I loved this so much that I immediately turned around and read it again. The only problem with Cara Bastone books is that the characters aren’t real and I can’t follow them around for the rest of their lives. I’ve Got You is a gorgeous, expansive, and colorful romance.

Every single book Cara Bastone writes finds a way to delve deep into my soul, finding exactly the places that ache before somehow managing to hurt and heal them at the same time. Packing an enormous emotional punch, I'VE GOT YOU had me crying, laughing, and ultimately smiling at the sheer beauty of this story.
What initially feels like a classic rom-com setup quickly reveals itself to be so much more. Soli has finally ended her long-term relationship and is embracing a future where she's happily single and responsible only for herself. That plan is upended when her teenage nephew, Cody, unexpectedly arrives needing a place to stay—right as her apartment floods. Her landlord, Ethan, doesn't want her to leave, so he offers Soli and Cody a temporary home with him and his daughter, Miriam, while the apartment is repaired. Ethan already has more than enough on his plate as he navigates fatherhood, co-parenting, recovery from a life-altering accident, and running his business, yet he never hesitates to help someone in need. As these two very different households collide, Soli and Ethan slowly discover they may be exactly what the other has been missing.
First, I love that we finally got Ethan's story. Cara has been quietly weaving him through this series, and it was incredibly rewarding to see him step into the spotlight after all these years. When we first met Ethan in READY OR NOT, he was uncertain about his role in his soon-to-be daughter's life, and I immediately wanted to know more about him. Catching glimpses of him in PROMISE ME SUNSHINE and NO MATTER WHAT felt like running into an old friend and seeing how much they've grown despite life's challenges.
In I'VE GOT YOU, Ethan is still carrying the physical and emotional aftermath of his accident while doing everything he can to be a good father, co-parent, and business owner. His instinct is always to care for the people around him, often before himself. That's what makes Ethan such a compelling romantic lead: he isn't grand or flashy—he's simply, consistently kind. Once you're in his orbit, he'll quietly take care of you whether you ask him to or not. Acts of service are absolutely his love language, one filled ice cube tray at a time.
Soli quickly became one of my favorite heroines Cara has written. Her inner monologue is hilarious—I laughed out loud more than once—and lines like, "It's raining men. But in an annoying way," perfectly capture her wit. Self-assured, ambitious, and fiercely independent, Soli is also deeply empathetic and nurturing. She sees the world in such a colorful, beautiful way and tries to make it just as beautiful as she sees it. Her past is complicated, yet she remained positive and she lived. She still struggles with her loss, but she doesn’t let it stop her from living the life she wants.
What I loved most, though, was her relationship with Cody. Cody is struggling with his identity, feeling trapped by life in a small town and weighed down by his parents' expectations. Soli becomes the safe place where he can begin to figure out who he is, and I loved how gently and patiently she approached him. Cody isn't an easy teenager to reach, and watching their trust develop felt incredibly authentic. Soli may believe she doesn't want anyone depending on her, but through Cody she discovers she's already capable of being exactly what someone else needs.
One of my favorite romance dynamics is the avoidant woman paired with the hopelessly devoted man, and Soli and Ethan embody that beautifully. Ethan's feelings are evident from the beginning, but this is a wonderfully slow burn as Soli gradually comes to terms with her own. Even then, she's hesitant because their visions for the future don't seem to align.
What I appreciated most was that Ethan never tries to convince Soli to become someone she's not. He doesn't pressure her or ask her to abandon the life she wants. Instead, he gives her the space to wrestle with her feelings while remaining steadfast in his own. Their relationship unfolds naturally through friendship, teasing, quiet tenderness, and simmering tension. And when that tension finally breaks, the payoff is absolutely worth the wait. I especially loved that Soli truly sees Ethan—not despite his scars, but the beauty in them—and helps him begin to heal the way he sees himself.
Cara Bastone’s storytelling is a rich, emotional gut punch with moments of hilarity, sincerity, and joy. Every member of this cast adds something meaningful to the story. Renee was a particular favorite, and I'll happily continue wondering about her and Marcel long after finishing the book. It was also such a joy to revisit familiar faces from across the series.
Overall, I absolutely adored I'VE GOT YOU. It's heartfelt, deeply emotional, and full of the compassion and humanity that have become hallmarks of Cara Bastone's writing. It serves as a beautiful—and yes, bittersweet—conclusion to this series, and I couldn't imagine a more fitting farewell.

I can’t even begin to explain what an absolute joy and surprise it was to receive this manuscript and to finally get to read Ethan’s HEA.
This was so excellent and is absolutely Cara Bastone’s best work yet. It’s a new all time favorite book for me and represents exactly why I love the romance genre. For best enjoyment you definitely want to have read the first three books in this universe, but if you jumped in with no background you would still get to know and love the characters just as deeply.
The banter! The biting flirtations! I can’t stand it. The unique back stories of each main character and the way their stories unfold with one another and to the reader are done so well. And OMG praise Cara Bastone and her relentlessly competent and emotionally evolved MMCs. If we’re talking favorites, somehow Ethan (an acts of service king) has managed to surpass even the ultimate and most devoted golden retriever Shep (Shep-dad 😭). Even where he fails to fully understand himself and others around him, he is so instantly open to feedback and perspective shifting when something is pointed out to him. His care and love and understanding is so beautiful and honestly so healing to read and witness through this story.
The portrayal of the distinct personalities of each character jumps off of the page. The six year old, the eighteen year old, even the side characters come to life so viscerally. Bones is the best, Miriam is the best, Cody is so amazing and such a perfect foil to Soli. He allows her to witness and relive and take care of him, and through that heal her own inner child in such a beautiful way.
I stayed up way too late crying at the beautiful dialogue and swooning at the unbelievable chemistry. I loved the emphasis on colors and visualizations and how it ties everything together and offers so much in the details. I can’t wait to reread and seek out every mention of colors and specific visuals.
This might be advertised as the end of the literary universe but I’m pitching a Renee and Marcel short story or a Cody coming of age novel someday! This book did wrap up everyone’s stories so beautifully, but I will forever be desperate for even more.
I am so thrilled with this cover and can’t wait to hold this book in my hands next year. Get ready for your next favorite read 🩵

Every Cara Bastone book I've read has literally left me in AWE, I cannot believe she writes this shit out of her OWN BRAIN...
Soli is estranged from her family and has been for years because of a Big Thing. She is living and loving and flourishing in her best life in NYC... She's recently gone through a breakup and then one day her 18 year old nephew shows up on her doorstep. She hasn't seen him since he was 5 :( as an aunt myself this is a truly crushing thought, and as a childless aunt, this whole book honestly just hits on the love of an aunt and/or an adult on the fringes of a child's life! Right after he settles in to stay a while, they have a water leak or something, then they end up MOVING IN with their landlord LOL
The landlord is actually Ethan, from book 1 and then book 3 of this "series" (interconnected books). He has his young daughter every other week, and he is recovered physically but maybe not mentally from an accident. He has heavy scarring on half his face and a lot of his internal struggle is just coming to terms with the changes that have happened in his life because of the changes in his appearance.
Soli's main thing is just dealing with the family emotions that her nephew, Cody, being around is bringing up. He's kind of escaping off to the big city to find himself and it's quite, idk, maybe not triggering for her, but definitely stirring up a lot of feelings she'd thought she'd moved past.
And then Soli AND Ethan's main thing is that Soli has never wanted children or to be tied down and Ethan is a family man. It's a very, very adult and reasonable thing for a couple to not find traction on. Responsibly, Soli tries not to even dive in with him, but sometimes we can't help what happens to us romantically lol.
Idk, from the outside this seems like a kinda quiet and cozy book, and it definitely is in a way, but the writing is just SO GOOD that imo it's not just a book, it's LITERATURE!!!!! And I feel the same way about her other books!!! I also feel very seen by the fact that she LOVES to use an exclamation point, it is not very common in literature and we should change that.

I’m finding it so hard to rate this and I don’t know why. I think it’s because, while this book was objectively good, at the end of the day, it just wasn’t for me.
There were moments where the millennial cringe took me out and sorry, but there was a scene where our FMC floats the idea to herself about painting her nephew’s room the colors of the nonbinary flag.
That’s not inherently a cringe thing itself, but that character just came out. Like hours earlier. And still didn’t know what they identified as.
It was just a little overt for my taste.
Also, this is entirely subjective, but I really wanted the mmc to find someone else. Not necessarily someone better, just someone different.
This is one of those times where, after the book, I don’t see them working out. He’s a clear family man who wants people around and to take care of. He very clearly wants consistent companionship.
She’s like the complete opposite in every way.
I feel like we forced these two together in order to show that sometimes opposites can attract. And yeah, that’s true, but it felt so misplaced in this case.
At one point, he was talking to his co-parents about how she’d never be with him because “she doesn’t want to get married and have kids” and apparently, she misunderstood that because he meant that’s why she’ll never be interested in him and y’all
I still don’t understand what he meant by that? I’ve finished the book and I’m still confused. Look, no, I didn’t write the characters, but I still believe that man wants more kids and a wife.

This entire series has been banger after banger, and I am thrilled to say that Cara Bastone has done it again. Each of these novels, in a series titled 'Hearts of New York', contain love stories and is also a love letter to NYC.
The emotional depth and the carefully crafted conversations the main characters, and even the supporting characters, have around their trauma are phenomenally done.
Soli is a free spirit, and she would really like to stay that way. Ethan has structure and responsibilities that intimidate her. The way Soli and Ethan show up for each other and really weave together so wondrously. When Cody shows up, Soli's brother's child (from family she hasn't spoken to in years), she finds herself in a place where she has to be aware and take care of another person's needs. She senses that Cody is in need of a safe place to find who Cody is -- and she provides. This relationship made me sob. Soli gives Cody everything a kid who feels "other" or "different" needs - room to figure it out and no judgement when doing so.
Ethan is a single dad with a very healthy co-parenting situation (Ready Or Not, the first in the series, is where Ethan is introduced). He was also in an accident that caused facial scarring, and is still learning how to navigate his feelings about it.
The chemistry was off the charts.
Cara Bastone, thank you. Your flawed and complex characters feel so tangible, I want to meet them and hug them. I feel so seen through their struggles and your writing never ceases to amaze me. Your acknowledgements at the end also always bring me to tears.
I adored absolutely everything about this book and I believe it will stick with me.

Listen, I know I’ve done this all wrong, and some may call it sacrilegious, but I’ve Got You is the first Cara Bastone book I’ve read…yes, before the others in this series. *GASP* But I’m so happy I started here! Soli is my kind of FMC! She’s direct and independent and not afraid of what she wants. She’s self-aware and loyal and underneath her tough exterior, she’s a squishy human with a deep well of love to give. I so appreciate the way her story was written and how she didn’t have to sacrifice parts of herself to obtain a slice of happiness. She remained unabashedly herself and got the whole pie instead, because, listen closely…WE CAN HAVE IT ALL!
This is undoubtedly Soli’s story, but everything in me loved the greater cast of characters. Ethan as the devoted loverboy, Cody as the lost but hopeful nephew, and Mimi as the vibrant firebolt of joy. Plus all the others that make up their village. An award-worthy village, indeed.

4.5 stars. I’ve been waiting for this one. Ethan is a character who’s carried over through this whole series, and he finally gets his own story. Although it’s told from Soli’s POV, as she also deals with unresolved grief and trauma on her way to an ending that’s happy on her terms. Cara Bastone really likes to put her characters and her readers through the emotional ringer. I appreciated the honesty of a woman whose highest ambition was not marriage and motherhood, and who’s willing to defy convention to get what she wants. This is a richly populated version of New York, with artists and friends and families both actual and found. There’s a really tender storyline with Soli’s teenage nephew, who turns up unexpectedly and seems to be looking for something that she’s uniquely qualified to help him with. The romance between Soli and Ethan is almost beside the point, but the longing and love at the heart of this book makes it sweeter and more satisfying.

This book is my least favorite from this series, but it's still without a doubt a 5 ⭐️ read. The only reason this isn't my favorite is not because I didn't love it, but because I just resonate a lot more with what the characters in Promise me Sunshine and No Matter What have gone through.
I honestly feel like Cara Bastone can't write anything other than incredible incredible books and I'm so grateful to be able to read them.
I won't say more than I adore all this characters and the romance in this book is absolutely incredible. It's the slowest of slowburns as they kiss only at 80%, but the wair is so so worth it.
I was crying through the last 50 pages, but what made me sob was the author's note. Thank you Cara Bastone for telling these stories and creating these characters and making me fall in love with each and every one of them!
I'm so so sad to leave these characters behind, but I'm extremely excited to see what Bastone writes next!

As someone who doesn't want marriage or children, this book made me feel incredibly seen. That representation meant so much to me, and I wasn't expecting it to resonate as deeply as it did.
And Ethan... oh my God, Ethan. I already really liked him in Ready or Not, but this book completely won me over. Cara Bastone absolutely outdid herself. I'm trying my hardest not to spoil anything, but every single aspect of this book worked for me. The writing was phenomenal, the message was beautifully delivered, and the characters were unforgettable.
This book made me feel so much. It made me feel understood, validated, and deeply emotional. I loved every second of it. Truly the perfect ending to an incredible series.

There's not been a Cara Bastone book that I haven't loved, but this is by far my favorite. 22 years ago, I arrived in Brooklyn, NY looking for freedom and I found it and lifelong friends in spades. (This was also set in my old neighborhood with the most beautiful cover that I need a print of!)
This was a realistic love story. I like a happy ending, but not a tidy one, because that's not how life or love works--there are sacrifices and a future that may not look the way that you had thought it would. I truly loved the characters in this book--Soli was all of us in the most beautiful way and Ethan, Cody, and Miriam were a treat.
Again, I can't recommend this one ENOUGH. It's not just a love story between people, but a love story about living in and loving Brooklyn.

After reading Promise Me Sunshine, Cara Bastone became one of my favorite romance authors because her writing isn't just swoony, it has a lot of emotional depth. She has done it again with I've Got You!

Because of this, I feel like I have a deep connection with the main characters. I adored Soli and Ethan and how both of their stories wove together so beautifully even as they both dealt with heartbreaking traumas. This story touched my heart in so many ways and will stay with me for a long time.

not to be dramatic or anything but you guys are simply not ready for how good this is. i literally savored it for over a month because i wasn't ready to let go. cara is once again masterfully sharing the kind of human and grounded and emotional love stories modern contemporary romance so desperately needs. the perfect example that in writing stories with specificity, you can really touch on what makes us all human.

OH MY GOSH! I LOVE THIS BOOK. Cara Bastone is quickly becoming a must-read author for me! Everything is perfectly timed in this book. There was never a part where I was bored or wished the story would go any faster. Watching their relationship grow and flourish throughout the book was so sweet. The tension between them was perfect the entire time! I truly can’t recommend this book enough!!

I’ve Got You by Cara Bastone completely pulled me in with its sweet and slow burn romance! I loved how the story took its time building the characters and relationships, and how the romance felt so natural. The writing was easy to read and made me smile and laugh, and even got me a little emotional along the way. I liked that the story showed how people can change and grow when they open themselves up to new experiences. This was a comforting and hopeful romance that left me feeling happy and would gladly recommend it to anyone who enjoys character driven love stories with lots of heart!

Sometimes you read a book you wish you could etch into your soul and that was this book for me. That’s honestly what all of Cara Bastone’s books for me, but this one especially rang true. What a beautiful depiction of bodily autonomy, of found family and beautiful moments. I can’t spoil anything but I wish this was coming out sooner — I can’t wait to buy this for my personal collection and read it when I’m feeling sad.
