At 71 days, this was, by far, my fastest read through of the New Testament, incited by a friend's goal to read 9 different versions of the NT in 2019. I don't think I will keep quite that pace, but I plan to move on to the Beck NT next.

the Lord Jesus was a revolutionary and visionary ethicist and parabolist. I hope those who condemn Christ due to the actions and political and economic decisions of some loud and prominent pastors and Christians, actually read the Gospels and the many passages where he condemns false prophets, false followers, and false preachers.

Matthew 7
"15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. "

"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’"

Matthew 23
"Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them."

I read the New Testament for my Discovering the New Testament class. I didn't actually read this version. I read the NIV Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible. It was really cool to work my way straight through it, oftentimes finishing the shorter books in one day. Reading it this way, as opposed to reading it devotionally verse-by-verse or chapter-by-chapter, was really cool because I was able to see the bigger picture of meaning being spoken in each book, rather than just the meaning of selected verses here and there. I feel that, after this reading, I have a much better understanding of the message that the disciples of Jesus were trying to get across to the early Christians. But I also feel I have come to realize even more how little I know and how much there is to come to understand yet!
