This book is very fast-paced, and intriguing. I felt that the character of Pete Golding was a misunderstood character, but that, as everyone else felt...he was on the verge of becoming the very monsters that he fought so hard to protect women from.

Parte in un modo un po' traumatico e disturbante, ma poi il thriller si incammina sul giusto binario e si legge molto velocemente grazie a una trama solida e a ritmi coerenti.
Lascia un po' a desiderare la costruzione dei protagonisti, gravati di fardelli emotivi pesanti appena accennati e solo utili a dar loro un'aria sospetta o cupa, e dei personaggi secondari, che compiono spesso azioni discutibili senza che vengano ponderate le naturali conseguenze.

Ho iniziato questo libro tre volte. E per ben due volte, letta l'introduzione e non avendoci capito nulla, l'avevo richiuso e posato sullo scaffale. Poi, finalmente, ho decido di dargli una possibilità, ed è stata una scelta saggia.
A me i thriller piacciono, di ogni genere. Ne ho letto di migliori, ma devo ammettere che mi ha soddisfatta. E' scritto a volte in modo pretenzioso, ma si legge facilmente e non annoia nemmeno.
Mi è piaciuto il modo in cui l'autore (o meglio gli autori?) gioca con gli indizi: carte scoperte sul tavolo, ti indica la strada come se fosse l'unica illuminata, hai l'idea precisa in testa e acceleri la lettura per arrivare a vedere se avevi ragione ma -SBEM- ti ritrovi da tutt'altra parte. E' decisamente un punto a suo favore, risulta mai banale e totalmente avvincente.
In questo romanzo c'è tutto: la paura, la molestia, il terrore. Ci si sente perseguitati anche dopo aver chiuso il libro, i personaggi sono lì e vivono con te. E le domande, fino alla fine, sono lì a ronzarti nella testa.
Non sono soddisfattissima del finale, avrei preferito un chiarimento e non questa sorta di "finale aperto" ma tutto sommato tre stelle le merita e sì, lo consiglierei agli amanti del genere ma anche a chi ha voglia di leggere un thriller.

Figure of Eight was recommended by a friend, but I'm not sure why. Maybe because I like skating? It's a thriller that loses steam about 2/3 of the way through, when the really scary villain is killed.

I started off reading Lynch's 'medical' thrillers so when I tried reading this book, it totally flopped for me. I did not finish it.
