This was an enjoyable, easy read and great for those interested in maritime history, particularly of the Chesapeake Bay region. I was surprised by the sheer volume of shipwrecks in the Bay and this book, written back in 1982, contains a detailed table of more than 1,800 known wrecks. The author picks a handful of wreck stories throughout history, with most occurring during the Revolutionary and Civil War periods. Some of the map locator graphics were inaccurate, but overall a satisfying dip into the subject for lay readers. I will likely seek out the numerous related books by Donald Shomette.
Recommended for native Marylanders, those interested in maritime history of the Mid-Atlantic region, and shipwreck enthusiasts.
