantasy and erotica. I just wish that the author had noticed that Nayla went from being experienced to being a virgin from one chapter to the next. Are we even still on the prized virgin trope?? But, I will probably pick up the rest of the books in that series.
My favorite entry came from Maureen Smith, with Wicked Games. I’ve never had a thing for hockey players, but Ms. Smith’s Reid did a lot to change my mind. It was the most put-together of all the novellas. Another favorite is Prescription for Love by Seressia Glass. I’ve been wanting to read this author for a while, so I’m glad she was included in this anthology. Succulent was also enjoyable, but the ending felt wanting and unfinished, like there’s more to this couple’s story.
I guess I’m so upset is that I saw tons of potential in this collection. But, when you put something out in the world for public consumption, you better damn well make sure it’s ready for it. We have enough uphill battles in this industry without bringing them on ourselves.
I was pretty disappointed by this box set. Out of 12 stories, I absolutely loved 1, liked 4, and hated the rest. I probably should have anticipated this, since I was unfamiliar with 6 of the authors, but the $.99 price tag, and a story by one of my favorite authors was too much to resist.
The only consistency regarding the calendar was the name of the organization that it would benefit and the fact that Tamela Harvin was behind it; each book seemed to have a different reason for why the calendar was being done, the qualifications for potential models (women were possibilities in one story), as well as different descriptions of the photographer, Braden Nile, both in looks and personality. At least 3 of the books were part of a series, which was confusing and sometimes hard to follow if you hadn't read the other books in the series. And the editing was terrible in almost all of the books.
As another reviewer said, it was a great idea, but the execution fell short.
Thought this might be a good story at the beginning but I didn't really enjoy it in the end maybe you need to read the whole series but from the 1st book I'm not that interested
Merged review:
I have finally finished and to the most part I liked quite a few of the stories. I like Mr January, didn't like Mr February I wasn't too sure what the story was about and I skipped to the end. I also didn't like March but that could be because I'm not really into the BDSM kind of story. Also I didn't read Mr September I couldn't really understand what the book was about, after chapter 1 I was really confused and then chapter 2 was a bit too much for me and I gave the rest a miss. The rest of the stories were all worth the read and I enjoyed them very much.
