I just don't know what to do with this series anymore. I feel invested having completed 9 books already, yet utterly frustrated with how stagnant Thor's character has become. Constantly yearning to meet his mother yet continually putting it off. Not developing his powers whatsoever and then suddenly being able to use them after a dream?!? I wonder when this will all wrap up.

I swear, I am pretty sure that the only reason I am still reading this series is because I just want to see, in written text, what becomes of this imaginary world. Although I has a relatively good and interesting plot, most of the scenes you would think of as exciting just bore me, again. Every exciting scene is a repeated version of the one exactly like that happened two chapters before. I want to read something that describes each experience as new and different, not that same thing over and over. I want to see the sparks fly in different colors each time Thor and Gwen kiss.
Also, the characters are hard to figure out. They are too simple. I want to know how they think and how they feel. Their feelings are too repetitive and shallow. The way that Thor continuously thinks that he has finally found a home, finally feels accepted and not like and outsider who doesn't belong. I have read that part in probably five of the books. There are too many repeated feelings and scenes it feels like. But, I am curious as to how the author will bring this whole series to a close.

When a generation falls, a new must rise.

Before I start I just want to say something. They are all idiots! Okay now, on with the review.

“Hiding amidst the most glorious flowers are the most venomous snakes, hiding behind the most brilliant sunshine are the darkest clouds, the fiercest storms waiting to gather. Do not look at the sun, look at the cloud behind, the clouds you do not yet see, know for certain they are there, prepare. You are the shepherd that leads the flock and the flock knows not what comes.”

The battle for kings landing, I mean for kings court, continued. The notorious empire against the most worthy, against honor, against glory, against... our hero’s. Many fell to swords and arrows. And those that survived rebuilt. A celebration to be had, a feast worthy of kings, queens and of the entire kingdom, all in harmony, for all the hardships they have gone through this many age. A wedding, not of one but two.

A novel where most of the characters make the simplest of decisions extremely difficult and the answers are all coming out wrong. How can they divert so far from the answer, a detour we can only hope it is.
Thor, Qwendolyn, Reece and his cousin, Argon, Eldon and Luanda most of all. The only one that is making the right decisions is Godfrey, and well, that isn’t good.

We leave with a compass that always points toward destiny, the upper isles and that of the clouds in chaos, Reece unable to move an inch, similarly, Qwendolyn in the same state and Luanda covered in blood.

There are many twists and turns in book #9 (I have the bundle 7, 8, 9 but wanted to post a short review for this one). There are highs and lows, battles and the unexpected.

The writing style is great - fast-paced and imaginative - but it does need proper editing.

Overall, an entertaining, engaging and enjoyable read.

While risking sounding like the proverbial broken record, I can't believe I'm still bothering with this series. I have said before that I think it's a question of quantity over quality and I reiterate that here. The editing of this installment is - in a word - lousy! Missed words, words misused, tenses wrongly spelled plus other misspellings galore and so on and so on. After the fun of "Victor, Vanquished, Son" it is difficult to visualize two books being written by the same author.

I'm getting discouraged. Gwen and Thor aren't married yet with her pregnant for what seems 16 months. It took 9 books to kill the evil father and drug addict brother. I am still intrigued to read the next book. Can I be a proofreader for this publishing company? Wish I could mark all the mistakes in my ebooks and forward it to the author.

To bad that this is the last book l have from this serie . I now have to wait 2 weeks until l can buy parts 10 , 11 , 12 and 13 . This serie is great to read and once you started it you can't stop .

Recurring things from Book 1 to Book 9:
1. A confusing geography. I suggest keeping a map of the world.
2. Character name mix-ups.
3. Very important: perspective. How can a character know who's attacking who when they haven't met the commander? Please stick to one voice. We're in the head of a character that had no idea what's going on, and yet, he knew something he shouldn't have known. The storyteller and the character shouldn't be mixed together, it's too confusing.
4. Too many clichés. Seriously.
5. The same description, dialogue, thoughts in almost every book. The character was already established. We already know Thor finds it hard to speak whenever he wants to do something special. And the funny thing was, Gwen said it was the second time he saw Thor stammering when it was the third time already! Please don't copy and paste, or at least do not forget to re-write the scene, their words, it's too obvious it was a verbatim copy.

Don't get me wrong. The world, the characters, the story, it's all great, that's what saved it all, what kept me buying and reading. It's the writing and lack of an editor. I still gave a 4 out of 5 especially for this book.

Great story line, only negative is the editing. Typos are not as forgivable as they used to be, spell check is just to prevalent, and editors should have caught them before it hit presses as well.

The Sorcerer’s Ring series is a pretty good fantasy story when considered as a single story spanning the entire series.

Generally speaking, the characters in this series tend to be either excessively good or excessively bad, although that has become a little less true as the story has progressed. Also, all of them are phenomenal fighters, and although they may be wounded, most of the main characters don’t die. A Sky of Spells breaks that mold a little bit too, however.

In the early books, nearly everything went in favor of the hero, Thorgrin. True, he was accused of attacking the King and sent to the dungeon, when all he had meant to do was warn the King of impending danger. And the King did die soon afterward. But Thorgrin was cleared shortly thereafter.

Things had been getting progressively worse for the kingdoms of the Ring since then though. Just like it looked as if they had one problem solved, something else popped up. First, it was Gareth, Gwendolyn’s crazy older brother insisting on his right to be King despite his father’s choice of Gwen to rule. Then they were attacked by the treacherous McClouds from the other half of the Ring. Then Andronicus and his million-man army attack from the wilds. And it went on. The worst was when Andronicus announced he was Thorgrin’s father and had his magician trick Thorgrin (Andronicus called him Thornicus) into loving and serving the monster that was Andronicus.

Well, A Sky of Spells changes all that. The sight of Gwen brings Thorgrin back to himself and he turns on Andronicus, finally defeating him in single combat. Argon defeats Andronicus’ magician. Bronson defeats what is left of his father, King McCloud. And all the other enemies of the MacGil’s kingdom fall before their armies and dragons.

Then it is time to start rebuilding the kingdom from all the damage done to it in the war. Frankly, I’m surprised there is anybody left to rebuild after so many deadly battles. But I feel the same way about real wars in the real world, most of which left many survivors despite the horrific losses of life. Gwen chooses, to the best of her ability, the people she considers most suited to the many rebuilding tasks facing them. She also attempts to be as generous as possible to the defeated portions of the Ring kingdoms. But before the end of the book, many things have started to fall apart again.

As many others have already observed, this entire series could have benefited greatly from thorough editing.

I keep saying I might not continue with this series, and then I listen to the next one. I'm not actually enjoying this series, but I can't stop listening to it either. This picks up immediately following the previous book, but we also get a time jump of 6 months, meaning Thor is finally 15. Thor and Gwen are planning their wedding, and Reese and his girl are going to join them for a double wedding. But, there is trouble in the newly annexed parts of the kingdom so Gwen sends Reese to the upper isles. Godfrey to the McCloud side. One of her commanders to another area. Kendrick and Eric to finish the rebuilding of the outer villages. And Thor to recruit for the Legion. His first stop does not go well, they don't believe he, a tiny 15 year old, is the legendary Thorgrin, and he only picks one person from the first village. When Reese gets to the upper isles he sees his cousin, his first love, and completely forgets about his fiancee. This is what happens when you let 15 year olds get engaged. Gwen is heavily pregnant and due any day; the book ends with Gwen being told that her mother is dying and her rushing to her and then feeling like her labor is starting halfway between the two locations, by herself. Normally I say the only character I like is Kendrick, but he was acting very out of character so I didn't even like him. This is so frustrating. I want to stop listening but I don't know if I can.

Always there are new problems and another difficult decision to be taken, there are choices to be made, and a kingdom to rule. At last Thor has been able to complete the first part of his mother's request, but even in a time of peace there are dark clouds gathering. I'm only about halfway through the series and the story so far effectively covers a little more than a year in time, but it is an epic tale!

I am so HOOKED in this story, I have to know what happens next. With that being said, the writing needs help, earlier books had a lot of repetition(same word james’s over and over to describe different events) and that has gotten somewhat better, but still occurs some. But the editing is still horrible. Sometimes I have to read a sentence several times using different words to fill in the area I know was not typed correctly before I find a word i Hope is correct/sounds correct to me.

tal como a saga da ascensão dos Dragões. Mas francamente não há paciência para continuar. A história tornou-se circular. Guerras e guerras que se ganham ao ultimo momento com uma aparição inesperada, honra, respeito, ultimo stand etc, etc, etc.
Não consegui ultrapassar nem um quarto do livro. Nem com uma mulher como protagonista e rainha.
Imagino os próximos 3 ou 4 e saltei fora deste barco.

I am going to take a little break before I continue reading this series because I am not finding joy in it anymore. I can barely remember what I loved about it when I first started reading. The characters no longer feel like themselves. I am not going to drop it all together because I have already invested a lot of time. Although the editing is still horrendous, the storyline and content have finally come up a notch. The first eight books were all consumed with chopping off heads, and other violent acts. They were downright depressing. This book, however, had a glimmer of hope, of goodness and kindness. Finally a decent balance of good and evil. On to book 10

Morgan Rice's A Sky of Spells is enough. I got into The Sorcerer's Ring series after reading the graphic novel, but at this rate, Thorgrin is just an overpowered guy who single handedly changes wars, and Gwen just keeps getting harrassed. It's super repetitive, using the same stories over and over again. It's much too old. It keeps going. Honestly.

This is a fantastic series! Some really interesting characters, I’m not typically a fantasy fan. But this series has my attention. I think I’ll be on a binge now to get through the series! There are some things that drive me nuts about this series such as repetition of events and it seems like there might be a lot of cut and paste happening. But overall a great series!

Nic wartego uwagi się tutaj nie dzieje. Oczywiście deux ex, czyli przylatują smoki i wszystko rozwalają. Bohater pokonuje ojca, wszyscy są szczęśliwi. Gwen odbudowuje królestwo, poprostu żyć nie umierać. Nasza królowa też chce pojednać wszystkich. Ale to nie oznacza, że nie ma tam kwiatków. O panie, np, nasza królowa wpada na genialny pomysł, aby wysłać brata pijaka do McCloudów. Po co, ktoś może zapytać. Bo ma on dar zjednywania sobie ludzi. Wódką i alkoholem. Co może pójść nie tak? Tak samo, śluby, a bardziej ślub, bo Thor inteligent wpada na równie sprytny pomysł. Chce zorganizować podwójny ślub z Recce. Nie dowierzałam, miałam takie, że te baby się nie zgodzą. Ależ się myliłam. Oczywiście bardzo dużo nam się mówi o relacjach, że ktoś był jak brat/siostra, a się nie pokazuje. Jest oczywiście nierealistycznie, kiedy jest walka, trwa kilka godzin, a oni się nie męczą. Nikt. Miecz lekki nie jest. A z tej fabuły wynika, że oni nie mogą mieć więcej jak 17 może w porywach 18, a zaznaczę, że zaczynaliśmy serię od 15. Podsumowując, nic ciekawego, średniak. Ale bawię się wyśmienicie, moje guilty-pleasure
