For Colin Falsted, moving into his uncle's dilapidated old house was supposed to mark a new beginning. Sure, the decision was rash, and, yes, the home's remote location was less than ideal, what with it being situated in the vast flatlands of Eastern Colorado's Great Plains, but the drastic switch was just what the doctor ordered to wipe the slate clean and put his troubled past behind him.

At least that was the plan.

No sooner does Colin arrive than strange noises and upsetting images begin to plague his transition. Then there's the mystery surrounding his Uncle Bernard, whom Colin has not seen since he was a boy. Driven to learn the reason behind his uncle's inexplicable disappearance from his childhood, Colin digs into the house's many secrets. In so doing, he uncovers horrors he couldn't have begun to imagine, the disturbing revelations proving the old adage that beneath the surface, nothing and no one is as they seem.

Born near Grand Forks AFB in North Dakota, James has spent much of his life moving from place to place. Currently, he resides in mystical Japan with his wife and two boys.

His latest release is a tale of in-flight terror entitled "Arcadia 518." One of our greatest fears is that something bad will happen during a flight, and "Arcadia 518" capitalizes on that fear tenfold. Believe me, bad things happen.

Descend into my latest, with The Staircase .

Owen is on the heels of a devastating breakup, but his misery is diverted when his adventurer friend, Steve, shows up at his door with intriguing news–he’s found something inexplicable in the heart of the forest: A staircase. Buried deep in the ground, and miles from anywhere, it is absent any barriers, fences, doors, gates, or signs warning people to keep out. Nothing, it seems, can explain its purpose. But it has one, and Owen will soon learn the terrifying truth of it.

I kept skipping past this book in my 'to read' pile, probably because the cover wasn't eye-catching enough, but I opened it yesterday and started reading.

This is slow moving and yet intense. The setting gradually builds up and there are little hints and moments that are truly scary.

I'm not going into the plot itself, but the writing is superb, the characters come alive on the page and the whole thing builds to a tremendous climax in which everything falls into place.

Excellent writing, but the cover is a little 'vague' somehow.

I've received this book in Goodreads Giveaway

Great ghost-horror story, different than the others I've had opportunity to read or see on TV, at least so far.
The climate reminds me of old horror movies. Tension builds through story like in Hitchcock's films.

We have Colin, a guy with a mysterious past who decided to change his life by 180 degrees, from a big city moved to a small town, to the old house in remote area, with time strange things began happening: noises, unexpected wind, visitors .... it sounds like a typical ghost story but it's not.
When I finally got to know what Colin's uncle had buried under the house ... WOW I was expecting a lot but not that.

Mystery, crime, ghosts, revenge, truth, justice .... all of this brilliantly combined, balanced and keeps you in suspense to the very end.
