What would you do if you woke up one day with no memories of a near death accident? And what if no one had answers?

Meet Cameron Price, an unassuming guy living in New Orleans with his soon to be wife. After a mysterious accident, which he doesn't even have scars to show for, Cameron starts to notice strange things. His fiance's secretive friend appears, as if watching him. Before long Cameron is blacking out and waking up in strange places, hearing voices, seeing things in his reflection—and his shadow. When he comes home with a murder weapon in tow, he has to get to the bottom of it. Has he lost his mind, or is there a conspiracy—or both? When the whole truth comes out, everything goes up in flames—higher flames than anyone intended.

This debut novel starts off with action and never really lets up. It’s a rich and complicated story full of surprising twists, set in New Orleans, with its historical milieu of spiritualism and culture, but with all the vibrancy of youth in modern times. The title did not prepare me for the main premise of the story, and without giving anything away, the title of “Doppelganger” is dead on!

Cameron Price wakes up in the hospital with a headache and is told he was hit by a bus. No one can explain his lack of other injuries, but it is soon apparent something is very wrong. As he grapples with profound issues related to the accident, seeking assistance from practitioners of psychology, hypnotism and dark magic, disturbing things happen and his relationship with his betrothed is impacted. As a reader, I was very sympathetic to Cameron, and enjoyed the way other characters interacted with him, particularly his fiancée, Jesse. As the plot rolled out, all the wild threads came together in perfect harmony, making the ending very satisfying while leaving the possibility of a sequel.

Some of the writing, particularly in the first few chapters, is a bit amateurish, with hackneyed sayings and redundancies, and the sex scenes, though well written, leave nothing left to the imagination, but this is a debut novel, after all. This young writer is very talented, and I look forward to her next work.
