Only those that gave made it through Marine Corps Boot Camp, or might care to understand those that do or Drill Instructors that make Marines, will have a chance of "getting this". It was awesome to me. Even as one that when through it 1970. It's about those Marines that make Marines. Don't judge. Semper Fi...
I was given this book to read and didn't expect to enjoy it. Wow. I was wrong.
My son went through bootcamp and it always seemed unnecessarily brutal. Never did I think that I could relate to someone who was and enjoyed being a drill instructor.
Couldn't put the book down. It was that incredible. It was read cover-cover in one sitting. I paused several times and had to just sit and think.
This book has heart. Grit. It's honest.
Above all else it gave me a new outlook on the military and Marines as a whole. My grandfathers, uncle, ex husband and son have all served. You would think that I would understand the soul of a soldier. I didn't until I read this book.
I don't have to agree with the author's opinions or views, but after reading this book - you could never deny that this man has given his all for his country. As an Oklahoma State Rep, he is still serving her today.
Inspirational - and should be given to anyone who (or the parents of anyone) wanting to join the military.
