The Unwedding

Rate this book
She ran from her wedding… and crashed into her next problem.

When Ella Franklin discovers her fiancée already has a fiancée, she does what any rational woman would do. She steals a bicycle and bolts.

Unfortunately, freedom comes with complications. Mainly getting hit by a car and landing face-first in a snowbank.

The driver? Kristen Mackenzie—gorgeous, surly, and deeply unimpressed by Ella’s existence.

With a blizzard closing in, Kristen reluctantly offers her the world’s least enthusiastic rescue: one night in a roadside motel, then they never have to see each other again. Simple.

Soon Ella is tangled up in chaotic country life, an overly invested lesbian social circle, wayward animals, and one broody woman who's far too easy to fall for.

Which is bad.

Because falling for the woman who hit her with a car seems like a terrible life decision.

Unfortunately, Ella wants to do it anyway.

A very sweet and funny read.
I flew through this and absolutely adored Kristen, Ella and all the side characters.

I did read a review saying some of the writing feels like Ai and I do have to agree that occasionally it did feel a little like Ai.
Maybe I just felt that way, because I've read that review before I read the book.
I do hope that this wasn't written with the help of Ai
The cover is also kinda giving Ai vibes, so do with that what you will.

A great start! Mad but it made me laugh many times and I think I pretty much read it all with a smile on my face, and let’s be honest……. That in its self these days is very valuable.
You know that phrase smiling till your cheeks hurt? ........ I actually have sore cheeks reading this book...... I'm not even sorry about it....... As the young things have probably never said!
There was a tug at my heart strings, then smiles returned. I loved it and found some lines that made me stop and reflect. I love a book that amuses as well as makes me think! Rounded up for that reason.

(rounded down from 4.25)

This was a lighthearted romp that is heavy on the COM part of romcom. The characters go through a series of silly events that bring chaos to their lives, and it's a good time for the reader. Loveable characters, fun plot, and many fun side characters.

Meh

Nice plot, poor execution. Repetitive similes. Chunks of the writing remind me of AI slop. Not saying it fully is, but it definitely reads as if it was heavily assisted by it.

Worth it!

What a fun read. The story was engaging, the characters were well developed and seemed like people you would love to hang with in real life. I absolutely loved the dialogue. There were times I had to keep myself from laughing out loud. I look forward to reading more from this author.

oops your fiancé forgot to mention her partner and kids..

Would you believe Ella meets her forever person on a borrowed bicycle running away from her wedding. Long story short turns out her fiancé has a significant other and kids! Something Nicola neglected to mention. To add a bit of drama Ella’s riding in the middle of the road white gown, it’s snowing so understandable that Kristen doesn’t see her as she’s driving.. she bumps the bike sending Ella into a snowbank. As they say the story proceeds from there..

Funny situations, great characters, a cat with a personality or this that attitude.

Another very enjoyable book by this author. Definitely not un-hilarious, un-romantic or un-Olivia Lucas. And Princess is not an un-character.

This was very good! Genuinely funny. Good characters, and chemistry. I liked the story, it wasn't over the top or uber dramatic. It steered away from tropes and cliches, I always hate the third act "break up" and the "last act" hollywood mucshy reconciliation.
I think the author did a nice job of just telling a simple but enjoyable love story.

I loved everything about this book! 📚

The cover was my initial draw, as I didn't know the author, and I'm not a fan of first-person narrative, so I was a little dubious in the beginning.

I am so glad I gave it a chance!

The slapstick, ridiculous scenarios they get themselves into are hilarious. The characters are fun and loveable. The dialogue is sharp and witty. And as always, they get their happily ever after.

The Unwedding is a fun, enjoyable read that had me laughing out loud.

Flipping hilarious and sweet

Who isn’t intrigued by a book that starts off with a bit hit and hobble.

Glad I picked it up for my weekend read. I enjoyed the adventure immensely and laughed out loud quite often. There was a bit of slapstick humor at times but it fit the story well.

Kristen is complex and Ella is going through it. The romance doesn’t feel rushed and you can’t help but root them on. Especially with a kitten with opinions mixed in. Add in the motley group of friends and family which are entertaining on their own.

Definitely a great read!

This was a delight!

I loved all the catastrophes. The way Joe charged for EVERYTHING! There was no ridiculous 4th act breakup. It was sweet and lovely.

Sadly, it was extremely White. With a soupçon of pastoralism. (The countryside is not inherently better. Your life is not easier there. Stop thinking farm life is a vacation. It is hard work and should be respected as such. People in the country are not nicer either. They are just people.)

Olivia L. is funny as hell!

I initially resented the opening melodrama—well, melodrama in general, because I suspect it's just manipulation—but it turned out that lots of story elements would not have worked out any other way.

I also thought the kitten was just a little too mean, and I still think so!

But everybody else was great, and some of their friends were just screamingly funny. A very satisfying read.

Hilarious Romantic Comedy

Olivia Lucas delivered an incredibly hilarious, well written book with characters that I loved. There were many moments when I was laughing out loud at the antics of either the characters or one of the numerous animals in this story. There were also some important life lessons courtesy of Kristen and Ella, the main characters.

Loved this story

What is a very good romcom? One that makes the reader laugh while feeling the warmth of the story. And, man, did I laugh. This was because Olivia Lucas invented such great characters that brought the story to life. Yup, a very good romcom!

Hilariously heartwarming

A refreshingly, outside the usual sapphic box, story. No interminable angst or tired tropes. Just a very funny yet heartwarming story of two women finding love despite questionable timing for both. Highly recommend!
