This volume is a carefully chosen collection of five stories that reflect the close relationship between Mr. Eddy and H.P. Lovecraft, author of the weird and macabre, as creative writers and friends. Three of the stories in this book, "Pilgrimage of Peril", "The Vengeful Vision", and "A Solitary Solution", were written during the Lovecraftian association. A fourth "Miscreant from Murina", was completed in 1951. The fifth story "Black Noon", started by Mr. Eddy in 1967 but not completed due to his death, and published here in its unfinished form, is a fictionalized parallelism of the late C.M. Eddy,Jr. and H.P. Lovecraft literary liasion.

Supernatural? Yes. Bizarre? Not at all.

If only friend Lovecraft had advised our author against liberally peppering his stories with exclamation marks! What an improvement that might have made!! I realize this style of punctuating high action/astonishment scenes was more frequently used (and tolerated) back in the days when these tales were published, but I still have a hard time getting past how corny, patronizing and unnecessary they are; I admit I did a whole lot of cringing while reading this book. The inclusion of more "flashing," "flaming," "shining," and "burning" eyes than one person should ever have to deal with in one lifetime, let alone one book, didn't help matters either.
Disappointing overall, and in fact I was pretty surprised at how bad this turned out to be; nothing here merits a deeper dive into this author's other work for me.

Has a style similar to Lovecraft although his voice is definitely his own.
