As a church or nonprofit leader who relies on volunteer teams to get the job done each week, you know how difficult it can be to keep all of your volunteer roles filled. You feel overworked and understaffed, with a budget smaller than your vision. Sometimes your ministry can feel like it has a revolving door, simultaneously bringing in new volunteers as current ones leave. The cycle of volunteer recruitment and turnover can be overwhelming, leading to frustration and distracting from the mission. In The Volunteer Project, we will introduce you to 4 Strategies that, when applied, will launch your church or nonprofit ministry into what we call a zero recruitment model of volunteerism. Formulated from the authors’ research, combined 50+ years of experience in leading volunteer teams, and the feedback of hundreds of volunteers, these 4 Strategies are designed to provide individuals with such satisfying volunteer experiences that they are motivated to continue volunteering, and even invite their friends to join them. Packed with comprehensive research, an online assessment tool for measuring volunteer satisfaction, and real-life stories, The Volunteer Project is designed to help you stop recruiting and start retaining.
I picked this book up at the SALT conference in Nashville because I enjoyed Christine's class on volunteer development so much, and I'm so glad I did. It's full of insights into how to value and equip your volunteers for successful and fun ministry, how to build up the body of Christ in love and joy. It's broken up into short, specific, practical chapters so it was super easy to get through, and it's easy to take one chapter at a time to focus on. I'm going to encourage our church staff to read through it together, because I believe these principles and practices will have that much of a positive effect on our church and volunteer culture.
Took plenty pictures of pictures of pages in the book. Probably the most applicable book to volunteer lead organizations. If you have a question or need direction there is no better book
Perhaps one of the most applicable and practical books on this subject. Yes, some of the information shared is common sense and simple to do but the problem is, we so often do not do it. I for one, appreciate the reminder and gentle push!
Anyone with a volunteer under them should read this. Even for those who don’t, I got so many ideas about my ministry/workplace I’m general as well as insight into how I can improve as a leader as well as a coworker.
COVID changed several of the retaining strategies in this book but there are natural long term human elements to take away from this easy to read guide.
Helpful collection of ideas. Great resource for anyone who leads volunteers, especially in church ministry.
In ministry, our role is to "equip the saints for the work of ministry" (Eph 4:12). Stop standing up on stage making huge requests and pushes for volunteers and instead focus on developing a better volunteer process. A great volunteer experience attracts new volunteers better than recruiting pitches, obligation, or outside incentive. People want to serve and find ways to use their gifts in a way that impacts eternity. People long to belong to something bigger than themselves.
What if you saw your role as someone who helps volunteers find their "sweet spot," equipping them to pursue their passions for the kingdom of God? This book will show you how.
I will use this book and the online resources as a tool for my work in volunteer management in children's ministry. I'm very grateful for the book and its authors.
Great practical book designed to help ministry leaders design irresistible environments for people to serve in. Had a lot of great nuggets in here on how to best maximize your volunteer experience so you stop the volunteer exodus. Highly recommend!
