Review from advanced copy from ARC Team.
Wow!!! What an incredible book! Let’s talk about the cover first… The cover screams small town dark mystery. I paced myself with this book and I’m so glad I did. I was hungry for more after each read. The determination from Kateri and finding the answers of what her dad left behind. Aaron, the grumpy detective who gets put on leave from a previous case he worked goes to spend a few months with his sister and brother in law. Little did he know he would love the small town, help solve a case and find love! Lucas, this hard shell to crack has been given a brand new beginning and answers he’s been looking for. To say I didn’t want this book to end is an understatement, I want more with these characters! This is a must read! You won’t regret it!

As a fan of Lindsay Gibson’s original books from a variety of genres, I looked forward to reading The Year You Came Back, the debut for The Secrets of Herring Point trio. I especially enjoy Lindsay’s New England-based tales that take her readers to serene, nautical settings, this time in scenic Maine. If you like history, mystery and a love story in the mix, then Lindsay’s trademark writing will not disappoint, this time starring therapist Kateri. The themes of guilt, grief, healing, hope, comfort and courage are prevalent, along with warm, cozy vibes in the midst of cool, crisp air of autumn. I had the pleasure of reading the ARC (advance reader copy) and offer my honest review.

Powerful and heartwarming. This story is filled with family secrets, questions that need to be answered, a bit of danger, romance, and hope for the future. From the moment I began reading the story, the sounds and scents of the setting captured me and took me to a different place. I'm looking forward to reading the next books in the series. Great read for book clubs. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.

I really enjoyed this first in the new Secrets of Herring Point series, The Year You Came Back. The plot perfectly mixes both main characters' arcs along with moving the mystery plot forward. I particularly enjoyed the use of the location history and landscape/environment supporting the plot. Looking forward to Secrets of Herring Point #2!

This is the first book of a trilogy. I’ll lead by saying I’m ready for the 2nd and 3rd in the series. This story has it all, which is uniquely woven together by the author. It’s one of the best I’ve read and deserves 10-stars. It comes out on 11-18-2026 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon now.
